The Fastest Selling Game In Australia Is…

Wii Fit. Well, fastest game to reach half a million copies sold, that is.

According to independent market research group GfK Retail and Technology Australia, the game has sold over 520,000 copies in its one year on sale. The only Wii game that has sold more is Wii Play at 569,000 copies. Mario Kart Wii has sold 328,000.

    @GtheMVP99: Oh yeah, we all forgot that there's "casual games" and "real games"...

    Anyway you slice it IT IS A GAME, you want to call it a casual game, fine, but there's the magic word at the end of that sentence again... what is it? GAME

    @vantesaur: Dude god of war, halo, mgs4, re5 and others got LOTS of replayability compared to this piece of crap. There's like higher level of difficulties for extra materials.

    As for wii fit? yea, u're SUPPOSEDLY getting slimmer. But most people know this is bullshit! wii fit doesnt help u get fit. Hell even the nintendo people claim it's still better to go out there and do somethin than relyin on this crap.

    I'm just saying, a lot of people were FOOLED into buying this crap. And coz of stuff like this nintendo makes crappy shitty games like wii-music. Hell, i wouldnt be surprised if they make like wii-muscle-builder or something in the future.

    @Marlor:

    In America (as with most places) people in cities are, on average, than people in the suburbs or the countryside. Your theory on obesity seems implausible.

  • sydderal

    I have a quick question.

    What is the point in not writing wii fit in the title, when the tag used for the news clearly state it's about wii fit?
    (and killing the whole purpose of not writing wii fit in the title in the first place)

  • 16bitman

    @conditionals: But things are starting to look better for the australians! 520,000 of them are already $150 lighter!

  • Marlor

    @Neer'mo:

    By some studies, Australians are the world's fattest people.

    This is undoubtedly linked to the fact that Australia is one of the world's most urbanised countries. Only small city-states are more urbanised.

    The US has a larger proportion of its population living in rural areas, which tends to bring down the overall obesity rate.

    I'm sure if you compared city dwellers in the US, UK and Australia, you would find similar rates of obesity.

  • Marlor

    @KesMonkey:

    Oceania is a regional grouping. One with no real agreed definition, and one that is being less and less used as Australia (the country) aligns itself as part of Asia in geopolitical and economic spheres.

    On the other hand, Australia is indeed a continent... the world's smallest.

    If the whole continental shelf is included, New Guinea would be included as part of the "Australian" continent.

  • vantesaur

    @DAS: And most people don't put down 95% of their games after a month? Like God of War for example.

  • wilbot

    @conditionals: It's the fattest continent on the planet IN THE UNIVERSE!

  • DAS

    Thing is, like many other buyers, they just buy this shit and put it down after a month. Seriously, it's all coz of stupid 'better health' crap that does no shit to people's health. And the buyer itself doesn't give a shit, they're just buying it coz it was the rave. It wasn't long before all of them realized how much of shitty product wii fit is.

    This is how bad gaming market is. If lots and lots of people are buying shitty product like this, imagine if sony and microsoft takes the dip and only make shitty health game like this instead of god of war or halo.

  • GtheMVP99

    @NicolasCage:

    It already has its category, "casual game".

    GtheMVP99

  • NicolasCage

    @ReconToaster.: How many times must we go through this:

    Wii Fit is a game, because like all other games, you use a peripheral to control a representative avatar on screen to achieve set objectives. In other words, the developer has set scenarios for you to have fun in a designed, pre-determined way.

    Wii Music is not a game, because unlike a game, it lacks an objective and is merely a tool designed to allow a user to create their own experience. It is a toy.

    Just because Wii Fit claims to have more in common with exercise equipment does not deny it the status of being a mini-game collection, which falls under the category of a game, complete with rules, rewarding of skill, competitive edge, etc.

  • NicolasCage

    @JleeLink: Being clinically obese and being subjectively obese are two different things entirely. If you put a random sampling of the US next to Australia, there would be a noticeable visual divide. The US has a lot more cases of extreme obesity and would likely "appear" to be a fatter nation. A better way to say it would be that the USA has a greater percentage of fit people than Australia.
    The statistics aren't exactly fair for both countries anyway, when a group like the middle-age to elderly cause the percentage to skyrocket.

  • Atomsk88

    @ReconToaster.: Medium - a channel or system of communication, information, or entertainment.

    By your usage of the word "medium", they would technically still be using the same medium; video.

    Wii Fit is still a game any way you slice it. In this generation we are seeing that video games have more potential outside of entertainment; they can be informal and educational. It's really nothing to be frustrated about, at all.

    I'm pretty sure I wasn't working out on that board.

    I'm fairly sure I wasn't getting an education.

    And I'm almost positive I wasn't just passively watching entertainment happen before me.
