You do realize the reason any game *needs* blu ray is that the drives read speed is rather slow. Slow enough that it needs to duplicate the data multiple times to artificially increase read speeds. Based on Bethesda's claim of the drives effective read speed being half that of a dvd drive my guess is that data is duplicated twice (this is speculation). So reasonably a 360 port of the game would be 2 or possibly 3 dual layer discs.

@GIAFGC: It's not about the compressions on the music. It's about the two or three cutscenes in the game that are actually videos and the fact that the surround sound is so awesome and complex and the game actually uses it in both cutscenes and gameplay.

@Mike Newlad: If there were going to be extras in a 360 release, they could just patch them or have payed DLC for the PS3 version. They do have the facilities for this.

id point out that the eye and eyebrow of the ninja are REALLY feminine...

...but id remember pretty quick that this in no way would exclude raiden as a possibility :p

That pic could just as easily be Raiden's son, it either is him or it is Sunny but it isn't Raiden he had blue eyes. Personally I think the main character is another clone of Big Boss or Solid Snake. Possibly the eye patches are because of some accident during a joint mission. W/e it's all speculation really.

Well Kojima pro does have two teams, so in theory they could be developing two games at once.

thats how they did the MG Port Ops, and MGO was sorta done by a separate crew.

I still am not sold on there being a whole new game.

Although Big Boss (guess) looks like he is some where way before MGS4.

It's hard to tell, while at first I thought it was Raiden. It does look like Sunny in an odd sort of way, though I could also see Olga in there, though Sunny is Olga's child after all so that's not a big surprise.

Maybe it's not 1 person, but a mix of a few others. Kojima loves tricky us gamers.

I'm starting to feel like it's just another Metal Gear game... Mostly because I *want* another Metal Gear game. Sure, Kojima said he'd be done with the series after MGS4... but eh, whatever, that's meant so much the last two times.

Despite my fanship for Kojima, I don't feel like he's "god-like" in his abilities, but I do feel that he has talent. Given my opinion of him, I expect the teaser site to be a ruse that gets us to EXPECT another Metal Gear, but when that countdown finally hits the bottom, I think we're going to get something completely new. When you think about it, Kojima can just flash images of familiar faces and get away with it because that's all we've seen him do for some years: work on Metal Gear (even in spite of several claims that he would stop with the series). Maybe this time he was for real, and he's just playing on our expectations right now...

My opinion is this is Raiden in his early stages of adapting to the prosthetic body. I firmly believe this will be the missing chapter talked about in MGS4: the rescue of Sunny by Raiden and Big Mama. Given that Big Boss was alive all this time (despite cybernetic overhauls), it's possible that he'd be in this. Personally, I think the idea of a past/present storyline fits perfectly. The final rise of Outer Heaven in the 80's, possibly tied in with Raiden's child soldier army somehow.

Flash forward to the rescue of Sunny by Raiden from the Patriots, Big Mama providing support.

It works, and you know it.

There are clear letters that fall diagonally with the rain sometimes. I thought it was some sort of graphical error, but come on... it's Kojima... they wouldn't let that slide. They are hard to see, I saw an A and I think an I. It's as if the top of the letter is aimed down at a 45 degree angle to the left, moving with the rain. They flash every so often in different spots on the screen.

I still stand by my original stance, that is NOT Raiden, but is instead Grey Fox and this game is going to be a current Gen remake of Metal Gear 1.

Gray Fox was a test monkey his whole life. This could be a prototype exoskeleton suit would eventually evolve into the technology of both Raiden's MGS4 suit, MGS2 Olga's ninja suit, and Gray Fox's MGS1 exoskeleton/cyborg body.

Which would explain its unfinished state. Its a work in progress, experimental technology first tested on Gray Fox.

To add: With a graphical upgrade like that, who is to say what Ninja Gray Fox would have looked like rendered in the MGS4 engine. The suit would have likely looked more complicated.

I find it funny that they give him a bandana to wear over his bad eye but they let his hideous metal lower jaw exposed.

my guess its Frank Jaeger. the game(s) is gonna be a remake of metal gear 1 AND 2.

