Tomorrow, Eidos Is Square Enix’s
Square Enix inches closer to its take over of Tomb Raider publisher Eidos, and the takeover is expected to go into effect tomorrow morning.
In February, both Square Enix and Eidos came to an agreement for the takeover, and the following month, Eidos shareholders overwhemingly approved of the action.
Eidos issued this statement earlier today: “The Board of Eidos is pleased to announce that the Court sanctioned the Scheme at the Court Hearing held today and that it also confirmed the associated Capital Reduction at that hearing.”
“As previously announced, the Scheme is expected to become effective on 22 April 2009 following the delivery of the Court Order to the Registrar of Companies and the registration by him of such Court Order.”
The London Stock Exchange suspended trading Eidos shares. On April 23, the Stock Exchange will cancel trading Eidos shares. The takeover will bring not only Tomb Raider, but also Deus Ex and Himan into Square Enix’s franchise portfolio.

So I heard something about Eidos was planning on making Lara more "female friendly" before they announced the sale to Square. Thankfully, this doesnt seem like a strong possibility considering Square's past female game characters (RPG's specifically). Hooray for boobs! Woot woot

Now they'll port Final Fantasy 13 and vs13 to the PC. And just like FF8PC it'll have horrible problems with drivers, making half of the triangles go black, the other flicker like mad and cause epilepsy seizures.

@Downskated: You are a retard. And so is anyone else who thinks Eidos was bought to release more JRPGs. Eidos was bought because the Japanese industry has been sliding (for a while now) in Japan and they want to reach western audiences.
Eidos has established roots in the West, offering many IPs which westerners connect with. The problem with Tomb Raider is every new game the team changes. Bad decisions get made and before you know it you have a kraken who idly sits in a pool while Lara runs around and drops a concrete block on its head.
Eidos' problems can be fixed. Square has seen this. Square needs to diversify its portfolio because focusing on Japan centric games isn't doing it anymore. They're not wanting to make Lara Croft RPGs.
As long as it means we'll actually be seeing more Hitman and Deus Ex titles, I'm all for it.

@Thomas Henry Ward: Comments like that make me question the intelligence of European gamers (at least the ones that choose to post online). Square-Enix hasn't been as European-friendly as some companies, but it's worth remembering that a lot of European games cost several times as much to localize in that region as they do in America and are likely to be purchased by 1/4 of the number of gamers. Mathematically, it just doesn't make sense to give the region the same priority, but Europeans are too busy whining to see that. Now Square-Enix is buying a European company with ease of localization in that region being one obvious objective and what are Europeans doing? They're complaining and calling the company 'bigots.' Real smart there, Europeans. Smart as a pile of bricks.

@yihdego: No, actually it'll still be published by Eido but also carrying the Warner Bros/DC Comic label for NA version. The one for Japan will be published by Konami, not SE like some people may think.

Square Enix cannot make anything but RPG's,they're the most tired developer in existence and I don't know what they're plan for updating legacy releases from Eidos library like Deus Ex and Thief.
