Rumour: Qore Lets Slip The First Look At PSP Go
GamersConsoleNetwork scored a big scoop this morning, pulling the first images of the PSP Go (running LittleBigPlanet) out of the latest edition of Qore, which apparently went live early.
On top of that, someone managed to film the video and place it on YouTube. That’s below (bad audio)
In the video:
• Grand Turismo, LittleBigPlanet, Jak & Daxter and Metal Gear are all either confirmed or mentioned.
• The Go’s 16 gigs of flash memory and bluetooth support (”You can also tether it to your cell phone,”) are touted.
• PSP Go will not replace the PSP-3000; the 3000 will still be kept on the market.
So, there’s your garden-variety pre-E3 leak/rumour/big splash. Just the facts for now. Thanks to the dozens of tipsters who saw this and alerted us.

@doubtful: No reason not to add one. It would satisfy a lot of people, it would not harm compatibility with existing games, and support for it could be optional for future games, so it wouldn't break compatibility with old PSPs in the future either.
MechaTama31
i thought this was a joke...it really is ugly
@PatMan33:
This is NOT a PSP2, so there really won't be any new features like that. It is simply a UMDless redesign of the exiting machine with a big chunk of built-in memory.
@xxXX_Insanities_Birth_XXxx:
More like the PSP 0.5 since they're taking away a more important feature than they're adding.
@cyrax08:
Agreed.
I know I said this in a reply post above this, but I can't stress how ugly that circular look is.
@krssvr92:
I agree it's ugly as sin. I was actually HOPING that those concept pics were the ones they were going to make. Even though my old psp broke I was really hoping for a sharp looking machine.
I have absolutely lost all interest. The reason I think it looks so ungodly is due to the fact that it is round/curves, yet it wants to be a slider, which makes it look awkward when it is fully slid out. If it was rectangular and sharp like the concept pictures and slid out it would look much better. But this looks so weak it looks like I'm not going back to portable gaming for a very long time.
@NeoAkira: WTF, everyone knows what the PSPGO! does as far as what a Knife does. But how do I know how sharp and smooth and easy to touch a knife is until I hold it/use it???
@Fadakar: Just because more people troll with you doesn't make it okay, this is the internet after all.
@Genocyde: It's silly... after reading your comment, we don't know, but we do know, but we will find out next week, so we don't know. Either you know, or you don't. I'm saying, stop judging the feel of something you haven't felt.
Haroon Piracha
@Shredator: Oh. The infamous claw. I never understood what that was about before.
Where Duel Analog!
hmm looks pretty cool..
16 gigs not to bad.
i did like the psp2 fan made (or not) pics more..
it had the 2 analog nubs, touch screen etc etc.
i wonder if you are goin to be able to use the umds.
psn is a bit meh..
they are goin to have to amp it up abit
xtraman
@Antiterra: My fear of the levels of stupid that we're about to bear witness to is almost enough to keep me away from the internets for a while. Almost. Instead I'll most likely end up repeatedly bashing my head into my keyboard every time some nub fails to understand this is a redesign in line with every other trimming redesign Sony has done on their systems, not the PSP2.
Sir-Lucius
@Archaotic: I think you and I are the only ones who like the design. XD
@Roxas13th: Is that the original Jak and Daxter?? I do miss the lighthearted days of the duo.
@Crimsondramon: This. One of the things Sony has annoyed me most with this generation is the lack of emphasis/support when it comes to PS3/PSP connectivity. There is SO much potential for there that it's really embarrassing that devs haven't been using the two systems to their fullest potential, and even more embarrassing that Sony hasn't been hyping that shit like crazy.
Ideally, I'd like the ability to take do things like level grind on the go and then bring my character back to the main game, do extra side missions and side quests, and have mini games to pass the time. Devs could flesh out other character's back stories in vignettes and provide more depth to a games story in ways that aren't possible in the main game due to time restraints and such.
Hopefully Resistance 2/Retribution was the start, and LBP and MGS will start to expand upon what devs can do to link the two systems. There is so much potential between the two systems, and bringing more connectivity would really help to expand on Sony's goal of an all encompassing media center.
@Patriot Infinity: By that logic Big Boss had his time in not only MGS3 but also Portable Ops.
Sir-Lucius
Is it just me, or does it look like hand cramp city?
Jordan White
@K1NG EV1L: I agree, it should be a "clam shell" case like the DS. Those buttons and D-Pad look way too low to be practicle or comfortable.
@firstworldgamer…dood: Let me fill you in because you're being cocky when you have no idea what Revenge_of_Nekojin is talking about.
Most of us Monster Hunter players control the camera by using our index finger in a "claw" like position on the D-Pad so we don't use the shoulder buttons to control the camera...ever.
Nothing to do with clawing the shoulder buttons...
@gojirah: Congrats! you made the 8th page! Let the flood of comments begin!
@BlueToast shouldn't play with fire!: I don't know why but that made me lol really hard.
@firstworldgamer…dood: No, in MH the analog nub is used to move and the d-pad rotates the camera. Most people use their forefinger to move the camera while moving with their thumb. Doing that on THIS would be HORRIBLE.
@offshore: Yeah more than one person, let's not forget to fire the guy who designed this.
@Hindesite: agreed, aesthetically very pleasing but functionally not good at all. Please tell me they will fix this or add umd slot
@xxXX_Insanities_Birth_XXxx: lol exactly. Why would it matter if we found out today or Thursday? I like what I've been hearing so far wether it's been leaked or purposely put out.
thank you sony, though i wish the new metal gear would be on ps2 :S
@Archaotic: Metal Gear Raiden? Fuck no. His story is over and done with. I want a Prequel with Big Boss on the PS3 goddammit.
Patriot Infinity
@Jacob Mikulec: Dude!
Shinta
People complaining about the lack of a second analog-- I don't think it's time yet for a brand new software development cycle. This device is likely going to be compatible with all previous PSP titles, and it will not require developers to get grips with a new SDK. Sony is trying to capitalize on their existing install base, not supplant it with a new one.
Looks Way uncomfortable to hold. and what about all of our old UMD games eh??????????
vosslerbasch
i feel betrayed by the lack of another nub....
hokagespit
NO touchscreen? Whats the SLIDE in there for? Nonsense!
looks rather dumb, terrible analog stick, shoulder buttons??? still no second stick(and this just confirms that we wont be seeing it anytime soon) looks like my g1 phone os a sidekick, sounds like the psp wasnt portible enough so now we get this, metal gear could be that umd transfer business but the other 3 games i have high interest in, seems like a risky idea but it could work if it costs 150 or less... im not sure if ill pick one up probably will when the whole digital download business gets smoothed out and more games to download(looking at you squenix)
Timothy Saskiewicz
Goodbye Nintendo DS and iPhone! Time to pick up some Sony stock, PSP Go is going to be HUGE
And it only has one analog nub. That thing can eat shit.
@SuperSonik: eh, it's cool with me. I don't need it to impress with it's looks, I need it to impress with it's "Game Playing Ability", which should be fine.
BlueToast shouldn't play with fire!
@+ Watch video
@bkchurch: I have a UMD copy of "The Labyrinth" with David Bowie and Jennifer Connely. I don't have a PSP.
BlueToast shouldn't play with fire!
uhhh... they should have put another nub and move the start and select buttons just above the analog stick. then i'll stop bitching.
@CockroachMan: What the hell is the second photo?!?!
Jacob Mikulec
@CockroachMan: Dude... After that second photo, there's no way the PSP slim is fake.
have they justified yet why they didn't add the second stick? seriously, what is their rationale behind leaving it out?
