  • SocraticMethod

@relic1980: I disagree mostly about CNN, it's fairly unbiased, but I can see why someone wouldn't like MSNBC or especially Fox. I've been watching CNN's Sotomayor coverage and they've been having a lot of analysis on both sides. I think it's been pretty good. Besides, the whole Sotomayor thing is getting ridiculously blown out of proportion by only some of the most right wing guys out there.

  • SocraticMethod

    @d1sCo_d3aTh:

Right, because it's been "in" for the past 9 years?

  • relic1980

@SocraticMethod: Uh, yeah. I've been watching CNN since their founding, and I have seen a progressive (heh) slide to the left on most issues. Right now they feel the need to have, instead of actual news on their scroll feed, a constant replay of Sotemayor's Greatest Hits. And since the elections, they could easily rename themselves The Obama Network.
Oh, and for the record, having a far-right twit (Lou Dobbs) does not constitute "balance" when just about everybody else is spilling the party line.

I just wish there was something better. Fox is reprehensible, and MSNBC is worthless to me. Unfortunately, for a moderate there are no TV news sources that aren't literally puking their biases at the screen.

  • paulrenzo

    @Reikson:

For the same reason people here generally hate Nintendo. It's "in." And yeah, I bet most people don't even watch Fox and get their opinion of the network from their so-called "enlightened" peers. Talk about irony.

  • SocraticMethod

@Reikson: Mainstream TV news is terrible if you're talking about local news. Local news is a waste of time regardless of one's political affiliation.

  • SocraticMethod

@d1sCo_d3aTh: CNN is not biased. Only people on the far right confuse CNN or NPR with liberal bias. MSNBC does have liberal bias on their later shows with Matthews, Olbermann, and Maddow. Their normal broadcasts are straight news usually.

  • SocraticMethod

@Đipic: Most reputable newspapers have political bias as well you know?

There's really nothing wrong with bias though as long as you get it from equal sides at times. That's why it's good to watch both sometimes, or read opposing papers.

  • SocraticMethod

@Shinjiru: Wow, you must be one of those disillusioned Neo-Conservatives. You must be a big Karl Rove and Dick Cheney fan.

O'Reilly is by no means fair. Alan Colmes is perfect for their network because he never really represented the Dems when he was overpowered by Hannity in the studio all the time. Fox liked Colmes because he sat there and took it from Hannity and never stood up for his beliefs really.

What is wrong with the ACLU? God forbid there's an organization that represents civil rights and fights for minority groups.

Good job on assuming every Dem thinks you're a racist ahole for not liking Obama. We're not all like that you know? Most even.

  • Deaf Mute

@Shinjiru: Hopefully this was just a troll mimicking someone who is a product of the machine that if Fox.

  • Teran

Jesus you people are pathetic. Have you ever even watched the show?

    Teran

  • Placentasaurus

    You poor, poor bastard...

  • Matt0505

@TimDJ84: "and some of the shows are hilarious."

I'm sorry but I'm not looking for comedy hour to get my news, and if I am, I turn on Stephen Colbert. Unfortunately he's more accurate than most news networks out there.

MSNBC, Fox News, CNN, they all pretty much suck because they're catering to a specific group of people. The problem is for whatever reason, no one likes a fence sitter, even though those are the most logical, objective people in the world because they realize everything isn't as simple as "ABORTION IS KILLING BABIES!!! or "ABORTIONS FOR EVERYONE WHOOOO!!!!!"

But sadly that's what people want from their ENTERTAINMENT, because that's all those networks are. They sure as hell aren't educational.

    Matt0505

  • Matt0505

@d1sCo_d3aTh: Yeah, American Idol has high ratings too. Does that make it quality TV? Or Dancing With the Stars?

    Matt0505

  • lionkitten

Fox News = not watching. But hope it went well.

  • d1sCo_d3aTh

@mind in rewind: LOL because CNN and MSNBC are so unbiased, AMIRITE?

    d1sCo_d3aTh

  • mind in rewind

@d1sCo_d3aTh: Yeah, the reason is that it's sensationalistic, biased garbage. America loves that crap, unfortunately.

    d1sCo_d3aTh

Why all the Fox News hate? Are they really any worse than the other mainstream TV news channels?

Also this is a pretty good gig for Kotaku. How did you guys land this TV appearance?

....they have the highest ratings for a reason, folks.

