LEGO Indy 2 Revisits The Original Trilogy

Since Kingdom of the Crystal Skull barely had enough content for a movie, Traveller’s Tales is including reworked versions of the original trilogy and a level editor in the newly-announced LEGO Indiana Jones 2.

LEGO Indiana Jones 2: The Adventure Continues isn’t merely a repackaging of the first game with additional content from the fourth Indiana Jones movie. TT Games has gone back and added all new features to the original trilogy, with new objectives and a few entirely new levels, including the classic vehicle chase in Shanghai with Short Round from Temple of Doom. Speaking of vehicles, Indy will have a host of new rides, with planes, boats, and mine carts at his disposal. Even Indy himself is getting an upgrade, with a more functional whip and some new animations to keep things fresh.

On top of all of the new content and the inclusion of a fourth chapter in the form of Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull (great, LEGO LaBeouf), TT Games is also including a level editor, allowing players to create their own LEGO adventures for the very first time.

It sounds like TT and LucasArts are really packing in the new features to make up for having to tread old ground with the original trilogy. The ultimate LEGO Indiana Jones experiences is heading to the Xbox 360, PC, PlayStation 3, Wii, PSP, and Nintendo DS this fall.

@Who wants toast?: Um... he responded to my two paragraph explanation of why all LEGO games are bad, and not just Indiana Jones by saying:

    You're dumb.

So, no, it wasn't uncalled for. What is uncalled for is the ungodly amount of people here worthy of a banhammer. When the day comes, he'll be at the top of my list.

  • Who wants toast?

@MCWHAMMER: That was completely uncalled for. If someone here is a monkey, childish or (dare I say?) poorly made, it most certainly is you.

  • MCWHAMMER

@Jimbotron: Apparently not dumb enough to understand this game (Because is seems to have been programmed by monkeys... your kind right?).

  • Jimbotron

    @MCWHAMMER: You're dumb.

    Jimbotron

  • Jimbotron

@Flankenstein: Not really. It's the second Lego Indiana Jones game.

    @BONERJAM:
I have now bought, and played at least partway through, every major variation of the LEGO/TT games, including every release for GBA, DS, PC, and LSW:CS for Wii. Bar none, the worst game they ever put out was LSW2 for DS, which could very well go down in history as the most disappointing Star Wars game, LEGO game, and DS game ever released. Least interesting was LSW:CS for DS, which was basically just a reduced version of the PC/console versions of LSW1 and LSW2, but adjusted to compensate for the less powerful 3D capabilities of the hardware.

For the PC versions at least, LEGO Batman has one mission that I simply can't complete (Riddler's mind-control power never turns on), and LEGO Indy has one Artifact that I can see in the minecart chase, but I can never tag as I hurtle past. I'm hoping that these problems are specific to my dual-core computer, or at least to the PC platform in general, and that I will not have these problems when I reach those missions on the Wii versions.

For my money, my all-time favorite stock character is Harley Quinn. She's got a ranged attack (which neither Jedi nor Indy have), and that hammer is a nasty weapon for up-close combat (enemies that normally take two hits will go down with one tap from the hammer). Now, the Indy from LSW:CS isn't that bad, since they didn't gimp him by not giving him a gun, but if you build a custom Indy in the character generator you get both gun and whip when you select him in Free Play.

Oh what? damn I already got all the achievements on Lego Indy 1 and now I'll have to go through all of it again!

    @BONERJAM:

I thought the mechanics were better in Lego Indy, but still enjoyed the Star Wars ones more. But I'm a big Star Wars fan.

  • GohanGVO

This really should have been DLC.

From a business perspective, though, this makes sense.

Should I be part of the problem and forward this to my nephew who adores the LEGO series of games?

    GohanGVO

  • JayDiggler

@Kermad: Which is why I buy all of them.

    JayDiggler

  • tnasoundlug

Probably one of the few that liked the KoCS more than other Indie Movies (Last Cruzade is still my favorite)

Then again, I didn't growed up with Indy

  • MCWHAMMER

@plebeianprint: I'm pretty sure (With so many, how can I even remember at this point) Indiana Jones is the only Lego game I've ever owned. And it will be the last. Worst fudging game on my shelf, next to The Great Escape for PS2. So childish and poorly made... has NOTHING to do with the movies.