Acornactivist
i thought UMD was not going anywhere...yea that will stay on the market as long as the GBA did whn DS hit its stride...
uWaAvenger
They should have just added a second analog stick, improved the hardware, and called this the PSP2.
@jamesjohnson01: Not sure if your resolution numbers are correct, double check em.
@fishbonez:
for now i think there is a psp and ps3 game so it be pretty epic but OMFG i just realized it the keyword from the kojima site was PS 3 E 6 or a G and O or 0
so E3 PS3 PSP GO haha no 360 fan boys :D
Gran Turismo anounced, right.
I think I've heard this before. Oh yes, before buying my PSP...
@Mit: Actually Valve admitted that the Spy leak was not deliberate, in fact they "fired everyone who knew about it".
How is this a new announcement to anyone?! I seen this psp at least a month ago, but the design had a sec analog I thought...Oh well. There getting as bad as nintendo with the amounts of re-releasing the same system with minor tweaks, but 15 gb is nice.
@Tannrar: I hope it means cheaper games too.
biofreak
@tobz1000: I can only advise you to grin and bear it, because we'll be seeing hundreds, if not thousands, of "why no 2nd analog?" comments in the coming days/weeks/months - not unlike how every other comment on the DSi was "why no GBA slot?"
@jamesjohnson01: this stuff is a definite panny-dropper as well *mouth waters*
Rey Rodrigues
@bkchurch: i think apple will continue to dominate, but for the dicerning gamer- such as ourselves, we would at least consider the pros of unifying our online gaming and our media library in a handheld. it really is appealing to me
Rey Rodrigues
It's more of a psp replacement than a full upgrade, the missing second analog stick solidifies these allegations.
I am assuming it will be only slightly better than the psp, possibly full ps2 caliber but that's about it.
@Genocyde: "Easy there, fanboy."
Translation: "Calm down. Actually FLAME!"
tobz1000
@t3hVeG: This is seriously the first comment I've seen from someone who realises this. What's so hard to get about it?
tobz1000
@t3hVeG:
thank you gosh people think psp go is like psp 2 or the new one so should have 2 analog sticks im sure sony isnt making a new psp for a while :D
@reality.exe -console: You're thinking of the wrong mock-up. 1up's rendering looked almost identical to the real thing (shaped like a PSP and all).
MARl0
@notMordecai: I am trying to imagine how uncomfortable this thing is to hold for any longer than 5 minutes. That, and you really can't get away with only analog nub for the target market of this device.
SuperSonik
@okenny :) ...building bridges (to hide under): I think Sony could definately do with some constructive criticism on the look of this handheld.
pmur
I, for one, am excited about this new psp. I'm curious to see where they take it. Aren't you?
@bkchurch: There are a few significant things it has or has over the iPod:
- Real, HD, HDMI video out.
- An OLED 16:9 800x480 screen, over iPod's 480x320.
- HD radio streams.
- Zune marketplace subscriptions.
- Connectivity with the 360, possibly even XBLA games.
- Apps and games are indeed being made for the Zune. Probably not as drastically as Apple's, but still stuff.
@Slapmaster5000: If you don't need it then don't buy it.
Narishma
important questions:
Screen size?
Scren Resolution?
Is there a better CPU/GPU?
Why no second thumb stick?
Virussz
Just in case anybody was going to check, don't bother turning on your PS3 to download Qore, the June issue has simply disappeared. My queue only shows issues up to May, then July. I'm guessing it will magically return either on Tuesday, after Sony's press conference, or on Thursday.
What? no second analogue? Please go die off in a corner sony. =@
nesstee
@edhe (xbl): They won't add a second nub until the PSP2. This one is just another PSP redesign.
Narishma
Wait, there are people who actually use their PSP? Wow, this is news!
It's really ugly. The original PSP design is certainly not the best thing that's come out of Sony look-wise either, but this thing is a downgrade as far as looks are concerned.
How could the Sony that designed the PS3 design this ugly thing?
@CockroachMan: I wasn't convinced... until I saw the second photo.
@Rey Rodrigues:
Haha, alright that's fair enough. I was curious is all. I'm aware the Zune has an app store as well I'm just curious how many developers you're going to see releasing anything on it what with the dominance Apple's device has on the market and all. Then again maybe we'll start seeing multiplatform releases...
bkchurch
@cluster1990: Yeah, but unlimited transfers from your PS3 as long as your PSP is still activated.
tobz1000
@Heliophage: i think they mentioned something about releasing a software which allows you to transfer your UMDs to your memory stick
@microhenry:
That is the dream *sigh*
bkchurch
@NeoAkira:
You can't download the types of games you'd buy at retail on the DSiWare store can you? Maybe I'm wrong but I'm fairly certain the only games available for download are simple WiiWare type games. On the PSP there's those simple WiiWare type games you can buy (like Everyday Shooter) or you can buy entire retail type games like God of War. Not knocking the DS, I bought a phat and a lite at launch, but I'd say the PSP has the one-up on it in terms of downloadable games. Plus the PSPGo has that 16gb of built in storage. That may not seem like that big of a deal to you or I who know how easy it is to find cheap high capacity SDHC cards for their DSi but to the average consumer who doesn't know any better that 16gb of onboard storage is a very enticing bullet point on that box.
bkchurch
New Metal Gear? Is anyone thinking that's what Kojima's announcement is?
@okenny :) ...building bridges (to hide under): I think it looks stupid and uncomfortable. My adult hands won't fit on that stupid thing and be able to comfortably move my thumbs to the analog NUB and buttons. I'm happy I have a slim, I seriously don't need this downgrade, Sony's DSi.
@bkchurch: im not an apple hater but i love my zune. i love xbox live service, and there is a app store on zune marketplace. just nothing on it yet. ipod touch doesnt link to xbox live though... i know. i have one.
Rey Rodrigues
@Haroon Piracha:
Do you have no ability of perception? I can look at a knife and tell that if I stab myself it'll hurt. But according to you, that opinion is invalid till I actually stab myself.
Wonderful logic there.
Nowhere near as good as the mock-up we saw ages ago.
It looks cheap.
@bkchurch:
Actually, there's a game store for the DSi if you didn't know.
And I'm pretty sure that the ugliness of this design will detract from its sales MUCH more than the fact that you can download games directly to it.
That's why apple products sell well; cause they don't look like shit.
Explain to me HOW THE HECK does the PSP get a new Jak and Daxter while the PS3 doesn't?!?!
JoBo
@Coquiton:
You must be blind then, cause this is a fiasco of a design.
@Zorantor: I was hoping to be the first, mentioned personally and to receive and email from one of the Kotaku team which I would then print out and hang on my wall.
yeah...
@Tannrar:
still if Im switching i'm going to want more space I think, keep in mind you buy a game on PSN it works for 5 downloads or something like that?
My only complaint is that the should add another joystick instead of the start & select which is so stupid.
NO touchscreen and 2nd analog? Why release this at all?
tingyu
@Andizee:
this one!!
: [www.electricpig.co.uk]
I'll patiently wait for the PSP Go2LiteV.2, thank you very much! Why is it that the first version of a new piece of hardware is always so damn ugly. You'd have thought they had time to work it out by now.
djfp
That is utter shit. How can any of you say that looks good?
And they stupidly didn't do double analogs.
How DUMB is that?
Looks like another pass for me.
Get it right Sony and I will buy one.
Digitalbump
@abort_user: Exactly... Is just a slider-PSP... With smaller screen... And still one analog nub...
