Capcom Soundtracks Are Sumthing Else
Sumthing Else Music Works continues to strengthen its lineup of video game soundtrack offerings, with a deal with Capcom scoring them the scores to Resident Evil 5, Street Fighter IV, Dark Void, and more.
Soundtracks to Capcom’s latest games will soon be available for purchase at select retail locations, Sumthing Else Digital, and iTunes as part of a new licensing partnership between the two companies. The deal allows Sumthing Else to offer music from Resident Evil 5, Dark Void, Street Fighter IV, Dead Rising: Chop Til You Drop, Monster Hunter Freedom Unite, Bionic Commando, and Spyborgs. The new music will join previously released Capcom tunes from Street Fighter 3 Third Strike, Devil May Cry 4, and the history of the Resident Evil Series. Release dates for the new soundtracks will be announced at a later time.
Can’t say I’m a huge fan of the music from Capcom games, but with Battlestar Galactica’s Bear McCreary scoring Dark Void, I might just have to pick that one up.

@interim is a username referencing an indefinite period of t...: I actually agree that recent Capcom games don't have great music. To me, SF 4's music is actually the worst aspect of the game.

@Kamakazie: i think everything about street fighter III blows street fighter II away. the tracks (ESPECIALLY in 3s), while not as theme songish as sf IIs were just better tunes from an overall music standpoint. the animation was better, the fighting system was better... i even liked the character design (for its time) better. sure, sf IIIs characters werent as iconic as folks like guile or bison.. but they were definitely more creative. an indian-british boxer who comes from a wealthy family, an african princess that practices capoeira, the "grandsons" of an important chinese martial artists that work in a restaurant and also rollerblade/skateboard. so much awesomeness there.
@the7k: the dreamcast was the last hurrah in my opinion. they had a ton of great games/music on that wonderful machine.
I'd love to get some of the music that plays in the mall during Dead Rising...

I can't say Music is Capcom's strong point, but they do have some nice tunes here and there. Like that song which I think is from phoenix wright in the video above(I don't remember hearing it).
Strey
@MSUHitman: Tell me about it. Some bizarre omissions, too. Even if it's just the "classics", why would they leave out Vega's theme? It's present in his "anime intro".
@Kamakazie: SFII did have Guile's theme. Cammy's theme wasn't bad either... aside from that, though, I much preferred SF3.
I think almost all of Capcom's NES to at least PSX era music was phenomenal. Final Fight, Vampire Hunter & Savior, XvSF, MSHvSF, MvC, SF3:2, SF3:3, Devil May Cry - plenty of good tunes.
They fraking better put the theme song of SFIV up for single download. For that not to be on the "soundtrack" included in the CE is a joke.
I'm not sure how you could NOT be a fan of Capcom music. I mean, you mentioned Bionic Commando. The original game has the most iconic soundtrack ever. And Mega Man games? I don't know any gamer that doesn't recognize that music.
thebigcheese
None of those games appeal to me and therein neither does the soundtracks for those games
I'll save my money for better games like Arkham Asylum and Infamous

@Kamakazie:
That's why I said different opinions. I found SFIII's music to be terrible.
shooot.. i have to quote Zolbrod, "NOT a fan of Capcom music!?" Over the years, Capcom has provided some of the best music from video games in my book. Besides video games, music is a HUGE passion of mine. I love rock and hip hop, I used to play shows in a rock band, I freestyle, I've made a few beats, and Ive written quite a few songs.
I've always loved game music since I was a kid, when I'd first get a game.. I'd always go straight to the sound test and check the tunes. Thanks to ffshrine.org's forums.. I've been able to get my hands on some of the best stuff I heard as a kid. Nowadays, I listen to video game soundtracks as much (and sometimes more depending on the phase I'm going through) as all the other styles of music I dig.
Out of my gigs of game music, I'd say that Capcom or Sega has the most games represented there. Now I wont argue that the Capcom of late has been doing all that amazing in the music departmen, but anything pre ps2 is golden.
mega man 3, mega man 3 arranged (wily wars), mega man x, mega man maverick hunter x, street fighter II, street fighter alpha series, street fighter 3 series, x-men mutant apocalypse, x-men children of the atom, the vs games (excluding snk vs capcom/marvel vs capcom 2), final fight 3, powerstone, zack and wiki, tatsunoko vs capcom (i know its mostly arranged music, but it is possible to screw up an arrange), bionic commando (rearmed), and street fighter IV are some of my top soundtracks.
I think that recently, their music hasnt been as good because most of capcoms recent games have been more serious than in the past. Resident Evil, Devil May Cry, Lost Planet, and Dead Rising probably benefit from non-orchestral/rock music.
Gamasutra did an article on recent game music, and there was an amazing amount of discussion going on there. I mostly agree with what the writer was saying.
@SG79: While I believe SF2 is a better game than SF3, there's no way the music in SF2 is better.

Are we advertising awesome Capcom songs now?

@PlatformJunkie:
Different opinions because I thought the SFIII games had terrible music compared to the SFII and the Zero games.
There are far better fighter soundtracks out there, such as T2 remixed and both original and remixed T3 OST's.
In recent years, they haven't had the best soundtracks and the ones that stand out are composed outside of the company. Dead Rising excepted.
Check out music from Capcom's Street Fighter games, Breath of Fire, etc. etc. and THEN come back to us and say you're not a fan of their music.

