LinkedIn Profile Refers To Call Of Duty 7
A surprise to absolutely no one, the LinkedIn profile for a senior animator at Treyarch lists Call of Duty 7 as currently in production.
With Activision currently focusing on the next Call of Duty: Modern Warfare game from developer Infinity Ward, we aren’t expecting any sort of official announcement on the next Treyarch version of the game any time soon. Still, it’s pretty much a no-brainer, especially considering the success Call of Duty: World at War and its downloadable content have seen. A LinkedIn profile for Treyarch Senior Animator David Kim indicates that Call of Duty 7 is indeed in the works. He lists the game twice in his profile, once under his summary and again under experience.
Again, not really a surprise. We’ve reached out to Activision for confirmation of the listing, but aren’t expecting much more than a no comment.

Back and forth so I have look forward ever other year? Unless the rumor that Kotaku posted is gold then I would play a Vietnam game. Anything is better then another WW2 shooter.
Interesting.
I remember getting into a long argument here with some people because I had 'dared' referring to World At War as COD 5. They all insisted W@W wasn't technically COD 5.
Wonder what these people are thinking now :)
@Wrecks_: While I disagree with Jellocakes, we have to be objective. Treyarch is ranked higher in that list than IW because IW didn't release any game in 2008. And frankly, Treyarch are building partly on the success of earlier IW titles in terms of Call of Duty games.
@Jellocakes: There's Treyarch in your CoD4:MW and there's IW in CoD:WaW, live with it.
Sainted
Its pretty obvious its going to happen. What they need to work on is the storyline and the characters. CoD:WaWs gameplay was a massive improvement over CoD:3, but the lack of a gripping story and only one really memorable character really let it down imo.
I learned my lesson with World At War. I promised my self I wouldn't buy it, but boredom kicked in. And I am so ashamed of myself. But next time, no matter how bored I get, no matter how many friends buy it, I VOW to never buy another treyarch game.
Rockabully
And people thought calling WaW the 5th game was bad, here they are calling Modern Warfare 2 the sixth when there's no CoD...
NeonLight
@Archaotic: Well, you have to admit, it sounds better than Treyarch's CoD7.
@KillerBee: This statement I can completely agree with. This is the same problem I had with EA for so many years. Hopefully Activision will follow EA's successes of Dead Space and Mirror's Edge (less so) and use the money they make from franchises and put it towards the development of new IPs.
grantanamo
@L___E___T: Whether or not you consider it a 'news source', it is a source of information that is specific. Additionally, a developer that worked on the game is generally considered more of a valid source than 'man in pub'.
@all: Do you think that developers/publishers care if employees publish information like this to the web? Does it violate some sort of non-disclosure agreement.
@Heliophage: I get that side of the argument alright but it can be funny how anal some people get over a simple number.

@SSUK: Oh shi- Sorry, pressed tab to indent... Too used to DTP apps. Anyway, it didn't work, so here's an image representation of what I was saying:
[img99.imageshack.us]
It's like Final Fantasy X-2. It went FFIX -> FFX -> FFX-2 -> FFXI -> FFXII etc. They're still "Call of Duty" only, not part of the main series, if you see what I mean.
SSUK
@Wrecks_: They dropped the title "Call of Duty". If that isn't sign enough...
Plus, you can think of Modern Warfare 2 a sequel to a sequel, thus is not actually another in the normal series line.
(Will probably mess up thanks to variable width font but who cares:)
... CoD3 -> CoD4 -> CoD5 (WaW) -> CoD6 (Vietnam)

No it isn't.

Check out CoDW@W dude. It has another map pack coming next month. So far, Treyarch have supported CoDW@W with double the DLC that IW did (and who knows what else is coming?).

You know what happens when you assume?

@-MasterDex-:
Grand Theft Auto IV wasn't the fourth in the series. That's where the argument stems from, that the absence of numbers suggests that a much larger step forward is later on.
World at War and Modern Warfare 2 would be the Vice City and San Andreas to Call of Duty 4.
In that argument, at least.
@Bubbleman!:
You have no idea what you are talking about.

