Square Enix On Final Fantasy XIII: “Lord Knows… That’s Not True.”
Square Enix has still only provided a rough release date for Final Fantasy XIII: Summer 2009. At the company’s financial briefing, it was asked about the Final Fantasy XIII release.
Company honcho Yoichi Wada did stress that FFXIII sales were implied in the Square Enix financial forecasts. According to Japanese site Inside Games, when Wada was asked whether the PS3 version of Final Fantasy XIII will be released in this financial term, Wada reportedly replied, “Lord knows… That’s not true.” He then chuckled and added, “We’ll do our best!”
Seems like a rather off-handed remark, so we’re not sure how much to read into it. Though, Square Enix has had difficulty getting its big titles out on time…

@Pyrefly: I like FF games, and I would rather wait a long time for a good one than get a shitty one right now.
amarney
@Archaotic: NINTENDO DS! Hope someone listens this time. So many rpgs I can't even play them all. When ferrets do dungrolls.
@Shinta: MGS4 didn't seem to have any problems.
@Iskandr:
A year isnt too bad a wait
SaanZ
basically they are saying, its going to be exclusive to xbox 360. Just kidding.
@Xideo: Hey! I really loved FFXII!
mcderek3000
@Archaotic: I think Square Enix's problem with sales isn't the console, but the titles they put out. Outside of Final Fantasy, Kingdom Hearts and whatever related spinoffs of the two, they don't have any real massivesellers. On the other hand, they should learn to make their games properly. Want to market one of your games to Western audiences? Don't make it a fucking heavily Japanese influenced RPG. It only works for a few titles.
@Archaotic: Hey, I'm sure they'll release the demo at some point outside of Japan. I think you said this before, but they'll probably bundle it with a game no one cares about or something.
@FarmboyinJapan:
Thus, the day is saved.
Everyone knows that Sqeenix is just waiting for Duke Nukem to drop. They realize how massively Duke will alter our perception of all other games. Like Half-life on PCP. They have to wait so they can undercut the street date by a week, else FFXIII will never get play time.
@Archaotic: The fact you call it a "Star Trek ripoff" says a lot.
Captain Pigeon
@labbla: I don't mean to be rude to SE but really a big F you to Wada.
SE hasn't even published a decent game this gen let alone developed one. THey need to STFU and get it out becuase i am seriously losing interest in XIII due to the complete incompetance of this company.
I don't know whether they think FF is god or something and they can do whatever the fuck they like with it but if SE's attitude and stance on this carries forward for a long time i do believe they may actually end up alienating their hardcore base.
@Archaotic: Trust me, that's not even the most depressing part of SOTC.
But still, its still an awesome game.
First game (out of only three) that has ever made me cry.
The other two? MGS3 and Ico itself (I played Ico after SotC).
@NoaAltwynn:
FF13 is quickly becoming the Japanese Duke Nukem Forever, yes.
The demo was nice, but apparently we're not getting it released officially in the West, so it's just Square spitting in American gamers' (and PS3 owners') faces more and more. Bah.
@Archaotic: So, you're saying that they're taking a page from 3D Realms' playbook? Over-hype something as much as you can and then not deliver it in a timely manner?
At least FF13 has a demo, DNF never got that kind of love.
NoaAltwynn
@FreedomNova: Only if you're talking in Valve time.
@Archaotic: You gotta find something else to do if you've got no good games to play anymore, and you've played a lot. Maybe take up a sports league, jogging, more leisurely reading, etc?
@SituatedDread: Yeah, I hear ya. It was also Square's fault for not seeing this. The cost of development is so high for XIII that they will have to sell as many copies as possible. The 360 is typically easier to develop for, but starting late has delayed it, I'm sure.
Shinta
@CommentatorHatman: Thanks! That's the ass-hat I was looking for!
@Shinta: Imo, a flagship title like this would of made enough sales, but seeing the Killzone 2 sales do make me think otherwise. Idk, I just want the damn game, lol.
@Sir-Lucius:
At this point, Square doesn't deserve the hype anymore. They're pulling a fast one on the entire industry and they deserve to be punished for it.
Someone remind this guy what happened to the last company that said "it'll come out when it's ready."
