God Of War Creator Says God Of War III Is ‘HOLY HOLY HOLY FUCKING HELL!!!!’

11:00PM Luke Plunkett | David Jaffe doesn’t really have squat to do with the God of War series these days. Still. Didn’t stop him from getting to take a look at the in-development God of War III last week. His thoughts? Predictably expletive-laden, but the gist is, dude reckons it looks better than the very-good-looking Gears of War 2: More »

A Sephiroth Statue For Your Christmas (2009) Wishlist

10:30PM Luke Plunkett | Due for release sometime towards the middle of next year, this 14″ statue of Final Fantasy VII baddie Sephiroth should find itself a home on many an overpaid Final Fantasy fanboy’s adult collectible display shelf. Could have done with a dead Aeris hanging limply from the end of his sword, but the $US150 price tag is steep enough as it is. Screens on the link. More »

So, How Much Space Do Your 360 Games Installs Take Up?

10:00PM Luke Plunkett | The New Xbox Experience lets you install 360 games onto your HDD. Great news for anyone – like myself – who gets DISC READ ERRORS as often as the sun both rises and sets. But chances are, unless you splurged and bought yourself an Elite, or are new to the 360 world and own a 60GB unit, you have a 20GB HDD. And for you, space is at a premium. So you need to know how much room the installs actually take up, so you can get prioritising. More »

New PS3 Holiday Bundle Includes Ratchet, Bond

9:00PM Luke Plunkett | Courtesy of a friendly neighbourhood Best Buy employee, here’s a look at a new PlayStation 3 holiday hardware bundle, just in time for Black Friday. It’s an 80GB console that comes packed with a copy of Ratchet & Clank Future: Tools of Destruction, as well as Casino Royale on Blu-Ray. It’ll go on sale later this week (not sure whether it’s for everyone or just a Best Buy exclusive), on November 28, and will cost $400, so yes, the game/Blu-Ray are free. More »

Sony’s Christmas PSP Ads Are ‘Urban’ In Nature

8:00PM Luke Plunkett | Here’s Sony’s North American holiday season ads for the PlayStation Portable. I thought the PS3 offerings last week were a little hit-and-miss. These PSP ones? Despite trying far too hard (something has gone wrong at marketing when the introductory post has to use the word “urban” so many times), these ads actually succeed where the PS3 ones failed: they show what the PSP can do. Like, it plays games. When you’re outside/on a train. More »

Gran Turismo PSP Still ‘Moving Forward’? Really?

7:00PM Luke Plunkett | It’s the stuff of vapourware legend. Back when Sony was first unveiling the PSP, Sony shows off Gran Turismo PSP, tells us all that’s what we’ve got to look forward to. Turns out it was all lies. Four years on and there’s still no sign of a Gran Turismo PSP. No screenshots, no trailer, no demo, no release date, no exclusive, paid-for preview with a major magazine, nothing. It is, for all intents and purposes, a ghost project. Regardless, Polyphony Digital would like us all to believe otherwise, and are still trying to convince us the game’s actually coming. Speaking with IGN, Polyphony boss Kazunori Yamauchi has said, with regards to GT PSP, “it is moving forward. It hasn’t been knocked off the plans: it’s there”. Four years on and all we’ve got is “it’s there”? Pardon me if my finely-honed sense of scepticism is tingling. Gran Turismo Interview [IGN, via VG247] More »

Famed Hacker Cut His Teeth On…Lucasarts’ X-Wing

6:00PM Luke Plunkett | Virgil Griffith is a hacker. You might not know him by name, but you may well know him by deed, he’s the guy behind WikiScanner, the tool that lets you find out who’s been tinkering with Wikipedia entries. His background in exploiting security systems could see him labelled a hacker. He prefers the term “disruptive technologist”. Either way, the guy had one hell of an education, as he got his start playing around with code with a game that’s very dear to my heart: I remember in particular there was a ‘Star Wars’ game, X-Wing…Only one of my computer-controlled wingmen was any good. My very first hack at age 9 was noticing there was a file for each pilot, and I simply copied the pilot file for the good wingman 20 times, giving me a plentiful supply of the best wingmen from then on. Microsoft Picks Up ‘The Guild’ Exclusively

5:30PM Luke Plunkett | Microsoft have tonight announced that they’ve signed an exclusivity deal with the makers of “The Guild”, the internet-based “comedy” show about a bunch of WoW guildmates. The show’s second season will appear on the 360’s new Independent Video channel first, and only after four weeks will the show then become available on The Guild’s own site (though Microsoft will still take a cut of the revenue). Interestingly, the Reuters report announcing the deal says the show will be released free of charge, and will be available simultaneously for Xbox Live users across the world (unlike the regular video marketplace, which is either heavily restricted or non-existent outside North America). Kinda strange they went for The Guild, though. The Mega64 kids might have been a more appropriate buy. Triple “Guild” play for Microsoft [Reuters] More »

Totaka’s Song Spotted In Animal Crossing: Let’s Go To The City

5:00PM Luke Plunkett | Quick history lesson! Nintendo sound director and musician Kazumi Totaka is the man behind the music behind a lot of your favourite Nintendo games. A cute little touch Totaka blesses each of his games with is “Totaka’s Song”, a 19-note melody that you’ll find in every game he’s done the music for. Here’s a recap.

In-Game Browser Offers 25 Percent More Avoidance of Real World

8:00AM Owen Good | Got an email this week from the CEO of Genesis Interactive, which runs GotGame, a social portal for gamers. Asserting that “PC gamers spend a quarter of their time in game waiting for either teammates to log in or games to load,” they’ve developed a browser — called Rogue — that allows you to look at porn surf the web, without leaving your game and potentially missing out on the action.