Smells like fail.
@Haroon Piracha: Seriously, listen to these people. I figured you'd assume what I'm saying, but I guess these other posters had to clear it up. I not once said I had held one. I'm ASSUMING, if that's alright by you.
that thing is ugly, i wish they would have designed it better and the button placement sucks. This thing will probably not be cheap
+ Watch video
Here's the full video of Qore June's episode.
I wish that they would move the START/SELECT buttons up a little into that big empty space and replace the location with a second analog. Lacking two analogs on the PSP was IMO a fatal flaw for all shooters on the PSP.
I don't know... I love how slick it looks, but the controls just seem awkwardly placed. And it's still missing that second analog stick we all wanted.
I'm going to wait and see what MS brings to the table at E3. Hopefully the rumors of an xbox handheld turn out to be true, or the Zune grows some tactile controls.
Sigh....I think it might start like the PS3 $600 I wont pay no more than $300 for it. mean sure it has to expensive
@Haroon Piracha: Easy there, fanboy. Fadakar has a point, that looks (as in, basing an opinion given the material posted) massively uncomfortable to hold, but we'll see this week.
That thing is FUGLY
@Coquiton: Mock up looked miles better than this horrid design. Alas, I still have no reason to update from my PSP-1000.
Rinaldus
I'm a little concerned about that analog stick. How far does it actually stick out?
This is all fine and dandy but the real question is price.
"Not replacing the PSP-3000" suggests low price. 16GB of memory and bluetooth capability suggest otherwise.
cutmaclass
Wait, is it true then that it won't use UMD's?
@abort_user: You can't call something a POS when you've only seen the physical design of it. You know very little of its actual functionality.
Corik_Starr
unless the games will be cheaper in digital format.. i really see no reason to get this when ive already spent something like 300 (ive had 2) on the psp already.
pass...
@abort_user:
The PSP has been doing quite well for itself since it came out. It's getting a glut of great games this year. This redesign and the emphasis on downloading games directly to the PSP will attract a lot of people who previously weren't interested. Sony's doing just fine with the PSP and this is a great step in that continued success. There is no need for a PSP2 yet.
Also Nintendo is lightyears ahead of Sony in sales because they own the casual market. That's a market the PSP cannot hope to touch. Sony knows where their bread is buttered and they have that audience square in their reticules. They also have something big that Nintendo doesn't: the ability to download entire games directly to the systems onboard flash memory. Why do you think iPhone games sell so well? Impulse buys. People don't have to shop, they don't have to see the money they're spending since there's never any cash involved, and they can buy a game whenever they're in range of a wireless access point. With the heavy emphasis Sony's putting on downloadable titles with the Go I'd be shocked if we don't see game sales skyrocket.
bkchurch
omg... this thing is so ugly!
i loved the other rumored version of it so much more!!!!
.... it reminds me of a... game gear in a way.... just by the shape of it.... ugh.....
@Fadakar: 5 senses? one of them being TOUCH? Dude... I'd imagine if you held the PSP GO! in you hands, you'd know, wouldn't you? ... Lord... I don't hate you, I just hate what you're doing. Trolling.
Haroon Piracha
@shanrulez: SNAKE? SNAKE?! SNAAAAKE!
@Coquiton: Awesome design? It might be kinda cool to watch videos on and just close the screen down to cut the controls out of your viewing experience, but as far as gameplay goes I can't see that being anything but an extremely uncomfortable design.
@Mactheridon: He said it can tether to your cell phone. so probably not.
@Rey Rodrigues:
Why? I'm no Apple fanboy but the Zune HD looks like like an iPod Touch with built in Radio and completely lacking the app store. Don't get me wrong it looks like a cool device but it's not going to do anything of importance the iPod Touch doesn't do and it's going to be lacking a number of things you could get with an iTouch through applications.
bkchurch
Dammit Sony how hard is it to give us a second analog stick.
David Finkelstein
@Neo-Senku: The World's Finest Pervert: Yeah and right now it's
Sony +2 (trico and slim PS3 interest me)
MS +0
Nintendo +1 (no more heroes 2).
xxXX_Insanities_Birth_XXxx
WTF?!
Interesting news on a Saturday???
@Haroon Piracha: I think he was speculating. That's what us Internet folk do when details are scarce. Is that alright with you?
Hmmm so does it still have the umd slot? Or is this flash memory/memory cards only?
I'm surprised no one has done this yet, [tinypic.com] I tried (using the measurements from the screen going from 4.3 to 3.8 inches) to get the ratio right, but it is a rough guess and a side bby side comparison nethertheless.
David Wells
oh my. That looks ungly and uncomfortable. i like the large screen but the bottom really kills it.
brandoshido
They should have gone with the look of the DS, that screen is going to get dirty or scratched up. I mean the only difference would be the top being the screen and the bottom half would have the speakers and maybe a UMD disk drive if they're will to put one in. Also it would allow you to have two thumb sticks.
K1NG EV1L
Electro Lemon@Destructiod pointed out that this is prob a modified Mylo:
[bigmacky.files.wordpress.com]
Kinda lazy of Sony to do that.
o dear god, no second analog, are you fucking kidding me?
@OMG! Why are we all going OMG!?: Kind of like the new hardware functionality that nintendo added to the DSi?
Spenze
No second nub = no thanks. Pass
Dyvid
@abort_user: I think the most annoying part is the placement of the Start/Select buttons. The circular design almost looks like it's there to make people subconsciously not notice its absence.
@Hey_Blinkon: Yeah the mock up was much nicer than this.
Bergerac
damn, just saw the full qore video... it seems the expansion slot is for memory stick micro :( what the hell i'm' supposed to do with my pro duos :(
fortelv999
i may upgrade my slim if this is true.
legendofmike
@Haroon Piracha: I'm sorry I'm the sensible one between the two of us and can utilize the 5 senses I was given at birth. I get annoyed holding my PSP2000 and that isn't the thinnest, I imagine if that bottom half is any thinner it'd be uncomfortable as hell, having to wrap your whole hand around a sliver of plastic. Also, I hate you too. kthx.
Ill stick to may Cracked Phat thanks.
If they can't crack the 3000-series, odd's are they wont be able to on the GO!
PowerFeed
@microhenry: "Thanks to the dozens of tipsters who saw this and alerted us."
Sounds like you weren't the only informant on this one.
I would have actually bought one if it had 2 analog sticks
FiorellaHydra
i dunno. i find it slick but in the same time,im not so satisfied about it. mixed emotions about the psp go.
and IF that circle beside the dpad is the stick,then i dunno about its comfort. hmmmm,we'll see what happens. on my opinion though, is sony really wants to compete with the DS, they are gonna have to focus alot on gaming and piracy. yes i know ds has alot of pirated issues, but i heard that many developers decided to do their games on DS because the problem of piracy is more deep in psp.
The start and select buttons are in a round fucking spot where there should be a SECOND ANALOG.
Seriously Sony? What. The. FUCK.
Sorry to be negative but i really dont like the placement of the nub, its in the middle of the console and far too close to the buttons. They need it to be under the dpad and the screen to flip up a little more to accomodate it. Shame theres no second nub too, stardust psp suffers for it. Looks nice enough but cant see me switching out my psp 2000 cfw for this.
touchmypenguinagain
*Shows up to the party late*
Just downloaded Qore and yeah it has the video.
@Fadakar: What, like you have some merits? please, all you can say is "it looks ugly" But I hate people on the internet, who have never played with a PSPGO!, never touched it, never held it in their hands or even seen one in real life tell us how much of an expert they are on "poor button placement". And now somehow you're an expert on pricing for consoles? Your welcome.
Haroon Piracha
@Revenge_of_Nekojin: Are you talking about the shoulder buttons? How would someone play Locoroco?!
pssst... I think they're behind the screen. Meaning you could claw it up when it is closed.
Hello? Sony? The 80´s are over!
@cyrax08: Yeah, looks like crap
Hey_Blinkon
One time where a Qore subscription means something cool. Like finding out new stuff through direct-fed Sony news.
The PSP Go! looks pretty cool. Aside from actual looks. I have the PSP-2000, and I love it. I wonder how long Sony can separate the two consoles. I mean, Nintendo doesn't really promote the DS now that the DSi is out. The first commercials never mentioned the regular DS, only the DSi. Now the commercials mention simply: "Nintendo DS".
I guess we'll have to wait until the 4th? Can't wait.
@Kyolux: Your current PSP has a DUO slot, so even old PSPs can play digital titles.
@grantanamo: I would have to hold it to see for sure, but I don't like the placement of the analog nub at all. It looks way far away. And yeah I really hope they have some place to grip behind the screen, otherwise it would be hopeless.
@JoshiiWah: Concept is good. Design is crap.
lars18th
@abort_user:
It's not supposed to be a successor, its a damn redesign.
I'll defintely be getting this if it's not substantially more expensive than the current PSP and if there is a practical, convenient way for users to get their prexisting UMD games to it (that does not require a PS3).
Vault69
Can't say I like the design... My guess is that the shoulder buttons will feel awkward.
Wahrheit
@Archaotic: Even if i own a PSP already, i´m buying a Go! when it comes out. I just hope they make all the library of the console available in PSN.
Daniel Pizarro Sánchez
I guess i'll be buying a third PSP. Thats ok though because it looks like i'll finally be able to keep it in my pocket without even noticing it.
@Heliophage:
Not really a big deal since it's safe to assume all PSP games will get a downloadable release along side the UMD from this point on. There's also rumors that a lot of the older PSP titles are going up on the PSN. And who the hell bought UMD movies anyways?
Still I prefer the models with a UMD drive simply because I like my physical media and if I want to just put it on a memory stick it's really not difficult to make an .iso.
bkchurch
How the hell do you play Monster Hunter on that? You won't be able to do 'The Claw'.
@â™ Final â™ is set to stun.
It'd does look like Sony's Mylo was reused for PSP. If that is the case we can expect smaller screen, much weaker battery than the PSP Phat, weak construction, and most importantly uncomfortable hold and use once the screen is open position.
When I blow-up the picture in PS and compare it side by side with my Mylo (yes I do have a 2nd gen. Mylo, please stop laughing [-_-]) the design is nearly identical.
@OMG! Why are we all going OMG!?:
Oop, my bad indeed, I wasn't thinking properly - it's the heat I tell you!
woons
@get2sammyb: Is the Metal Gear teaser related to this!?
@ChaoticInfinityX: Same here. I might jump into this version if something huge happens. Like fixing remote play.
ugh, dpad and analogue stick in wrong place. do not want.
@KFJ:
And no one in Iceland will buy this, as most of us have a one gig per day DL limit D:
KFJ
It doesn't look good. It looks fine but its kinda ugly. And where is the second joystick?! Why do they just ignore people's suggestions? Thats ridiculous.
@grantanamo: im holding out for the ZUNE HD.
Rey Rodrigues
@Heliophage: Well, it may be slightly more powerful than previous models like the DSi is but apart from that it looks like it's going to be pretty much the same. I would be surprised if there wasn't some way to transfer UMDs to the PSP Go, the rumour was that there would be kiosks in Gamestops and probably other retailers. The PSP library will likely go up on the Playstation Store and the controls are the same as before.
So like I said, it's definitely a bigger jump than previous hardware revisions but just not enough to classify it as the PSP 2.
In all honesty, I think it looks like something that a chinese manufacturer would release. And the PSP Go isn't all that good a name :(
KFJ
Why does everyone think an upgrade to the PSP should have a second analog? It will screw the hell out of people who don't want to upgrade.
Unbelievable, even with that radical design change SONY still manages to omit the 2nd analog stick!?!?!?! WTF?!?!
The 3D Render/Mockup was an overall better design than this rotund and neutered wonder. What's with rounded edges? I much prefer the cleaner, sharper and thinner design of the 3D render/Mockup.
FUCHIPATAS
I'm loving the overall design, but Monster Hunter will be even harder to play thanks to the analog placement. I'm still getting one though.
@OMG! Why are we all going OMG!?:
Yep.. that settles it..
the two supposed boxes:
[i41.tinypic.com]

ewwww.....that thing is ugly.

@MARl0: Not really, it's shaped less like a big square, more like.. well, a PSP.
It's ugly and there's no 2nd analog, so I'll pass.
Trowble (XBL/PSN)
sliding phones/screens are garbage
@Fadakar: A 16g USB pen drive runs about $40. I am pretty sure the cost of the memory will be a lot cheaper than the UMD drive, lens and motor assembly... So if anything, it should be cheaper than the current PSP.
lars18th
@edhe (xbl): Agreed... 2nd analog or bust, and it seems they choose bust.
Funny thing is that they have space above the nub and start/select bevel where they could've spread out the start and select (beveled so as not to conflict with the closing of the system) and given us a 2nd nub.
Overall though, I'm not digging the relative closeness of the buttons. Looks like me and my 2000 series are in it for the long haul.
@Tannrar:
16gb is good but I'm pretty happy with the 32gb I'm rockin my 2000 right now =)
bkchurch
no dual sticks?
@xxXX_Insanities_Birth_XXxx: Totally Agreed. As long as good stuff is coming could care less when and where they announce it.
Neo-Senku: The World's Finest Pervert
@OMG! Why are we all going OMG!?:
Indeed. The box for the PSP-GO is with a blue stripe will the slim has read. Ugh. The sound of saying I got a go in my pocket and slim at home.
mitch_93
@Archaotic:
Well, Kojima joked once before about a metal gear raiden for psp, so we'll see. I like the device, but I want to know,
Is there a method to get disc based games you already own to it?
Will downloadable games be cheaper than their disc based counterparts?
@offshore: Yeah. The box is too similar to the PS3 slim box. Both confirmed in one day if you ask me.
mitch_93
THAT IS SO FUGLY!!!
No second stick? i'm not buying this shit
I hope not... that thing is fugly.
It looks like the bastard child of Mylo and a PSP.
If you look closely at the Remote Play icon on the PS3 XMB, it looks like this PSP without the buttons slid out.
shadowlegend
@PatMan33:
Why wouldnt the PSP include the most wanted/demanded/whined about part of the PSP. Due to the fact they didn't ad it. There is no reason for me to pick this up.
Helllooooo handheld Xbox!
Stealth_chill
@Fadakar:
It could, but honestly its just not a practical solution.
@get2sammyb: I doubt it. I think he's just saying how it's possible to get them downloaded from the store and they'll probably be launch download titles for the PSP Go. Hey, I could be wrong, but don't you think we would know already if it was new content?
ieatchocolate
@Gunlore: There was never a chance of dual analog. This isn't an all new system, it's just a redesign of the existing specifications.
KainReborn
What is with all these leaks? Wait why is E3 happening? Oh yeah, the swag :p
Looks okay, would've liked a different and second analog stick though but that's just wishful thinking. Not bad but a little disappointed.
its ugly and oddly shaped
The DS is bulkier so what's the big deal?
@electroshockwave: Frankly, it'll be the other way around if anything...
@Archaotic: But I don't want to buy a second PSP for a New Metal Gear. I hope they'll keep releasing UMDs too.
@XtRiT: Dude.......
@BarbeQueQ: DUDE!!!!!!?!??!
Mactheridon
Well if the PSP-3000 and PSP Go are going to coexist, then I'll probably only get the Go if there's a way to rip UMD games to it. There are too many games that I've been waiting to play 'cause of this announcement, and dammit, I'm going to play them one way or another.
Damn I was hoping the PSP Go was going to be a whole new portable system so the original PSP would be discontinued and I could pick one up cheap. Guess I'll just keep waiting :p
duckyofalarcon
@offshore: i sure hope so. how many times can they shoot their own feet?
this doesnt even look like the psp successor. which if thats true they really missed a huge opportunity. nintendo half assed their successor handheld with the dsi which i might add will run circles around this pos. but a true successor might give the big n a run for its $.
well i guess if microsoft doesnt fuck up their supposed handheld ill get one of those instead.
abort_user
@RyderJ: That's what the PS3 is for.
@okenny :) ...building bridges (to hide under): I believe it looks the same as that leaked box pic from before.
OMG! Why are we all going OMG!?
@Go Go Gadget: Thugmunk: god, i forgot about that video. i still cringe throughout every single second of it...
@OMG! Why are we all going OMG!?: tbh i couldn't care less that my PSP doesn't support a blutooth headset.
That looks like one of those little fake PSP consoles you can buy which only play shitty LCD games. It looks unbelievably cheap and nasty.
@Archaotic:
the 16gigs of memory + cheaper than a current PSP make me want this if its true on the price.
SaanZ
@Archaotic: Would be pretty neat to actually see some proper connectivity with PSP-PS3 games for once (Resistance 2 paved the way...sorta).
Can't wait for PSP MGS! :D
I just want to know where he pulls the mic from.
And where to get those shorts.
@t3hVeG: Not at all, people in the homebrew community made their own second analogs, using the four face buttons mapped to the edges, and the corners being multiple button presses. It could work that way, because even if you think it wouldn't make a difference, using buttons for looking is pretty annoying.
@electroshockwave:
It doesn't have a UMD drive, which I would think is pretty significant, since you can't play traditional PSP games or watch UMD movies now.
@okenny :) ...building bridges (to hide under): That doesn't usually bother me too much but it might mess it up now and again. The rest looks fine to me though.
xxXX_Insanities_Birth_XXxx
God.... DAMMIT. IT LOOKS LIKE SHIT.
FUCK. When it Sony gonna do something right for once!??!!?!?!?!
@PatMan33: thats what i was wondering! doesnt sony know their success probably rides on that one missing nub!?
abort_user
@Go Go Gadget: Thugmunk: Wow! That's a butch in the making >_>
@Go Go Gadget: Thugmunk: Why does this exist...
@OMG! Why are we all going OMG!?: Exactly. As an optional version of the original PSP, this is pretty cool, but if they were telling me I HAD to buy a new version that played the same games, just for an extra analog stick and no other upgrades to the hard ware, I'd tell them to go to Hell! By not buying it, that is.
Knaaks
@notMordecai: agreed. its obvious they just slapped some leftover phone parts together. it looks so small and crappy. and i know wed heard there was no new analog nub but seeing its absence is much more disappointing.
abort_user
@Archaotic: I'm actaully hoping that the "Metal Gear Raiden" game is for the PSP and the Big Boss game is for the PS3. I want to play as legendary soldier on my HDTV. As far as the PSP Go is concerned I'm mostly just looking forward to carrying all of my PSP games at once without the hassle of UMDs.
Looks pretty badass, I guess It's time to get a PSP.
kagebutsu
@krssvr92: Maybe it'll have fat princess as an opening title!!
BITCHIN first the zunehd then the pspgo cannot wait g2 try to get the zunehd but i do want this is i can afford it.
Adrian Jackson
@Fadakar:
adding a 2nd analog stick would be a stupid move because games that would use the 2nd stick couldn't be playable on older PSP's, which would be a terrible move on Sony's part. Remember, this isn't a brand new PSP, only a new redesign.
@Archaotic: As long as nobody at Sony has a better plan then the "refrigerator analogy" then they're probably good.
god thats a terrible design, i hope that its just a prototype model. the one floating around on the internet by a fan was fantastic...
Any possibility it would also be a cell phone?
XD
leaving skype aside, of course
Mactheridon
@Mit: Yes, we did.
I will now Rule 34 every single character you have ever liked, ever.
It looks like shit
GoreyEnd
@TenP: I agree but the truth is if you're liking these announcement then whether it's announced a week early (like trico) or a day early like this then it's still good stuff that Sony is doing. Who cares if it's not announced at E3 so long as it's announced right?
xxXX_Insanities_Birth_XXxx
@RyderJ: Its about as much as the xbox 360 drive ;P
quyrean
It doesn't really look ergonomic.
@Haroon Piracha: Oh, thank you for being the ruler of all discussion on earth. Having such power to end debates with just your word. Once again, thank you wise one. I have been enlightened.
@offshore: Big time. The Metal Gear and Gran Turismo announcements are huge.
@Fadakar: 16GB built-in storage isn't so insane. I do agree wit the control issues however. All and all, this will probably be cheaper then the existing PSP... god knows it looks the part ;_;
@Tannrar: Storage of 10 games is perfectly enough to avoid hassle, expanding that would be more of a "luxury" in a more economical term. that is a very good amount of storage.
What may be a problem would be if new games are bigger...
Mactheridon
@Tannrar: Indeed it is more than 10 games. My 16gb (formatted to 15gb) has about 23 games with 1.5gb left over but it really depends on what games you have and their sizes.
@Mit: Note, though, in the video Koller refers to E3 in the future tense. "We're going to show it at E3". Why would they talk about Gran Turismo Portable in the future tense if this video were to go up AFTER their press conference?
@Fadakar: Your opinions very invalid If you haven't really held it in your hands ... yea thats the end of the discussion right there.
Haroon Piracha
@electroshockwave: Well I'm not quite as interested if it's just a small hardware revision then. Too bad cos I like the design so it having much better hardware would have made it awesome.
xxXX_Insanities_Birth_XXxx
@Coquiton:
Look slike they failed to take into account people's desires for a second nub.
more of a rebranding than an evolution imo - ah well.
+ Watch video
@BarbeQueQ: Treat her right, treat your mother right.
"Remember when you put down one mother, you're putting down mothers all over the world."

@JoshiiWah:
Trust me, most people find this thing shit.
waver_01
What happened to the aesthetic appeal of handhelds? The DS was pretty, the PSP was pretty, and this is just...why Sony? We all realize you're trying to be different, but there's a reason that kid sat alone at lunch.
seanjohnson01
I hope Kojima's teasing is not all for a PSP game. Did Sony just leak his announcment too?
Why are people complaining about the lack of a second analog nub/stick? It's NEVER going to happen with hardware redesign/revisions for the current generation PSP. Doing something stupid like that would only serve to fragment their userbase. The only chance of a second analog nub/stick will be when/if a PSP2 or whatever they call it is announced.
Samster
If they announce some way for us to rip our existing UMDs to the PSP Go! I'll be all over this.
And here I was thinking of finally buying a PSP... and they release a new one? Screw that x-x.. *sighs*
very ugly ...
Supa_S
@Tannrar:
Unfortunately, none of them are games you already own on UMD. It's a shame how the importance of backwards compatability at the start of this generation dissolved so quickly throughout it.
@Coquiton: Bigger Problem. NO DUAL ANALOG!
Lookin' good. If it doesn't cost an arm and a leg, I might buy one.
@OMG! Why are we all going OMG!?: I'm guessing it will carry the same visual tour de force as well >_>
I'm excited as hell, but I don't like the button layout. Hopefully this is a prototype or something.. doubt it, but you never know.
The directional pad looks horribly uncomfortable and just...bad
expansionsss
Once less exciting announcement for Sony to make on Tuesday, now its leaked. I have to admit, i don't like the design at all, which is unusual for Sony products, as they normally look fantastic.
Also the big metal gear tease for the past week or more was for a PSP game? I really hope not but should have seen it coming. :(
Still, the specs seem good. 16gb is pretty decent.
@SaanZ: But this won't have UMD.
OMG! Why are we all going OMG!?
@xxXX_Insanities_Birth_XXxx: I don't think the differences are significant enough to call it the PSP2, but it's also a much bigger change than there was between the PSP1000, 2000 & 3000 or DS, DS lite and DSi. PSP 1.5?
They should arrange for owners of USB titles to be able to download copies of games that they've purchased. If they don't have most of their games up for download immediately, they'll be encountering the same problem that they just recently overcame: a derth of games for their system.
Also, the customers who've already purchased a PSP are a pre-primed set; that is, they're assuredly more interested than the average member of the population in purchasing further Sony hardware. It doesn't help Sony roll these customers forward if they're disincentivizing them to purchase the new system.
Sony should be proud enough of each subsequent system that they definitely want each of their customers keeping up with the "Sony lifestyle".
@cyrax08: Yeah, I actually find the thing pretty ugly. It's not a fashion show I guess.
SadAstronaut
The design is a bit weird.
But this is good news for me because I've been wanting a PSP for awhile. The old ones will be going on sale for sure once this comes out.
MooglesInMyFace
@woons: This is not PSP2, so they can't piss off all the other PSP owners by adding such radical new hardware functionality.
OMG! Why are we all going OMG!?
Honestly, I hate this. As I sit and stare at the huge collection I've amassed over the years of gaming, (my 40+ snes game collection including earthbound, mega man X3 and FFIII, I've shelled out a good bit.)I see the death of physical media. I mean, I'm all for convenience but once support is discontinued for the psp, where the hell am I going to get these? Goodbye to boxart, manuals, artwork and other assorted goodies, hello to the mess that is the psn store for psp (don't got a ps3, so i can't vouch for how psn is on that, but I think the interface for the store on psp is just lazy and cumbersome). Aside from that, I don't want to have to re download a game every time I run out of space, 16 gigs could fit a solid 10+ games but I'll also shove my music movies etc on it, so space will dwindle.
Finally, that control placement looks real awkward, I hope that isn't the final design.
awesomemonster
@grantanamo: It looks fine other than possibly where you place your index fingers to stop grip it since it'd have to go behind the screen and I'm just wondering if it'll be comfortable that way. Other than that I do like the design a lot. I love that it has a screen almost the size of the rest of it since it slides up and that it can be slid down later to make it more compact when not in use. The controls all look fine enough from what I can tell too so my only gripe is with how I'd hold it.
xxXX_Insanities_Birth_XXxx
@Mechalon: I agree. Very uncomfortable spot to put the analog.
JoshiiWah
@Heliophage: There goes 50 KP, down the drain...
Malthius
@krssvr92: If you have nothing nice to say... ;_;
@xxXX_Insanities_Birth_XXxx: The start and pause button look awfully close to the face buttons.
I think it may also be touch screen with an accelerometer built in but they're probably not saying anything right now.
@JoshiiWah: Your not, it is.
cyrax08
@okenny :) ...building bridges (to hide under): Ha ha, sorry about that. I actually think it looks petty cool personally. And I'm sure I'll get one as well. :3
MARl0
Looks ugly and quite unconfortable..
Still, I'm interested.. if it's actually cheaper than the current PSP like some rumors were saying, and if Sony is able to put every game in the PSP library available to purchase online, I might get one. Hopefully this is still not the final product :P
@BarbeQueQ: It's not PSP2, that's why. Fucking over people who don't want to upgrade would be silly.
@shanrulez:
This could be part of an all around price drop.
If they made the UMD better I can see it happen..
SaanZ
@Black-Dog-Howls:
SHOULD have been, you mean.
I think they're doing it on purpose just to upset the internet.
woons
@Archaotic: That still won't stop anyone, everyone knows it. Took long enough but 3000's getting there.
Hella fugly!
D0RC
@Archaotic: When's the last time someone let something slip on purpose who wasn't Valve :P I doubt this is deliberate, especially since it was taken down so quickly.
Also, way to let Kojima's secret out of the bag too, Sony.
Someone at Sony must really like that deep, deep hole they keep digging for themselves. Brutally Ugly Misfire!
@Tannrar: It's enough so long as you can back up the files to your computer, and switch them around.
RyderJ
The analog nub placement isn't good. Overall it's not as elegant or modern as the original PSP. I'm surprised by how unrefined the design is for a Sony product (the circles, the frame around the screen). If the screen is smaller, it's going to be a tough sell for me.
@Saint Anima: Considering that the QORE episode is on the Playstation Store, on a day when PSN NEVER updates...
I'm betting on this being deliverate.
man alive that's ugly !
Sesshomaru
No second analog nub? Pass.
Delano_J
@Coquiton: I disagree, I think the circular look they have is very ugly. Kind of reminds me of the bulgy look of the DSfat.
cyrax08
Could they make the analog stick any more uncomfortable?
Well I guess this new design will attract new gamers to the PSP. Any core gamer with some sense will just go search for still on shelves. PSP 2000 and mod them.
@xxXX_Insanities_Birth_XXxx: I think it looks very comfortable to hold. My biggest gripe with the PSP was that the analogue nub made me contort my thumb down to the point it would get sore. Having it to the right oh the d-pad makes it look like an outstretched thumb would fit perfectly. I'm loving the design.
grantanamo
@XtRiT:
Your moms ugly and fat...Doesn't make me stop loving her either!
Sorry, I couldn't resist.
Respect mothers, kids!
BarbeQueQ
@MARl0: If you have nothing nice to say.... ;_;
That thing looks painful to play.
Mechalon
@Archaotic: They said it'll be cheaper than the PSP
Neat! I want one of those =( (and I just bought a 3000 few months back >_>)
I hope I'm not the only one who thinks this thing looks ugly as hell.
JoshiiWah
@Tannrar: It's gonna need a lot of gigs if it's all gonna be downloadable/online content.
16 gigs is defs plenty though.
CosmicElement
BONER!
This looks so damn good. I wonder, though, why they couldn't have added a second analog stick.
They could have just put the second one where the select and start buttons are and those could have been put over the two analog sticks.
BarbeQueQ
@Archaotic: Yep. Though it kinda sucks that it was leaked this early, it's still great news. Hopefully it won't be too expensive. Though I'm thinking that they will lower the price on the original models and then keep this at the $200 range.
i personally like the design, it looks more like a PMP now, and the reduction in size is exactly what i needed, now it con go in the same pocket as my phone.
any word on touch interface?
fortelv999
@PatMan33: In a close up shot, it's just more buttons placed in the same shape.
