Deadpool IS a Deathstroke the Teminator ripoff by Rob Liefeld, right down to the name "Wade Wilson" (Deathstroke's name was "Slade Wilson"). Deadpool was originally a parody, a running gag that first appeared in New Mutants #98 (New Mutants also being a ripoff from DC's Teen Titans...) who was constantly getting his ass handed to him and literally shipped (UPS) back to his employer, Tolliver (Cable's son).

Eventually that gag earned him a little following, which got him a limited miniseries where he was banging Banshee's hot redheaded daughter, Siryn, then getting him popular enough to get a full series where he really took off.

@WolfmanWalt: That was one of the things I wanted most out of X-men Legends II.

When I found out it was focusing on Apocalypse and doing a similar take on the Age of Apocalypse storyline I figured Cable was a shoe-in as a playable character.

Had someone spoil that Deadpool was in it, which made me giddy with happiness especially knowing he was playable on a second playthrough. Tried to keep the rest of the characters (outside of the obvious) out of sight, so as to have a surprise.

Yeah, big surprise.

The most blatantly obvious addition to the game... was a PSP exclusive character. Bah.

So ended the days of my Cable & Deadpool twosome. However, mayhap this shall relieve that disappointing. Cable's standing behind Cap in one of the trailers after all.

@CitizenInsane27 (Would like to eat your soul please.): Actually, I've read the Watchmen multiple times and I really didn't care for the movie. In fact, it made me realize how dated the Watchmen actually was and that it's not really a story that holds up well. For the time I'm sure it was extremely poignant, but in retrospect I saw it for what it was: a story based on inherited DC characters.

That being said, X-Men Origins: Wolverine wasn't the worst superhero film I've ever seen (Daredevil, Elektra, Punisher: War Zone made me want to gouge my eyes out), but it certainly was great either. It was a little too much of a nod to comic book fans while at the same time taking liberties with that nod.

In the end though, the Deadpool thing was a travesty. I'm really hoping that was a clone that Stryker made (or even Deadpool just regenerated an entire clone of his body or something) that was used to become that ridiculous character.

@StealthxZ30x: Sadly Marvel did not really have any creative control on this movie. When they were going bankrupt back in the day they panicked and started dumping character movie rights to get money. Wolverine was one of those.

20th Century Fox has most of the creative control to Wolverine and the rights to the movies to do as they see fit, including changing major character plot points. It was a really stupid thing for Marvel to do but they finally got smart with some of the others and now usually keep major control over the characters they license. That's why Iron Man stayed much truer to its roots. Same with the 2nd Hulk.

Deadpool as being accurate to the comics was not that bad. His body was in fact modified for weapon x project. Ryan Reynolds did a great job as Wade Wilson. Then the "deadpool" we see is really only there for the Wolverine story line. In his own movie it will be better. Hope everyone saw the Deadpool ending after the credits.

The scenes being discussed here are after another few minutes of credits, I the one in the bar, there are 2 Deadpool endings apparently.

Man...I got the shitty "watch Wolverine have a drink" ending. Yeah, it was a comic nod to Madripoor (even the right outfit) but everyone felt ripped off. I'm kinda pissed at the whole two different ending bullshit. This ain't comics...I ain't collecting them all.

Still, good to see they put DP in the right direction for a spin-off. I can see no one else but Van Wilder doing him properly.

So I am aware that Deadpool is a wise cracking character just like Spidey, which is why I liked him. That and the fact he had no problem killing people, unlike Spidey.

I didn't see the movie yet, I will at some point, but how could they sew his mouth shut? I can understand him being a villain, because he basically is/was at some point. eh...

Its not that they didn't display him exactly like the comics, it's they did nothing to the sort of his story, or his likeness. It would be like giving Batman Superman's powers and letting him run lose in Gotham, it's just lame. Especially on the director and writers parts to not be able to make a good story based around some very well written comics. The story is all there, so work with it.

Not to mention how badly they damaged Wolverine's ACTUAL origins? I won't get into that right now, but you and all the other people who enjoyed the movie need to keep your opinions on level ground. YES, I admit as a popcorn summer flick, it was decent, but as an homage to IMO one of the single most brilliant superheroes ever written? It was an abomination. And not the good, Hulk kind. The reason I am so passionate about how much I hate that movie is that I despise how Hollywood goes about these movies and destroys the history of great characters. This is the reason that people who READ the Watchmen, LOVED the movie. Because it was accurate. Didn't necessarily have every single detail, but they didn't change anything to ruin the story.

@StealthxZ30x: I could actually live with the Deadpool in the movie - up until the laser eyes that is. I mean he had regeneration, he could have easily cut open his own mouth, or had it cut open after the fall - as evidently it was - and none of the X-Men movies have been tech-heavy, just giving him teleportation as an ability was really quite understandable.

As a huge comic book nerd, and an ever bigger Deadpool fan, for a movie that isn't featuring the Deadpool character as part of the main story arc, I can't really see what every-one's problem is with it.

Comics, always, > Movies.

