Army Of Two, MGS 4, Others Added To PS3 Greatest Hits
Sony today added six more Playstation 3 titles to their Greatest Hits library, dropping the price of the half-dozen to $US30 each.
Army of Two, Battlefield: Bad Company, Devil May Cry 4, Gran Turismo 5 Prologue, Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots and Ratchet & Clank Future: Tools of Destruction all get the price drop and new packaging effective June 16.
“Games deemed ‘Greatest Hits’ have reached a significant sales threshold. This latest selection features several critically acclaimed titles, including Gran Turismo 5 Prologue and Metal Gear Solid 4, which represent the high calibre of quality software that is available on the PS3 system,” said Scott A. Steinberg, vice president, product marketing, SCEA. “We’re looking forward to making this group of best sellers even more accessible to consumers, while we continue to deliver more value to the overall PS3 platform.”

@MagickBocks:
It's still a two year old game that's more than met the specifications for a Greatest Hit. I won't buy it until they price drop. Which should probably be around 2011 when Uncharted 1 & 2 will be bricked together.
Squirrelbot3000
@Hiero: OH GOD I know! My button-mashing arm was hurting so bad by the end of that ordeal. The first time I played it, where he gets to the end and the screen kind of fades out, I was like, "I KILLED SNAKE! I wasn't fast enough to save him!" *cries*
I'm so glad he survived, though. What a relief!
@BubbleF**kingBuddy:
Is that a game box or a nascar racer? I am sure they could cram in a few more if they tried.
Aprotosis
I never understood why Metal Gear Solid has seen numerous price drops since it launched in June (it's now $29 to $49 in most stores I visit), but older games like Ratchet & Clank, Heavenly Sword, and many others are still hanging around at $60.
I'm glad Ratchet & Clank is finally dropping, though.
Meanwhile, I just bought the Metal Gear Solid 4: Limited Edition on sale for... $30! (Canadian, too!) Talk about sweet deal!

@thedoorsdk:
My guess is because it's still being sold in a console bundle.
@starwave: is it even possible to fail at that part? Never tried to stop button mashing <.<"
@Snappywave: subtitle option + more access = profit: Same here.
@RyuuzakiBjorn:
:P
wonder when solid snake will be appearing on that cover, either that or he is well hidden
pneboy
Wow, by the time I buy a PS3. Everything will be dirt cheap and I'll party like it's Christmas 2006!
@☆スãƒãƒ¼ã‚¯ ☆: man i remember that part.shit i was all into it.yelling at the tv "CMON SNAKE DONT DIE ON ME" when pressing that button(which made my fingers tired as hell)and it seemed he wasnt going to make it and otacon yelling at you to stay alive dont give up. WOW.
starwave
@Grumpz®: Internet Guardian Angel®: same here, I bought the game when I got my console, and im on the same part...i have to follow this guy through the city, and i kept failing it over and over again so i just stopped playing, and havnt touched it since last year. I need to, and want to, I just know I hate the part that im on -_-
im still suprised that Heavenly Sword and Uncharted arent Greatest Hits yet....though I think there going to wait until Uncharted 2 comes out to make Uncharted a greatest hits, that way they can maybe get more sales for the game when people go to pick up U2 (kida like with Halo...it diddnt reach platinum status until a couple months before H2 came out, and same with Resistance...that one diddnt become a greatest hits until about 4 or 5 months before R2 came out)
Ironically, most of these titles already sell for under $30 CDN at the EB Games where I work. In fact, I can pay $19.99 for a preowned copy of Army of Two (a new copy would be $24.99 if we stocked it). I wonder if this means these games will see a price increase when they arrive as Greatest Hits.
Roudi
@walls99: isnt it crazy tho if you think about it? if its 30 bucks thats a rip off should be 19.99 new.then i'll get it(i did have it before but eventually got rid of it for newer games,great game tho that i want back).but man we arent getting these horrible game cases are we? if so im just gonna have to buy game cases on ebay then.
starwave
@Snappywave: subtitle option + more access = profit: Me too... I've been holding out on getting it until it reaches greatest hits.