Bricked
@SituatedDread: Well if Sony could sell enough on their own it would still be exclusive. You can blame Sony too.
Shinta
@FarmboyinJapan: I agree
Shinta
@KichiGuy: Can get Oblivion, Mass Effect, Infinite Undiscovery, Star Ocean, Fallout, Tales of Vesperia and Fable II before then also if you haven't. I don't understand everyone bitching about no RPGs, must be PS3-only owners. Oh yeah, and The Last Remnant.
Shinta
Not to sound biased, but I totally blame the 360 for the lag that Square is showing.
@Archaotic: It depends. Some songs you think would be incredibly dense turn out to be just the right amount of challenging, while other songs that seem simple turn out to be a wall of colored blocks. And it does suck that it's PC only right now. Hopefully it'll bring in some more cash so the devs can bring out a Mac version.
And excellent point about XIII. I honeslty don't even know why I bother to follow news on the game anymore. I'm going to buy it day 1 regardless.
Sir-Lucius
@大漢ä¸:
We shall see. This is definitely my last generation though.
@aspasticninja:
You mean that Star Trek ripoff with a lousy battle system, dozens of meaningless sidequests on identical planets, only one or two likeable characters, and a 10-hour main storyline?
Yeah, not diggin' it. :P
@Archaotic:
Time for a new hobby?
@Archaotic: you know what's a good RPG?
Mass Effect
C-C-C-C-Combo Breaker!
@FreedomNova: He might be right about April, the end of March is the end of a fiscal year for companies. If FF13 is running as late as I suspect, then they have to change their forecasts and release dates so the stock holders don't go crazy about not meeting or exceeding sales. Nevermind, I can't quite explain it.
AlucardsQuest
@Yowza57: That's how I do it, really. Just.. whatever. It'll be out when it gets out. Until then, I look at screen shots when they're posted, think 'looks kinda neat', then promptly forget all about it.
ShDragon
@Sir-Lucius:
I enjoyed the demo quite a bit. But don't bother getting excited if the game's not going to be here for over a year. It wasn't earth-shattering, just a decent FF battle system and a major improvement over 12.
I bet ya Fan subbing would make an english version faster then the official release :)
Yushiamo
@CommentatorHatman:
I sure as hell hope not.
@Archaotic: Also how was the demo? Is it even worth getting excited over XIII given that I was "meh" on gameplay for XII?
Sir-Lucius
@Sir-Lucius:
When they make a Mac version, I'd be glad to. I've always marvelled at how horrifying the custom BeatMania tracks built off of SaGa Frontier Battle #5 have been.
I can only assume the Audiosurf version would be just as horrifying.
God spoke to me.
He laughed.
The end.
@Archaotic:
Get a ds, the RPG's are rolling in!
GtheMVP99
@Archaotic: Audiosurf, do it. As long as you are confident that you don't like shit music, that game pays for itself in strides, and is the perfect "Idon'thaveanythingtoplayrightnao..." kinda game.
Sir-Lucius
@Tenchuu:
No wonder Tri-Ace jumped ship to Sega. Seriously, when SEGA is your savior, you know there's something seriously wrong.
@Spike-Strife:
Already rented Fallout 3 back when it first came out (pre-Trophies, even!), and it just feels like Oblivion in another skin, even WITH VATS. Not a fan of RPGs without dialogue or character development. Just not my kind of game.
@Alex_Mexico:
I've avoided it because I know it's just going to depress me. Killing the Colossi is just wrong. =/
It never IS coming out is it? :(
yanipheonu
I wouldn't be too worried...I think he was just poking fun at all the problems that Square has had with getting this game out the door.
I too took a peek at the Japanese text...and I derived that he was joking at the whole thing.
He said 'God only knows' with regards to the release date, and then said that 'it wasn't true' (uso desu).
From all my experiences over here, it seems that this type of joking is quite common...say something totally outlandish, something to get people's attention, and then quickly follow it with 'uso desu' (its a lie / thats not true)
So I think the 'its a lie / thats not true' part of his statement was with regards to the 'God only knows' part, not the 'Winter 2009' part.
While I wouldn't be the least bit surprised if FF13 did indeed miss its proposed Winter 2009 release date, I think this joke is a little bit of a red herring.
