PC Sales Charts: Fallout Makes A Comeback
And no, I’m not talking about Fallout 3. I’m talking about Interplay’s Fallout Trilogy pack, which includes Fallout, Fallout 2 and Fallout Tactics, an oldie-but-goodie bundle which made the NPD charts!
Joining it on the retail charts were Demigod, Left 4 Dead and Empire: Total War. The Steam and Direct2Drive charts, meanwhile, are a little nuttier, the Steam ones topped by Killing Floor, D2D by Mount & Blade.

Just wait until next moth, once Sims 3 comes out you won't see anything else on that chart
@deanbmmv:
Killing floor has been on sale.
ReconToaster.
@Sigh1515: If it's the one with FO, FO2 and FO:Tactics the it's £5 in the UK, with GAME offering it as part of a get 3 for £10 deal. I borrowed it off my friend but FO and FO2 crashed so much (even with the latest patch I could find) that I haven't bought it myself yet, though probably will for nostalgia alone.

@MrMister: Awesome. I played Fallout briefly, and got through a good chunk of Fallout 2, but never finished them. Now would be a good time to pick them up. Also because my laptop can't handle TF2 ;_;
@Goldwings: Has no idea why his avatar is a smiling sun:
Fallout 2 > Fallout 3 in terms of the actual story and setting. Gameplay is also unique enough.
Fallout 3 wins out in presentation for... obvious reasons...
all things said though Fallout 2 has much more charm in the little things, as well as better characters and a better setting. Also it does the main bits of Fallout better and is more open ended. It IS hard to get into 2 if you play three first due the gameplay, though 3 has a slightly bitter taste by the end if youve played 2.
I'd like a remake but the only company I could actually see doing it right now would be Bioware... who wont due to not having any connection to it other than franchises with similar degrees of awesomnessifcation.

I see I wasn't the only one to take advantage of D2D's Mount & Blade sale. So far, I'm not super impressed, though the mod community is pretty happening.

@Phantom6612:
That's strange to hear; the most common complaint about the original fallout series from people trying it nowadays is that the combat is boring/time consuming.
Do yourself a favour and get enough science skill simply to hack into the computers at some of the facilities you visit: You won't be hurting for skill points in the original since it doesn't penalise you for going over 100% skill (it's easy to get 300% in a tagged weapon skill which lets you hit eyes from ridiculous ranges) and you'll be able to read a lot of really interesting backstory on the Supermutants.

@acidcrownie needs to learn how to use Photoshop.: Thanks for the link. I'd buy it from there but I don't want to have to keep track of another digital distro site. I prefer to have all my digital games in one spot.
I don't mind hard copies either. Sometimes I don't always want to dig out my discs for something like Unreal 2K4 (OH GOD 6 DISCS) because I usually mix them up in the countless spindles laying about my house. :P
But I decided to pick up KF - currently preloading now. I'm sure it'll be awesome as you guys make it out to be. Plus I'm a major achievement whore (20K on XBL finally! WHOO!). >_>;
Violent St. Cannon
Too bad I couldn't scrounge up the money to pay for the games while the GOG sale was going on. :(
Plants vs. Zombies FTW. So much delicious bang for the very few bucks. Popcap's greatest by far.
@Zefir:
I can't say I hate Fallout 3. Though, I really haven't been able to get into it. If I fail to become interested with a third attempt to play the game, I may be with you.
I did like Oblivion. I felt it was a fun experience.
@Spoony Bard:
Definitely did that for me.
Fallout 3 didn't really impress me--though I may have to try getting into again--I preferred Oblivion. But, it did get me interested in seeing what the original game was like.
I've gone through it a bit. Not too bad of a game. Actually like the combat better than in Fallout 3. So far it may not be one of my favorites--we'll see when I get further into it--but I can say it is a very well made game.
@Zefir: Yeah it's super repetitive but still fun.

@acidcrownie needs to learn how to use Photoshop.: It's not a direct link because I'm campaigning for a more active internet. Think of all the extra exercise you get by either typing the website's address or copy/pasting it!!!
Yeah..... we'll go with that. >.>
@Violent St. Cannon: You probably know about this and are just expressing a desire to see the original games integrated into steam. BUT!!! For the off-chance that you haven't........

