Red Orchestra Gets Sequel, Redundant Subtitle
We’ve quietly been fans of Tripwire’s Red Orchestra mods/games for years now. But three years on from the release of Ostfront 41-45, the game is showing its age. Time, then, for a sequel!
Ahead of a cover-blowing announcement in this month’s PC Gamer – which appears to have caught the devs off-guard – Tripwire have announced Red Orchestra: Heroes of Stalingrad, a full-blown sequel to Ostfront that will be built using the Unreal Engine 3.
And… that’s all we know! No screens or anything, sorry, but with a name like “Heroes of Stalingrad” you get the idea.

@Sevius: True, true, and not to trivialize those who died but at least they won.
I'm looking at it in the sense of at least playing a game with a somewhat positive outcome. No war is a good war, but at least WWII was positive in its outcome (for the most part, I don't want to open up that debate).
Best WWII game ever.

@Cygnus_Mal: What about proxy wars during the Cold War years? Hell, I'd settle for a "what if" scenario just to get out of the WWII theme.
@Cygnus_Mal: Well over twenty million Soviet citizens died due to the Second World War, so I'm not sure what you consider "absurdly depressing".
Oh and by "this" I mean the original game, but you guys knew that.
I bought this on steam a little less than a month ago. Played it once, then never touched it since. It's kind of a habit of mine to buy PC games and never play them, but in my defense it was only 5 bucks...
GAME 2!!!
@cyruss: i welcome another RO game though :) i'll probably buy it and never play it
That is pretty much the perfect way to display my thoughts on this game. Like RO, never play it.

I liked the original mod and kinda-sorta sequel Ostfront, but it definitely has a very selective appeal due to the realism factor.
I'll check this out when it shows up though. Speaking of mods-gone-retail, where the hell is the next Natural Selection?

that's cool. they said that RO sold 400k already, I think that's awesome (even though it had some $5 deals on Steam). and I pre-ordered Killing Floor already!
it's a pity that the game was never a success among Brazilian gamers, even though it still has a dedicated server 24/7. I remember when it was a mod too, me and some friends actually convinced this company to set up a server (which then upgraded to this 24/7 Ostfront server when it came out)

@Nutlink: That would be a good idea except Red Orchestra is about the Soviets, so what other war could it be about and not be absurdly depressing or have the player being the bad guy?
WWI- You climb out of a trench armed with a spear or a rifle with 5 round and get mowed down by German machine guns. Repeat severl million times. (I realise that the Red Army didn't really exist at this point but bear with me)
Afghanistan- Bulldoze through the first few levels, killing hundreds of thousands of people and destroying a country in the process, only to have the game make you lose no matter what.
Poland- Invade Poland. Then still lose.
They should have called it Crimson Symphony.
ba dump psh!
Thanks, folks! I'll be here all this week and, remember, see a clerk after the show to validate your parking pass.
In Soviet Russia, Stalingrad is YOUR hero, motherfuckers.

wow I totally forgot about this game... i have Red Orchestra but haven't played it in so long. When i was playing well in it i really enjoyed it, but when i was playing badly it was very frustrating because its so slow, and that gets frustrating when you're playing shit.
i welcome another RO game though :) i'll probably buy it and never play it :P
Loved the first one from the time I downloaded it as a mod until I bought it over Steam. I love the gameplay for the most part, but really, WWII again? If RO went Vietnam or modern I'd be all over it in a heartbeat, but I got tired of WWII after too much CoD1,2, Medal of Honor, and BF1942.
I thought the first was really cool.

i never really enjoyed the first one too much
RO 2 should be good fun. I still play the first
W00t! Oh, I love RO so much! I cannot wait!

@KaneRobot:
Natural Selection never went retail did it?
Amazing mod though.
@fix-cz:
AGREED!
I really enjoyed Red Orchestra Ostfront 41-45. To me, it's definitely the most realistic WWII game that's out there. I can't wait to see what they cook up for the sequel. Looks like it's about time to upgrade my 4 year old PC.
Oooooh Unreal Engine 3! :D

I was never able to understand how everything worked in the first one, but I had a lot of fun trying to survive in the warzone, occaisionally contributing to my team's efforts.
Sounds more like Swat 4 multiplayer than RO41-45 multiplayer game type.
And..., let me guess, its also coming out on console. thats why its "up to 10 player coop"...
Mixed news tbh.

@Kenny: Game 3 (technically)
Game 2, Killing Floor, is coming out in a few days