FarmboyinJapan
@Alex_Mexico: I was joking about the "I respected you" haha.
I wasnt joking, though, on the "you must play SOTC asap" thing.
@Archaotic: Dude, I respected you and always seem to think exactly like me.... but what did you just say?
You have yet to play SOTC? What the hell are you doing posting in Kotaku? Go play SOTC YESTERDAY! Why do you have to wait for a formal TRICO announcement we all know is coming soon.
GO GO now, you owe it to yourself.
@Archaotic: Not if Wada starts sticking his nose in Nomura's business.
Tenchuu
@Archaotic: Nah. At this rate, Versus XIII will jump ship and take longer. Also, since Square Enix fans are having the worst luck, DQIX is delayed one more time.
Japan will then go into a riot, and the letters of the Square Enix logo will start to slowly wither away.
@Str8_Jihadin: When pigs fly!!! Oh wait...
bloggerX
@Archaotic:
Fallout 3 can kill about 100 hours...
@okenny :) ...building bridges (to hide under): Do you mean Georges Broussard?
@Skullabrineâ„¢:
Yeah, I think he's talking about their fiscal year. What does Square Enix use for their fiscal year?
@Archaotic: And it'll suck even more once FFXIII is released.
@labbla: Did you miss the subtitle for the game? "Final Fantasy XIII Fabula Nova Crystallis Forever."
I guess it was just lost in translation.
cartman1uy
@Tzion:
I'm a fan of FF and Haruhi. Needless to say this has not been a good years so far
@Revenge_of_Nekojin: Archaotic owns both the Xbox and a PS3.
He has praised countless times Lost Odyssey. A single console owner wouldnt do that, dude.
@salmonellaboy:
Of course we are.
@Craig-VN-Gossman: when was the last time we've heard an update on GT5? I'm convinced it will never be released.
@FreedomNova:
Nah, I'm thinking... April?
Rokashi
when Wada was asked whether the PS3 version of Final Fantasy XIII will be released in this financial term, Wada reportedly replied, "Lord knows... That's not true." He then chuckled and added, "We'll do our best!"
Maybe I need to get to sleep, but should I take that to mean this financial year? Term sounds more like a portion of the year to me..
Either way, SE had best release XIII in Japan as soon as they can, so we can get the game before 2011.
Wait, I thought this was referring to the European port... so this means no Winter 2009 for Japan? What is the world coming to?
authorityzro
@Hellicus:
It's easily the best RPG of this generation, though it pales in comparison to the best of last gen, the PS1 era, or the SNES era.
But seeing as we won't be seeing FF13 until the Rapture hits, I guess it's the best we're gonna have for a while. Sigh. Being an RPG fan sucks so damn much this gen.
Imperial Hot
Please Square,
make the World a favor and don't release the damn game.
Thank you!
@Archaotic: I just bought Lost Odyssey about a month ago. But I'm committed to finish The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion before..
I haven't even opened tLO yet...
I'm glad that you enjoyed it, though.
@Skullabrineâ„¢:
Having had every system out there for a while now, I've played everything that's already released that I have any interest in playing, save for Shadow of the Colossus, which I'm likely going to start playing as soon as Trico is formally announced.
Past that, I'm not looking forward to all that much. inFamous, Uncharted 2, Trico, God of War 3, Devil May Cry 5, and then a bunch of Square games that will likely never be released.
I just find it hard to play old stuff these days when I have to spend all of my time focusing on the now.
It's Duke Nukem Forever all over again!
I just ordered Lost Odyssey and FF4 DS...I guess that'll hold me over until I can finally play FF13 in 2010. Now, I just have to avoid dying, and I can enjoy Square's masterpiece.
@Archaotic: Okay.. but does this mean you've basically moved on from every old/released game already? Or you're pretty sure you will have done so?
Don't get me wrong, I'm waiting for XIII and Versus as well, but I spend a lot of time playing games that were released in 07 or earlier. Maybe that's strange..
@Donutta: You're really not missing much there.It's probably fate telling you not to play it.
@Megaman LXIX: YES!
sinister6000
@supo: Whoa there remakes? Man that would take years JUST for that idea to penetrate their thick skulls never mind actually start making the game!
