The series went downhill after the gold silver games though. Ruby and Sapphire were alright but introduced too many legendaries and event pokemon, while diamond and pearl took it to another level.

I mean they completely diminished the legendaries of the first game... How does Mew stand up to Arceus the supposed god? or Celebi who can time travel against Dialga who controls Time.

While we're at the task of remaking Pokemon games, how about some decent remakes of Pokemon Stadium 1 and 2? Or, god forbid, make a new Pokemon Stadium? And not have it be complete garbage this time?

I am so friggin happy right now... although now I'll have to trade all my pokes over from platinum (or at least a few) to get my new pokedex up and running. But god, these games were my favorite; a perfect blend of old and new, with so many cool little new features that had me playing every day, every time of day just to see it's little world change in time with mine. Not to mention massive shock and awe when you first discover you can go to kanto again. My friend told me you could before I reached it but I thought he was making it up like the plethora of fake cheats and bugs that circulated when R/B/Y were out. Crap, I could go on forever. I love this friggin game.

What a good time it is to be a Pokemon fan. Classic shit gets remade good. Also, I just realized unlike the Fire Red/Leaf Green series which went from GB to GBA, the Gold/Silver remakes are skipping over the GBA system for a twice better remake!

If they add the Wi-Fi Mystery Gift function of Platnium to this game to give event items to go catch Mew, Celebi, Jirachi and Deoxys, and the event item for Arceus is given out, then by using Pal Park and Pokemon Ranger one could conceivably for once in the games actually catch them all legitimately.

People forget that they also introduced two new elements, steel and dark type to the fold. Held items. Night and day features as well.

In short, this was an example of a Pokemon game, revolutionizing an already great game, thats why a lot o people remember it fondly.

For Gameboy Color I had two Pokemon games. The one that came bundled with the handheld: Yellow, and later Gold. I spent hours and hours during the summer playing Gold. Can't wait to see the originals again.

A Pokemon game I might actually get. Gold and Silver were freaking awesome. It'll probably just be the same thing with a few of the crappy newer Pokemon thrown in, but what ever. Gold and Silver was awesome.

@ShaggE wants to join the Egg Council.: Well for many reasons Gold and Silver were the pinnacle of the pokemon series, it came out when the pokemon craze was at max and it had the new pokemon which were the next 100, which equalled to around 251 or 252 i forget, and also it had kanto and johto which meant 16 gyms and twice the explorable areas, it also introduced totodile which is pretty much everyones favorite from that batch of pokemon, anyways theres millions of other things but trust me get it, you wont regret it.

It's kinda funny, all people do is bitch about how Nintendo only makes rehashes and remakes and we need new material and blah-blah-blah, then when they make a remake people like it's suddenly "I love Nintendo!" or "Nintendo is the best!"

Of course with that said, I have spent at least 200+ hours on those games. I had a lvl 99 Typhosian and several others close to that on Silver, but I shared that game with my brother so I only did part of the work. On Gold, which was all mine, I had a level 98 Feraligater . The only question for me is which to buy?

YEAAH! Gold and Silver were the most expansive and most fun of the entire series. My only gripe is that they're going to saturate it with Ruby/Sapphire/Diamond/Pearl Pokemon. I mean, I'm fine with a decent amount of R/S Pokemon, but D/P didn't bring anything interesting to the table from what I recall.

I liked the ol' 251 from R/B/G/S.

Despite the fact that I've already bought a Pokemon game for my DS (Diamond), I'll probably get one of these too. Purely because of the fact that Gold/Silver had one of the best game worlds (largest total area of exploration combined with the widest variety of Pokemon initially available) even if it didn't have the greatest plotline ever (what with Team Rocket following up their takeover of a powerful and rather advanced R&D company by...conquering a radio station. Just so they can beg their old boss to come back and lead them again. God, even by the standards of the anime's Team Rocket, that was just sad).

I do admit Ho-Oh is cooler than Lugia... and Charizard is cooler than Blastoise (who's still mega cool)... but somehow, Blue and Silver are still > Red and Gold!

There are too many remakes in all medias these days.

But this is f***ing AWESOME!!!!

Silver was my favorite game growing up. I can remember I put in more hours on that than I did on Blue, which is saying something. One of my favorite childhood memories was beating Ash at my grandparents' house...after an hour-long battle.

I can see why they would want to revisit these early games though, as they can finally make them the way they had originally envisioned, although were unable to do so ten years ago due to limited hardware capabilities. If only Pokemon had been around a few years earlier, we could have enjoyed many SNES versions in all their glory!

The only Pokemon games I've played are the original(s) and the one(s) for the DS.

And the formula hasn't changed...at all.

Not that that is a bad thing, but should I really be excited for this? Or should I just re-buy the DS one (I sold it after I was convinced it would devour my soul. Too late.) and sat happy with that or wait for the remake of the "definitive" Pokemon game?

@smeloa: The battle and training system has evolved very nicely with each new major iteration. But I would like a new story, a new setup. Something other than a 10 year old boy or girl being given the choice between fire, water or grass.

One more comment, from the viewpoint of a person that loves fantasy novels, while "Heart Gold" and Soul Silver" are okay, personally, I think it'd sound better switched around to Gold Heart and Silver Soul. That is, if they want to keep it two words. Otherwise, Heart OF Gold and Soul OF Silver rings in the ear pretty good too. But, the way it's being presented right now, eh, it just doesn't a really nice [ding] to my ear.

Anyway, I am sooo happy over this. While I've been (I admit it, it's a guilty pleasure of mine) a Pokemon fan for a long time (though not from the very beginning), Platinum's my first Pokemon video game and I really love it. Been wishing I could get a chance to play some of the earlier editions based on the other Pokemon World regions, but was really wanting games that were more made for the DS and not GBA add-ons. Especially since I'm hoping they put in ALL the new doodads and upgraded doohickeys that I heard they put in the Platinum (i.e. the Poketch and it's apps, the animated sprites, battlescreens, etc etc).

@Stompy1: I agree with you, I would love if Nintendo actually tried to alter all of those elements instead of updating old games with new graphics. The story hasn't changed, the purpose of the characters hasn't changed. I agree the games sell very well and that seems to be Nintendo's only reason for making them, but other wise they no longer have the impact of the first Pokemon games. I just feel it is been a while since we've seen anything truly new from Nintendo.

I am just tired of the new Punch-out, Zelda, Mario, etc. I want something new, leave the old franchises alone as a memory they are starting to go down the Sonic road.

The G/S/C storyline is supposed to be 3 years after the R/B/Y storyline, so obviously things in kanto will have changed. G/S/C were the best pokemon games ever hands down. They introduced new types, had a day and night clock with events relating to them, hold items, berries, new pokemon, twice the badges, etc.

I always thought Pokemon would work best with a Chrono Trigger or Tales of Vesperia battle system.
This would allow them to flesh it out so much more, and make the battles more exciting.

They also need to make it more of an online experience. I think the idea of making it more like an MMO, is a good one.
