I'll be picking up the ps3 version myself...I can't fathom the notion of playing FFXIII on 5-6 discs on my 360.

I was a doubter at first, but PS3 is sustaining strong sales and doing really well. Sony has a long way to go to catch up, but kudos to them for taking the top spot with an excellent lineup of software pushing PS3 sales!

Wish the Ps3 could gain some steam in the US. In my opinion, coupled with an absolutely amazing 1st party retail and PSN outing, they also have the third party support. I don't care if the numbers show people buying PS3s, this is the year of PS3 title dominance in terms of substance.

a) it's an american console (loyalty to Japan I guess?)
b) Japanese are all about quality and reliability in their electronic products. Reliability was one of the main reason as to I think why 35% (recent article posted here) of Japanese gamers will not pick up a 360.

@Shin-san: This is a small victory for Sony in Japan. FFXIII will be on both the PS3 & 360 when it's realeased to us gaijins. Probably more copies of the game will be sold on the 360 when it's realsed worldwide.

@Sebnotic: Dragon Quest X is exclusive to the Wii and will probably come out next year. The game was announced back in early December 2008.

this trend will continue until Nintendo starts releasing more high-quality titles. although if Sony drops the price of the PS3, as many believe they will- then i think this may be the shift in sales power that Sony has been promising for the past 2 years.
honestly, i wish the 360 would do better in Japan, though: Microsoft's Japanese market is pampered with awesome games that have no chance of seeing release in any western country :(

Crazy huh Sony. Good games are helping you sell your console. Just keep it up and maybe exclusives may come however exclusives are slowly becoming the thing of the past aside from first part developed games.
As for the Wii, time is just showing that despite it's very impressive numbers of unit sold it's gimmick 'aint going to help it in the long run. People can only play so much PS2 remakes and mini game compilation.
I only hold on to mine waiting for the next zelda game or the next good wii game.

I see it being a system seller for the PS3. It's interesting to consider the fact that S-E decided to take it multiplatform, as the game will likely see a huge number of sales in Japan and the 360 just can't seem to find any sort of traction there. Clearly taking it multiplatform was strictly for bringing in Western audiences who have leaned toward purchasing the 360 over the PS3. Very clever S-E, I'm on to you.

Also, maybe Killzone 2 in Japan (it reached #3 on top 10 selling software) will get people buying PS3 for May. A lot of Japanese are thinking that Killzone is related to Kerberos Panzer cops and Jin-Roh. I'll put my bet they didn't care about the storyline, they look at Helghast and think oh "it's Jin-Roh: the official videogame".

I know that all of the guessing of the system sales is fun, but remember that 360 may be getting XIII as well, it is not getting VS XIII which may tie in to XIII and that will be a major deciding factor for those of us with both consoles.

@Shooter McGavin: No it will not. Final Fantasy 13 will sell at best a 7-8 million worldwide across both platforms. FF13 will sell at minimum 2 million in Japan. So it's going to be an uphill battle for the 360.

c) you cannot divide sold consoles by citizens and claim a number - for stationary consoles, they are usually used by more people or at least more people have access to them. That rate can be guessed a little bit more precisely but in the end you will always just pull a number out of your arse
d) from my personal experience, those people that don't have a wii, don't want one. So at the moment it seems to be reaching a certain peak. That will change probably as soon as the first interesting games get released but anyways...

@VMan902: I have a feeling it really won't cause a bump. People that own the platform already will buy it where as people were holding out for major releases on PS3(not western releases: lol Japan). It isn't like the DS where they buy a special edition, a bundle, for the game since Japan is on its feet so much. Home consoles are seeing a far slower adoption rate as time goes on where as the west still loves home consoles versus handhelds.

30k bump for MH3 and DQX at most. We can probably expect a 60k to 70k bump for FFXIII only because people have been holding out on actually buying a PS3.

What still miffs me, is why Americans continue to buy Xbox, when the Playstation is now clearly leading the way. Brand Loyalty? Peer Pressure? Exsiting Game Library? Product Quality? (only joking on that one)...

Whatever it is, Americans are missing out on a hell of a lot of fantastic PS3 games, and are totally oblivious to it. Motrostorm, MGS4, Uncharted, Resistance, Ratchet& Clank, Killzone and so forth. Even the PSN content like SSHD, LastGuy and the PixelJunk series.

And I'm willing to bet a fair percentage of PS3 owner's bought it with FFXIII in mind.
And 360 owners who would like some FFXIII action can either play a multi-disc port, or get a new console to play it (and a ton of other games) properly. And multi-console owners will probably et the PS3 version too.

Either way Sony don't lose, as Gam3r: pointed out, Sony own stock in S-E.

@Shooter McGavin: And yet, it was only a few games ago in the series that we were playing off of 4 discs. interestingly enough, having picked up Infinite Undiscovery this past week I had no problems switching to disc 2.

If I choose to pick up FF13 for my 360, which I probably won't, I would have no problems switching discs. It isn't like it is the end of the world to have to switch discs every ten to fifteen hours. I did it with FF 7,8, and 9 on the PS1 as well as just about every other RPG on that system. Heck I remember doing it on the PS2 and Gamecube. I can do it on the 360 and not feel bad...

@Microshock: As much as I think most 360 fans would try to disagree, I think it is still true that a big majority of 360 gamers just aren't the target audience for JRPG's. Look at previous JRPG releases, nothing really spectacular really considering the much larger user-base the 360 has.

But to be fair, I think that the target-audience for JRPG's on any console has shruck a bit, even if it's just in percentages. I think the trend in gaming is a more western-oriented gamedesign: less personal investment (time), pickup & play styled (shorter minimum play-time structure, heavy emphasis on multiplayer), more focus on the cinematic experience.

@Shooter McGavin: FF13 won't be on 5-6 discs. It'll be on 4. PS3 games have been developed with the retarded idea of having completely uncompressed sound when almost no one will actually ever notice the difference. No effort is made to actually optimize space during development.

It'll be on 4 dual layer discs, just like Lost Odyssey.

And if you're actually complaining about having to put in a different disc, I don't know what that says about you. You have to wait 5 minutes to install every chapter of MGS4. That's far, far, FAR more annoying than any 5 second disc change could ever possibly be. Especially considering only one chapter can be installed at any time and so you have to actually install a different chapter if you have a second person playing their own file and they're in a different part of the game.

@Shooter McGavin: think about it.. its going to be relased in japan and then months later it will be relased everywere else.. thats months head start for the ps3 version (:... but seeing as how SE has been sucking ms dick this gen the xbox will probs get "exclsuive DLC" ¬_¬

I expect to the sales have a huge spark of increase around the release of FF13 and drop back to where it was 1 and 1/2 years ago. The wii I expect to continually slide until the time of its death so rapidly approaches.

A little over 100K for SFIV and DMC4, but I'm not so sure about RE5. What I do know is that the US and Japan totals for both versions in the first month puts the 360 game ahead by 3K units. That leaves Europe where I believe the PS3 version was on top in some countries.