  • Atomsk88

    @bakagaijin: Agreed.

I know when people hear "Fox News" and "video games" together, there's this instant urge to grief their hatred for the program.

In all honesty, when has televised news (non-game specific mind you) ever done justice to video games? Maybe I don't watch enough news, but whether it's for or against a game/console, it's poorly executed and you might as well have parents sitting at a table trying to explain the premise of Pokemon.

  • Đipic

Meh, that's why I subscribe to a reputable newspaper. Infinitely better than any of the cable news networks.

  • TNAfan121

    @NeoStarr:

    TNAfan121

  • Shinjiru

Fuck CNN, MSNBC, NBC, The Daily Kos, MoveOn, Acorn, The ACLU, and The New York Times.

    Long live FOX News.

If you watch Fox at all then you know that Hannity is clearly a conservative, he never hides that fact, same as Olberman or Matthews never hide away from their liberal beliefs. O'Reilly is fair to both sides, but seeing as liberals and most of the media are way too the left these days, if you affiliate yourself with the Democratic Party then I could understand why you would think he is unfair. Geraldo is good to watch. I don't agree with everything he says, but I always try and catch his show on Saturday and Sunday nights. And I know Alan Colmes isn't on with Hannity anymore, but I always enjoy seeing him on FOX. I hardly ever agree with him but I like to hear his point of view. Unlike the dems who think that if you don't support Obama then you must be a racist asshole, I respect the differing points of view that liberals bring to the table. This is the U.S.A., the greatest country in the world, and we are all free to voice our opinions. I personally may believe that all of you democrats have lost your damn minds, but I am still holding out hope that one day you will all come to your senses. ;)

    Best wishes to all.
    And God Bless the U.S.A.

Ah,so many misguided idiots on here.Fox news is great, love it, and some of the shows are hilarious.Pardon me for not whole heartedly loving the communist news network.Open your eyes people, not all republicans want to ban games and Fox news is definately not the main culprit. Most people that comment do not even view multiple networks, they stick to one source which skews their views.

Fox News, MSNBC, what the hell is the difference? Both blatantly biased networks that cater towards people who don't actually want to hear both sides of the story, they just want their opinion to be force-fed to them and believe they're right and anyone else who has a differing opinion should be strung up. I hate them both.

    Matt0505

  • GriefTroll

@dhghunter: I know I'm fuckin' lazy. And I bet I do a shit ton more than most do on this site.

  • PhoenixAzure

@No I wouldn't like tea and crumpets: Well they only report one side of the story when all the other news stations reports the other sides. Ideally, we should watch multiple news stations from multiple countries to try and get a more rounded out idea of whats real and whats not. BBC is my preference but my dad watches CNN and MSNBC sometimes too so I'll watch that as well.

  • dhghunter

@Blackbeltdude: That was one time, and not the first time it has ever happened in media anywhere. You forget the stink that news organizations made about Mortal Kombat... Besides, wasn't it Obama that called gamers lazy? Should we all hate him too then?

@CarolNereus: ITS A TRAP TOTILO!!! they're going to pull Jack Thompson out of the closet they keep him in and talk about how you report about murder simulators! TREAD WITH CAUTION!

  • No I wouldn't like tea and crump

@PhoenixAzure: The BBC is the worst for it, they are SO bias but yet they don't realise it. They spout shit about impartiality and then only report one side of a story but then do something retarded to cover it up

E.G they are so pro-Palestine its unbelievable but yet they refused to show a humanitarian appeal for its people because that would be bad or something...

  • DJGhostmare

@jihadjoe343: That's exactly it. There is a clear line between the liberal commentating programmes in the evening and the news portion of the station's programming (and conservative Joe Scarborough in the morning). Fox News spends its entire news broadcast portion promoting its conservative spin and still promote it as "fair and balanced" coverage. I would respect its existence a lot more were they to be more honest about their modus operandi.

Nevertheless, the part that really gets my goat is how they have a cavalcade of "journalists" negate the comments of their guest were they not the opinion they attempted to promote. Case in point: Geoff's Mass Effects segment, where in the aftermath four commentators ignored everything that was said to re-establish their own point. It is a sickening and incredibly common tactic they employ.

  • SocraticMethod

@Grisaille: Flip it, Ninja!: Yeah I noticed that too.

I'm disapointed that Stephen just ignored my MGS question for the most part.