You are correct that there are few who agree with you.

@reality.exe -console: Altered Beast reference = youre now the coolest person in the world ^____^
@Archaotic: At the fact they're already working on CoD7? Well thats obvious... Its always a 2 year development. One releases one year, while the other works, and the other puts out the next year. Its honestly no surprise.
KaemonKei
@KillerBee: Treyarch has been getting better, W@W was actaully pretty good. I wasn't going to give into it but finally did once I found it for $40. Nazi zombies are pretty fun, mp is basicly the same, the jungle/japan levels/maps are great addition as well as the co-op. I have to say I actually enjoyed the campaign on W@W better than MW, it was longer and had a greater variety of level design, it was a little easier than MW on vet but no big deal. I was once a Treyarch hater but now I have relized they aren't bad but still not as good as IW.
BONERJAM
@chuffhoncho: IF it is Vietnam and IF they do it right, it could be good, but if CoD3 and W@W are any indication, I won't enjoy it near as much as the other entries in the series.
@everyone: I admit that blaming Treyarch was wrong. It is Activision's fault. Treyarch does a good enough job with the time and tasks assigned by the people that pay them to work.
I am just way over WWII as a goto game foundation. If you have to add a zombie mode to your game to make it relevant, you need a new setting.
@Takamofo:
Call of Duty 666: The Hunt for Satan
@Archaotic:
Are we really treating linkedin profiles as news sources now? What's next for a headline - "man in pub mentions Halo 4"..?
I'm looking forward to Call of Duty 7: Losers On Patrol.
@nukee: The funny thing is that me and my friends started noticing this while playing Nazi Zombies (because I didn't play MP right away). Every once in a while me or my friends would be questioning how the zombie is still alive when we had our scope right on it's head. It just didn't make sense. EVERYONE (over 20 people) i've played with have at least at one point got annoyed with this.
And then when I went online and starting fighting Humans, good lord, I was screaming. I know some may contribute to LAG, but come on, I KNOW something is off.
IW just does it better, all I can say.
@Dead Giveaway: I completely agree with you on the gunfight thing. It seemed like no matter how accurate I would get with the M1 Rifle/Carbine, I could never hit the intended target. That and bullet collision detection sucked with the environment. I could clearly see the person down the sights, but the bullet would hit the objects invisible boundary unless I moved further away from it.
nukee
@KillerBee: World at War was great not just ok, bring on the next one Treyarch.
JayDiggler
Treyarch = no buys. After all this time they still can't match up. I'll still be playing MW2 online and will wait for MW3.
@bluem4gic: I certainly would sir. Good day.
thetophatmonster
@KillerBee: Treyarch have done a fine job, I'm so sick of the hate folks give Treyarch just because there not called Infinity Wards.
World at War was a fine game, hell I even play WaW more online then I did with COD4. I prefer the World War 2 settings and so do many others.
@LionheartAce: Yeah, and if they aren't as good as Infinity Ward why do you think they would be successful developing an original IP. They make sales because they do a decent job with a known franchise. A decent job on a new IP doesn't sell multiple millions.
grantanamo
@nukee: I don't think the graphics on WAW are bad, in fact, the reason why I can't get into Treyarchs games have NOTHING to do with the graphics.... it's the gameplay.
Something feels off when playing a Treyarch FPS. But IW's just feels right.
When I play WAW, I always feel like I have a 50/50 chance of coming out of a gunfight alive. But when I play COD4 the chances are much higher because I actually feel like my shots are on point.
It's hard to explain, I guess I just feel that IW's engine is top notch and Treyarch's is a low budget imitation.
Good old Activision dragging the franchise until it's dead. No one asked for yearly updates
Why O Why can't you let IW concentrate on their job.
Maybe if you did that Treyarch could concentrate on the bond franchise and QOS would of been a better game.
You greedy greedy publishers!
Money makes your world go round but it does not make mine.
It will all come back on you when DJ HERO BAND HERO GUITAR HERO AND COD all die because you rather push the same IPs out with a change here and there out instead of trying to innovate your titles
Have you seen the EA business model?
bluem4gic
If they keep selling, they will keep making them guys.
@KillerBee: It was still fun.
Would you rather have a decently entertaining game with a solid variation on multiplayer you already know and love, or nothing?
Sounds like nothing to meee.
@grantanamo: I don't think that's the point of what he's saying. They just need to start developing original games, they really just aren't as good as Infinity Ward.
@KillerBee: Well I hate to be the bearer of bad news but part of the reason why Modern Warfare 2 dropped the COD from its name is because Treyarch is in charge of the COD series now.
IF has their Modern Warfare and Treyarch has COD.
The last metroid is in captivity.

