Installs, it seems, are becoming commonplace — expected, even. Many games require them, and some even offer optional installs. So when Seb Downie, QA Manager at developer Guerrilla Games, fielded questions about the dev’s upcoming PS3 exclusive, the install one of course came up. According to Downie:
Lots of canned soundbytes to be found in Left 4 Dead. We like ‘em! It can help lighten the mood, and also reveal a bit about each of the survivor’s personalities. Take this clip, for example. This clip reveals a bit about Bill. And how, faced with the prospect of the end of the human race, Bill’s… baser instincts kick in. Clip’s after the jump, because Bill’s baser instincts (and accompanying social skills) probably aren’t suitable for your place of work.
Christmas approaches, Britain. That explains the resurgence of Nintendo-related content after a few week’s break. Also explains the continued presence of a new Call of Duty game atop the charts, because Britain has always gone bananas for Call of Duty. Know what else Britain has usually gone bananas for? Need for Speed. So it’s quite surprising to see that the latest entry in a series that has traditionally topped the holiday sales charts could only debut at #12 & #13. You done with NFS, Britain?
Finally, the Xbox 360 port of Konami arcade shooter Otomedius Gorgeous! has been released in Japan. The game was delayed about a month “to eradicate bugs and improve the quality even more.” The Xbox 360 version has several modes: Original (arcade version), Gorgeous (wide screen), Online Multiplayer Mode. There is also a Gallery with 115 images you can stare at — and it doesn’t seem like these images need to be unlocked or anything. What kind of images? Images of characters in skimpy outfits that can be zoomed in on. See the link.

Super Street Fighter II HD Delayed In The UK – Super Street Fighter 2 Turbo HD Remix will be out this week on Xbox Live Arcade. And in the US, it’ll also be out on the PlayStation Network. But the UK? No dice. A Capcom rep has told Edge that, when it comes to the PS3, the game “will not be released in the UK this week and has no official release date”. No official release date? Ruh roh.
Speaking with MTV, Sony’s John Koller has revealed that PSP piracy – long the source of Sony’s wrath when it comes to the handheld – is on the decline.
The latest issue of Japanese game magazine Famitsu has more information about upcoming PS3 exclusive White Knight Chronicles. Here goes: There is a large “Wizard” organisation that has its own giant airship. (Lucky!) The group is helmed by a young fella named Glasel. There are three new giant monsters monikered “Gigas” who were originally summoned by three Wizard members — only to be later possessed by the monsters. Combat-wise, enemies such as these monsters have their own elemental strength. This can be countered by magic and weapons with varying elemental damage. Note: Magic has four types of elemental damage, while weapons have three types of elemental damage.

The New Xbox Experience fixed one outdated aspect of the 360 – its user interface – but there’s still one thing about it that just screams 2005: the disc tray. A tray? Jesus, it’s like rubbing two sticks together to start a fire. This guy has a more elegant solution: rip the disc-sucking-and-spitting mechanism out of an old iMac and put it to better use in a 360. Works like a treat.
PSPs are great when they’re working. All that homebrew and…UMD-watching and stuff. But when they’re not working? That’s when they’re bricked. It’s an awful thing. So awful you should trick your friends into thinking their PSPs are bricked with this fake app. Called TrickBrick, it’ll appear with a kinda-legitimate-looking filename, and when they run it…they’ll think it’s brick city. Haw haw haw.
