Resistance Finally Comes Home

Things heat up on PlayStation Home this Thursday, as the long-promised Resistance home space finally appears in a hail of turret-fire.

The ruined cityscapes of Resistance comes to life tomorrow, when it will be filled with countless lifeless avatars running about, eager to win Resistance-themed prizes via the “Four Barrels of Fury” mini-game. The game lets you take control of a turret, blasting Chimeran ships out of the sky for a position on the global leaderboards and a chance at fabulous prizes.

PlayStation Home community managers will be on-hand tomorrow to do battle with players, and the folks from Insomniac will be making an appearance next Thursday, from 5:00-6:00pm Pacific to do the same. They’re also holding “Resistance 2: SRPA Siege” nights every Friday from 6:00pm-12am, giving players good reason to wander about the rubble of our once-proud planet.

    @Tony Crespo: Lets nip this one in the bud.

    When a flag is being flown from a pole horizontally the union (stars) will be against the pole. When being flown vertically it varies. If it is to be hung over a street the union will go to the north on an east-west street. And to the East on and north-south street. If being hung on a wall vertically the union will be to the observer's left.

    The reason the flag looks backwards on a military uniform is because of the arm it is placed on. On one side of military aircraft the flag appears wrong as well. This is because the flag will always be treated as flying when on a movable object. Imagine the flag on a uniform is on a little pole, when the person moves the stripes will move to the back.

    Hope that cleared up some misconceptions about the U.S. flag.

    @d1nonlyclo: I stand humbled with my stupid movie reference. :P

  • joshfigueroa

    Home would be cool with 2 ingredients. Booze and strippers. Thats it? Thats all it takes. And being able to watch movies with people sounds cool. Also making all furniture and clothing free. Otherwise theres no need for me to be in HOME. Why would I pay for that stuff? Its silly. Its not an MMOG so its a FAIL.

  • D0RC

    The best part about Home is waiting in line like 3 hours for these mini games. Plus its so wondering when everyone gathers around the mini game and put their bubble machines on the ground so you can't select the thing. Hooray for Home.

    Prizes are a great idea. I always thought microsoft was going to award prizes for trophys like the talked about years ago instead you get nothing. Hopefully sony will make trophys worth something other then bragging how much of your life you lost on a game.

  • Mike Newlad

    @MDX: It's a great game once it gets going. Mid way through the campaign it turns into a zombie fest and feels like a different game, then it switches back - I loved it.

    Mike Newlad

  • PapaBear434

    Wow, this sounds cool! I can't wait to wait in line to play this until I get bored and turn off my PS3 in disgust and annoyance!

  • Shanzay

    @Slothboy: Gee, I sure hope so!

    Shanzay

  • ryivanV2

    @jargy1: I tend to disagree, home fills the void in the games domain for social media junkies like facebook users, second life addicts and customisation and bling happy users from games like WoW. Its a huge audience.

    @goaliegeek:

    the stars are in the right position

    did you know its actually reversed on military uniforms

    "The game lets you take control of a turret, blasting Chimeran ships out of the sky for a position on the global leaderboards and a chance at fabulous prizes."

    Shouldn't it be "The game lets you stand in virtual line for 45 minutes before it lets you take control of a turret...?

  • joshfigueroa

    You man a static turret, hooray. What? I am excited for this. I am. Really? Its as fun as being asked to pay money to buy fictional clothing in a virtual space.

  • 0rin

    good, maybe this will drive the hordes of people away from Siren's minigame.

  • deanbmmv

    @stealthpengu:
    That would be pretty awesome. We were just gonna livestream it through the PS3 browser to the living room tele, but live streaming it in Home would be even more geeker/gamery.

    @PissedPS3Fan: Hmm while my time in Home has been limited to Xi mostly, I've found it easy to get a table in either the EA space, or Godfather II space, and since each space is an "instance", they should never be too crowded. Same goes for Arcade games. Now the mini game for the Siren home space was crowded as hell because it was new, that should even be better this week.

    Home is slowly, VERY slowly, becoming a decent place to spend a little bit of time. Decent is not the same as good though, so it's got quite a ways to go. The problem is it's focused around making new friends but is just a big hassle if you already have a group of friends to play with. Why jump into Home and wait for my friends when I can just jump into the game directly with them? It's that kind of red tape that makes it bullshit. If I wanted to meet new people, I'd do just that. If I wanted to meet people to play games with, I'd meet them in the games. See where the problem lies Sony? Home fills a hole that was never empty to begin with.

    I wanna know how many turrets will be available. It's already a pain in the ass to play arcade games and poker because there aren't enough slots.

  • 716

    @Fil Vina: As far as I know, when displaying the American flag, it's considered proper form for the stars to be in the upper left whether it's hung horizontally or vertically. If the flag can be seen from both sides (in a window, for example), stars should appear on the left to the most viewers. So in the window example, they would be on the left when viewed from outside, right when inside.

    (At least, I'm pretty sure that's right.)

    the only thing that will give home a reason to be is a live-streaming event room for E3

    @Michael Forsberg:

    That Xi ARG is also quite intriguing.

    But wouldn't it be great if playing other games netted you free Home crap? Like, getting a platinum trophy in inFAMOUS or something got you a download code for a Cole outfit, or doing well in Killzone 2 netted one of those Helghast things.

    Maybe even special furniture for the Home apartment or something to put down other than that bubble machine.

    It's really great to see Home getting new things every week now.It really is getting to be an interesting place especially with Xi and all the new places you can go to.If only they could add more furniture and appliances to make your room look better for free.

    Still, I think this is nice. Home is still lousy in many aspects, but for every new room, it gets less lousier.

    Somebody tell Insomniac that they keep putting the US flag on the wrong way. Stars on the left. Well, I guess Resistance is set in a different reality, so left is right. can't wait to visit it Thursday!

    Not to the woefully under-featured UK/Europe Home I'm sure. Saying that though, fired up my US account last week and even with all the extra spaces and content it was still a load of dull shit.

    AXATAX

  • AXATAX

    @PissedPS3Fan:
    Looking at the video, I think it will be like the Red Bull space, whereby there is no limit to the amount of people that can use it, because each person appears using the turret only to themselves on their own PS3 system, as opposed to appearing on everyone's PS3 system (i.e. arcades, bowling etc.).

    AXATAX

  • 716

    @Xer0Ph0kus: Yes, a flag on a person's uniform or a vehicle should always have the union (a.k.a. the blue bit with the stars) closest to the person's/vehicle's front. So on a soldier's left arm or a plane's left side, the union is in the top left. But on the right arm or right side, the union is top right.

    This is to create the impression that the person/vehicle carrying the flag is moving forward... to VICTORY!

    (Thus, Guile is a coward in HD Remix. Or the artists just didn't know flag protocol.)

    I'm amazed at how crowded PSHOME is every time I go in there. I don't dislike home, I actually like it, but don't go in often. I just can't imagine that this is just one of the servers.

    Does anyone know (statistically) how many users are logged in for over 5 minutes a day?

    Just curious.

    "the long-promised Resistance home space finally appears in a hail of turret-fire"

    Should read "Hale of turret-fire". Get it? As in Nathan Hale? jk

    I'll check out the space, try the game, another reason to briefly visit Home.