You would think that something this big would be announced at a conference. Maybe Raiden is MGS4 on 360 and Big Boss is the MGS5 Prequel on PS3.

Raiden had blue eyes. Also, that isn't raiden's headgear from MGS4. whatever/whoever that is, it isn't MGS4 era Raiden. in MGS4, raiden has a more advanced headgear, complete with a synthetic lower lip. Not to mention, Raiden had both his eyes. maybe the bandanna is for looks? :P

Okay, at the VERY end of Metal Gear Solid 4, Big Boss approaches Solid Snake, (yes THE Big Boss!) with Major Zero like half dead in a wheel chair. After they speak for awhile, Big Boss starts to fall over and mentions that the Shots Drebin gave Snake were actually mutated strains of FOXDIE, designed to kill Big Boss himself, and he dies there- on his own grave. Fuckin' cool.

Here's the quote from the wikipedia Synopsis:

"Yet a very much alive Big Boss prevents Snake from committing suicide. He explains that the body burned in Eastern Europe was of his perfect clone, Solidus Snake and reveals that the Patriots were originally an interpretation of The Boss' will, founded by Big Boss, Major Zero, Eva, Ocelot, Sigint and Paramedic. With increasing power, two rival factions arose within the Patriots' ranks, Zero's who stood for complete control, and Big Boss's, who dreamed of a soldier's world. Eva and Ocelot joined Big Boss in his cause. Over the years, Zero let the newly established AI network assume more and more control, eventually leading to the war economy, a vision far from The Boss' original will. Big Boss puts an end to the last remnant of this false vision by shutting down Zero's life support unit.

Big Boss informs Snake that Drebin's injection included a new strain of FOXDIE, programmed by the Patriot AIs to kill the rival Patriot faction and eradicate the old versions of FOXDIE. why are people thinking this is grey fox in a mg remake....the man didnt become a cyborg ninja until the events after mg2. why in the heck would they design grey to look exactly like raiden...even if its kojima trying to fool us, that is just poor design choice. plus there are already 3 3D model renderings of grey fox in both the mgs1 games as well in portable ops...the man as freaking grey/white hair. Even though the image above does look close to white you can clearly see hints and shades of blond. some people could at least speculate that there is gonna be a new mg universe with familiar faces.

The facial features of the "familiar face" include a higher cheek bone, thin eye brow, brown eyes, similar shaped nose, the lips are prevalent, and the feathered look of the eyebrows all point towards it being a girl. also, the hair matches, in terms of the bangs opening at the same point, and it being grey/brown(/purple?).

After Snake went on to kill Big Boss (again) causing the fall of Zanzibar Land, a clean up crew found his scattered remains blown up on a land mine, which lead to him being made into the Cyborg Ninja. Its just not possible if its a MG remake for him to be a ninja like in the picture

I could tell you Snake dies in the end and that's the story finished, but it doesn't mean I can't then tell you what happens earlier in the story, just as Kojima could go back and fill in the gaps (or make new ones to fill in in subsequent sequels) with games set in the past.
Snake's story does end in MGS4, and they wrap up all the loose ends about the Patriots, Ocelot, Big Boss etc, but they could still go back in time and make a game based on Big Boss, Snake, Ocelot, Gray Fox etc without changing the outcome of MGS4.

Raiden from MGS4 bears the most resemblance. I notice the dark mascara under his eyes, the same face shape, the metal jaw is implemented the same (notice the skin tone line above the metal.), similar hair.

Possibilities may include a genetic replica of Raiden (Sunny's gene's being implemented into clone), Raiden himself, maybe Jack, possibly Grey Fox (tying in with Big Boss in some way), or perhaps an all new character altogether.

I'm excited to find out!

Maybe it's a psych out and this Raiden/Sunny looking picture is part of a transition from a Big Boss pic slow and gradually(very gradually) turning into an orbital frame from ZOE. Just to add a little bit more controversy, if you take Japan's time as the parameter for the timer, this will end on June 2nd at 0600 (if i didn't screwed it up with my poor math).

Now, following this, if you substract the +9 japan is upto GMT time, and then substract 8 more hours (PST time), you'll end up in June 1st at 1600, and i believe microsoft's conference is during the morning, am i right?