Is FF13 to become the Japanese Duke Nukem Forever?

@FP_slomo788:
I'm assuming lol = lots of love?
pssh fanbois ...
@Archaotic: Hey wait just a minute! You take that back! What the hell do you mean by a troll like that?!!! Seriously... Konami used as your benchmark of failure? Really?! This is the FUCKING(!) company that bought you Rock Revolution for crying out loud! Please just refrain from posting until you actually have some crustructive words to say... hater!
@Islandkiwi: we screwd :'(
@Skullabrineâ„¢:
Aside from inFamous, Uncharted 2, and a few PSP games? Not really. I'm not too big on the whole "shooter" gig, and that seems to be all there is this gen.
Hopefully Resonance of Fate and Last Rebellion are decent.
@Islandkiwi: Why don't we send that letter to a post office...
off chance some people might actually make that happen?
@Archaotic: Man I don't think I've ever seen you this pissed off before!
So this must really suck for EU then, 2011 I'm guessin?
Bubbleman!
@Archaotic: Do you have nothing else to play in the meantime? >.>
@Archaotic: All they have to do is remake FF7/FF8/FF9 and they will be golden for a while :p

@dagamer34: Like Motion Plus and Wii Sports Resort?
"when it's done"
at this point i don't care how long it takes, it just better be good i.e. worth it i.e. better take me back to my youth days when ff7 changed my life...i want at least a glimpse of that joy i had when i was younger at least once in my adult life haha
stryder19
@salmonellaboy: 2010? Lord knows... that's not true.
@Yowza57: We should. Then we can pretend it's a big surprise when the game actually gets released. At the rate they're going FFXIV will come out first.
Sir-Lucius
@Revenge_of_Nekojin:
Yeah, I have all three systems, and playing Star Ocean 4 for more than 5 hours made me want to tear my ears off with a cheese grater, then rip my eyes out with salad forks and eat them. I will never forgive Tri-Ace for what they did to that franchise with SO3 and SO4.
Lost Odyssey is fucking amazing though, and people who have yet to play it are stupid and deserve a punch in the stomach. It's not the most innovative RPG ever, nor does it break new ground in any meaningful ways, but the way it DOES win is in characterization, which most RPGs, both Western AND Japanese, are so damn lacking in these days. Jansen is my hero.
Square should open a new internal studio headed by the guy from 3DRealms (name escapes me) heading the core of the Polyphony Digital and have them do a Hi-def remake of FF7... it should be out before Christmas, this year :)
@Revenge_of_Nekojin: Which is of course a misdiagnosis, since you mentioned Lost Odyssey. >_> Sorry, I spend way too much time on GameFAQs.
@Archaotic: I played SO4 and enjoyed it immensely. Demon's Souls, on the other hand, was a huge letdown.
Sounds like you have 'single console owner syndrome'.
@okenny :) ...building bridges (to hide under):
In these tough economic times, Square should concentrate on releasing some fucking games on systems where they might actually sell.
Maybe then their market and mindshare wouldn't be dwindling smaller than friggin' Konami's, and they'd be making money.
Clearly that's too difficult for him to understand, though.
@Crosswayboy: Does it matter? Millions of fans will snap it up regardless, same as usual. Rinse. Repeat.
Square: Behold! Our power is great.
World: meh.
@Archaotic: In these tough economic times, *jack-off gesture* blah blaah blaaah... *jack-off gesture* blah blaah blaaah... *jack-off gesture* blah blaah blaaah... *jack-off gesture* blah blaah blaaah... *jack-off gesture* blah blaah blaaah... *jack-off gesture* blah blaah blaaah... *jack-off gesture* blah blaah blaaah... *jack-off gesture* blah blaah blaaah... *jack-off gesture* blah blaah blaaah... *jack-off gesture* blah blaah blaaah... *jack-off gesture* blah blaah blaaah... *jack-off gesture* blah blaah blaaah... *jack-off gesture* blah blaah blaaah... *jack-off gesture* blah blaah blaaah... so you should be more understanding O_o
@MuteWinter:
Or he could play Demon's Souls, which is probably the best RPG this generation alongside Lost Odyssey.
Nobody should EVER play Star Ocean 4.
