Gorgeous Grapple Buggy Looks Like Bionic Car-mando
Meet Grapple Buggy, an upcoming Xbox Live Community Games title that reaches deep within the psyche to reference fondly remembered games like Bionic Commando and Blaster Master, with a little Contra-esque alien design.
Boutique developer Mommy’s Best Games—also responsible for the award-winning Community Games title Weapon of Choice—describes Grapple Buggy’s gameplay as a “sumptuous blend of buggy-driving craziness and grapple swinging glee,” which sounds almost as appealing as battling “terrifying xeno-fauna.” But the game’s debut trailer, showing off Grapple Buggy in motion, says more than any press release could hope to.
Based on the spectacular look of the Grapple Buggy and its clear attempts to tickle the portions of our brains that house fond NES memories, we’re keeping an eye on this one. Officially, it’s due to hit this Winter.

I think after the dream build play competition this year, we'll be seeing a lot of high-quality games and the service will really turn around. I hope Kotaku does more reporting on the competition and the top tier games.

@chardish: Make that COMPLETELY huge untapped potential. I've made an attempt to play the demos for each game that has come out and boy, are they all TERRIBLE!!! I do have faith that someone can make a decent community game, but for cryin' out loud can someone make one first that's even playable?
does the map in the corner remind anyone else of metroid a little bit? we can only hope that this game will be that good.
@NoBullet: As an XNA dev, I wish Microsoft would have the guts to pull apps that clearly aren't games from their lineup.
Or, at the very least, have some sort of feedback or rating system to help players separate the good games from the cruft.

@PunkyChipsAhoy: I know you speak spanish.
trailer looks ok...for ppl into this kind of thing. tight trailer song is tight.

This looks really good.
I wish more xna devs would spend more time on their stuff. Seeing calculators and massage "games" is kinda embarrassing.
@chardish:
Would be nice if they let you get achievements in these games... that vibrator game could of came up with some fun achievements :P.

@Mucudadada: I'm currently anticipating an HD Remix of Uniracers.

@chardish: Though flash is a much larger platform by a magnitude of 10, I wholeheartedly believe that there can be a triple-A Community Game... it will take a lot of marketing or viral momentum for it to happen.
I don't know who's behind this video but this is the kind of promotion more Community Games need to be doing and THANK GOD for Kotaku posting it!
These guys making this games are hard workers and are creative people but few of them understand the concept of marketing and many wonderful games will suffer going unnoticed because of it.
Honestly, there's little MS can do to fix it. You have to remember that all commercials are competing for the same thing, you're attention... any attention MS can grab will likely go to games they're financially backing. Marketing is not easy and is often an expensive prospect so good luck and congrats to this person who ever he is!
@excel_excel: pretty awesome indeed heck if i ever buy a 360 i would probably buy this game.
still cannot defeat the almighty speed buggy!
bableebooblah-new and improved.
@MaxDragon7: Definitely. The way I see it, there are definitely AAA Flash games out there; why can't the same be true for Community games?
chardish
The game is one huge pun, I just know it.

Looks more like Sonic Commando!

Best community game since BeatBlox? We'll see. I doubt it'll be as good as that is though.
@chardish: BeatBlox, man. BeatBlox. Absolutely amazing.
@MaxDragon7: EzMuze+ Hamst3r Edition is only 10 dollars and it still has less than a thousand buys. Terrible advertising has been the service's hugest downfall.

jajajajaja I'm sold with the "Holy S***!"

@chardish: Quite so. I'd love to see some of Kyle Gabler's experimental games on there.
Looks fantastic. Stuff like this really show how different the experience can be xlba
It's really nice to finally see the whole Community Games system start to produce some interesting and fun games. When it first started out, it all seemed like crap. However, now there are definitely a few excellent titles available. Lets hope the trend continues!
Ah blaster master now that was a fun game back in the days. This game reminds me of it so much think Ill have to check it out but on a bad move on their part looks like they are going to send it out around the holidays which probably means Ill forget all about it because it will be buried by all the other games out then.

@chardish: Definitely. It needs more support though! I already see many talented 'indie' developers and non-branded developers, so why not have some try out the Community? I will be looking forward to this game and future developments. :D
I'm still waiting on "Spelunking Tricycle"
Glad to see quality stuff coming out of Community Games. I'm developing a game for it myself. Community Games is huge, huge untapped potential at this point.
chardish
Perhaps this will be the first "community" game I buy.
This looks like some old-school style goodness. Glad to see Kotaku recognizing such hard work. Looks like this will be a blast to play.
Also, Explodemon.
