Star Trek Online Screens Explore Strange New Worlds
Following the official announcement of Paramount’s Star Trek D-A-C yesterday, Cryptic sent us a trio of exclusive Star Trek Online screens to remind fans that there’s much more than a top-down shooter in the works.
Out of the three images that Cryptic passed along, the top one here is the one that truly spoke to the Star Trek fan in me. That right there, my friends, is a starship that’s boldly going somewhere to seek out some stuff. The planet-side depicts a nice place to pick up alien spores or lose your memory and live life as a caveman, and the third shot reinforces the fact that things will indeed be exploding in space. Very nice, but the first shot makes me desperately hope that there’s some sort of epic travelling music in the game.
No, not “Faith of The Heart”.

Looks like a typical numlock, go get sandwich screenshot.
Never was into Star Trek and the screenshots are far from telling. Age of Conan and SWGalaxies all showed sexy and enticing screenies that ended up lacking in substance.
PsycheE
Once they confirm a pvp event called "Ponn Farr" where I can fight with axes to the death to epic music, I'll be game.

I liked Faith of the Heart :(
Enterprise was my second favorite Star Trek series, with TNG in first of course.
Raziel66
How to build an "unseen" alien world? Place some giant mushrooms!
MAATOHA
As long as I can go back in time to save Killer Whales Ill play the game.
OW-Holmes, the housekeeper.
@kobeashi: I want it to be as epic as that dinosaur vs. Kirk fight from the original series.

@PsycheE: SWGalaxies I didn't mind since the gameplay, when it launched, was great. Age of Conan though makes me cry :( What a big dissapointment that turned out to be. I even bought the collectors edition!
Raziel66
That looks almost like a Miranda Class.
Maybe its a Refit?

@Raziel66: Enterprise had some potential, and finally started to get back on track with what it should have been near the end after the horrible, series killing Xindii (or however you spell that) season, and after wrapping up (quite poorly in my opinion) that whole temporal cold war thing. but by then the damage had already been done.
The series finale made me really nostalgic for the TNG days though.
Cururu
Oh, come on. "Faith of the Heart" is *not* a bad song. It just doesn't really work as a Trek theme.
@Raziel66: After giving Enterprise a second shot, I found myself really, really enjoying it (aside from the stupid temporal cold war thing). The theme didn't fit a trek show at all, though, and to this day it's still grating.

@PowerFeed: Yes, its a miranda. However, its not a refit. The game allows you to customize the exterior of your ship. All ships will look different from one another depending on what you decide to make your hull look like, or the way your nacelles are placed, etc. however, no matter what you do to it, if you see the ship in space youll always be able to say "Hey, thats a Prometheus" or "Hey, there goes an intrepid. Its nacelles look awesome"

the HELL is coming out...god dammit i wanna play NOE :(

Oh, I do want a beta for this. However, I'd settle for some planetside in-game (not cinematically-cut-for-trailer-in-game..., but someone-actually-playing in-game) footage. Really curious as to how that battle system is going to work.

I'm still convinced that shitty song got Enterprise cancelled.

@Fnor:
I didn't really mind the temporal cold war as it kind of fit it in with all of the trans-dimensional stuff from some of the other shows. I don't think it should have been such a major plot though. The Xindi either, definitely ran too long with that.
But the way they showed the away teams, the first contact with different species, and of course the numerous allusions to later plots or technologies was cool and made the show for me.

Thesse screenshots just told my wang to "make it so". And by "make it so", I mean "make a pants tent". Have been following this since it was first announced back in '06 or whenever that was. The wait is killing me...

@Niomo:
As long as you have to keep to an even number of nacceles. None of this "Enterprise with a third naccele" crap fom the TNG finale.

I'm glad they're starting to show off the important stuff like the game's UI. Oh wait.

@Raziel66: I never got to see the whole thing, but I really do, but from what I did see, I liked it.
I'm the type of person that prefers overbearing story lines. TNG was mostly a bunch of independent, disconnected stories. No real storyline or "end-game" if you will.
DS9 went more towards this when it finally hit the war with the Founders; they cut back on stand-alone episodes and made the majority of the episodes flow with each other alot more.

@sandmanfvrreturns: Agreed. Even though I am currently caught up in EVE, it would be nice to see something I'm familiar with put into an MMO.

I was kinda hoping for a feature where like 50 people have to work together to control a space ship, like in the series. I think that could be a cool way of doing instances instead of ding the same old boring stuff. Honestly, I was kinda bummed out over the fact that EVERYONE gets to be a captain of their own ship, no matter how strange that sounds.
Still, this will definitely be my first real MMO ^^

@Minamu: I was hoping for such a thing for a LOOOONG time!!!

This game has so much potential!! I love where it is going creatively. I'm just afraid that starship exploration and away missions are going to be alot to have to develop at the same time. I hope they give this game the proper amount of time in the oven so they can do it right and launch with a decent amount of content.
Prometheus Class Ships would rock.

another flop in the making

@vorpal_raddish: It's for XBOX 360 & PC.
François Goupil-Labelle
when oh when will the platforms be announced???
@Raziel66: I've never enjoyed Star Trek beyond a theoretical stand point (good acting & stories... but too boring), but the original Star Trek is hilariously awesome. Everything that came after it was too subdued and serious.
Paul_Is_Drunk
Those look awesome.
Will you be able to get out of your ship and land and explore on planets? A good space MMO would be amazin, but a good space MMO that also happens to be a Star Trek MMO is like killing two birds with no stones, just pure epicness.
Anthony Joseph Lazzarino
The first two pics look cool. The last picture, on land.. holy crap look at that fire lol.
@Raziel66: Check the historical timeline they're developing for STO, apparently the Klingons have been picking fights with the Gorn (the dinosaus you speak of).
@anduin1: You mean like your last sexual encounter?
