@chronomasakari: You have to be careful with this kind of mentality if you still plan on buying your games at GameStop. If you're not on a known basis with the employees there, they could end up despising you for this kind of attitude. With the pressure always on, more and more every year, to get reserves and subscriptions (ESPECIALLY during the weak spring/summer months), there's a chance you'll find yourself being told there's only enough copies for reserve customers.

Yeah, it sucks letting them eat up interest on your money, but chances are you're planning on getting the game anyways, and chances aren't that you're going to be earning your own interest on that five bucks. Instead, why not ingratiate yourself with the employees? Sure, there's always the option to buy somewhere else, and that's great; it's a good idea, and nobody would tell you otherwise. But if you do want to utilize GameStop as your place to buy games, then it's really best if you find a good one with cool people (the kind you know actually care about various happenings and devs and publishers and whatnot) and reserve games for them.

Besides, there's always the possibility that limited reserves, even on what WE think are blockbuster titles, can actually bone customers on getting copies at GS. And you REALLY don't want to get a "display" copy, do you?

NextGen will most likely still be in use when they are announced (altough hopefully not quite as much) so they will make up a new buzzword

@-MasterDex-: The thing is that it has stuck, and it's not kids, developers say it all the time, and it's already beyond silly. Also there is not really any other name for this generation, and the term nextgen was never really widely used about any other generation. Before it was the 8/16/32-bit era; the term 128-bit didn't really stick though, but that generation can pretty much be summed up as the PS2 era.
Also when they actually announce the next generation, the term nextgen will still be used for this gen, so they will make up another buzzword.
I know it's unlikely that people will call it nextgen forever but it would be pretty funny.

@diagorus: I doubt this game's going to sell out, almost no games sell-out now a days. I'd only pre-order something if I could get something for it, otherwise I'll just walk into gamestop and buy it straight-up. Though I'll still be a sucker to pre-order limited-editions only to get completely fooled after cause 3 months-out I'll still see limited-editions at walmart.

@beril: Next Gen was used during the 16-bit days when talking about the Saturn, PlayStation "Ultra" 64. I think within a year of the Saturn and PlayStation coming out, no one was calling them Next Gen anymore. Of course, back then just about everything you read was in a magazine written by game journalists, and not on forums and blogs where the regular Johnny Lunchbox player likes to use terms incorrectly. And it seems the game companies and their ad agencies are following suit. The term next gen to describe the current consoles should have ended in 2007.

As unpopular as it is to say, this is the first time there were systems of essentially two generations out and selling at the same time.

We have the HD consoles (360 and PS3) and the SD consoles (Wii and PS2).

They should probably change "Next-Gen" to "High Definition" at some point however.

Maybe not, but it would be quite funny, and at this rate it doesn't seem all that impossible. The term Nextgen was never widely used for any other generation as far as I can remenber, and certainly not 3 years after they were released.

After the disappointing sales Tim Schafer has seen in the past, he now seems to "get" the importance of good marketing. I hope his game (like all games) gets the sales it deserves for its quality, no more, no less.

I'm not worried about it selling out... I did it mainly because I knew I was going to buy it, and I had the extra money right now.
