Its the ability to 'rewrite' which most intrigues me about historical games such as Total War. I've been playing Empire since day one and have a Spanish Empire that stretches from Italy to France and encompasses all the New World. Having that power to change what happened before is thrilling and much more rewarding than playing through a set piece. How much fun would replaying the Battle of Waterloo be if Napoleon was hardcoded to lose?

I liken it to the movie Titanic. We all know the ship sinks. What a pointless excuse for a movie; it's only worth watching for Kate Winslet's boob.