@Slagathorian:
That would be amazing. It's pretty sad to still see Mario and Zelda at 50 bucks, considering how long they've been out.
But Wiis are sold every day, and those are games people want. It's just that there are other 50 dollar games that I'll never try out, since the price won't freaking drop.
sweenish
YES.
MGS4, I knew you could do it! You made it to the finishline, just like Snake struggled and got through that oversized microwaved that almost had him fried to a crisp!
@PissedPS3Fan: I´m thinking on getting GT5 prologue, just because i want to see it in glorious full HD, and $30 is less painful to pay for a demo.
Daniel Pizarro Sánchez
Time to finally buy DMC4 and BF:BC.
PowerFeed
@Boom-Chicka-Ah: I'm sure there's a few spots in there for some more stickers. Germany better hurry up and get doing that, or someone might actually know what game they're buying.
Isn't Bad Company already $20? Or are they talking about the Gold Edition?
iFOREIGNi
@MrGilder: Same. I've been waiting for the price drop.
Still a little confused why Uncharted hasn't been added to the greatest hits line-up, though.
@phrequency: As of Now Halo 3 isn't. But don't worry about picking it up later on down the road, because its online community of gamers isn't going anywhere.
Does anyone know if the wii gets any greatest hits?
Thats Metal Gear Solid 4
Warren Marshall
The bestbuy over here in Canada (Toronto) has the special edition for $29.99. If I had known this on release day i would have definitely held back LOL
Warren Marshall
@Powerslave: so youre saying its more like shareware youre not supposed to and youre also expected to pay for it?
abort_user
@HenryHSH: has anyone told you that youre not a very good salesman?

@mojoald:
This "demo" has more content than a lot of full fledged racing games. And I thought it was a good buy at $40
jacksons98
@mojoald:
Actually... that's not irony... Irony would be if a came titled "The Worst Game Ever" became a Greatest Hits Title.... Or a game that never sold any copies did the same.
This literary moment brought to you by Jim, the Letter Q and the number 6
JimmyNice
Yesssss! I need to rebuy MGS4 because my brother sold it without my permission. :|
Sony's on the move pre - E3, this a good sign
@mojoald: Well it's a bit more than a typical demo.. Since most demo's let you play for maybe an hour max, maybe 1 car, 2 tracks, etc. This also has quite a few cars, several tracks, online play, and more. Now racing games tend to bore me after a few nights, but GT Prologue is much more complex than just a demo..
@metallicorphan: On yet another note, I picked up a copy of Heavenly Sword in Zavvi for £7.50. Not a game that was ever really on my get list, but for £7.50 I was definitely willing to give it a home!
@ThursdayNext: and the occasional ass grab... err pat, I meant pat
JimmyNice
@therage33: It is worth it, but I bought it and sold it (bah, stupid me) and I'll be damned if I pay $55 for a used copy because that would be stupid again.
@Mister Jack contains Potassium Benzoate (That's Bad): I've long regretted trading in my Uncharted. I'd love to replay it and get some trophies in the process, but seeing dozens of used copies for $55 at EB (Canada's GameStop) isn't enticing. I've been holding out for a price cut. Maybe I'll get my old disc back instead of the horrid yellow mess of a package the Greatest Hits come in.
@chaseus: Oh hai, I see what u did thar
@chaseus: MGS4 German Platinum Hits.
@PissedPS3Fan: Yeah, I've been waiting on a price drop for that one. Yay!
Everard
This is the worst packaging art design ever. The art director or designer needs to be fired asap. who's letting this shit through?
spankbot72
back in the good old days Greatest Hits were $20. . . *sigh* War (and the economy) has changed
Anyone else feel that its a little ironic that they're calling an overpriced demo one of the PS3's greatest hits?
mojoald
even yet, they more deal savy gamers have gotten these on half.com or mamazon for $20 and under a long time ago
Anthony Felix
@pasde: I believe it's just "Platinum", not "Platinum Games".
@HenryHSH: I liked Army of Two. It's "Commando" meets "Lethal Weapon". If you didn't like it then you never played it Co-Op with beer and a friend.