@TRT-X: CoD4: Modern Warfare. CoD5: World at War. CoD6 I guess is MW2, with CoD7 being... i dunno, CoD: Wise Fwom Your Gwave.
@Resident Diesel: I'll take a guess and say it has the words zombie and vietcong in there...
nukee
@-MasterDex-:
Where did you hear this far as I have seen. It is now Modern Warfare 2 for IW new game and COD name has been given to the Treyarch bwoys so countless amercians and british will continue to purchase their game
bluem4gic
I think 'Nam is the next arena to play in...they were clearly seeing how well jungle warfare works in World at War. I didnt hate it, but it was run of the mill.
If IW is Jango Fett, Treyarch is Kamino...cloning something great but devoid of its own personality. Why not? Served the Empire well enough for years.
Yeah...I went full on geek there.
Mal-Content
@chuffhoncho:
Well I loved the nazi zombies and for me they "saved" the game from being played just a few times, how are you going to do that in 'nam?
@Madeira: Yet somehow, Treyarch managed to make World at War look crappier than COD4. I might be of the few that feel this, but the first time I popped in that disc, I was sorely disappointed in the graphics.
nukee
It's no surprise that Treyarch are working on COD7 but watch as fanboys come in and correct Kim on calling it COD7, just the same way as they correct everyone for calling WAW COD5 even though technically, it is the 5th game in the main series.
-MasterDex-
@forsayken:
Of course they are using the same engine why wouldn't they? Same publisher same tech. Would you if you owned a studio make a completely new engine for each new IP you made with the current generation. No I didn't think so
bluem4gic
@KillerBee: Now why would they go and do a stupid thing like stopping for? Hell, who are they even competing with... your perception? Though I didn't buy it, I'm sure they sold enough CoDWaW to fund a new one. Listen to the GiantBombCast latest podcast and you'll here a good argument from Treyarch and a hint to what they might do next.
Wait...there's going to be a CoD 7? Did we even have a CoD 5 or 6?
@KillerBee: Wait, if you hate Treyarch so much why did you bother playing, or buying, WAW? Also, im not sure how its over scripted: it has Kiefer Sutherland for gods sake!!
@reality.exe -console: In fact! Even better, let's have the nazi zombies joined by nazi vampires. And have the soviets be werewolves. US being assisted by alien "Grays", and Europe has Frankenstein monsters.
Yes, that would be a day one buy.
@KillerBee: Treyarch isn't doing it because they think they are making as good of games as IW, but with them switching years, Activision and exploit it all they want on a yearly basis.
I thought 7 was already rumored to be vietnam era and due out next year... from Treyarch keeping with the leapfrog tradition with the reveal that Activision had started licensing tracks from the 60's.
Tyr4nt
@KillerBee: I'll tell you one thing, I will most likely play the game, but I won't be dropping $60 on it Day One like I did with COD3 (which is one of the few 360 games I sold away) or COD:WAW (which is only still around for Nazi Zombie & more achievements to unlock).
The amount of time I put into IW's games is much, much, much larger than Treyarchs, that's for damn sure. Shit, COD4 time alone beats out majority of my games combined.
@KillerBee: W@W was very good, more than worthy entry among the IW CoD games. This whole anti-Treyarch sentiment out there is so overblown, it's silly.
W@W is the same game as CoD4, but with a different setting and weapons. Scripted, linear, respawning enemies, rushing checkpoints... the same.
How about this: Drop the soldiers, focus on nazi zombies entirely. Then, I'll play your game.
@[www.xboxic.com]
-MasterDex-
I haven't bought any of the CoD games and I certainly won't in the future. I like FPS-es, but only with some unnatural twists (Darkness, BioShock). Those shooting soldiers are not for me, but I understand their mass market appeal...
BTW, think about it - if the series still was numerical (like, not CoD: WaW but CoD5 and so on) it would beat Final Fantasy in three years.
@Ackers:
More like Vietcong Nazis more like. Keep them away from your jungle hut!
bluem4gic
Still waiting on COD5 here.
@thetophatmonster:
You mean heavily modified Quake 3 engine :)
And it's a great engine. It runs superbly and has some great graphics.
forsayken
Wouldn't this technically be COD 6 since Modern Warfare is now a standalone series?
nukee
@KillerBee: Yes, stop making absurd amounts of money. Stop making games that top the charts. Are you serious? Just because their games may not be as good as Infinity Ward's doesn't mean they should stop developing.
grantanamo
I would prefer just to have 1 cod game and continously pay for $10 map packs instead of getting a whole new game each year. As soon as a new one is announced, the old one gets no further support in the form of patches. It's really lame and is bad practice; not very loyal to the fans, Activision.
forsayken
COD: WORLD AT WAR II REHASH
bluem4gic
I wonder what it feels like to work at a studio which makes clones of a better studios games.
The morale at Treyarch cant be great or the quality of employees if they are happy with that being the studios only reason for existence. They've proven to be rubbish at anything else when not copying Infinity Ward.

