I do think the drinking age should be 18 though. Just cause if you're old enough to serve in the military and die, you should be allowed a freaking beer once in awhile.

but i dont think it should be 18, 19 is better, because thats when you go away to college, and when your 18 you could still be in high school, and that would in turn allow the freshmen to get a hold of alcohol easier.

@TrjnRabbit: I'd say that there probably is a little wisdom to them. Many people are willing to "embrace their adulthood" by going overboard on their new found freedom. I'm sure it is meant to help someone gain more maturity before partaking in something that could be deadly in the hands of the immature (i.e. drunk driving).

@Pombar: In Germany, the drinking age is 16, and you don't hear about their alcohol problems like the US.

The 21 age law forces people under 21 to binge drink, because they never know when they can get their next amount of beer.

Also, people older than the drinking age tend to stop drinking so much like the they would just a few years younger.

I think it's a bit extreme that you can give your like at 18 but can't have a beer till 21. In Canada where I used to live it's 18 which is reasonable. I currently live in South america and I'm a few years under 18, I can get a beer at any store I want. I think it works though. For example now that I can get one anywhere I want it's not some big deal to try and sneak one or something

@HueyFreeman: That hasn't worked in the UK, though I agree that 18 is a perfectly decent drinking age, while 21 is just a bit extreme.

i wish i could afford the plane ticket to LA. i just dropped 400 bucks into my car though. i've always wanted to hangout (read: get drunk) with the people of kotaku.

@HueyFreeman: It's bad to take away given rights if it doesn't conflict with moral issues within the population where it harms others intentionally.

Drinking age should be lowered to 18, so people stop thinking they need to drink to be cool at younger ages.

Why can't the law reverse itself back to 18 and over again? It worked during Vietnam because of the draft. Why did they have to go ahead and reverse it when the rest of the world has 18+ and not 21+?

I'll hopefully be there though I suspect my 11 hour flight might make me a little jet lagged :)

@n00b_pwner: You should be given the right to drink at 18. You should also be able to drive without wearing your seatbelt if you so please. Or do any illicit drug for that matter. We are in the era of "nanny state" socialism politics though. Soon they will outlaw your right to eat more than one hamburger per fast food visit.
