Square Enix Seems Optimistic About This Year
With the announcement of its 2009 fiscal financials, Square Enix stock prices jumped to the highest they have been since 2003. Thank you Eidos acquisition.
Square Enix company stated Eidos titles like Batman and Kane and Lynch 2 are expected to be million sellers. Overseas sales are expected increase significantly as well.
Taito, another Square Enix possession, will see the opening of 10 to 20 new arcades — suggesting that the game centre business is not as bad as previously thought.
Square Enix also assured folks that Dragon Quest IX is on track for July. After that game is released, the emphasis, Square Enix pointed out, would be getting Final Fantasy XIII out the door by the end of this calender year.

@Megaman LXIX:
I though they where shooting to for a JP/NA simutainius release date. did that change.
@MooglesInMyFace: So I guess they meant it quite literally, then, right?
@Machzy: Only course you hated it everyone who liked it should also miss on this game.
Ts ts ts, sad, sad person you are. The way of social gamer to learn you have.
To bes serios: if you don't like it don't buy it. It's so easy!
@RedundantInsomniac: You mean totally overhyped?
Man, I really do wish that they let that Chrono Trigger sequel slide....I really hated Chrono Cross.....
Machzy
@Megaman LXIX:
My guess would be autumn 2010 for NA and spring 2011 for Europe.
Winter 2009 for Japan, right? So that makes it winter 2010 or 2011 for North America?
@Azwethinkweiz12:
Just imagine how much Kane & Lynch 2 would sell if they called it Kane & Sephiroth. Head asplodes.
@Tye-The-Czar: I'm sensing some major butthurt.
There's a difference between mods for a games, like translation patches for example, and projects that use the sprites to tell an entirely new story.
Of course, realizing that would give you less reason to whine, so feel free to continue ignoring reason.
@Tye-The-Czar: Yeah, take that faceless evil corporation! Suffer the fury of my righteous indignation as I take a bold stand by only buying your games second hand!
Hopefully, their estimates are incorrect. I personally want to see S-E tank.

Pop in the name Dragon Quest or Final Fantasy, and it'll sell millions.
@MyLittlePwny: Agreed, the first one, whilst lacking in some areas, really wasn't that bad for a new IP, and certain elements I really enjoyed.
@Tye-The-Czar: Your loss.
Valnen
@MooglesInMyFace: Well this is Squeenix. They're pretty likely to "protect" anything they have by doing all of the stuff mentioned in the first comment. You all forgot about their atrocities done to Crimson Echoes already? This is why I've officially boycotted buying their stuff new.
Tye-The-Czar
@NewYork214: You didn't finish it. I remember that you tried really hard, but you eventually tore the disc out of your console, puked all over it, shoved it in a sealed box so that the enzymes from your vomit would devour the plastic, then you removed what was left and performed 13 curses on it for 13 consecutive moons, after which you flushed the remains down the toilet, immediately followed by the feces you'd been stockpiling during all that time.
Man, let me tell you, it was disturbing. Please don't buy Kane & Lynch 2.
@Valnen:
Um there are better ways to go around it. Micrsoft and EA have great rules for using their game assets for Mods and machinimas.
MooglesInMyFace
@Artdeux:
the first one sold over a million copies fairly quickly.
MooglesInMyFace
@Tye-The-Czar: They have to protect their IP's or they lose the rights to them.
Valnen
Kane & Lynch 2?
I'm glad they're working on that. I had a blast playing that game split screen. That and ARMY of 2. They were not huge blockbusters, but I had fun with it and that's what games are for, FUN. They don't all have to be FF_, GOW, MGS4, GTA4, GoW, HALO...
It would be a sad place if they all were.
RedundantInsomniac
"We're optimistic about alienating all of our fans by threatening to sue anybody who creates a work that pays homage to any of our franchises. Now that we also own Eidos, we can go after anybody who makes mods for their games! HOORAY! HERE WE COME, TEAM BEHIND THE NAMELESS MOD!"
Tye-The-Czar
so kane and lynch 2 confirmed? Cool.
@Artdeux: IIRC K&L did sell a decent amount. I personally liked the game up until the last chapter or 2. If the game was a bit more polished it would've been awesome.
The bank heist, club, and skyscraper levels were a lot of fun, and the MP mode was great, especially when you had friends playing right next to you.
@twistedmetalgear:
More like July Famitsu or Media Create.
Fainaru
@Artdeux: The first one has sold 1.7m
Fainaru
july npd's are in; squarenix seems pleased....[insert evil villain pic here]

Let's see DQ and FF in the same year. Are they having a money contest with Nintendo this year?
i wonder if Eidos games will have better production values now. if nothing changes for Eidos i think both companies will have problems... well.... final fantasy will keep Square-Enix afloat for a long time
@Artdeux:
if i am remembering correctly the first sold a shitload even with the shit reviews. i hated that game. cant even remember if i finished it.
Well done Imperial Hot....well done.
I started to question why, then I saw the words "Dragon Quest", and knew they'd make a buttload of money this year.
"and Kane and Lynch 2 are expected to be million sellers."
:|
Yeah, sure.
@Antiterra: K&L doesn't deserve that much attention.
@Machzy: Really? I loved Cross, it was different from Trigger and I liked the music and art style.
I was interested in Crimson too, although I didn't think the dialogue was that great. Although it was a nice attempt.
@Tye-The-Czar: That's sounds like a personal problem.
As I recall Crimson Echoes was a rom-hack, which in whatever label-fanart-excuse it's illegal. (Which they DID admit in their readme)
Plus pointing another company saying, "Well they let people mod stuff!" doesn't help. There are games that encourages user created contents and mods, but Chrono Trigger isn't one of them.
@Machzy:
Come on! While not as good as the original it was pretty classic. (Of course I didn't play the original until years later so who am I to judge.)
If they bought another large company, I wonder what would happen to their stocks?
And @direxnipe: I agree - it would be really nice to see Eidos games get that extra bit of polish. In the past, seems like there have often been fairly substantial bug issues with the bulk of their games.
I wonder if us PS3 owners will get any of these games?
@MasterNinja: Are you sure? A WHOLE buttload? That seems a bit optimistic. I'm guessing half a buttload, at the most.
@Akisazame: There's no difference at all. Personally, I don't care. I still intend to buy every SE game I'm interested in, and I don't think less of SE because of what they did. I just find your argument ridiculous.
@Tye-The-Czar: I went to video games live yesterday. Turns out that Square-Enix doesn't allow the VGL people to show game/footage or clips from the FF series while they play the music. Whats up with that? First they screw all of their Japanese fans by not releasing any of their games on the PS3, then they can a long awaited Chrono mod days before its release. Square Enix has lost all of my financial support. They need to start bettering their companies image going forward. As I'm sure I'm not the only person who feels this way.