@Bisu: Why don't you play Lost Odyssey, or Star Ocean 4 then..
No wai-
Lol, kust kidding, ps3 has some nice SRPG you know? like disgaea! Or you could play eternal sonata if you didn't already!
Or mybe a nice fantasy setting action game, like Folklore!
@Yaxnzax:
Yep. I would rather they not bother showing screenshots or videos when the damn game is 4 years away from release. (Also looks at Resident Evil 5).
Personally, I wish they'd adopt the Nintendo approach of not announcing something until it's got a release date with a season/month attached to it. Anything sooner is just needless suffering.
@Saint Anima:
All that's left is to pray Nomura keeps it exclusive so a port doesn't delay it another fucking year.
@Archaotic: if wada gets kicked down one day.. or kicks the bucket.. that will give me hope in square once again..
Arc-
At this rate, Versus XIII will be out before this one.
Please? :(
@Str8_Jihadin: God says it will release the same day as Duke Nukem Forever.
Proving that either God is truly all knowing, or that God does indeed have a sense of humor.
Islandkiwi
I just really hope they don't rush it out letting the final product feel incomplete. I will cry.
I can wait until the end of next year even, if it means they deliver with quality. (But I definitely DO NOT WANT TO, SQEX!)
I know it sounds strange, but, for me, the longer this game takes to come out the better. You see, I've been trying to cut back on the amount I spend on video games, especially as I have at least four or five titles that I haven't even gotten halfway through. I promised myself that I wouldn't buy a new game until I have finished everything I already own, and delays like this gives me more time to do that. I mean, hell, I haven't even started Final Fantasy XII yet... :(
Wada as a CEO of SE. must step down from this company.
Because of him, SE becomes a lousy game company.
ye0073
Is Square competing with Kadokawa over who can alienate the most fans? Honestly...
horray! same with GT5, hmm maybe they'll have a pre-view for that...
Craig-VN-Gossman
All I'll say is I hope it's better than the snoozefest of a demo.
*facepalm* I have officially lost any faith I had left in Square Enix. Congratulations, Yoichi Wada, in just five years you've managed to single-handedly destroy my childhood idol. Nice work.
Imperial Hot, my ass.
You have got to be freaking kidding me. I need some hero developer to feed my RPG hunger. Thank god for Valkyria Chronicles. But I've already beat it 2 times...
Bisu
FFXII syndrome. Next time around, they really should just not announce the thing until it's nearing gold.
Yaxnzax
:'(
lol
As long as they do their best on the translation.
I hope they include separate subtitles for the Japanese audio track too, I hate when the words only match the English track.
Im just gonna pretend this game was never announced.....
Yowza57
Dear God,
When is FFXIII coming out?
Thanks!
@salmonellaboy:
Unfortunately yes :(
Yowza57
So basically what they are trying to say is that no one will ever play Final Fantasy XIII.
2010 then. It's not a problem, is it, SE fans? You're used to that, right?
So that means we'll see it by March then? K, gotcha.
@doubtful: It's easier when you've worked on games that aren't finished and can appreciate what happens in those final months of bug fixing and polish. Trust me, it's for the best!
@Archaotic: Honestly, I don't think the titles bombed because they were on the 360, I think the titles bombed because they were shitty tri-Ace titles.
@Yowza57:
What game? ;)
@salmonellaboy: yup,
and I'd much rather wait for a for a hard working chef to spend his time making some legit cuisine out of FRESH ingredients, than rush and get a lunch lady slopping the same shit from yesterday on a styrofoam plate.
This game is REALLY gonna move PS4s!
kNZA
@Chinpokomon: But the way this blog entry was made, it's as though as Yoichi is saying the game will be released in next financial year or later. NOT this financial year.
This translation needs to be fix or else more readers will get the false impression.
DAS
@AlucardsQuest: Companies can be on whatever fiscal year they would like, so long as it's declared. Many companies align their fiscal year with the calendar year, many offset it by a month, and many are 6 months offset.
It doesn't take much these days to predict that an FF game is 'running late'. Of course, this will result in changing their financial forecast in order to set shareholder expectations of Earnings Per Share (EPS).
In the video game business, changing forecasts due to a delayed game isn't that huge of a deal, especially when your company is known to do so and deliver solid titles.
