@Dead Giveaway: inversely, that's also why some-most people prefer games like killzone 2 or TF2 where you can start out as a class with it's own weapons so you dont need to go through the hassle of skulking for weapons and being hunted by enemies at the same time.

@Tim Reilly: yeah. i think youre right. uncharted seems to be moving in the wrong direction. my biggest gripe with the first one was all random and unnecessary killing sections. for an exploration game there seemed to be very little exploring and a whole lot of killing. the addition of multiplayer seems to confirm this is the direction the series will continue in.

I think Nathan Drake was a great character, you believed he could exist, he can do this stuff. The game was really fluid so nothing suddenly popped up out the blue (okay Zombie Spanish Nazi's).
I think a treasure hunting aristocrat trained in martial art's and gun's is a bit less believable.
Either you play games weirdly or are using the Immersion as the wrong word.

@n00b_pwner: I have to disagree with you there. The fact that you can climb, jump and scamper across the landscape makes the multiplayer very interesting to me. There are all kinds of sniper points, choke and flank points to be found that opens up the gameplay, I'm sure. When was the last time a console MP game offered that? One of the things that piss me off about MGO is that the stages are beautifully rendered but there are areas you just simply can't get to...buildings you just simply can't enter.

I can't wait. I LOVED Uncharted: Drake's Fortune, and i remember thinking throughout the entire game, "man... i wish this game had multiplayer"

Almost every MP game is like that. Which is why I highly enjoy games like Call of Duty, Rainbow Six, Ghost Recon, that let you start off with what you want to use.

I'm no longer into games where I have to worry about certain areas of maps & the timing for a weapon respawn. Just let me start with my favorite gun & kill everything in my path.

@ghostadv: So all the weapons are balanced? Just wondering cos I never really played the first other than the demo.

The game looks good but I think the lack of modes (announced so far anyway) and the maps look a bit off. It's a bit too open making it too much of a campers paradise and leaving the people trying to move through the centre too vulnerable. It's only one map though so I'm not commenting on the whole thing but may aswell give my impressions.

I have to say that this ROCKS!!!!!!
The whole Uncharted series, so far, has been great game play. I expect this one to be the same and Naughty Dog has not disappointed.

Cannot wait. Will probably be the one game I play online with (other than Fat Princess) this year.

Would've been cool if you can make your own guy though, like a create a character mode. Especially if you could collect gold or treasures and use them to purchase new clothes or accessories for your treasure hunter.

Holy shit! I was skeptical at first when the MP aspect was announced but goddamn, that looked awesome. Sign me up. I was going to get Uncharted anyway...first day, but this is mint beyond expectation. It's sad though...PS3 has some pretty robust online offerings. I've been trying to get back to Warhawk and MGO but I keep getting sidetracked by other games....R2, KZ2, UT3..."sigh"

So take Gears of War and Tomb Raider, and make an average looking multiplayer mode nobody would play for long.

Sounds like most games these days with the multiplayer as an afterthought (I am looking at YOU Gears of War).

Was really looking forward to this game... Now I'm REALLY looking forward to this game. I loved Uncharted, but there has been a lot of discussion about what multiplayer would have been like in it. Lots of people would say "it would ruin the game blahblahblah," while some of us would say things along the lines of "if they added multiplayer that played exactly like the single-player it would be awesome." And lo-and-behold, here we have that multiplayer, and it does look awesome. I would still love U2 without it, just like I loved U1 without it, but if it turns out as good as it looks, then it's a definite plus.

@Archaotic: Wholehearted agreement. This looks AMAZING. Sells me far more than a Halo 3 Beta. I had already expected to pick up both inFamous and this... but I didn't expect to spend much time with the beta. Change of plans! That trailer was nicely done, too. If you didn't know beforehand that it was about multiplayer- I didn't, I watched it before I read the article title- it really gives you that rush when it suddenly becomes apparent that this is competitive multiplayer.

@ghostadv: Well that's kind of the point of Gears. Power weapons are the centre of the conflict because they give your team the advantage and you generally need good teamwork to acquire them.

They aern't the be all and end all though. It's quite easy to get people to waste ammo by baiting.

Makes me less interested in the game. Shooting 200 guys as an "average joe" in Uncharted really broke the immersion for me in an otherwise cool Tomb Raider-style game. To see that they're really focusing on combat by adding a multiplayer mode signals that Un2 isn't going to be the game I'd be interested in.

The "shoot behind your back while carrying the flag" move is pretty badass, though.

Damn, Naughty Dog...I don't know how they do it, but they just keep setting the bar higher. The Uncharted demo didn't sell me, but I bought the game on impulse and it was probably the biggest surprise success for me this generation, just above Crackdown.

