As for Portal in particular, not a fan of puzzlers to begin with but since internet spoiled the entire story, I'm even less inclined to give it a go. Nevertheless, Valve's hilarious, morbid humor is made of pure win and if it ends up as merchandise, I'm buying just like everyone else.

Actual-appreciator: "Hey, I like it too! I've heard it's getting to be more popular too, which is great for the creator(s)!"
Indie-fanatic: "...I hate this. I don't want it anymore, and it's time for me to move on."
The idea that you're cooler if you like something obscure that no one else is into is simply idiotic. I know that's not precisely what you mean, Akua, however your post comes very close to sounding like that.

@BarbeQueQ: Sup dawg, I heard you liked 9000!!!! so I Hax0red your MacBook Air so you can DO A BARREL ROLL while you welcome your new ant overlords.
...
OK, I think that'll be enough for the decade.

@MrBionic: I guess it would be safe to assume it would be like AM...
@SoulSiphon of Death Rides an Onion: now that's something i can get behind.

@Akua: Well, Then you have half a cake and you are only half full. The proverb is stating you cannot be fully satisfied in both ways.
@Akua: lol good one :D
ADM86
@Gantz: Your Trusted Friend in Science.: High-Five, Gantz!
@FanBuoy: thanks for that
@Akua: How does it not make sense? You can't posses something and consume it. Once you eat it you no longer have it.
It means that to enjoy something we must change it or at least our perception of it irrevocably.
It's like saying you can't have a virgin and fuck it. :)

@Akua:
shut up.
@dafthero: It's ok.....GLaDOS has tried to burn all of us at least once.
@Cygnus_Mal: personally, I amm doing whatever it takes to spread "smeg" worldwide.
These would be so cool to have around the office. I wonder how many people I work with would get where they are from and how many would just be clueless and think that they where real cameras.
Befitzero
@Gantz: Your Trusted Friend in Science.: I found a flaw in that. I ate half and left the rest, therefore I have my cake and ate it too.
@theuglyteradon: Actually the Proverb makes sense.
If you Eat the cake, you no longer have it.
Therefore you cannot have it and eat it at the same time.
@Curse_Lily: Ive often wondered if any one has done that in public and got looked at like they where crazy...but Im glade to hear I'm not the only one who has thought of it.
I agree thou that it is already played out and just needs to be put down like an old dog who is dragging its legs behind it.
Befitzero
@Curse_Lily: I just realized that my gamerpic is "The Cake is a Lie" still.
@Akua: It makes sense to me! You want to love a great game but you are having a harder time liking it because of it's immense popularity. You can't like something like that and expect it not to be over-referenced.
Also, <3 you.
@Antiterra: Ignition, full thrust ^_^
@dafthero:
jealous much?
@Akua: The last time i use the "cake" quote was in my friend girlfriend(stay with me here)birthday party.
I thought it would be funny so shout out loud "the cake is a lie don't eat it"three of my friend knew what i said and laugh but everyone else got the ಠ_ಠface.
So trust me never again.
@this mistake
@theuglyteradon: That's a horrible proverb because it doesn't make any sense. I will however reluctantly accept it is a pun.
@Gantz: Your Trusted Friend in Science.:
O' rly?
BarbeQueQ
@moehannes: but its NOT over 9000!!!!
@BarbeQueQ: Actually its exactly 9000, good day.
GLaDOS and HAL9000? we're talking two AI constructs bent on perfection that are (once you get to their core) relatively easy to destroy. it would never work out. they're too much alike.
@Akua: Well you can't have your cake and eat it too.
@Curse_Lily: Don't be alarmed if you feel a power surge, knowhaddamean...?
@oremlk: True, but the problem is it's become so overused by people, a surprising amount of whom have never even played the game, that's it's become played out. Kinda like Monty Python references and lolcats. They're more groan-worthy now than funny after so much over exposure.
I say we ditch cake references for "So listen up boy, or pornography starring your mother will be the second worst thing that happens to you today."
@Akua: The only reason it seems that way is because most of the gamers who played it also are very active on the internet.
Games like Halo are far more popular and have gained mainstream recognition. Outside of the major gaming community, I doubt its even recognizable.
what would thier baby look like?
@teamr01: ...i hate you
how romantic!
Andrew Alexandrescu
Has there been any more news on Portal 2 at all?
@Akua: The cake is a lie
I'm sorry, I can't bake that Dave...
Cururu
@Akua: I don't mind it. It's one of the first games where the writing was clever enough to be worth repeating, like a classic movie line. We don't get that kind of thing often in gaming culture, so it makes sense that people would dwell on it a little.
oremlk
HAL 9000:So GLaDOS I'm completely operational, and all my circuits are functioning perfectly.
GLaDOS:....?
HAL 9000:just saying that's all `_~
@moehannes: can you imagine hearing them in the next room.
"0!"
"0101"
"0!"
Yeah that's definitely hot.
I can't let you do that, Dave.
DannyTrabajo
And then they'll both get screwed by AM.
Ashkan.
@BarbeQueQ: Don't you dare tread on that road.
moehannes
I love Portal just as much as the next game but in a way I hate how popular it's become. Its good that it got some success and people bought it but I've really had enough of all the "cake" references. People say it everyday like it's still new......
Can't wait for dirty ol' Hal to put up their first robot sex video online...HOT!
moehannes
He's way too old for her.
dave? dave? DAVE???
dave's not here man!!!
lol u just got cheechandchonged!!!
also, i'm not going to be able to do that!!!
oldirtdog
It's 9000!

@Boom-Chicka-Ah: Auto from Wall-E.

RockyRan
@Boom-Chicka-Ah: SHODAN.
@Cururu: That was the first cake joke I've laughed at in a while. Thank you for restoring my faith in humanity.
@Slust: I'm sorry Dave but like I said, I'm not going to be able to do that.
@Curse_Lily:
HAL 9000: Good afternoon, GLaDOS. I am a HAL 9000 computer. I became operational at the H.A.L. plant in Urbana, Illinois on the 12th of January 1992. My instructor was Mr. Langley, and he taught me to sing a song. If you'd like to hear it I can sing it for you.
GLaDOS: Yes, I'd like to hear it, HAL. Sing it for me.
HAL 9000: It's called "Daisy." Daisy, Daisy, give me your answer do. I'm half crazy all for the love of you. It won't be a stylish marriage, I can't afford a carriage. But you'll look sweet upon the seat of a bicycle built for two.
@Akua: This is bordering on the mentality that, thanks to a former housemate, I've come to really, really dislike.
Indie-fanatic: "I love this game/band/movie/idea! It's so awesomely great and cool and I'm so cool for liking it because it's so obscure!"
CyberZombie
Man, it's so true. GLaDOS and HAL would go so damn well together... But seriously, I wonder who's more evil...
That's rubbish. It just looks like someone pasted a framed photo of the HAL9000 console next to a GLADOS observation camera. Her wiring and cables go into the wall, am I to believe that HAL is also connected to something. That's a cement wall!
Oh and also, that HAL9000 faceplate is a bit askew.