Save your money, and don't buy LEGO branded games, unless the only goal is to build things with LEGO's, or drive Lego cars.

  • jcb231

I was naive enough to think that the inevitable Crystal Skull game would be stand-alone...either an expansion, DLC, or a budget-priced title. I bought LEGO indy during Circuit City's close-out sale. Dammit, dammit, dammit, dammit, dammit, dammit. I hate when they do this kind of thing.

  • Andrés Felipe Barros

Wait what? no PS2 version?? :(

    Andrés Felipe Barros

  • Batmantis

Can we get Lego Back to the Future already? C'mon dammit.

  • CyricZ

Hooo hum. If I'm committed to the LEGO franchise I should get this and write a FAQ like I did for the others, but man, I'm just not worked up. >_>

    CyricZ

  • plebeianprint

@FlagshipFighter: really? i thought that it was batman, the two star wars, and then indy in last place. indy was pretty glitchy, and often i thought that the solution to the puzzle was not in the player's skill repertoire.

  • Hasseo

Great a rehash of the worst Lego game so far

  • BigBossPETE

THEY BETTER NOT FORGET AGAIN to include the classic "meat-packing" punch sound effects from the movies, or else I WON'T BE BUYING THIS ONE EITHER!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    !!!!!!!!!!!!

    !!!!!!!!

    !!!

    BigBossPETE

  • shadow_judge

Hmmm, yeah, the original LEGO indy game doesn't have dogfight scene from Last Crusade. What a dissapointment.

    shadow_judge

  • cfive3

OMG! LEGO SHAUN CONNERY! You're the minifig now, dog!

    cfive3

  • cfive3

Okay, I love Legos as much as (well, probably more than) the next guy, but these Lego cash-ins are getting kind of ol--- OOH HEY! A LEVEL EDITOR!

    cfive3

  • Jimbotron

@dragonfang18: Lego Transformers, Lego Goonies, Lego Revenge of the Nerds, Lego Pearl Harbour, Lego Gladiator, Lego Lethal Weapon, Lego Die Hard...they can pretty much turn any action/adventure movie into a fun Lego game.

    Jimbotron

  • Jimbotron

@Kermad: Hopefully that doesn't happen, since these Lego games are loads of fun. I will continue to buy any of these style of games. This one sounds like it will be the nest one out them all so far.

    Jimbotron

  • vega480

@DARSFOG: exactly, quit adding a little to the game and releasing them for more money. i will probably get this game, but wait for it to go on sale.

  • Flankenstein

Calling it Lego Indiana Jones 2 is kind of shady

  • sandmanfvrreturns

My wife and I LOVE Lego Indy and beat the hell out of it, but what always made me wonder why they left out parts of the movie. Just make the lego games and do ALL the movie, unless the scenes were really dull or just didn't translate over to the game right. Plus one thing, why in Last Crusade did you FIGHT the fucking knight? WHAT? You should have fought Donovan and Dr. Schneider and then when you "won" they knocked you back, and he took a grail and drank it. Then of course died. I mean, sometimes they take the source material and fuck it up!

I love the level editor, and I hope the online is better in this one.

    sandmanfvrreturns

  • dragonfang18

They are running out of movies to turn into lego games... (sigh) Its only a matter of time berfore a new trilogy that is good. LOTR anyone?

  • Sullyville

    Still waiting for LEGO LOTR.

    Sullyville

  • Who wants toast?

@SuperTongue: And me very, very glad I have traded this game about...3 hours ago.

Might as well get this one as well after the mandatory Lego game pricecut.

  • SuperTongue

    @DARTH_TIGRIS: And me angry that I didn't.

    SuperTongue

  • Pult|Ost - Dark Days Are Coming

I'm glad I didn't play through my Lego Indiana Jones/Kung Fu Panda disc that came with my last xbox then.

  • DARSFOG

Here GL. Here is the Account# to my bank account. I have tried to keep it hidden. I have tried my best... But you keep on taking from me...

on a side note, why not just release this as DLC since most all platforms have some sort of dlc now. This way, A.) i do not have to buy the same game again, and b.) it is cheaper.