Eh, I fear another Resistance 2 like ending with this one. Call me skeptical, but a game like Unchartered was a good single player game with the potential to be phenomenal. Not saying it still won't end up this way, but history glooms my hopes.

Owning both the 360 and PS3 has me clamoring for the lost art of the single player campaign not another franchise destined for the multiplayer flavor of the month, and that is where I see this heading. Oh well I just found out my local library carries games for each platform so I might not even have to spend money renting it if it turns out like I fear it might.

Here's to hoping I am wrong.

@Etheris: Yea the acrobatics was the only thing I liked about the original really. I never really liked the cover gameplay in Gears either, it just felt rather simplistic and repetetive to me, and by now I just can't stand anymore of it. Then again I used to work for a company that developed two rather crappy cover-shooters, so I guess that didn't help either

While their suite of options is pretty awesome, there's something about Epic not being able to produce a legitimately balanced and fair multiplayer experience in the Gears series that has made me stopped playing their titles far earlier than many other multiplayer games.

@abort_user: See,I had no trouble with as I approached the game as an adventure title, which may or may not involve some intense action set pieces,not just as an exploration game where shooting people constantly would be out of place.

Either way you slice it, though, that trailer just made me completely confident in the fun that will be had while playing the game online. It sold me on the component, for sure(the game itself was already a must-buy based solely on the single player).

Reminds me of Gears of Wars coop Horde mode. The coop does anyways. I can't wait for Uncharted 2 but would have preferred a coop through the campaign. 3 players in Horde mode? Gears of War 2 does that with 4 players so I'm not seeing anything new here. I hate to turn this into a comparison but this game is trying to instill this coop mode as something new and unrivaled which is not. Why drop us in a match with waves of enemies and claim its new if another game already does that and gives us 4 players online? Anyhow, I know Uncharted 2 will be awesome without a doubt. Things that would make this game awesome are 2 player coop through the campaign, just like Gears of War 2.

@orangeson5: This makes Gears Of War looks like shit as far as I'm concerned anyone who hasnt played uncharted 1 should just shut up as your opinion is invalid right now. The mixture of armed, unarmed combat, stealth, and platforming is just made of win and nyone trying to deny this is just trying to justify their fanboyism.

I like Gears cuz they did something different in the online where you can actually take cover rather than just run to a wall and peak around stuff in other online games. But to me the whole "Run for this weapon" feel is the one drawback... you know, besides lag.

Wow. This is a really well done trailer. The moment when suddenly all other players pop up in the game world is totally stunning. This multiplayer combined with singleplayer mode will certainly made Uncharted 2 a really solid product. Game on!

But I have to agree the visuals, (probably just this map specifically) doesn't really do much. That and the gun's and jerky animations (probably a bit of lag) don't have much "meat" to them.

The platforming was amazing and that aspect of the multiplayer looks like it will be the most fun. I understand the appeal of it but besides the platforming aspect of it, I don't think it will be that great. The multiplayer that is. The single player? Will be amazing. I think the multiplayer will be something people try out a few times with either the beta or the retail copy, and then not go back to it. There will be a crowd that likes it of course, but I don't see it being that big.

@wahrugene: well that damned cover gameplay is in pretty much every game these days and PoP-style platforming is loosing it's freshnes as well, even if they're not often in the same games. Also the environment in this clip look rather bland, I prefered the setting in the first game.

I played the first game and while so many praise it, it makes no sense to me. If feels like the most generic game I've ever played and the shooting mechanics were beyond lame. Yeah, it the graphics were pretty in some places. But I don't get the appeal. And the story got increasingly lamer as I got to the bizarre ending.

My only gripe about Uncharted 1 is the missing online features. Love the story and the blockbuster summer movie feeling playing the single story mode. Uncharted 2 already on my buy list when the gameplay leaked during GDC, now this multiplayer mode definitely SEALED THE DEAL!!!

You's do not sound impressed at all =s. There are a lot of people who like this "generic" gameplay. For example, Gears of War but you can't jump in that (which has a big fan base still). Uncharted 2 has already received positive criticism, just look at some of the comments bellow.

But fair enough, opinions are opinions. I personally thought the first game was good and I would buy this game because it looks interesting so far.

@MaximusDM: I'm glad to see I'm not the only one! Geez, people praise the first one so much, but I just didn't get it. Nothing stood out about the game.

@wahrugene: You can read? As I said, I was concerned it would be to the detriment of the single player portion of the game, which I think should be ND's focus. I was a massive fan of Uncharted, and didn't want the sequel to be based primarily on multiplayer. Two people above have offered assurances that it wont though, so I am sated for now, guess I'll just have to wait and see
