Wii Virtual Console Goes To The Arcade

3:40AM March 26, 2009 | Mike Fahey

Having run out of game consoles, Nintendo today launched Virtual Console Arcade, with a variety of classic arcade titles already available for purchase from the Wii Shop Channel.

As we speak, Gaplus, Star Force, The Tower of Druaga, Mappy and more are all available to download and play on your Wii, priced at 500 Wii points a piece with the exception of Gaplus, where the plus apparently translates to 100 more Wii points. Space Harrier and Solvalou named as two additional titles coming soon.

As McWhertor pointed out during the liveblog of Nintendo’s keynote, that means Sega, Namco and Taito have all signed on to provide their arcade hits to Wii owners. What games would you like to see show up on the Virtual Console Arcade?

I would love to see The NewZealand Story, and Crime Fighters (old skool beat-em-up).. I gave those games a hella good thrashing in arcades when I was younger. They owe me a lot of “free” playtime ;)

How about more ACTUAL Virtual Console games that dont suck or arent sequels to the games already on there (How many Bomberman games do we need?)? Where is Sunset Riders for SNES – hurry up with that one Konami? Lethal Enforcers should be a no-brainer too! And after all the excitement of the NEO GEO and Master System games, where have they all gone?? I’ve STILL got 800 Wii Points waiting to be spend that have been in the Wii for a year and a half…

From Namco I would like to see
    - Time Crisis Series
    - Point Blank Series
    - Vampire Night
    - Mario Kart Arcade GP 1 and 2

And from Sega I would like to see

    - Daytona USA 1 and 2

    - House of the Dead

    - Virtua Cop 1 and 2

    - Virtua Fighter 1,2 and 3

    - Star Wars Trilogy Arcade

    - Marvel Vs. Capcom 1 and 2

That’s all I can think of off the top of my head.