Treyarch, just stop. Please. You will never be able to hang with Infinity Ward.
World at War was ok, but I was bored to tears with yet another overly scripted WW2 shooter. Once you go Modern Warfare you never go back.
The only way I see Treyarch shining is if they drop WW2 altogether and go distant future or something.
*facepalm*
@undefined: I'm with Killerbee. Treyarch sucks. WaW was NOT the same as COD4 in just a different setting with different weapons.
They added tanks which totally throw out any balance the game had by making them painfully difficult to destroy,
they added dogs which for some reason take several bullets to stop (shouldn't one be enough?),
the Japanese always martyrdom or get up and charge you with a sword (cliched and WAY overused, especially in the trench level),
every multiplayer map encourages camping and everyone sniping,
online modes like War suck so bad, nearly every match has to go into overtime regardless of how good ones team is,
Perks suck, I understand most are from COD4, but why add things like "Shades", what a waste of a perk,
cussing is so overused like in KZ2,
levels are very generic except the one level in which you and another Russian officer sneak around and snipe and try to escape.
wow most of you guys are LAME. The two games use the same engine. Most of you guys are just tired of ww2 games. yes they are over done but f or the most part the games play the same. I even thought it looked better than MW. maybe they just used a little more color. Remember this is back in the 40s no laser sights yet.
pridex
@TRT-X: Nope. Treyarch's next CoD will surely be Call of Duty 10. Or 11. Really, that whole concept of counting properly is overrated.
@KillerBee:
You know, you really need to take your complaint to Activision. If you don't want Treyarch to make CoD games, tell Activision to only release one every two years and leave it in Infinity Ward's hands. Basically, don't blame Treyarch for doing what their employers ask them to do.
I think they proved with World at War that given a decent ammount of time for developement (instead of being rushed like they were for Call of Duty 3) they can produce a quality game. But I would like to see them leave World War 2 as Infinity Ward has done so successfully. But that doesn't mean I think they have to copy Modern Combat exactly either. They could go to Vietnam, or Desert Storm, or maybe even do a fictional war set in an alternate world history, or a try a sci fi take on Call of Duty. Whatever they decide to do, I hope Activision will continue to give them the time they need to develope a quality title as they did with World at War.
@Kaged-Animal: I bet you only played W@W intentionally looking for flaws to justify your IW fanboyism.
I play IW's and Treyarch's CoD games to have fun. I am a Call of Duty fanboy and I have no shame in that.
@Dead Giveaway: Because IW implemented a lock on? All you do is hit the aim button and it snaps onto the target ahead of you.
StevenRafael
@nukee: You aren't alone. My buddies and I agree on the step backwards in graphics.
StevenRafael
@KillerBee: Yes, because there aren't enough shooters about the future.
hewkii9
@forsayken: very good idea., thatd be nice, instead of a cod every year...
@KillerBee:
Treyarch bashers, do you really need to declare your undying love for IW by denying everybody else a solid COD game every other year? Nobody is making you buy it.
If you wanna wait two years for new COD, be my guest. Millions of people appreciate and enjoy the W@W experience.
Fengato
@bluem4gic: For some reason I thought it was the exact opposite. I thought Infnity Ward was upset at the way Treyarch was handling the CoD property, and were about to leave Activision until they said Infinity Ward would be the exclusive CoD developer.
[www.computerandvideogames.com]
whoa, David Kim is in deep trouble.