ThursdayNext
@BubbleF**kingBuddy: They are both terrible, though the US one is much less terrible. I kinda wish ours was less terrible though... But maybe it's just that I don't exactly like red to be used like that.
@danterandal19: Agreed!
@Mister Jack contains Potassium Benzoate (That's Bad): Agreed! I'll continue to hold off - I can't plop down $60 knowing that the price will drop before too long. I waited forever for Obilivion(the 2 disc version) to come down to $30 and soooo glad I did. Amazing game and a steal for $30.
jacksbrokenego
@starwave: I agree with you there.
@Dead Giveaway: How dare you call the USK symbol a "shitty little logo". It's half the size of the universe!
ThursdayNext
@therage33: I'd say Uncharted was worth every penny to me.
Then again, my opinion is made void by the fact that I picked it up at a pawn shop for $20.
Army of Two has been $19.99 at Best Buy for what seems like quite awhile now. Amazon sells it for $19.99, too. So, their "drop" to $30? Little too late on that one...
BrandonJF
"Games deemed 'Greatest Hits' have reached a significant sales threshold."
Aren't these the only games that have reached a significant sales threshold besides Madden, GTAIV and Uncharted?
bloggerX
Finally, I can get R&C. Been waiting for the price drop since I got my ps3 - didn't want to get it for $60 only to have it drop a couple of weeks later.
Cool. I've really wanted to get Ratchet and Clank. I'll probably pick it up at $30.
RyderJ
@Mister Jack contains Potassium Benzoate (That's Bad): Ahh, I was waiting for uncharted too I fully expected it to get announced this week.
I'm kinda surprised at prologue hopefully it's $20 not $30.
didnt know it wasnt Platinum in other countries yet,i saw it for sale as Platinum range last week in HMV,costing £24.99...which really,isn't that great a price seen as though its coming up to a year now and you can get the original version for prolly less(not pre-owned,just shops selling it for less)...they really know how to fleece us with those platinum ranges
(on another note i just bought Assassins creed in the Classics range for £14..but that is a bit older than MGS4)
Do NOT buy Army of Two for $30. I'll sell you my copy for the cost of shipping.
p.s: I take no credit for the mediocrity of the game. Thank EA for that.
@jayntampa:
Wasn't the game $40 new when it released some time ago? The hell? I don't care if it's all super-realistic and shiny looking- "Burnout" has 10x as much content and fun and costs a whole Hamilton less.
Maybe I'll finish playing mgs4 soon then, I never bought it and just borrowed it from a friend. Got to the sneaking through some European city part and it just annoyed me to the point I stopped playing but now I'll surely pick it up.
Grumpz®: Internet Guardian Angel®
@Southrncomfortjm: By that same logic though, I'd imagine MGS4 would probably still be selling pretty well to new PS3 owners. Seems a little early for a cut of that magnitude.
Yay! A demo is now only $30 ... GT fans rejoice!
On a more serious note, I might now pick up Ratchet and Clank ... and I'm sure my nephew will get MGS4, so this will definitely spur some sales.
@therage33: My compelling argument: But it's really good!
@Dead Giveaway: It just screams "bargain bin".
BubbleF**kingBuddy
@Boom-Chicka-Ah: Thats just for the sake of Germany's rating board i think. The US ones lookes just fine.

Looks like it's finally time to buy Ratchet & Clank Future.
PissedPS3Fan
@Mister Jack contains Potassium Benzoate (That's Bad): It has to do with making money. If Uncharted is still selling a decent amount at its current price point then they won't lower the price and give it Plat Hit status.
@pasde: Platinum hits just means they finally decided to lower the price. MGS4 obviously sold way more than a million copies a long time ago. Sales of MSG4 have obviously slowed, so they are trying to pick it back up by lowering the price.
I remember the original Halo on Xbox didn't get Greatest Hits status until Halo 2 came out.
@Boom-Chicka-Ah: It still looks better than the LBP disasters I've brought kicking and howling into this world...
@phrequency: It might not be, but you can find it cheap if you look around. I bought a new version of the Heroic edition for $35 when Circuit City closed.
