Nintendo World Store Punch Out!!! Party Dishes Doc’s Remedy Bars

The Nintendo World Store hosted a pre-launch Punch Out!!! party in New York this weekend, handing out free t-shirts, candy bars and one title.

Reader TheMissing sent in this pic from the party showing off the free t-shirt he snagged and the Doc’s Remedy chocolate bar that was given out with a purchase of the game.

Nintendo sent out a clutch of photos showing all of the folks who arrived at the store to try and nab the title of World Video Boxing Association champion. Cyr F. of Jersey City took home the trophy.

    @D-K, has mastered the dim-mak candlepunch: NO! I'm so tall that like if you were tall you'd be like OMG that guy is so tall

    @D-K, has mastered the dim-mak candlepunch: I agree. *backs away slowly*

    That was a good read actually! lol

    @Sooku: Nah, that's just his cousin from the amateur boxing leagues, Rotor Mazda. Watch out for his Cycle Uppercut!

    Kind of unfair letting Piston Honda into the competition, isn't it? I mean, he's a professional.

    Well, i've only seen the eps. not the manga's, therefore my opinion is only directed at the eps.

    It's just that ippo did the "sway from side to side" a lot [forgot technique name] and it's all punches in bunches.. grappler baki, while it's art-style certainly is appaling, i find the "DAAAAYUM" factor in it much more appealing.

    @Ueziel: I said Baki is less derivative... less. I'd like to go out on a limb here and compare 2 other fighting franchises;

    DBZ, Naruto. Both of them tend to stretch fights. While Naruto sometimes throws in 5 minute flashbacks or sentimental epiphany's, DBZ sometimes took 30 episodes for a fight. It was god-awful. Both stretch fights, just one franchise does more so than the other.

  • Ueziel

    @D-K, Big fluffy mushroom spungyness: You just called Ippo derivative while implying that Baki is not. Wow.

    Ippo is better in literally LITERALLY every way.

    This store is not all it is cracked up to be. It's crowded, full of kids running around and running into your knees, and had one too many European tourists. I thought this was a place where one could find hard to find Nintendo games, but alas such was not the case as all the games they carry can be had at any other game retailer.

    @D-K, Big fluffy mushroom spungyness: Are you implying that UFC is better than boxing? Cause that's been done to death in the other thread...

    I read Baki too... ;)

    @D-K, Big fluffy mushroom spungyness:

    I read some of Baki, the art style was wayyy too ugly for my tastes. I recognize that he has artistic talent, but it was way too abstract for my tastes. Personally, for a more brutal fighter manga I read Shamo. It's about this kid who kills his parents because they pressure him too much and he ends up learning this crazy prison MMA fighting style. The story is good and the art is top notch!

    @Esper mind tricks: It didn't make a sound until after it connected. He's a... LIGHTNING GOD!!!!!

    The candy probably comes with advice inside like "Join the Nintendo Fan Club today, Mac!"

  • Hellicus

    That shirt is made of awesome.

  • Hellicus

    @randomrawr: I don't get it.

  • D-K, has mastered the dim-mak ca

    @ippo fans: You people should also watch grappler baki... It is less derivative and more brutal.

  • D-K, has mastered the dim-mak ca

    @excel_excel: AAAAAAAAAAAAlrighty then,

    The ratio has shifted, the culmination of a fast-grab dog-eat-dog market strategy has opened pandora's box. As the hording masse gungho's it's way to local game retailers and e-shops alike, statistics get distorted and new marketing approaches are forced upon competitors to stay afloat. By alienating it's core audience in favor of sheer numbers, we're on the verge of a demographic shift. After this sudden infatuation is inevitably followed up by the latest craze, the market finds itself once again niche. The awesome pillars of the mindless horde consists of disposable income, the casual gamer being the industry's disposable income. Invariable fluctuation will, without warning, terminate the current ideaology. It'll all come crashing down once the fad, de-fad's.

    Thoughts?

  • Brackynews

    @smirnoffski: The Nintendo Store occasionally has early exclusives for hardware colours and bundles and such; and recall it was the only place in the country that had a guaranteed Wii stockpile.

    As for Punch Out, I look forward to getting it when the price approaches a more reasonable $40.

  • arstal

    @Legendary Hoamaru: Ippo doessn't really have stretched out fights- then again Ippo has never gone the distance- longest fights were 7 and 8 rounds.

    The two 10 round fights in the manga were clipped in the anime to save on time (and in the manga too- referring to Date/Martinez and Vorg/Sendo). Not spoiling other 10 round matches- though they don't involve main characters.

    Funny thing is Dudley is one walking Ippo Parody- Only thing that isn't from Ippo to me is his Uppercut. They so should have made his DP the Frog Punch.

    @Lapoisse:

    Ricardo Martinez would be an awesome end boss to this game. Too bad it won't happen.

  • Legendary Hoamaru

    @D-K, has mastered the dim-mak candlepunch: Most anime fights in long series are highly stretched compared to the manga. Keeps it from catching up to the manga chapters so fast I suppose.

    Compare Dragon Ball Kai to Dragon Ball Z. DBKai is only suppose to be 100 eps for the entire Z manga series instead of the 300+ Z anime was.

  • excaliburps

    Is there anybody man enough in Kotaku tower to taste and review the candy bar? Or is it just a Snickers with a Nintendo wrapping?

    The shirt does look amazing though. Methinks it'll be part of some new Kotaku contest? (I'm assuming you got a couple of those from Ninty...)

  • def PD

    @smirnoffski: I feel ya. It was my first time there and quite frankly I was underwhelmed (but overwhelmed with the amount of Pokemon stuff they had).

  • def PD

    I was there yesterday but got there a little too late to enter the tourney. Had no intention on picking up a copy of the game until my friend did and saw that he got a shirt and Remedy chocolate bar.

    I'm up to Bald Bull as we speak.

  • Omnimon

    Is it just me or did they give Lil Mac a package?

  • jebus2477

    @def PD: I did the same thing. Got there too late for the tourney. Except I was gonna get a copy of the game either way I sliced it. I am also up to Bald Bull on my second run through.
    Gah he's hard!

    It's a nice change of pace to sometimes just stop and asses the current situation. If carefully refleced it'll tell you the direction of the marketleaders and the direction of the industry itself. Knowledge is often up for grabs.. you just have to grab it.