I've seen enough WWII for my life time. We've been stuck in that era for too long. I'd like to see some really excellent Vietnam games start to come out. I'm ready to move on.
I'd buy a Vietnam game for sure, assuming it was of similar quality as the last two COD entries. I didn't buy the last one on account of fighting the Axis for about a decade now, and I'm sick of WW2, but 'Nam is largely unexplored with quality titles on the consoles. Bring it on.
@Wrecks_:
Okay we get it. You're in bed with Treyarch. You can stop linking to that site now.
It's not that hard to sell a million copies when you're riding on the coattails of a much better developer. Most gamers don't even know what a developer is and buy games solely on the name printed on the box.
Treyarch's success is due to the same reason those shitty -insert newest popular movie name- games sell so well.
@n00b_pwner:
So you're saying one type of fanboyism is better than another? That's retarded.
@Sainted:
Treyarch had nothing to do with CoD4.
Unless I'm mistaken (and if so, I expect proof instead of only a bitchy response), IW does the grunt work of developing amazing engines and making awesome games, and Treyarch just builds mods using that engine and that awesome game as a model.
@bluem4gic: What do Americans and British people have to do with Call of Duty? You do realize that IW is an American developer right? Probably was just a snarky way to talk shit about Americans. Good job.
MadExponent
@Numanoid:
Keep waitin.
The Rule of Video Game Franchise Numbering decrees that around the 4th or 5th game in the franchise subtitles will forever replace numbers.
For example, Tomb Raider: Chronicles = Tomb Raider 5, Tomb Raider: The Angle of Darkness = Tomb Raider 6, Tomb Raider: Legend = Tomb Raider 7, and Tomb Raider: Underworld is in reality Tomb Raider 8.
Additional refs: Tony Hawk, Guitar Hero, Need For Speed, Silent Hill.
For all the Treyarch hate, a lot of people bought WaW. Seriously, if you hate Treyarch so much don't buy their fucking games and convince other, less informed, gamers to do so as well.
As pissed off as a lot of us are for Activision tricking us into buying that piece of shit CoD3, we're coming up on CoD6, so I think it's time to let it go and judge Treyarch on a game-by-game basis.
Treyarch, just drop the shits off and leave COD series alone. Make your own original title, not being a zombie sucking other studio's franchise.
shadow_judge
@StevenRafael:
No, its because W@W has an old outdated engine for its game. CoD4 had a far more advanced engine that allows for bullet penetration through objects, while treyarch games don't. If a person is behind a leaf or a box or a stick in W@W the bullet is stopped. In CoD4, you can shoot thorough most anything.
SammyLiimex
@Wrecks_:
This is a general consensus among hardcore gamers. Almost everyone I know who considers themselves a big gamer, and who played CoD4 and 5, says pretty much everything about 4 was better. Except zombie mode. :)

I enjoyed it very much.
and I completely agree, COD 3 was possibly one of the most lifeless games I've ever played. I didn't buy COD 5 but i have played nazi zombies which is insanely addictive so i will give them that one.
Still doesn't compare to cod 2 and cod 4

Call of Duty:Irish Warfare. You play as the SAS driving round 1980's Northern Ireland in a crappy Ford Sierra carrying out hits on the IRA.