Rob Liefeld, a fan of the Teen Titans comics, showed his new character to then writer Fabian Nicieza. Upon seeing the costume and noting his characteristics (killer with super agility), Nicieza contacted Liefeld, saying "this is Deathstroke from Teen Titans." As two fans of the series and character, Nicieza knew Domino and Gideon (also debuting in the same issue) were serious, so he had Deadpool become an annoying jerk. Nicieza gave Deadpool the real name of "Wade Wilson" as an in-joke to being "related" to "Slade Wilson", Deathstroke.

Ok so I don't know exactly how familiar you are with Deadpool to understand what I'm about to say, but here goes:

Ryan Reynolds was brilliant as just Wade Wilson, he was wise-crackin' and when you see him in action, it was amazing to watch. But then, they decided that he should be the villain of the movie. I don't know who came up with this decision, but it was moronic. Yes, the whole movie and it's adverts are set up to make you believe that Sabretooth (which yeah, I kind of dug the way they did him, as innaccurate as it was) was the villain, he isn't. Him and Wolverine end up fighting Deadpool on top of a nuclear power plant. But here's the kicker, they set it up so that Deadpool was a sideshow monster, basically they "killed" Wade Wilson and then proceeded to mutate him (instead of the whole cancer backstory) by putting him into a coma, putting a computer in his brain, mutilating his body (including sewing his mouth shut, which takes away the wise-cracks...) and giving him Wolverine's powers (in the comics, they gave him his healing factor, but in the movie they gave him that, AND made ADAMANTIUM swords come out of his hands!!) and then they gave him Wraith's teleport powers (by killing Wraith instead of having the belt) and killed a couple other people. SO basically they made him into Frankenstein's monster. And then he is programmed by Stryker to kill Wolverine and Sabretooth, so they have to fight him. The fight was stupid and horribly done, and it was really insulting to anyone who likes Deadpool.

See, in the movie? They call him Deadpool because he is made of the "Pool of dead people". Ugh.

@Dead Giveaway: The first part of the movie nailed him pretty well. The second half, not so much. They took away his mouth. Reynolds is a pretty good DP, but then they took that part of him away.

Yeah, the movie portrayal of Deadpool was really bad, which was made even worse by the fact that Ryan Reynolds looked like he was going to be the absolute perfect Deadpool in the beginning of the movie. Then 3 minutes later he was done his lines.

Glad to hear he's making it into UA2 though. This went from a maybe to a definite purchase for me merely for the fact that Deadpool was confirmed :)

At the end of the credit roll, you see a decapitated but clearly alive Deadpool with his mouth free, breaking the 4th wall by looking at the audience and using his non sewn shut or either partially regenerated or some such mouth saying "Shhhhhhh."

It has been speculated that this is the precursor to the highly anticipated Deadpool movie starring Ryan Reynolds as the lead.

An after credits scene shows an arm with a single blade sliding in and out of it reach for Deadpool's head whose mouth has once again been torn open. The head then wakes up, looks at the audience, and breaks the fourth wall and tells the audience "Shhhh".

Thankfully there is the possibility for Deadpool being the merc with a mouth in future movies after all.

"Deadpool" in the Wolverine movie has his mouth sewn shut. Hence, "the merc with the mouth" is totally nullified, ruining any chance of his character being even slightly faithful to the source material, despite his pre-mutilation "Wade Wilson" form being pretty spot-on. It's pissed off a lot of fans.

I honestly thought his appearance in the movie was hilarious. Katanas out of the arms? Laser vision? Teleportation? It's like one of Deadpool's dreams made reality! But then it turns into a nightmare, because he's in a terrible movie and has no lines.

@Duin: About as much as I realize I have his first appearance from New Mutants 98, and that that scan is only but a small fraction of awesomeness of Deadpool. From becoming Thor and telling Michael Jackson to get a life, to Murdering Cliff and stuffing his corpse into his closet to kicking Taskmaster's ass by doing the Macerena to hallucinating his dead ex wife flying around on a massive jackrabbit while pouring a bottle of bourbon into a pitcher of milk to breaking his arms and legs and threatening to naw off Arcade's shins (or his reactions to finding his weapons sabotaged by his 'live in guest[hostage]' Al)to nailing Captain America in the nuts to getting his ass kicked by Squirrel Girl to learning escape techniques from the Goddamn Batman to having rampant sex with Death herself to...

@Duin: Na, I have whole Joe Kelly and James Felder run of the second series from issue 1 to issue 33, with a few after that but not farther than issue 55, while I have the majority of the Fabian Nacieza and all of Rob Liefeld run of X-Force. Not to forget the six issue original Deadpool limited series.

My knowledge has nothing to do with wikipedia or scans, kid. Before I quit collecting comics alltogether (too expensive a hobby), Deadpool, Captain America, and Thunderbolts were the only ones I collected from Marvel, particularly since that was during the age of Andy Kubert's convoluting X-Men storylines, the whole aftermath of the Spiderman Clone saga, and just the general Marvel downturn in quality that lasted forever (1997+).

Of course, if you're so adimant that I'm only knowledgable about Deadpool form scans and wikipedia, well there's no point in going further than this, huh?

The "Gotcha" is an affirmation, in that 'I now understand', not remotely to do with 'I got you'.

If you bother to frequent any well known message boards or sites dedicated to comics (such as C&GN at Gamefaqs, Newsrama, Deadpool Bugle, etc.) you will come to realize there are four types of people in regards to Deadpool. Those who absolutely loathe the character for various reasons (the goofball connotations, "ripoff" origin, etc.). Those who tolerate him in mild doses but generally avoid him. Those who love him strictly through his zany antics and more out-there moments collected in scan form (all perfectly referenced by WFROSE). And those fans who generally love the character for what it is, not strictly through scans, and if you look throughout this article you will find numerous people who fit that description. I happen to be the latter, particularly considering I have nearly all of his appearances stored away in boxes neatly tucked away in their plastic sleeves.

And no, I'm not the best Deadpool fan. I've lapsed considerably since Nicieza closed up shop on Cable & Deadpool. Haven't looked at his Wolverine: Origins appearances nor anything since, particularly Daniel Way's new ongoing. So nope, not the best Deadpool fan.

Just one who actually likes the character, not just random Internet scans I've stumbled across.

But of course, none of this is relevant to da widdle trolly troll now is it? Is it? Awww, you so cute.

You do realize that what you're saying doesn't add up? The timeline of your comic buying, the references to very recent events and incorrectly attributing things... It doesn't add up and simply further proves my point. And no, there's no point going forward.

I asked if you realize there's more depth to the character than an oft posted decade old scan that most people don't understand the context or circumstances to. You come back at me trying to name as many cornball or goofball antics you can. No references to Killebrew, Siryn, even his relationship with Weasel or more importantly Cable. Or perhaps his sordid and twisted relationship with T-Ray that culminated in an epiphanal moment for Wade after years thanks to Dr. Strange. No struggles with his sanity (or insanity as it were), his striving to be a better man for those he cares about, to be a hero. But yes, of course, he once kicked Captain America in the balls, haha, hehe, that is perfect Wade. Love to see that on screen, that perfectly represents the depth of his character.

@globones: Why? Without Reynolds posturing and name attachment it's been pretty much said that Deadpool would never have even reached the screen. Without him attached, Deadpool wouldn't even be in the movie, let alone possibly getting his own in the future.

And most fans have agreed for years that he has always been the best choice, even before the possibility of any cameos or movies popped up. It also seems a lot of people are claiming he did a bang up job as Wade Wilson in the movie.

So why do you say Reynolds ruined Deadpool?

The majority of my references are from the first full series. If you're gonna call me on stuff at least do your own homework. And for not naming his relationship with Siryn, I could tell you instead when the first met, when Banshee helped out Deadpool from an ambush by lackeys of Black Tom Cassedy, one lackey escaped and Siryn stopped him before Deadpool could shoot him. Banshee told Deadpool to take care of his daughter, who goes off on Deadpool, when he saves her from getting her head cut off, in the same fight losing his left hand, which refused to grow back immediately. If that's not enough to cite the first issue of the limited series, it's because you're just now being a petulant ass.

Actually, I apologize, that's not the first limited series, the first one came out in '93 (the second one in '94) was when Deadpool went looking for his ex-girlfriend Vanessa, AKA 'Copycat' (who had posed as Domino for a good amount of time in X-Force), where he got into a scuffle with Weapon X, Vanessa's then current boyfriend. Yeah, Kubert wasn't the only one capable of writing X-plots that were more convoluted and more dramatic than a daytime soap.

And why cite his relationship with Weasel? You can get that from Marvel Ultimate Alliance, and Killbrew's not much more unknown a character. I named freaking Blind Al, the cross dressing hostage at Deadpool's house; how more obscure could I get? How about Ilaney, the German pilot working for Deadpool, whom T-Ray looped in an endless nightmare for defying him? I could also say something about Monty, the escapee precog from Landau, Lockman, and Lake (the same intergalactic life insurance company that insures Wolverine) You're also citing the plot of the final arc by Kelly in the main series when T-Ray dug up his ex wife, and used her against Deadpool to get revenge by making Deadpool realize that it was him who killed 'Wade Wilson' and he not being Wade himself. Which backfired, because, as Deadpool pointed out, he was trying to be better, while T-Ray spent all that time and effort to get revenge on Deadpool. His whole insanity issue when he was in the Deadpool is how he met Death in the first place. He could see her because he was insane, and that's why she found him interesting. And he's kicked several people in the balls, I just particularly like when he did it to Captain America (who, incidentally, is also my favorite super hero, the Steve Rogers one, that is)

Anything after issue 55 I'm not all that familiar with, since I don't own the comics... but I have friends that still collected it past the point I did, especially the more recent stuff like during the Marvel Civil War and the House of M.

Seriously, I doubt you would be satisfied unless I took a picture of myself with all my Deadpool comics, and even then you'll probably remain dubious.
