Can you believe it’s already been two whole years since Nintendo launched the Wii in North America? What heady times! The Yanks were still reeling from the PlayStation 3 launch two days prior, still making off-colour Wii puns, confident that they’d be able to stroll into a Best Buy, Target or GameCube Hut and walk away with one of the many Wiis that would be available at retailers nationwide. And they’d pay for it with the winnings from their recently auctioned-off PS3.
Enough with the conjecture already. When Capcom announced their NXE “Wii Channel” for SFIIHD earlier today, they also let slip the game’s release date. It’s November 26. As you can see above. Just in case you missed it earlier. That’s for the 360 at any rate; since the 26th is a Wednesday, PS3 users can most likely expect it on November 27.
Earlier in the week, bemanistyle said they’d heard about an Activision/Konami-branded Guitar Hero arcade game. Not the first time we’d seen one , but it was probably the first official one we’d see. We figured we’d see/hear more at the International Association of Amusement Parks and Attractions get-together in Orlando during the week, and we are not to be disappointed. Bemanistyle today have some new info: the game will be “a modified version of Guitar Hero III” running on PC hardware, and the guitars will look like the new World Tour peripherals, but be built more in line with Konami’s Guitar Freaks controller standards. So, yeah, indestructible guitars. In addition, online play will be supported, along with the possibility of online song updates.
“Oh, come on Capcom – you can do better than this, surely?”
Phew. Remember all that stuff about GTA IV and Games for Windows Live? And how the press release kept dropping words like “exclusive” and “Games for Windows – LIVE” uncomfortably close to each other? It’s OK. The game isn’t exclusive, either to Microsoft’s GFW brand or Games for Windows – LIVE service. It’s just appearing there first. A listing for Grand Theft Auto IV has since appeared on Steam, with a release date of December 3. A short delay, yes, but one that’s probably all too worth it for those in the pro-Steam, anti-GFW-LIVE camp.

Not that this will concern any/many of you, but hey, you might have some Christmas shopping to do for that special bored housewife in your life. According to Reggie Fils-Aime, Nintendo are going to struggle to put copies of Wii Fit on the shelf in time for Christmas.
Electronic Arts’ mysterious Blueprint division is no more, according to a report from Variety. Formerly lead by EA LA vet Neil Young, the shrouded-in-secrecy project was reportedly established to create lower cost content with smaller teams based on original intellectual property. One of those unnamed projects was being developed by former Metroid Prime developers at start up Armature, but the majority of what Blueprint worked on was never publicly disclosed. It was said to be focusing some of its efforts on casual games targeted at social networking platforms.

The selection of movies that one can stream from Netflix to the Xbox 360 just got a bit smaller, as a batch of content distributed by Columbia Pictures — owned by Sony Pictures Entertainment (dun dun dunnnnn!) — is now listed as “currently unavailable for playback on the Xbox.” That affects some big releases from the studio, including titles like Superbad, The Karate Kid and The Lives of Others but also thankfully saves us from becoming incredibly depressed by watching Spider-Man 3 while drunk.
