Afrika Is Finally Coming To American PS3s

Regardless, I'm in the two percent; as much freedom as Afrika gives compared to Pokemon Snap, I can't just sit there, bumped up against a Moltres eggs, pegging Charmander's with apples, go to Blockbuster, and get a bunch of stickers.

Hmmm... Don't know if anyone thought of this, but it appears that all those Zebras are clones. Aren't Zebra stripes supposed to unique to that particular animal? All the stripe patterns in that picture are identical. I wonder what that says about the developers' attention to detail.

@gravyleaves: I just did it like last week. Still getting it early and half price.
The english isn't bad but i do wish there was voices.
And yeah save/load is horrible. Even a brand new game w/o pictures but i think it just makes room for all the pictures.

I hope theres a way to export these are real photos on the HDD, would seem stupid to leave this option out but i haven't played with it long enough.

Maybe my memory's a bit fuzzy, but IIRC, a bunch of people (maybe in other forums, not necessarily kotaku), did consider that game shovelware. Mainly because it didn't involve something we're accustomed to (ex. shooting to kill...something).

i got all the Afrika i needed from playing FarCry2, i really can't see how this can compare to how good that looked. At least you can shoot the wildlife in the head in FC2 :)

@Aquanaut's Holiday. It's a similar concept to Afrika, but under the sea.

It's currently Asia-only, but for some reason there's a fully English version available. I picked it up about a month ago and I'm loving it.

@wtf_G: Almost everyone I know that has tried to accomplish this in real life has had an equal number of negative experiences as positive ones (bribery, theft, disease, etc., all hit tourists pretty hard). So... I'm thinking $60 is a much safer bet.

There used to be a PS3 fanboy that would bother my friends and I when it first came out, and we would just shout "AFRIKA" at him and he would shut up.

...Now I have a PS3 and love it, but this game still looks either really terrible or really boring.

@phragit: yeah i got this and aquanaut's holiday too as well. For some reason the lack of english, or any, voices in Afrika really bothers me, but the presentation of aquanaut's holiday does fine without them. Here's hoping a patch will make it to the korean version with english voices (not at all likely) or at least with trophies!

ps.... WTF is up with afrika's save file being 500 megs. it combines the savefile and install file but makes saving REALLY slow

I picked this up for 2000 Yen the other day and I'm having a blast with it. Once you get to drive yourself it's great fun. Different camera types and lenses means you'll make better and better shots as you progress through the game. All the camera settings are there too. You can adjust the aperture, shutter speed, focal point etc.

There are online photo competitions too and the Geo Encyclopedia tells you some nice details about the animals you just took photos of. This also gives the collector type gamer something to keep himself busy with. On the down side there are no trophies and the land is a bit sparse on foliage and animals sometimes.

What do you do in this game? Hunt animals? Run away from locals? Start a zoo? Ride Lions and Tigers? where the Giraffes are and the Zebras?

@Mucudadada: Actually, it's not much like Pokemon Snap at all ... you can drive anywhere you want. You can use the camera simply on auto-focus -- or control every aspect of the exposure.

I've been playing it a lot recently, and it's quite a bit of fun.

That being said, I'm sure if you like Pokemon Snap, you'll really like this ... I like both :P

Also, what gameplay CAN you put in a game about photographing animals? You could put a dynamic world in it but the amount of effort versus the income from it will make it not worth it.

No plans on double dipping since the game is 100% in English.

I'm totally serious about this, but when this is released here, I will buy a PS3. Pokemon Snap remains to this day one of my favorite games, and I've always wanted another photography game. It's actually funny, I was just looking for information about this game yesterday, I was really hoping they hadn't canceled it. So, this is some of the best news I've heard in a long time.......unless Nintendo announces Pokemon Snap Wii, in which case, I will cry with happiness.

I'll pick this up when it comes stateside.

A friend of mine imported this last fall, and honestly, what a waste. The visuals aren't amazing at all, the gameplay is extremely slow paced and unintuitive, and lastly... it's a scenic trip around Africa with a camera.
