Reminder: Blizzard Customer Support Still Not A Teen Suicide Hotline

Teenage suicide? Don’t do it. And don’t threaten that you’re going to kill yourself to Blizzard Entertainment customer support representatives via online chat, because that will land your arse in jail. (Pro tip!)
Unfortunately, one 17-year old doofus from Middletown, Ohio hadn’t learned that lesson in time, making a phony threat while chatting in-game with a Blizzard rep, one who wisely phoned in the faux call for help to police. The unnamed teen was promptly arrested on misdemeanor charges after claiming “he was suicidal and that the game is the only thing he has to live for.”
If there’s any confusion about whether you should do that, he’s a reminder: Don’t! I know the holidays can be tough, but power through. And don’t threaten to not power through to anyone with your billing information. We clear?

Fuck me gently with a chainsaw, that kid is an idiot.
My god, it feels great to actually use that line in context.

@FanDam:
I agree with what was said before that it is akin to yelling a house is on fire. They must treat the threat as real even if they believe it is a hoax.
Consider what would happen if this were a smaller town and had limited resources to send. One police car/ambulance sent here is one less they can send to a real emergency and could lead to a real tragedy occurring.

@QuackerJacks: It was perceived as real though. It is also being treated as real. So I am assuming that there is some sort of perception that this is possible. Which is pretty sad.

He told police it was a hoax.
I think suicide prevention centers only alert authorities if they determine there is an imminent danger.

Thats pretty sad that a kid would go there just to try and get something he wanted in a game.
