Namco Bandai Editors Day Round-Up

Namco Bandai Editors Day kicked off with the announcement of both Soulcalibur and Tekken games for the PSP – and it was all pretty much gravy from there.

It was kind of a bummer not to see any Tales games whatsoever – not even screens of Vesperia for the PS3. But last year, Tales games practically dominated the show floor alongside Souldcalibur IV, so it’s only fair to give other games the spotlight. Especially when some of them just look so pretty.

Check out what we got to see:

  • D Mitsuki : Gotta have guts kid!

    @Akisazame:
"So sir, the series is fairly popular, and this is a very popular itteration among our Japanese fans, should we translate it and bring it to the waste?"

    "SHH DO YOU HEAR TAHT?"

    "Hear what sir?"

"The gods, it's them saying that if we do that we will profit, and if we profit, misfortune will befall our great company!"

    "..."

"Just localize another Naruto game and begone!"

    "...Yes sir."

  • Akisazame

No mention of Tales games, huh?

I'm not very optimistic about Tales of Vesperia for the PS3 or for Tales of Hearts. This reminds me of what happened with Tales of Innocence. They said nothing for a long time after it came out, and then finally they just said they had no plans to localize it.

As much flack as people give Square Enix when it comes to RPGs, at least they're predictable when it comes to localization and seem to follow some sort of logic for releasing games outside of Japan. Namco Bandai? When it comes to localizing RPGs, the first thing they do is throw logic out the window.

@tigresa: You know, you can take pride in your work and still make frickin' typos.

  • DarthMetalHope

awww man i would love either one of those Tekken 6 pieces of swag. i wants :D

  • RedRaptor

    Needs more Ace Combat 7.

  • Trygle12 is procrastinating. He

@CosmicElement: I was most surprised when I first saw that channel. It is strangely interesting.

  • 1up

@CosmicElement: Yeah but the Wii spin off wasn't even a fighter, if I recall. It was just that, a spin-off. Hopefully, Soul Calibur will do the same thing that Tekken did and a be a straight up Soul Calibur game made especially for the PSP.

  • Solertia

Just bring me a new Tales game and Naruto: Ultimate Ninja Storm 2. I'm beggin' ya, NB...

  • terebi

Need PS3 Vesperia and Tales of the World 2... forget Naruto, maaan.

    terebi

  • Xenigma

@Sebnotic: The Food Network rocks. No idea what that bag has to do with anything, but I want one.

  • KichiGuy

What they really need is heihachi hairpieces. I would totally rock one of those. Also, a Taki outfit for my gf, or for me, if I'm feeling fancy.

  • CosmicElement

@1up: I have high hopes for Tekken; it was absolutely brilliant the last time it hit PSP.

I'm not too sure about Soulcalibur for PSP though, didn't the Wii spin-off suck dank?

    CosmicElement

  • CosmicElement

@Trygle12 is procrastinating. He should probably get to work...: The Food Network is oddly... interesting.

    CosmicElement

  • tigresa

@CmdrBladeHearts is replacing his perfectly good screen name...: Even though all the posts here are composed of a single paragraph, you'd think the authors (who get paid to do this) would at least look over their... one para.

  • NeoTurbo

@Sebnotic: Yeah, I was wondering that too. Could Namco/bandai be in cahoots with the food network? Maybe thats where the Tales of series gets all they're recipes from! =o

    NeoTurbo

  • CmdrBladeHearts is replacing his

@tigresa: I noticed too, but I think Munchables isn't exactly a word either.

  • Sebnotic

What's with the food network bag?

    Sebnotic

  • NeoTurbo

The face plate is pretty nice actually. Same with the print. Shirt's ok too, doesn't scream "LOOK I LOVE NARUTO!!!". Just a nice shirt that if your a fan you'll go "Cool a Naruto shirt", if not you'll just notice a nice shirt. those are my preffered nerd-ware.

    NeoTurbo

  • tigresa

The Muchables, huh? Why doesn't a single Kotaku writer take any pride in their work... =_= Spell-checking is harder than I thought.

  • 1up

Great news with Tekken and Soul Calibur games on the PSP. I just hope they're good. Also the Klonoa challenge mode looks like good, difficult fun. Good stuff!

  • Trygle12 is procrastinating. He

    OH SNAP! FOOD NETWORK!

  • kwkws

    ehh naruto

  • Karisu-Zero

That Tekken 6 Faceplace looks ELITE-able. I wonder if they're going to do another pre-order the game, get a skin (PS3) or faceplate (360) thing like they did with Soul Calibur IV.

  • tokugawa

@Akisazame: Indeed, especially considering among the un-localized Tales games are both the most serious (Tales of Rebirth) as well as (at least in my opinion) the best (Tales of Destiny remake, Tales of Hearts).

  • Akisazame

@tokugawa: I played Rebirth (using many, many translation faqs) and really enjoyed it, so I definitely agree. It made Symphonia's attempt at using racism as a major plot point seem childish in comparison.

The thing that really pisses me off about Namco Bandai not releasing the DS Tales games outside of Japan is that there's actually a viable market there! The DS doesn't have any overbearingly strong competing RPG titles as not even S-E puts their biggest blockbusters on the platform. There's a huge opportunity there and Bamco just ignores it. Yet they'll release Tales of the Abyss two weeks before FFXII and release Tales of Vesperia with inadequate advertising. Earth logic, they do not use it D:
