I prefer real deejaying, but I'm curious abou the gameplay.

That's definitely a step up from the three-button turntable. I mean, c'mon, how much do you want to dumb it down??? Any DJ game has got to have a moveable record platter and a crossfader AT LEAST! I like that Numark is the one making this too. Now that makes sense. If only the tracks were something bearable to listen to. Why not use Paul Oakenfold's greatest hits and remixes for source material (if you want something electronic and relatively poppy)? If it were up to me, I'd hire a crew of hot DJs and have them go crate digging for kickass house and drum'n'bass tracks that nobody's heard and have THAT be the soundtrack. Now THAT would be a DJ hero game with cred!

@All_hail_cale: Then I'm sorry, but your "real decks" and your mixer are crap. As they have reiterated by creating/licensing this peripheral, Numark makes *cheap toys,* not proper DJ equipment.

Get yourself some Technics 1200s. If you ever decide you don't want them any more, you can actually sell them for almost what you paid for them new, they retain their value and quality that well. Try that with your Numarks.

As for the mixer, I prefer Vestax, but geez, Rane, Allen & Heath, Pioneer, anything but a Numark (or American DJ). Even Gemini is better than Numark, and Gemini sucks!

P.S. Scratch and DJ Hero both look lame. But what do I know, I've just been mixing for ten years.

The switch on the mixer?? Its palcement means only 1 of 2 things.
Either, you can only use the fader or the buttons, or you have to use the buttons and the fader.. leaving the biggest part the table out of play.

Its a wonder why Tiesto turned away from it.....

You, sir, are misinformed. A competitive needle alone costs $70-$100 from Shure. So no, you can't even buy piece of shit 1s and 2s with the supposed price. We are not talking about Fisher Price or your moms and pops tables.

Scratch got it somewhat right, leaps and bounds over Hero, when it comes to a scratching game. It has the fundamentals with free rotating plate and a fader.

But just like Guitar Hero and Rockband, scratching will never be translated into a piece of gaming hardware as their are infinite variations of hand movement, gyration, pitch control, samples, tone, e.t.c.

This game will most likely not succeed as the instruments are hard to approach for the mass audience. When was the last time most parent's dropped 1s and 2s for your kid instead of a Wal Mart guitar and a clarinet?. The approach to an unfamiliar device can't help the sales.

@namesRhard: plastic keyboards with silicon inside, the Technics SL-1200MK2 Turntable was mostly made of steel hence "the wheels of steel". other than that and a mixer, drum machine, and some vinyl all you need is a pen and some paper. very little plastic used in Hip-Hop.

Ugh, that setlist does nothing for me. This is shaping up to be a mediocre idea on both sides. I had some minimal interest for Scratch given that they're using more realistic equipment and will probably do a better job on gameplay, but that tracklist sample just is a massive wet blanket for me.

I really wanted this to be a more electronic music based game. I mean, the game is serving to a specific genre, so there will be people who want and like this game, but it's very much not for me now and I'm just a bit let down because DJ Hero didn't look like something I wanted to play, despite it being musically closer to what I was looking for.

You know I remember when they tried Beatmania for PS2 outside of Japan and it failed miserably. I bought it, because I love Beatmania. Then again I'm also one of those rare people who has a full size Pop'n Music controller and a large selection of JP only Bemani games. I very much doubt either of these games will be as fun as Beatmania or as popular as Rock Band.

I both play the guitar and spin (for over 10 years too omg). What makes this game ridiculous is not that the game is invading any personal musical territory (especially because there is speculation that the game will be centered around hip/hop tracks rather than EDM), but rather that DJ'ing, or at least mixing, does not require much skill (scratching is obviously a completely different ball game). I can understand the draw for a game like Guitar Hero because people want to have the enjoyment of playing the instrument without putting in all the work of learning how to actually play. But let's face it, almost anybody can be taught to mix two records together in an hour or two. Scratching in just a little longer. Do we really need a video game simulation for this when the real thing isn't exactly rocket science?

Activision looked at the market for Guitar Hero and realized there are entire genres of music that are not represented at all in this game -- genres of music which, unfortunately, typically sell much better these days -- and concluded there needs to be a gap to fill this gap. It doesn't have to be particularly good, but it has to be enjoyable, even if it has nothing to do with real turntable/DJing/scratching, or likewise, even if the music does not match the need for the turntable controller. This is probably why the 50 cent game was dropped. Someone looked at the market and asked "50 cent has sold well in the past. Will it still sell well?" and realized the answer was no, and the game was subsequently dropped -- which is why I have some concerns about the pending release of the Ghostbusters game that I want to be oh so good.

@HueyFreeman: Surely this is why most of the hardcore dance game players gravitated toward ITG and stayed with it (through hacked machines) even after Supernova was released and Roxor was sued.

Konami will probably sue over this. They're were suing over RB and GH as well and I'm not sure if they've settled or not in either case. If they can stand to make some money and they have a patent on something so broad as a video-game version of an instrument (and knowing the US patent system, they do), they'll sue.

@taiki: I was just happy to see SNOW, Summer Vacation, and jelly kiss on the same mix. I remember some reviewer in either EGM or PSM complaining that wanted to see Sphere or some of the newer songs.

I really don't think they screwed it up, but it had no advertisement and a very no-frills interface, which put it at odds with Guitar Hero.