    DARSFOG

  • Phaper

Sounds interesting, I enjoyed the first one a lot actually, I'll keep an eye on this.

  • Kazzahdrane

@Xucuroz: It's insane - they added online co-op for Lego Star Wars: The Complete Saga, and then left it out of every subsequent game.

    Madness!

  • FlagshipFighter

@BONERJAM: So do I! I absolutely love LEGO INDY (as an Indy fan)

  • namyr26

@AngryEddy: I didn't feel Lego Batman was as great as the previous two games. It's not that it was bad or anything, but part of the enjoyment that came from the previous ones was seeing familiar scenes played out with added bits of humor.

Batman wasn't following a familiar script like the previous ones, but the gameplay was still good and it had it's own humor. But I just didn't feel the same type of enjoyment I got out of the previous two.

  • Teancum

Level editor == win. How fun will that be?

    Teancum

  • AngryEddy

@BONERJAM: It was, though Lego Batman was better that Lego Indy... Following this logic, Lego Indy 2 should be awesome.

  • AngryEddy

    @TRT-X: You win.

  • mitch_93

Build an advenutre. Good. I will make sure every level is a run from giant boulder but with a different area and different paths. I will call it indiana jones and the boulder quest. Run through 8 landscapes and 32 levels from a boulder! Yeah I should stop about now right?

    mitch_93

  • Kermad

They'll stop making them when you stop buying them

  • Xucuroz

I noticed they aren't adding online co-op as a feature, once again. I think the first Lego Indie Xbox 360/PS3 versions could have really benefited from, which was the main reason i didn't buy it (though the demo was fun).

  • quidsquid

@Twoje: Lego Indy was great, and will most likely be a lot different than this. I'm a sucker for the Lego games, so I will be getting this one as well. Hell, I bought Lego Star Wars 3 times (PS2 for the first game, 360 for original trilogy, then 360 for complete saga)

You could always see if you like the original and then decide if you want to get this one. That might be the best way to go.

  • kablammyman

My gf will be pleased with this news...

  • Kazzahdrane

@BONERJAM: Me too. I'm a huge Indy fan so that probably explains it, but it seemed like the references to the films and the gags in the cutscenes were just much better thought out. Really really enjoyed playing through the whole thing with a good mate who is also an Indy fanatic.

Had been thinking about replaying the first Lego Indy anyway so will happily wait and get this instead later this year :)

  • ncprime

Traveller's Tales is working the teats pretty damn hard.

  • Twoje

I just ordered the Lego Star Wars Complete and Lego Indiana Jones on gamestop's b2g1 deal. Should I cancel the Indiana Jones order? (I did them separately 'cause I ordered 6 games)

    Twoje

  • BONERJAM

I actually thought Lego Indy was alot better than any of the Lego Star Wars games.

    BONERJAM

  • BarbeQueQ

@Chaosrayne: That picture actually reminded me of that one HALO multiplayer mode.

    BarbeQueQ

  • DARTH_TIGRIS

So this makes me glad I waited.

  • TRT-X

Achievement Unlocked: "Nuke The Fridge" 50GS

  • Chaosrayne

Kingdom of the Crystal Skull? More like room of the shiny skeletons.

  • jcb231

    @GohanGVO:

I think yes and no. It makes sense for sellng the game to new players, but I wonder how many folks that bought the initial product will also buy this. You'd have to be a pretty die-hard fan of Crystal Skull, and I don't know how many of those there are.

    jcb231

  • jedbeetle

I guess this is where they put all their resources for the canceled Indiana Jones game?

    jedbeetle

  • Who wants toast?

@MCWHAMMER: Meh, true, you kinda have a point there. But still, most people adore these games, so it kinda stands out that you don't.

That being said, I agree that the Indy game felt too little like the movies, while I didn't have that with Star Wars...dunno why really.

  • lolomfgisuck

I liked the first one, and the addition of a level editor sounds cool... but it's not enough to get me to rebuy a game I already own... nor is it enough to get me to replay stages and stories I've already played through.

The fourth Indy movie looked like crap and I didn't hear anybody tell me otherwise so I'm trying to act as if it doesn't exist.

I think I'll pass on this.
