The Sims 3 Boldly Goes Where Many Have Gone Before
What better way to market the latest version of EA’s life simulation series than to tap into one of the biggest movies of the year?
While I am a little disappointed at the lack of pointy-ear options indicated by this Star Trek send-up, I was rather ticked by the red shirts dying horrible deaths, so it pretty much balances itself out. This is exactly the sort of thing that makes me rush out to purchase The Sims 3 at launch, only to realise after a few minutes of tinkering that there is no way I will ever have the time or talent to create anything this good.

I cant wait till some Sims 3 mods start rolling out. I can imagine the custom movies now.
Star Wars: The Simpia Strikes Back, maybe?
@wtf_G:
2 weeks before is usually the norm. 2+ weeks is not the norm.

@mzo: No, redshirts. Carmine is a variation of redshirt, not the other way around. :P
Really, how many EA commercials do we need on this site? I at least hope you are well compensated.
Oban
It needs more lens flares. There's only about seven in that trailer, and they were all in the graphics.

Many weeks before launch is not the norm at all.
wtf_G
@DragonYen: Maybe it ticked his boxes?

@kitsuneconundrum: It is too distinct. Usually, it's kinda mumbled and slurred, and sounds indistinct. The announcer guy was really awkwardly overenounciating, and that made it sound weird. Simlish is supposed to sound like a language without being one, and when you hear it that clearly, it just doesn't sound right.
But yeah, I hated the trailer. Hated, hated... right until the very end. Then came the "Now for a Fight Scene", and I raised an eyebrow, and mumbled, "Well played, Sims...." Redeemed the whole trailer for me.
@.com: awesome.
Can someone tell me at what point in time collared shirts were abolished forever in the future?
Xagest
@Calchas0101: I didn't know that. Now I do. Tut tut.
Sims 3 looks like Sims 2.
expansionsss
@DevCo: I play these games, but you don't know me. You have no idea where I come from, where I've been, HOW LONG I'VE BEEN THERE, WHAT I HAD TO DO TO GET FROM WHERE I WAS TO WHERE I AM NOW!
.com
@MailToad: Commenting on Kotaku doesn't work that way.
@Mike Fahey:
I wasn't aware. Thanks Mike! Off to investigate this crime right now!
I mean... whut.
heh, carmines.
mzo
@game at least. :^)
So, am I correct it thinking that much like the paranormal sims that sims 2 introduced in every expansion, sims 3 with bring in special career paths?
HepCat
@Numanoid: NICE.
Stevie Nicks
@MailToad:
He wrote this article, of course he knows this article is nothing about the pirated leak, but people seem to be bringing it up
@flyingsupernerds are go!: No that just looks like a bit of text.
svenhoek: Got His Wish!
@Mike Fahey:
Whats your point? This story has nothing to do with that.
So, wait? Captain Kirk is now being played by Tim Vine?
EasyTiger
@undefined: can't wait for this game... punch out... infamous... sims 3... what summer drought? poor wallet =(
@Mike Fahey: Wait, what? *Stealthily opens pirate bay*
Nitro378
@DevCo: You must know even less people than I do. ;_;
I don't even know anyone who played Sims, or the million variations. Who plays these games?
I want to know who to be angry at for never getting a proper Sim City 5.
@Falsoman: I was just thinking that. I'd say a disemvowelment is in order. :P
@DragonYen:
Coochy coo!
"While I am a little disappointed at the lack of pointy-ear options indicated by this Star Trek send-up, I was rather ticked** by the red shirts dying horrible deaths, so it pretty much balances itself out."
Tickled?
Who would'a thought, Klingon and Simlish are the same language :P
Steffanic
@Mike Fahey: This guy said something among the lines of "This is not news" BURN HIM! =D
@Calchas0101:
No, not really.
My sister is going to want this game. Sadly, my computer is the only one in the house that could probably run this game. Never gonna see it again...
@Calchas0101: i got the game the other day, its not too bad and its not graphic heavy which is always a plus in my eyes, running a rubbish firegl graphics card
death_to_midgets
i see oba-mah.
@Mike Fahey: but almost 2 weeks before launch? thats kinda strange.
Calchas0101
Yes, yes, we are well aware that the game has leaked onto torrent sites, which is something that happens so regularly these days that it is pretty much non-news.
This is pretty old tbh
@Mister Adequate: check the above posts...
Calchas0101
And it's already been leaked to the torrents, which is also something many games before have done.
That was bad but the fight scene made me giggle a bit.
Next month.. Yeah!
The preview image to the video looks...familiar:

No?
@pressstart: ah yes also known as the age of booty :P
Calchas0101
@Calchas0101: You're late to the party. The world was heading towards DDay years ago when usenet was the place to be for all your piracy needs. And what line was on page 5.
pressstart
@KillerBee: its the simlish. It sounds different to me.
kitsuneconundrum
@KillerBee:
makes me wanna pirate the game instead....
wow the sims 3 has leaked its way into thepiratebay allready... where is this world going?
Calchas0101
I don't know if I like this or if I want to throw up in my mouth.
@Dragzonox: yayuh! I'm gonna play the game like a regular old joe then get tired and turn all of my characters gay or lesbian! Or gay/lesbian vampires.
wazzzup16
@svenhoek: Got His Wish!: The most familiar bit of text EVAR
wazzzup16
@Kobun: yeah i got that game, kinda boring though... not like the real Age Of Booty :P
Calchas0101
Wow they've sure improved on their character design!
So very fitting. A generic sci-fi/action film that merely features Star Trek characters (Alongside obstructing continuity and the timeline) and a sequel to The Sims 2 that is subpar.
The Sims 3 is worse than I could've ever imagined. The UI alone is horrific looking, I can't help but feel they made changes to the UI just for the sake of it and it looks horribly tacky.
Sadly: Sims 2 > Sims 3