@K1NG EV1L: Well, the Director's Cut is what they called the PC version. Basically it adds 3 or 4 new mission that you can do instead of those that were in the console version so you have more variety in your repetition.
This might sound negative, but I loved the game. Just stating things as they are.
@Violent St. Cannon: The DLC is great. The ammo press in the Pitt is a neat feature. I like that each DLC rewards you with some cool loot.
UsernameOfTheDead
@Zefir: Ehh it's not for everyone and that's fine. I love getting lost in open world games. :)
And I've had Morrowind for years, having yet to make a dent in it but I'm halfway though Oblivion. :P
Violent St. Cannon
Maybe it's just selective/nonexistant memory, but the charts lately seem a LOT less soul-crushing than usual, especially from last year.
@UsernameOfTheDead: I'm starting to think that I'm one of the very few people that just hate Fallout 3. Then again, I hated Morrowind and Oblivion too. Just not my types of games, I suppose.
@Luke Plunkett: You think? I only played the demo and it seemed to get repetitive, but not so much that I was completely put off.
@ShineyBlueShoes: Looks like I'm grabbing this tomorrow at my BB :)
Violent St. Cannon
@K1NG EV1L: Yep. Been out for awhile now I think. Just rooftop races and assassination challenges.
Violent St. Cannon
Yeah these developers better enjoy their rankings while it lasts. Only a few more weeks till the Sims wrecks em again
hoboninjapirate
Wait, there is an assassin's creed directors cut?
K1NG EV1L
@Sigh1515: $20.00
Have at it.
MrMister
@deanbmmv: PvZ is fucking amazing.
@Sigh1515: I saw it the other day for $20, not a bad deal.
@UsernameOfTheDead:
Not sure if best game ever, but at the LEAST its my favorite game of this gen easily.
Neon
Go killing floor! make a killing, har har
@UsernameOfTheDead: Playing it right now. :) Getting out of The Pitt was a pain. Got some sick stuff from it though.
Violent St. Cannon
Helps that the three pack is finally available at Best Buy and I'm sure other places since it was only an import thing from places like GoGamer for a long time.
ShineyBlueShoes
Fallout 3 is the best game ever made.
UsernameOfTheDead
It's good that Fallout 3 has whetted people's appetites for the original, awesome games.
I might check out Killing Floor. Saw in another article that people said it was a good mod from the Unreal 2K4 days.
Also was going to get Defense Grid but I chose Universe at War instead. Not a bad game for $5 but I had one bitch of a time getting it to work on Vista. Get the official patch from the Petroglyph site and you're good.
I really wish the older Fallouts were on Steam though.
Violent St. Cannon
I guess I'll purchase that to experience my first Fallout game(s), instead of Fallout 3. I'm sorry but I can't see myself buying a $70 (I think it's lowered now, not sure) game just yet.
What was last weekends Steam Sale? cos that chart look's kinda normal for a change.
Oh n is Plants vs Zombies seeing a XBL/PSN release? the demo was pretty good, but I'd like to play it in HD. Peggle was free with Orange Box I didn't mind then, but why can't popcap go above 800*600?
Considering the price tag on the Fallout Trilogy coming in 7th isn't half bad.
How much is the Fallout trilogy selling for nowadays?
@UsernameOfTheDead: Fallout 1&2 are better than Fallout 3.
Piata
would the fallout games acctully work nowadays? speccially tactics couse i rember it not working back then ether...
@deanbmmv:
Popcap
@salaminizer:
Vector Graphics?
Scale all the way to infinity*infinity. All flash games use Vector Graphics so if flash games can do it why can't Peggle?
@Sigh1515: You can get all 3 games at GoG.com for $5.99 each.
syafiqjabar
@Neon: Same here.
syafiqjabar
@Zefir: That's weird, because a lot who hated Fallout 3 or Oblivion loves Morrowind instead.
syafiqjabar
@SaanZ: Make sure you patch Fallout 2 first if it isn't already. The game has some serious bugs as is (Fallout 3 continues this tradition apparently).
Even after that, get the unofficial patch, the restoration project and (if necessary) the widescreen patch (mostly from No Mutants Allowed). These will improve the game greatly.
syafiqjabar
@UsernameOfTheDead: Fallout 3 rocks. I tried to play the original right before trying Fallout 3, but after 30 minutes of pointing and clicking on little pixelated rats I stopped.
It seemed tedious, but then again I never play RPGs and I almost only play action-packed console games, hence my bizzare love of Fallout 3.
Old graphics are hard for me to look at unless I'm nostalgic for something. I couldn't get nostalgic for a game I've never played, but I would love to see a remake. Hopefully as a download, maybe even on XBLA or hell, even WiiWare.
Not bad for a game that's been on gog.com for a while, and even were handed out for free with some british gaming magazine som years back. Now all we need is a little x-com and good games will rule the world again!
EnochRodeo
@deanbmmv: because they have to redo all the graphics and they don't think it is worth it?
salaminizer
@Piata: This, without a doubt. I hated Fallout 3 as well, despite really WANTING to like it. I seriousily tried to the point that I actually beat it, but it just wasn't a good game in my opinion.
WoW still collecting souls i see ;)