@MoeB: Because it wouldn't be the same game? Or am I assuming you wished Dark Chronicles was based on RE5?

@PlatformJunkie: I'd disagree that recent Capcom games have great music, so I believe he has a point.

I've got a question for Capcom. Why don't they bring Resident Evil 5 to the Wii just like EA did with Dead Space. Why?!
MoeB
I agree Megaman series has some of the best old school chip-tune music in gaming history. Check it out www.ocremix.org
Valkrin
@Zolbrod: Or any of the Street Fighter 3 games. That series, especially the Dreamcast version of Third Strike, is probably one of the best fighting soundtracks there is.
PlatformJunkie
NOT a fan of Capcom music!?
Never played any of the NES Mega Man games then, I take it?
Does anyone know if the Chop Til You Drop soundtrack is the same as the original Dead Rising soundtrack?
I´m a fan of DMC and RE soundtracks so i actually might give this one a go, the Orchestraded pieces of 5 are one of the best video game music i´ve heard. Winds of Madness is gold.
@PlatformJunkie: Ryu's music was the only tune i enjoyed in 3S. Most of them were kind of, well, dull. They didnt have that "umph" that makes me wanna go and shoryuken someones ass.
Jazz is probably the last thing I want to hear while fighting ninjas and crazy one-armed hermits.
Crap!! Looks like it's time to offload those Resident Evil 3 Nemesis CD's.
@Strey: Really? How many Megaman games have you played!?
@Zolbrod: I said not a HUGE fan. Doesn't mean I am not a fan. ;)
@Ero-Sennin: Wow. Even taking the hip-hop/jazz themes out of the loop, are you really just gonna sit there and ignore Urien's theme, Gill's theme, Chun-Li's theme, Q's theme, Akuma's theme and Ryu's theme?
The only good themes in IV are the Volcano/Intro second half, Parking Lot, the rival themes, and character select themes, and except for the rival themes, they don't hold a candle to the SF III soundtrack. The intro to Dudley's New Generation theme alone kills most of SF 4's soundtrack.
And SF 3 doesn't have character themes? What game were you playing? Last time I checked, most characters had their own theme in New Generation and Third Strike, with a few shared themes, and every character had their own theme in 2nd Impact.
PlatformJunkie
@Nawara_Ven: I didn't understand that with the 2 disc OST either... they have a song for Rose but not others like Vega, Balrog, and Blanka?
@MSUHitman: Indestructible (and the Japanese version) are on that one though, but they're only about 1:30 long. It looks like the soundtrack mentioned here will be the same as the one released in Japan, so it should be on there too. The soundtracks that come with special editions lately are useless and should not be viewed as a selling point.
@PlatformJunkie: You can't be serious. IV's ost blows III's out of the water. Volcano Stage music is single handidly better than any track in 3S.
@Kamakazie: Crazy as hell son. So, generic hip hop music that doesn't even go well with fighting in the first place, is better than stuff like Ryu,Guile and Ken's themes from SF2?
You sir...are so wrong.
@PlatformJunkie: Um I have to disagree there. 3RD Strike had a HORRRRRRRIBLE soundtrack.
I don't know about you, but hip hop isn't exactly fighting music. Hell, they didn't even have character themes in SF3.
The best version of 3rd Strike is the hacked version that has stuff like Pantera and Fear Factory on it. Even though I'm not a fan of Pantera, the music goes with the actual fighting so much better than that urban crap that Capcom did with 3S.
Classic gaming music I could see this being done on, back then everything had a unique sound to it with catchy tunes.
Wouldnt catch me buying any soundtracks of todays stuff, honestly anyone who ever owned a NES how many songs from game titles compared to newer game theme songs can you hear just a bit of and recognize?
@the7k: Oh yeah, and I forgot to mention, I did like SFA2's Charlie Theme and Sakura Theme. SFA3's music was pretty damn generic - the only theme in SFA3 worth a gain of salt was Bison's Theme, and I much prefer the Namco X Capcom rendition of it.
@Ero-Sennin: Ryu and Ken's themes are iconic, but I'm pretty sure that has less to do with the themes, and more to do with the Ryu and Ken. Otherwise, they don't really have much going on.
@Ero-Sennin: There were a few 'jazzy' themes in SF3, but they at least fit the characters. For the most part, the SF3 music was hippity-hop music.
Which fits, for me. After all, it's Street Fighter. Hippity-hop music fits the mostly Urban environments featured throughout the SF3 series.
@Ero-Sennin: Well I think the point is, to me, all the previous SF games, except SF1, are killing SF4. Even Alpha 3 which uses the same set of instruments for every single song.
PlatformJunkie
@PlatformJunkie: I like all the music in SF games. I have the SF4 theme song blaring out in english and then in japanese on loop through my headphones for the past few days now..."Open the Next door etc" I love it! Reminds me of Nsync.
Seriously though, remember its about music and not whether SF3 is better as a game than SF4. I quite like the direction the music has taken in 4 but still seek solace in the familiarity of 3.
robinthakur
@robinthakur: You know, I should've clarified that, because I was only speaking on the music in my last post.