@Chaosrayne:
Yep, the fact that SO4 sold under 50k in the US is startling. Even Infinite Undiscovery and Last Remnant did better than that, and both of them scored WORSE in a lot of magazines despite coming out in more crowded release windows. It's unbelievable that Square is still putting all of their focus on 360 after three bombs in a row. You'd think they'd swallow their pride and at least announce a PS3 game then not delay it infinitely or cancel it by now. But I guess that's too much for Wada to comprehend.
BlazBlue WILL be awesome when it comes out next month though, I have no doubt of that. It's just not an RPG, and the industry sorely needs some of those.
@DAS:
Yes, that's exactly the way I read it.
I also confirmed that ä»ŠæœŸä¸ definitely means Japanese fiscal year, so....wow, I wouldn't be suprised if it doesn't come out in 2009 :(
Chinpokomon
@Captain Pigeon:
That's really pretty much what it is. It's the Star Trek to KotOR's Star Wars. With a much worse battle system. It was a step down in every conceivable way from KotOR, even KotOR 2. Western shooter fans just give it a free pass because it involves guns and lets them feel tough.
@Badmofo:
DS RPGs don't do it for me. It's like playing an RPG on the Game.Com. I use my DS almost solely for the Ace Attorney series, Castlevania games and Nintendo first party titles.
GUYS!!!! the translation is WRONG!!!!
He said "Only god knows... Kidding!(laugh). but we'll do our best (to release it within this fiscal year (march 31 2009 - april 1 2010)"
Can anyone clarify the article's translation?
DAS
Why is people still moaning about FFXIII's release date? It's already been announced that it will be released in Winter 2009 (which would be some time between November and December) in Japan.
Sure, it's gonna be released in 2010 in here, but so is GT5, which had a Demo out at the launch of the PS3.
arahman56
@InconspicuouslyConspicuous: or LOL = LAUGHING OUT LOUD.
arahman56
"On time"? If by "on time" you mean according to peoples' unrealistic expectations, then sure. We've known for ages that Final Fantasy XII was delayed due to problems during development and that this caused FFXIII to be moved from the PS2 to the PS3. We've known this for years. Why do people still act surprised that FFXIII is coming out late this year/early next year? You're acting like this news has just been announced.
Sorry, but I find it hard to be shocked over something like this. It's called patience. Few gamers these days seem to have that, though.
Correct me if I am wrong, BUT i like to clarify on the translation. Didn't he said "Only god knows... Kidding!(laugh). but we'll do our best (to release it within this fiscal year (march 31 2009 - april 1 2010)"
HELL, this doesn't even state the game will be delayed or anything!!!
Can anyone clarify this!?
DAS
@DAS: correction! SQ uses April 1 - March 31 fiscal year.
BUT i like to clarify on the translation. Either bashcraft translated incorrectly or what, but he said "Only god knows... Kidding!(laugh). but we'll do our best (to release it within this fiscal year (march 31 2009 - april 1 2010)"
HELL, this doesn't even state the game will be delayed or anything!!!
DAS
@Alex_Mexico: Everybody says that...I played up till the 4th Colossus but the entire lack of dialogue & story made me put it down. I just couldn't invest in the game, when it seemed like I would finish it, and it would show me some credits. It's weird, because I don't play games for their endings, and I did enjoy killing the first few colossi, but in the end I just didn't love the game.
samwise227
@Archaotic:
I do agree with you; Square hocking RPG after RPG to the western shooter console seemed like a crazy move when they first announced it, and I was right; their trio of Infinite Undiscovery, Last Remnant, and Star Ocean, all bombed in the West.
Even Star Ocean. I know the SO games don't exactly age that well, but come on, it's freaking Star Ocean. The other two can be at least blamed on being new IPs that don't exactly resonate with a sequel-heavy industry.
Here's the kicker - I fully expect FFXIII to not sell all that well on the Xbox when it does come out in, say, 2013. It hasn't got enough zombies or shootan.
I would also put in a vote for BlazBlue if fighting games are your thing. It won't displace the king of kings from the slot (Street Fighter 4) but it looks decent.
And it looks like both Prototype and InFamous will be worth looking into soon enough...