If anybody is uncertain about the math, do it again, i was just curious about when it was going to end XD.

This is so obviously a new Metal Gear but based between the events of MGS 2 & 4.

The Snake image earlier is clearly Solid Snake; I challenge you to compare Solid Snakes face in MGS 4 with the one previously posted - why the eye patch? I ain't sure - it definitely isn't Big Boss!

The picture above might be Raiden but definitely isn't Frank Jaeger (a.k.a. Frank the Hunter/ Grey Fox/ Cyborg Ninja/ Null/ Deepthroat).
1)Frank Jaeger's suit was alot alot different; his was an Exoskelton, Raiden's was a complete body (i.e. Skull and spine cut out of original body put into a cyborg machine-suit).
2) The most telling evidence is that the suit, the jaw and the facial scaring is exactly the same as the one in MGS4.

The only difference are the colour of his eyes - they were grey in MGS4... [www.freewebs.com]

Just remember that when Old Snake was about to get his ass kicked by Gekko and Raiden practically saved him, Snake wasn't at all surprised at his new look ... he must have seen it before.

No remakes, I'm certain... flashbacks however, i'd love to see - Raiden's relationship with Solidus Snake, Solid Snakes relationship with Big Boss, Solid Snakes relationship with Grey Fox and Grey Fox's with Big Boss.

MGS4 epilogue that if he was able to survive from being burnt to death in MG2 that he would easily come back from Fox Die.

As for the explaination of him being younger, it could either be more gene testin on the fella or nanomachines

Maybe it is an deaged Big Boss. I wouldn't be shocked if one of his allies found his corpse by his grave, dress it up in a Raiden suit and stuck nanomachines resulting in a third resurrection of Big Boss.

REmember on ppl thought Raiden was dead in mgs 4? What if Raiden really died and the project that gave him the exosuit was also a way to revive the guy?

I mean if the faces are the same and the guy is missin an eye, it could possibly be Big Boss. I understand that my theory is wild but this is Metal Gear, where strange ass storylines are the norm. I also remember that Big Boss saying to Old Snake that he will come back one way or another after he dies from Fox Die.

Its hard not to notice, but I've tried really hard to see if it makes out anything discernable and I really don't think you can tell. Maybe it's just cosmetic, to give the whole thing a digital look.

It kinda seems like whatever it is, is getting easier to spot as these infernal countdowns continue so maybe it'll eventually become something to spot.

Other that that, I predict a prequel that takes place between the events of Metal Gear 2 and Metal Gear Solid. I'd say it's with Grey Fox, even though he lost his right eye... they've changed things around in the past.

I am not going crazy ok...there is some kind of message that appears inside the rain falling from top to bottom of the screen at certain times

but its so hard to catch, anyone had any luck at seeing what it says?

I get the feeling that these countdowns are for more than 1 game. I think it's for 3 separate games.

Yes, Snake has seen Raiden before to some extent. He worked with Otacon on tracking down the Patriots while Raiden went after Sunny, with the aid of Big Mama. They never worked directly with one another, but their goals were on the same path. What their level of interaction is unknown...yet. And that's why I've always felt that MGS 5 would really be MGS 2.5, because there was a big story only told in brief during MGS4.

Heh, Kojima is special in that he's managed to make his game announcement even more convoluted than the plot of his terrible games, of course it's metal gear solid 5, probably with raiden as the star, I mean new character design is obviously something kojima struggles with.

Well, at first I firmly believed it must be Raiden.

Then the face seemed closer to Sunny's.

Then with both the eye color, face shape, and the hair(I didn't know what Grey Fox looked like under his mask, I haven't been able to play the original two Metal Gear games), along with the young age of Big Boss in the earlier image, one would think this must be a prequel...but even then, Big Boss should be about 20 years older than he appeared to be in the same time period as Grey Fox, unless they Retcon it to say he looked that way during Out Heaven, and he didn't get the white hair and bigger beard until later.

You are right, there are letters falling with rain. They spell out Raiden if I'm not mistaken.

Kojima once mentioned in a interview that he would like to create a game with Raiden as a main character OR introduce a "new generation" Raiden. That was before MGS4 was released, however.
