Marvel: Marvel Vs. Capcom 2 Slated For June Release
In its financial report, comic book giant Marvel dated the re-release of classic fighter Marvel vs. Capcom 2. That date is June 29.
And that date is, if you check your calendars, a Monday. Marvel does note “scheduled release dates are subject to change” in its report, so that means just that: this release date is subject to change.
The original, and this latest version, features brawlers from the Capcom and Marvel universes. It also features 3 on 3 tag-team matches and four button controls. All 56 characters are accessible from the get go.
The re-release boasts an optional visual filter that smooths out the game’s graphics and new online modes, including Ranked Matches and the Quarter matches found in Super Street Fighter II Turbo HD Remix, which allows up to four people to watch and chat while two others fight. It also features widescreen support with the gameplay in a 4:3 field, but the viewing area expanded.
Capcom previously announced that the game will be out this summer on the PSN for US $US15 and on Xbox LIVE Arcade for 1,200 Microsoft Points. The game was developed by Foundation 9 and is based on the Dreamcast code.

I thought capcom said Q4 this year? This is too good to believe :x
@lifeinthefridge: Not really. A always figured a HAPP joystick was better for playing Marvel.
That's my birthday. What a MARVELOUS present, Capcom!

@Kuren: eh?
june 29th is my b-day too. yay cancers!!!
did anyone notice how the y only mention XBLA at the start of this entry, "With Comic-Con following in July, it would make sense for the game to hit XBLA before then."
I see what you did there kotaku.....
OMG! June 29th is my birthday!
Loving the coincidence, though I hope the date doesnt change :(

@SmilingPolitely: Yes, but why did they do it in the first place?
I have a hard time believing that when they were designing the original, someone listened to "Take You For a Ride" and said, "oh yeah, people will love this!"
Granted, it is funny and it does have its charm. But I'm not sure they meant it that way.
Zorantor
@mobetta: Correct me if I'm wrong, but I'm under the impression that the game will actually display in HD, even though the character sprites aren't optimized for it.
Zorantor
@Trey: Servbot is the best character in the game. I hope they toned him down, since he was so broken before.
Zorantor
@Defeater: I was going to write a proper reply to this post but then the Internet threw up on it. Ew.
Zorantor
@Trey: Scrubs meaning...what, people that play for fun, with characters they like, instead of playing the most competitively powerful characters? Fuck you, I'll proudly be a scrub rather than a Stop Having Fun You Guys guy.
definitely my favorite iteration of street fighter, glad to see i can play with wolverine, ryu and akuma once more
Seriously I wish this came out like... May 29th instead.
@MDX:

@Tyber_Zann: You don't see what all the fuss is about? Wah? This game is the epitome of fanfiction crossed with the truest expression of fanservice rendered in eye-meltingly colourful technicolor. If you've ever read a Marvel comic and liked it or if you've ever played a Capcom fighting game and found it ever so mildly amusing, this game is the pixely wetdream your mind would cobble together. Trust me.

@guymanbro: It's like in the first Spiderman movie where Aunt May thinks Peter is jacking off in his room and she tries to seek a peek but he isn't, he's just practising shooting sticky white goo all over his room by flick his wrists.
kiddoblivion
I maybe wanted this just a little..maybe only to hold me over. Now it's 1 day before BlazBlue, so no thanks.
cool...mines on june 29th as well.
@benihime:
Over 9000 or can i has cheezburger.
@lifeinthefridge: When will Microsoft let X-Arcade make an adaptor for the TankStick? They have adaptors for every other system! I already have one massive 2-player arcade controller, and I don't want another one taking up space.
@Ueziel: You forgot the part where the game is upwards of $100 for a used Xbox or PS2 copy.
It's bullshit how they clumped 3 fighting games into one damn week or something. Blazblue, KOF12, and now MvC2. My wallet will get raped.
Sonjool
@zios33: Lucky break. I heard the DC copies go for quite a bit. I have the original and this on DC in my basement.
Along with Rez on PS2. Wonder how much those are worth...
@aNiMeMaN14: While I love this game and will surely buy it, I'm kinda mad they are unlocking all the characters from the get-go (and not rebalancing them). Part of the appeal (to me) of fighting games is to play through multiple times, learning strategies for each character and unlocking new ones to expand your options.
I spent hours and hours on this game back on the DC to unlock every character and color option. I understand that the argument is likely something along the lines of "online play would be unbalanced if characters weren't unlocked for everyone" but to me, instead of a deterrent, that makes it even more of an incentive to play the game: to get better at the online portion!
I think it's sad because they are basically just releasing this game for multiplayer and tournament purposes versus people who just want a great 2D fighter to have on hand for local play and even single player. There is literally no reason to play any form of single player now, which is a great way for players to hone their skills and make them more competitive.
This game is coming out one day before BlazBlue and one week before KOF XII.
Bad timing, to say the least. Looks like a pass for me.

Wonder when the new sticks are coming out?

I don't like the "expanding the viewing area" concept.
The game was not designed to push the camera beyond the initial 4:3, and as such the levels are very much imcomplete beyond the original viewing area. I hope they have an option to disable this. I would much rather just have an art pillarbox border.
@MDX:
FFFFFUUUUUUUUUUUUU-
@branny:
And the new KOF a week later. Let's just release EVERY 2D fighter at the same time, great idea.
Danved
(this is the only time I'll swear on this website)
FUCK YOU CAPCOM. seriously; 1 day before Blazeblue comes out?!!
[calms down]
ok..So I just have to wait much longer for online matches. Ugh..at the same time I am excited in some masochistic way about playing online MvC2 (yet not excited to purchase the game for a 4th time), I was really looking forward to seeing some new run off from SF4 and seeing some new people giving GG's successor. But whatever, you MvC2 fans will be happy.
Whatever....
Zeidust
Am I the only disappointed that all of the characters are unlocked from the get-go? Kinda kills the single player experience imo.