@Heliophage: So is this PSP 2 pretty much?
xxXX_Insanities_Birth_XXxx
Did I hear Gran Turismo, Jak and Daxter and METAL GEAR SOLID?!!!!
no second analog bohoho :(
@Fadakar: As far as Sony and developers are concerned, a system that's impossible to put CFW on is a GOOD thing.
hmm.. how long have i been waiting for gran turismo on the psp. lol hmm i could tell it was made anti homebrew
That analog stick looks kinda ugly...
@Tannrar: That's more than 10 games. Some really good PSP games are currently only around 300 megs!
MoeB
@krssvr92: Depending on how much room there is behind the screen to place the fingers then it might be uncomfortable as well. I doubt they'd be dumb enough to make it uncomfortable though.
xxXX_Insanities_Birth_XXxx
looks terrible imo
What were they thinking with the controls??
waver_01
@krssvr92:
My moms ugly and fat... Doesn't make me stop loving her >.<
Sounds pretty cool, but there is just somethings about the design that I don't like.
It's going to be very interesting to see how Sony dual-markets this with the PSP 3000. Another dual pillers (NDS + GBA) market anyone?
Nickolas Butler
No second analog, poor button placement, after being slid it's probably thin as hell and uncomfortable to use. Probably impossible to put CFW on. AAAAAAND, with 16GB of flash memory, I HIGHLY doubt that shit is cheap.
Check it out, you can see where the second analog nub COULD have been.
Black-Dog-Howls
PS3 Slim may apparently be confirmed here too.
OMG! Why are we all going OMG!?
@Mit: Could be deliberate. For all we know, Sony might have let this slip on purpose so their show can be ALL about the games and nothing else.
S-second analog stick???
PatMan33
My PSP and DS along with every game I own got stolen last year...I think I may pick this up so I can finish playing Final Fantasy Tactics and Syphon Filter, and continue Monster Hunter :D
This design is abysmal and I hope to god anyone who says they like it are not engineers no designers.
Ahh so this is where the new Metal Gear game is coming.
fishbonez
Man, did we, the internet, really have to ruin this too? :\ I guess Sony's the one that let it slip. Another big-impact announcement of next week spoiled.
Glad to see I was right about a new Metal Gear Solid Portable. I don't think we've seen the full extent of Kojima's announcements yet, though...
I fully expect this new PSP MGS and the next PS3 iteration (Metal Gear Raiden?) to have some sort of connectivity to help connect the two games.
I'm definitely going to buy one of these if the price is right though; I'm dying for a PSP I can actually put in my pocket, and this seems to be just that.
Ah... I was hoping to at least be credited for tipping you ;)
Amusing that it looks almost exactly like 1up's rendering of it that everyone thought looked terrible. >_>
MARl0
Man that looks kinda... ummm... yeah... yeah...
Woo hoo!!! I'm sure there'll be a ton more for launch. It's not like this is brand new news or anything.
I'm starting to feel a little bad for Sony here, all of their showstoppers are being leaked.
Sigh, looks like they're going to have a pretty predictable E3 again.
TenP
Hope nobody bet on the name being different in the Kotaku poll.
Someone at Sony is going to get fired...
FUCK YES OMG I AM SO EXCITED!!!
grantanamo
Wow, that's an awesome design. Looks like that one cool mockup picture was true after all!
Coquiton
looks kinda ugly and fat to me
krssvr92
@Tannrar: Not to mention it has an expandable memory stick slot, which means it's potentially even bigger.
16 GB is a pretty damn good size, actually. That's at least 10 games.
@Jackablade: Those tiny Asian fingers holding the thing comfortably are a little disconcerting too. I can't imagine it'll be very comfortable for your typical western man with fingers like Polish sausages.
Jackablade
No mention of the download only games? I thought that was one of the bullet points for this thing. Maybe horibly garbled video man says something about it.
Jackablade
They didn't add the second analog pad? Isn't that like...stupid?
I still think it looks like a slick piece of machinery, but I feel they just keep missing obvious opportunities to really make their stuff the best, like PS2 BC in PS3's.
Ryodestined
@Haroon Piracha: He's not trolling at all. He expressed himself rather bluntly, yes. But Fadakar's comment is a totally legitimate one.
He states his speculation on the machine based on what little evidence exists so far, and cites his reasons for making said speculation. That checks out with me.
By coming in and basically telling him, "shut up, you can't have an opinion," you're trolling more than he is. Pick your battles, pal. Time to move along.
@this story.
But, you know...it's The Consumerist. Seems like they've been hurting pretty bad ever since Gawker sold them.
@Heliophage: I thought about it, but decided against it. Hey, it could have went either way...
twinturbo2
@MARl0: I'll be sticking with my 3000, this looks horrible.
@Demonbird: The price between disc and download will probably be the same.
I forsee some games being "download only" though.
As for UMD games, I doubt it'll be playable on this. Not unless they decide to offer the entire back catalog of the PSP for download, in which case Im going to grab my skates and play some ice hockey in Hell.
@xxXX_Insanities_Birth_XXxx: nice one. When it's said like that it makes that type of statement seem so ridiculous.
Who cares when you find out this info?
I swear, I've done more facepalming today from people's comments...
@ToKeN2k6: 16GB is plenty. You don't need to keep all your games on there at once.
Kamakazie
@Haroon Piracha: You are a forum nazi.
@shanrulez: Why is this not on the front page?
@MechaTama31:
It doesn't make sense to add a second analog because they aren't discontinuing the 3000 model. Since both models will be available at the same time, it makes sense from both a production and development standpoint to have the same control system. In other words, the increased cost for both the hardware and development of multiple control systems doesn't make sense to the bottom line.
Furthermore, why would they rob themselves of a selling point for the next generation PSP?
I agree a second analog would be nice. I too am one of the people who would like to have one, but the Go is still just a PSP redesign, and was always expected to be light on new features.
@quyrean: Or way less?
@Tannrar: wow I can't believe you all are satisfied with 16gb, that is going to fill up faster than you think if you put movies on there. I hope they really update the Media Manager to make it easy to take games off and then put them back on there, along with saves, like a super sync feature. Alot of work has to be done...but I'll still get one day one, just like my one dead pixel lcd launch PSP.
ToKeN2k6
It's hideous...
elmorepow
@KidKardona:
He still failed to hack psp 3000, and psp2000 with TA88 though.
Dont expect high hope on this.
ye0073
@JAGJEET: God, I guess I'm the only one who LOVES the look of this thing. It's smaller than the DSi/lite when opened but with a MUCH nicer screen. It'll probably be awesome on battery life without the UMD drive. I like it a LOT. Gotta start saving.
nice, might pick one up. it's going to depend on the price tho. i just like the prospect of downloading games v. physically buying them a lot better, since they're probably going to have to make all games downloadable now. it just gets rid of so many problems.
@Roxas13th: So, um, he gave away Kojima's announcement? New MGS for the PSP GO? Also, Gran Turismo? It's about time.
I think it looks awesome. Don't imply that it's uncomfortable until you actually hold the fucking thing in your hands.
mmgg113
Bent thumb on that image is a good indicator of poor ergonomics. Enjoy your rsi.
bastel
with 16 gigs of memory. Dark Alex is gonna have a fuckton of fun with this.
KidKardona
@Agumen: That was supposed to be a PS3 Slim box.. at least it was when I posted it..damn photobucket! Sorry :(
@Rinaldus:
Um,,, with the mock up having the L and R Triggers on top part of system above screen in a painful and hard to reach spot with system open?!
are you sure...???
AlphaCananogram
Yeah, the "new system" rumor guy should get canned. This isn't a new fangled touch screen system or whatever, just a form factor upgrade, like DS Lite and DSi. It's nice but nowhere near approaching the ridiculous rumors. Like I said, if a rumor sounds like bullshit, it probably is.
krln99
lost the UMD drive not interested I don't want to have to download my games.