@Skullabrineâ„¢: Yea, and isn't THIS fiscal year ends in about a month (end of June)? In that case, it's impossible to release it in THIS fiscal year. NEXT fiscal year (2009 June - 2010 June) however is the time when they will/plan to release it?
Is it just me or is everybody here fooled into thinking this fiscal year = this year?
DAS
@Pyrefly: Nah, they published Space Invaders Extreme and The World Ends With You. They were both super awesome. Maybe you mean console games thing gen?
So is Square Enix out of Gum?
Final Fantasy 13 Forever?
so what's the problem? really? it takes time to make a good game, that's all. even blizzard is doing the same thing as square. slowly but surely. in fact, blizzard, who's had more gameplay demo showcase for both d3 and sc2, couldn't even give a date estimate in comparison to the footage measly ff13. just be patient, i'd rather have a master piece than that frame glitch abundant x360 version of last remnant. speaking of which, is the pc version smooth?
sludge13
Has anyone asked whether or not it will be released this generation?
Rockabully
@UberScytheLord:
I don't hate it, per se. But it's a massive disappointment and a huge step down compared to KotOR. I guess it's hard to live up to that masterpiece, though.
I'd rather have a late release than a half-assed version requiring patches to function. :| People need to be patient else they'll get a glitch-fest that really would ruin the game for everyone involved.
-Age
@CommentatorHatman:
I think it was a combination of the two.
Its not fair to say that the 360 doesn't have RPG fans, it does. It just seems that doesn't span into JRPGs quite as much, which is predominately what SE deals in. So, it seems to be a very poor business plan to cater to a console that lacks your main fanbase.
Now, I remember seeing a post on another article about Square making a move before, from Nintendo to Sony. While this is obviously true, its very different than trying to bring the main fanbase to the 360. Nintendo and Sony are both Japanese companies, which softens the change and, at the time of the move Sony and Nintendo were trying to work together.
@Archaotic:
Wasn't really impressed with Fallout 3. Yes, it looked nice, but the combat and VATS were terrible. The lack of character development sucks as well.
SotC is a great game. I've only taken down a few so far, but the battles are epic. I need to get back to it, so I can see how it ends. Just wish I had Ico as well.
@Archaotic: Wait, you hated Mass Effect too? I thought I was the only one! hoorah!
@samwise227: off topic much ? :P
@Phantom6612:
Wrex was really the only character in Mass Effect I liked. He was the only one who had that old-school BioWare "feel" to him, y'know what I mean? He felt like a character. Everyone else just felt like a reject from a bad Star Trek fanfic.
Lost Odyssey is a tough nut to crack. As someone who truly enjoys characterization, I liked the game a lot, though it had its flaws (the kids, mostly). The game picks up a lot on Disc 2 though, as it finishes introducing everyone and the story moves on at its own pace.
Truly though, the Dreams were the best part of the game. Just wow.
I don't care how long it takes, just as long as it's actually good when it comes out.

@CommentatorHatman:
Their sales were low due to exclusivity as well as quality. Last Remnant wasn't a Tri-Ace game and it did better than SO4, but not that much. If it had been multiplatform like it was supposed to be, the sales would've been a lot higher.
@Archaotic:
Yeah, Mass Effect certainly had its problems. While the quests and planets were disappointing, it was the unappealing characters that bothered me the most. After really liking the characters in KotOR, most of the characters in ME were a huge letdown--especially Shepard, whom I couldn't stand.
Lost Odyssey though, I didn't find it anywhere near "fucking amazing". I just couldn't stand the game. I didn't find the characters or story very interesting. And how the battle system came off didn't work for me; I enjoy turn based battle, but for some reason I wasn't feeling it with that game. Couldn't get through the first disc.
I do agree, though, as and RPG fan, that this has been a rough gen so far.
heh heh heh heh heh heh

OH SWEET JEEBUS! It is like an auction of release dates, it gets further and further away.
@DAS:
I agree with you on this one.

Well, I, for one, was laughing at Sukueni being the short of Square Enix. As in "SquEni". I don't know about you... >_>

Worst part about this is that he wasn't even humble about it like most japanese people would... that is I don't like Wada. He just laughs like 3D Realms would... damn Americans.
