@Koztah: The worst part is I get sidetracked during missions. I nearly died so many times when looking for the sewers to turn on the substations. I'd see a cluster of blue shards, dive headlong for them straight into a nest of machine gun fire, and then frantically run away looking for a generator to get my health back.

I'm in the second island right now (about 50% clear so far, first island is 100%) and while the differences are subtle, I prefer it that way. If you've been to any big city, there isn't THAT much of a difference between boroughs, Manhattan being the exception. They all have their own feel, but it's not like going from night to day.

That said, the difference seems to be with the second island, everything is even MORE run down. With the first island, it looks like it was older but nice before the bomb went off. It's just beat up now.

The second island, though, has a big fortress like prison dead center surrounded by shipyards, piers, and other industrial yards, slums, and project housing with boards over the windows. The bomb going off was almost an improvement here.

Can't wait to get to the "Historic" district and cause some damage in a nice neighborhood.

I started popping ?L3? finding them and along the way i saw blue dots... Gamer ocd.. gamer ocd... INITIALIZE.. And i ended up collecting every single blue shard for the next few hours and all the john satelite thingys.. I have an ocd issue like i saw 3 ants in my room stomped them and then i saw 1 thing of trash...

My room is now 100% clean it started as stomping 3 ants ended as me shoving all my furniture out of my door unassembling stuff,
cleaning it all up then reassembling and removing back in.. I think i need to see a therapist..

Install and start a file before you download the blades, otherwise you won't see them without reinstalling the game. For some reason it's buggy where without a save file the blades don't show up.

@Koztah: Oh lord, the moment you can start picking them up after one of the early missions I went hunting for those little bastards.

Then they had to add the Dead Drops which are almost as addictive as the shards.

"Hmm... a shard over there, wait a second... omg Dead Drop signal!! Follow it nao!"

@grewal12: Yeah, I bought my copy, and went out to the car to read the manual (it's just how I roll, okay?), and didn't see any kind of preorder code thing besides the Uncharted 2 beta one. So I went back inside, and asked the guy, and he sort of grumbled, but he looked around, and found a little card.

Take the card, scratch off the grey to reveal the code, enter the code, and it will automatically download and install. Note! This is a mistake I made- you need to have a save file already, or you'll have to download it again. Installing it before you start the game does nothing, stupidly.

As for a description of the Gigawatt Blades... after Tycho of Penny Arcade's review of it, I figured it would be a tossaway, but it turns out to be really helpful. It's very cheap to upgrade, and though it only lasts for one melee blow, it WAY powers up the damage. Don't bother with it in the Neon, because the enemies are pretty weak, and tend to run away at melee, but when you start fighting the Conduits of the Warren- the fat men that create the spider things and have cannons, and all that- two max level Gigawatt Blade strikes will K.O. them before they can counterattack, which is a wonderful thing.

@undefined: great game. Its definitely the most fun I've had with an "open world" type game. Combat is tough yet satisfying and the climbing rocks. I never go out of my way to collect crap in these type of games but for some reason, I can't help but collect as many blast shards as I can in this game.

The missions get repetitive but guess what? every game gets repetitive. You're basically doing the same thing over and over. The side missions in this game could be better. I like blowing crap up and shooting bad guys. I don't like leading prisoners around. Besides that, this game is great.

I'm a little worried though that there isn't going to be enough differences between the starting section of the city and the others you unlock... I'll probably find out tonight.

I actually never paid attention to any screen shots or any videos released, hell I didn't even know what type of game it was until I played the demo and I am glad I did. It's something refreshing for me and will be picking it up next paycheck.

@PsycheE: GTAIV put me to sleep, i've been playing the same missions for the last 4 games. And side missions? Forget about it.

So they couldn't get ray liotta to voice for them, big deal.

@PsychoKitten: Agreed. I love a game with a good plot, but too many and it's hard to care about any one. There are probably less than five games/franchises of which I care about the story, but they're some of the best because of it. Everything else is all about the gameplay.

It's nice to have something other than GTA where you can mindlessly do whatever. Maybe I'm a sucker, but it was just generally fun for me. Usually I'm a huge story nut but for this, the ability to climb over everything and shoot electricity made the little kid in my squeal in delight.

Plot and story isn't always a huge factor, nor should it always be. I loved UT.

@VenomIreland: while you are technically correct, Volts can kill too, it just takes an inordinate amount of them, like say standard lightning voltage times 5. it basically cooks you. rather than causing arrythmia.

@ogt462: Obviously none of you have seen the developer diaries. It is not a voice over, it actually shows the artist with the scooby cut trying to be overly serious when I just saw that man goofing off less then 24 hours before purchase.

Turn on the subtitles so you can actually read what you are hearing. If you don't cringe once, you must get amused easily by less then average scripts, or think M. Bay is god.

GTAIV had more variety because you don't repeat the same side missions every other time. Like I said, it is the perfect comparison to Mass Effect's side quests. Rarely any dialogue, same structure different location. It is like a bad first 10 levels of MMO, go kill x amount and/or go UPS.

@dustintriplett: Actually, I think it's not that, as much as that he REQUIRES electricity now. Note how he feels sick when he enters depowered zones. I think what kills him in water isn't so much the electricity in him, as much as that electricity being conducted out of him, draining his life.

Despite some flaws, the game is just pure absolute fun. Everyone should get over what's not perfect and just enjoy a quality new IP. (Aren't we always bitching that there aren't enough of these).

@grewal12: I was actually about to post about the same problem with Gamestop. I've never preordered something online before, I usually do it in the store if I bother to preorder at all. But this time I did and the game is great (way better than expected) except I don't have a code for the blades.

Get on it Gamestop. I'm being patient, I haven't even gotten mad yet. But that's because the game is great already and I don't exactly need your exclusive power. However when I get home tonight I'm going to start itching for it. So stop opening new games and playing them then selling them back to us and email me my friggin' code.

ZOMG. this game is AWESOME. Im addicted. I've done 22% in one day. Maybe more because I did more missions after I checked my progress. Such an awesome game.
Task of the day: Get on the highest building(there's a tower I think) and do a thunder drop. heehee.

Anyone preordered it from gamestop? Did you get the gigawatt blades? I don't know how to access them. I pre-ordered it but was I supposed to get a code or something? Or do you unlock the power as you go along?

@6ironmaiden9: Demo has the opposite effect. Made me not buy the game. I spent about 10 minutes running around and was bored.

@Marker: I don't think there's an extra unlockable 'Hard' setting. They intended to be more creative in the 'Hard' setting than a simple buff to the enemies. Replayability comes by playing good and evil sides.

@PsycheE: not sure why it matters if a dev did the voice over. Sometimes it's not about money, but more about giving that dev the chance to be immortalized in voice. Don't see why that is a negative thing.

@PsycheE: Spoiled by the story and variety in GTA IV? Lulz. It was a great game but there was not a great deal of variety there and the story fell apart towards the end.

I like the complaints about immersion...coupled with turning on the subtitles. Or that you recognise faces from developer diaries therefore game = bad. This can't be serious.

@6ironmaiden9: The game is actually extremely weak. It has one of the lamest intro and if you turn the subtitles on, you will cringe at the childish and "wtf were they thinking" dialogues. Zeke and Maya seems like it was created by a bunch of 12 year olds and the game carries zero substance for progression. They showed TOO much in the demo. It also breaks all immersion when you see the developer diaries the day before purchase and see the SAME employees appear throughout the mass media propaganda because they couldn't afford(?) actors. "Wasn't that the texture artist that is trying to convince me to break down the gates?"

Another thing were the side missions. It is stricken with Mass Effect-itis, same cookie cutter missions where it repeats itself every 2nd or 3rd npc. Maybe I was spoiled by GTAIV, but the story and the variety just plain sucks. Very visceral action and pretty enough, but after 100 or blast shards and the nth time killing trucks/reapers, go to that sewer and get that radar. It just turns the motivation off to keep continuing.

This game was well worth the price. It has a GTA feel to it, but done much better. It's been a lot of fun unlocking more powers. The first real boss fight is a lot of fun and was even more creepy than anything in Resident Evil.

@6ironmaiden9: The exact same thing happened to me. It was a good demo. The thing about the demo was that it wasn't short like most of them. It gave you a good amount of time to get comfortable and you were able to explore quite a bit. I spent an hour with the demo.

The Uncharted 2 demo is a nice little bonus that I had forgotten about.

I picked up inFamous yesterday, and man, what an amazing game. I knew it would be good, but I didn't realize how much fun I'd be having. You really do feel like a superhero. Nothing is more fun than jumping off a building only to come crashing down in a hail of sparks and electricity decimating everything and everyone in your way.

I like the karma system as well. I decided to go the "evil" way first. There are times when I'm naturally inclined to be "good", so I have to do my best to ignore that instinct and just kill and destroy everything. Excellent game!

So far, I'm digging the hell out of inFamous. Weirdest thing: the demo controls felt tighter than the full game, but that can be tweaked.

Love how the game begins and the crowd throws rock at you. Nice touch.

Yeah just beat the game has a hero.

Very fun the health and enemy accuracy is very unforgiving but it gets easier once you upgrade your "reduce damage power" and gain more offensive powers.

It also has a nice ending that leaves me waiting for the next one...but it far better than what the recent Prince of Persia did with it's ending...things get resolved.
