Tony Hawk Pro Skater Ports Skating To IPhone?

Well, being fully 2D and having a whole lot of different gameplay mechanics than what thps had, then I'd say yes.

Its not just a 98% copy like most off-brand cereals and cola companies do. I took the general idea of the basic arcade style they incorporated and I went my own direction with it.

It feels like it was inspired from the tony hawk franchise, thats all. You should check it out at my site and see what you think :D

I don't want tilt controls. I would LOVE a DS port though. Are you listening, Activision?

@Steve: True, but now I really want to find my THPS2 disc and start it up. Or at least listen to the soundtrack again.

@GcRayden: You'd better worry more about the Activision lawsuit. Does the game distinguish itself from Tony Hawk in any significant way?

I loved the Dreamcast version... it was my introduction to the series, and what an introduction it was! It's still among my top three games in the franchise, ranking right up there with Tony Hawk 3 and American Sk8teland for the Nintendo DS.

However, an iPhone version would be difficult to swallow. Apple needs to make a joypad for this thing stat if they expect it to be taken seriously as a game machine. It's got the port on the side, so what's the hold up?

Game is absolutely _legendary_ in my circle. Once the Wii gets its PSX emulator, this baby will be back in business for me.

A bit worried about those lousy accelerometer controls. How do you do a special trick? Why not just put all 4 face buttons on one side?

@matttt: Well, I stand corrected regarding this move, upon closer inspection and research, the grab button doesn't have to be held. However, that is irrelevant, because the trick performed is actually a Kickflip to Indy, which is a kick move. So yeah, I'm wrong on this point, but my other qualms still stand.

@matttt: I also posted this in the video comments, but you can clearly see at ~2:35, the avatar performs an Indy grab move yet the player never pressed the grab button. This is concrete proof of the forgery.

Really, Kotaku? You're going to publish something like this? Don't you think if this were real the developers would post it to their own youtube account? Maybe one created before May 7...

The video starts off looking legitimate enough, but then the player in the video manually 'skips' to the next video. Now, I don't have an iPhone, but I would think that if this were real, the standard onscreen display would not pop up when you try to skip the intro video. Also, how is there no visual feedback when the onscreen 'buttons' are pressed, and how does he do different types of grabs/flips/grinds when there's only one button for each.

I haven't done a frame-by-frame analysis, but I think this is just a well timed miming of gameplay alongside a pre-recorded and edited video. I don't think you guys are this desperate for traffic, maybe you just need to crank your BullShit meters up to 11.

OMG I remember playing this game back in the day with my friends. Ahh... Good times. Dude. I would buy this in a heartbeat.

Tony Hawk's Underground 2 Remix on the PSP is more impressive than this. Considering that it was a PSP launch title that was a port of the PS2 version of the game, and added more content to it.

But maybe there is hope of the iPhone getting actual games, even if they are Dreamcast ports.

I love tony hawk games. They were the best part of my childhood. I remember writing down all of the tricks so I could remember them lol.

Thats why I'm making a game thats just like thps for the Xbox Live Community Games.

The problem I have with ports like this is that the games were designed to be played with a CONTROLLER, not shifting the screen around and about. And the ports are probably going to keep coming until developers find a way of making games work that are unique to the system (just like how console games are rarely straight up ported to a handheld)

Ummm, I boot it up every now and again to play on the Dreamcast or PS1 whenever I have to reorganize my game collection. Of course I'll play an iPhone version, if they nail the controls that is.

By far the best of the Tony Hawk series, i miss that game on my dreamcast :(

I don't get it. How can you play these games on the iPhone without physical buttons? It's just too uncomfortable. Damn Apple and their persistence in treating their customers like 2 year olds with shiny toys.
