You will believe a man can explode! Independent developer Curve Studios seeks to bring the old school platformer up to date with Explodemon! for the PlayStation Network, WiiWare, and PC.
Explodemon! is a 2.5D platformer featuring a man, or mon, if you will, who explodes. Created by Curve’s design director, Jonathan Biddle, the game seeks to recapture the fun of Super Nintendo era Japanese action games, bringing together influences from a wide variety of titles into one single game. Biddle explains.
“Explodemon! is best described as what Treasure would create if they mixed Yoshi’s Island with Half-Life 2. It includes many elements from games as diverse as Street Fighter II, Halo, Super Metroid and Bangai-O. As lifelong gamers, we’re huge fans of these titles and feel we’ve managed to bring together something that captures something from all of them.
Yoshi’s Island meets Half-Life 2? That’s a new one on us. We’ll see if Explodemon! lives up to that comparison when the game is released first on the PlayStation Network in Q4 2009.

I love games like this. If the guys that made Sonic Unleashed had any brains, they’d use this as an example of how Sonic games *should* look. Here’s to hoping they get their acts together…