Damn it! I add my voice to those waiting for Uncharted to be on the cheap. I refuse to pay almost full price for a game that came out like 2 years ago, no matter how good people say it is.
@Mister Jack contains Potassium Benzoate (That's Bad): Well, Ratchet & Clank Future arrived a few weeks before Uncharted and just now is getting the nod, so it shouldn't be too long for Nathan now - I'd expect it before the sequel arrives for sure.
@Fadecy: Rival Schools for PSN/XBLA PLZ: Yeah, the yellow is the eyesore for all the boxes.
But this MGS4 one also is plastered with a whole bunch of other little shitty logos.
Not to mention the actual cover isn't that great.
@BubbleF**kingBuddy: I can't unsee it!
Stickers are the new box art for sucessful games.
Looks like a freaking little big planet abomination.
so these games that were formally 60 bucks on release gets dropped to 30.good half price.but what about gt5p? is this also 30?because when this got released it only costs 40 bucks new.so gt5p only got a 10 price drop? shouldnt it be less?
starwave
@Dead Giveaway: It's not that bad... it's just the warning light yellow. If they changed it to silver it would look much better, but then it wouldn't stand out as much.
Darn!... I guess I'm still waiting for Uncharted.
Snappywave: subtitle option + more access = profit
What the hell do they have against Uncharted? Why isn't that a Greatest Hit yet? That was damn near a launch title.
@Brian Crecente:
Okay,thanks... so there are "Platinum Games" for Europe and "Greatest Hits" for the U.S. he ?
How weird is that...
pasde
@pasde: they probably hold out so they can try to make more sales at its regular price. i've been waiting for halo 3 to reach platinum status (last i checked, it still wasn't i think).
@pasde: Apparently games sell slower. At least according to these platinum announcements.
I mean, I know for a fact that Uncharted sold better in Europe because I read it in an interview in EDGE.
Awesome. I'll definitely use this an excuse to grab a used original launch copy of Ratchet and Clank at greatest hits price.
What game cover did kotaku post because I can't see anything with all that action going on.
That box art is fucking horrid.
@pasde: It is in Europe, but wasn't a Greatest Hit in the U.S. yet.
Thank God the NA Greatest Hits boxes don't look like those crimes against humanity.
BubbleF**kingBuddy
I thought MGS4 was a "platinum game" allready ?
pasde
@Grumpz®: Internet Guardian Angel®: That part was annoying. The next act is fantastic, though.
@Mister Jack contains Potassium Benzoate (That's Bad):
I dunno... I mean, SCEA still asks $60 for Lair. And we all know the reception that got.
@D3m0n1k_Ang3l: I hear that. Heavenly Sword has been out, what, like 2 years already? That either means it sold like a dog, or that Sony missed a great opportunity to move some units.
sonofnone
@BubbleF**kingBuddy: Exactly what sprung to my mind =/
Yellow on shop ads - Come and get something we don't want and need to get rid of! We'll even throw in some discount to pretend you're getting a good deal!
Also, since when did 1 year old translate to something being classic...
@Mister Jack contains Potassium Benzoate (That's Bad):
Since when is a title released a year after a console's launch, a launch title?
Gam3r
@ThursdayNext: I only played through it once in coop with a real friend. We both hated it, actually. Maybe I needed alcohol, but I can't down the stuff without feeling extreme pain. That's no fun for me. ;[
@pasde:
Kinda funny: I,m playin it right now on my shiny new PS3 purchased 2 days ago at 29,99€! along with LBP

I love the Greatest Hits flare on the game covers.

@AngryEddy: Thats true, and even uncharted has sold way more than R&C (awesome game too btw).
@Mister Jack contains Potassium Benzoate (That's Bad): MGS4 and no Uncharted? I can't believe Uncharted 1 still isn't a Greatest Hits title!
I've played through that game 3 times already, I want to buy it but I refuse to pay $60 for a year and a half old game Ive played through 3 times already.
@MrGilder: MGS4 and no Uncharted? I can't believe Uncharted 1 still isn't a Greatest Hits title!
