As we posted earlier, Sony told us it was planning a big announcement for Tuesday. Today is Tuesday, and Sony has made its announcement. (Hint, this Target ad already announced it.)
And as we also told you earlier, we didn’t think this big announcement was a PS3 price cut. From our original post: “We’re leaning towards a price cut, but we’ve got a sneaking suspicion that it’s the PlayStation 2 dropping to $99, and not a cut for the PlayStation 3.” We were dead on right.
On the PlayStation Blog, Sony’s John Koller announces, “Today I’m excited to talk about another milestone in PlayStation 2′s lifespan. For the first time ever, PlayStation 2 will be offered at a price point under $100 (that’s $99.99 MSRP, to be exact), starting April 1!”
With nearly 1,900 PS2 tiles and now this under-a-hundred-bucks price point, this is as good a time as any to pick up a PS2. Read the full details in the link below.
Kotaku AU Note: We’re asking Sony Australia if this means a price drop is coming here too, but we fully expect them to say no.
