The Pirate Bay Court Decision: Guilty

A verdict has been reach in the nine-day trial against one of the largest BitTorrent websites The Pirate Bay. Ironically, the decision was leaked from the court.

The Stockholm-based piracy site was a peer server which made video games, movies and music available for “sharing” among users. Swedish police raided The Pirate Bay and those connected to the site.

The four defendants, known as The Pirate Bay Four, were accused of “assisting in making copyright content available.” The four defendants were all found guilty, sentenced to a year in prison each and received fines totaling US $3,620,000.

The Swedish court said the four worked together as a team and were aware that copyrighted material was being shared via The Pirate Bay. The site will continue says its founders, and the defendants plan to appeal.

Expect this court decision to set the stage for further legal action against other BitTorrent sites.