@Aflack: feels sick to his stomach: theres psp jak daxter coming for psp they announced it a few months back. thats first footage of it though
@Haroon Piracha: i'm really thinking there is a touch screen when you close the psp go. just my speculation.
xblindx
@TenP: touch screen and accelerometer on psp go hasnt been announced
xblindx
@TenP: Sony took it down pretty quickly too. The Qore episode (June 2009) just vanished from my download list...
@electroshockwave: Do we know it is UMD-less? I can't see it mentioned anywhere, and there's no good shot of the PSP Go itself.
LOL!!
In 2006, the fake leaked info about Nintendo's next gen release (Wii) was being called the Nintendo Go.
[www.engadget.com]
Of course, it would have made more sense to name Nintendo's 5th gen console "GO" (5 in Japanese) rather than Sony's new 7th gen gear.
godot
It looks like the hotter cousin of the N-Gage. Slimmer and sleeker, but also has that genetic retardation you try desperately to ignore when your up close and intimate with it.
Sooo, still no second analogue stick then?
Also 3d graphics on such a tiny screen is sheer eye murder. Especially if you're judging depth.
I think I'll stick to 2d on the DS for now.
@PatMan33:
yeah when I saw this I was thinking "so about that second analog?"
Still no second analogue stick...
That looks absolutely awful. Whoever designed it didn't do a very good job.
@Lemonade: I work at gamestation in UK, and were getting these kiosks where you put your UMD in and it puts it onto your memory stick.
I don't understand the point of this. It's essentially a gimped PSP. It does nothing new whatsoever from a game play standpoint and it lacks a UMD drive. Why would I want this? I could just take a screw driver to my current PSP's UMD drive and have the same thing.
I think this is going to fail and possibly be the final blow to Sony's handheld division. The only possible way I could see a UMD-less PSP succeeding is if it was a genuine PSP2, with a more advanced chipset that could play more advanced games.
It's suicide. Could you imagine if Nintendo made the DSi without a DS card slot? As stupid as that sounds, that is what sony is doing. They are intentionally breaking their product and then marketing it like it's something good.

@Heliophage:
It's not even about backwards compatibility in this case. The PSP GO is not a new system, it's the same hardware (CPU, etc) as current PSPs. It's not a generational leap, it's simply the same PSP we've always had in a new shell.
Essentially, what they are doing is no different from taking a PS3, ripping out the bluray drive and then selling it for more than the existing PS3. Without the trade up of new tech, and the ability to play more advanced games, why would I want to give up the UMD drive and the ability to play the dozens of PSP games I own?

@Tannrar:
i agree, 16 Gb + extra slot(if available)..but i'm worry about other media such as music, movies and pictures though??
Rasengan07
@Svend Joscelyne: Not that I don't agree with you on everything else, I just it's just you can't really advocate CFW as a lack of a selling point when it really wasn't one in the first place (aside from illegal use).
Svend Joscelyne
@Fadakar: I don't recall one useful thing being crafted from CFW.
There, I said it.
Svend Joscelyne
@MechaTama31: Yes, but you don't need a second analog nub. All you need are games that take better advantage of the buttons and form factor that the PSP has.
I don't remember many people complaining about the Game Boy Advance not having many buttons, especially considering the number of SNES ports that were pushed out for it.
Svend Joscelyne
@Slapmaster5000: So get a PSP 3000 instead then. They'll still be around. Thanks for playing.
Svend Joscelyne
@Maverick128: I'll admit; I'm not so enthused about the look of it, but it's growing on me. If it makes me able to use that analog nub easier than cramping my thumb down to a retarded position, then I'm all for it.
Svend Joscelyne
@get2sammyb: Any chance he could be referring to Metal Gear Solid PS1 classic? Is that not yet out on the US PSN store?
Svend Joscelyne
@Covert_Knight: Nah. Those mockup pictures were beyond terrible.
Svend Joscelyne
@SocraticMethod: I dunno, I tipped them etc but not interested :/
@Hardcore_Gamer: I highly doubt that. The PSP is practically dead here in America. Unless they start actually making games for the damned thing this new hardware won't do anything to improve sales.
Z33RO
@Spenze: thats d ifferent. Adding a 2nd analog nub would mean all future games would support it but not the back catalog and then there would be confusion. Wait for PSP2 and then judge sony if there is a 2nd analog or not
silentknome
@Zorantor: Not just Zorantor, but thanks everyone for getting my back on this one. Glad that I have e-friends somewhere in the depths of the web.
@lewis2112:
Can you confirm this in any way? I'm not saying you are lying, but it's possible the information you got was or wasn't true or was speculation and not confirmed.
If it's true that would be cool, I'd also like to know if those kiosks will be available in the US. Even so, I have around 30 games for the PSP, I assume it would take a while to copy them all in a store.
Hypernetic
it says "Go" but I think "No". Yeah, I went there.
Nice Sony. Use the screen to slide over and protect the controls. This would have been amazing as a clamshell.
And you know, second analog.
commathe
I'm worried about this 10-year life-cycle the guy mentions in the video. We may never get that dual-analog PSP...
J.Bourne
Crap I have to get one now...
Onyx-Ocelot
@sereal: You know, you can click reply on multiple people's comments to reply to them all in a single comment. It looks a bit neater that way.
@Heliophage: well rumor has it that SONY will provide the past PSP games for download for the psp go
Can't be bothered to filter through all 9 pages but here's an HD youtube link :)

@Svend Joscelyne: hackability was the selling point for me. CFW isn't only for illegal use. I'm stick of companies telling me what I can and can't do on a piece of hardware I own.
sereal
@Haroon Piracha: I hate people who say the internet when they really mean the world wide web.
sereal
@lars18th: Since when did the price of components have anything to do with the price of the unit?
sereal
@Archaotic: More so sony shareholders. Developers hardly care what you do with your hardware.
Now, developers who are also shareholders probably care ;)
sereal
@Rasengan07: because pictures take up alot of space

MEMORY STICK MICRO!!!! They ditched the unpopular, overpriced memory stick duo slot (yeah!) only to replace it with the one thing even more expensive and unpopular (boo!). Why not go with the rest of the planet and use SDHC or SDXC (to be really forward thinking)? This fetish for proprietary formats ("Anything you can do, we can do Beta!") is going to be Sony's undoing.

@Coquiton:
I agree with you man this is amazing looking I am gonna be buying this day one I can't wait for it.
gecko7jlk is enjoying the killzone 2 map pack
Only thing I want to know is if they have fixed that awful analog nub.
@sereal: You can decide to... you know... -not- own it. It's not like you're under any illusions that the PSP can't be CFW'd, so it's pretty ignorant to go "Well, I bought it now, so I DESERVE to do whatever the..." No. When you bought the product, you agreed to whatever terms of use or whatever document is enclosed inside it.
If you were that enraged that a PSP or a DS couldn't do what you wanted it to, you should have bought a Gamepark.

Look there's one. Go go go.
Svend Joscelyne
Boy, we got to have a lot of fashion designers amongst the commenteers.
I do not give a flying f**k if this thing looks like a troll head as long as it is multifunctional, easy to get into, has a good battery and gets a lot of games and support.
Looks pretty cool. Well if this is true, PS3 slim maybe? ooo!?

@Arttemis: Yeah, and I have a 4gig card. But it was morning and well, I wasn't thinking straight. o.O