  • DranzerKire

@LazyMan: But look at poor Totilo when they start talking things instead of games.

  • Ackers

aww they cut totilo off when he said "i think i came across as a pepsi drinking....."

    TOTILO DID GREAT!

  • SocraticMethod

@Hey_Blinkon: Ah c'mon man, that was a big joke. You didn't think that was funny?

I like watching Hardball (Chris Matthews), and Countdown (Olbermann), but I still prefer NPR sometimes just for straight reporting.

@MooglesInMyFace: Olbermann is their most outspoken liberal guy, and he is still not even 1/10th the spinster that O'Reilly and Sean Hannity are. Those guys are total scum imo.

@N15PCA: Like I said, some of these MSNBC guys don't try and lie about their political sympathies like Fox News guys do. O'Reilly and Hannity play on their "No Spin" BS as if informed people a buying it.

  • NeoStarr

@svenhoek: Bite My Glorious Golden Ass: Can we just start a petition in this thread for all the people who really want Totilo to deliver one giant FUCK YOU to O'Reilly?

@jihadjoe343: To be honest, I've never watched their daytime news shows. Just the nightly stuff (Matthews, Olbermann, etc) at the gym (I don't get cable). But I beg to differ than Foxnews is any more conservative than MSNBC is liberal. Because from what I've seen, MSNBC is HORRENDOUSLY liberal.

    I prefer CNN myself.

Hopefully someone will put this up so we can watch it. I missed it...

  • SocraticMethod

@jihadjoe343: Exactly. I watch MSNBC regularly and their regular news has no spin whatsoever, but some of their personality shows (Chris Matthews, Keith Olbermann, and Rachel Maddow) obviously have liberal views they don't shy away from. The thing is they don't try to hide it on their shows.

  • Sonicslasher

LOL! They said World of Warcraft LAN Party.

    Sonicslasher

  • N15PCA

Just like when Keith Olbermann and Chris Matthews headed the election coverage during the DNC and RNC conventions and when Keith Olbermann hosted the Democrat primary debate. As for fox news never did such a thing.

  • Ackers

yay for Brian! he mentioned you lol

  • bakagaijin

@Hey_Blinkon: Screw MSNBC and FOX. They are both terrible. CNN is "mildly" in the center, but they have a habit of swaying too far left or right in some particular situations than I care to see.
Really, If you want real reporting that you can actually learn from, try BBC America, or NPR. People claim NPR is liberal, but in actuality, it's fairly center. They're the only place where you can get a topic reported on longer than a 2 minute sound clip, and they do a excellent job of leaving the bullshit reporting to everyone else.

  • SocraticMethod

@liquid_kore: I guess I'm the only person who's actually sent a question in.

@Hey_Blinkon: There is typically a clear delineation with MSNBC between their news segments during the day and the personality shows at night. Sure opinions do come across, but nowhere near as consistently and heavy handed as Fox's news coverage.

  • EderC

Wow. My question got about three seconds worth of talk when they spent a good minute or two talking about WiiFit and EA Active, which have nothing to do with E3 or the future of gaming . . . effing Fox News.

God help you Stephen. Get ready to get your mic cut and that you support rape games and whatnot.

  • billjrj

Be careful...those people at Fox News are tricky. They might lead you into an argument about how games are destroying today's youth and whatnot.

@SocraticMethod: I am indeed a big fan of Karl Rove and Dick Cheney. I especially enjoyed Dick Cheney's remarks on national security recently. I am all for water boarding or any other form of enhanced interrogation if it saves even one American life.

As for what's wrong with the ACLU? I think these quotes from a former lawyer for the ACLU (Mr. Reese Lloyd) say it best - "The ACLU played a helpful role in the civil rights movement defending these people, and I can't turn my back on that. I have to give credit where credit is due. But...that being said, what they have done in the past is completely eviscerated by what they do in the present. The ACLU has become a fanatical anti-faith Taliban of American religious secularism."

    and

"I have done more cases for minorities and civil rights violations myself than the whole bunch of them put together. I was in the trenches of the Civil Rights movement. They can't tell me anything about civil rights. We did that 40 years ago, and we accomplished that goal. There are now laws protecting people from those things we fought against. The Civil Rights movement has now taken some crazed "Jesse Jackson" turn to the point that often it is now the white people that are being discriminated against. The ACLU is an elitist organization bent on the social engineering of our Country in defiance of both the legislative and executive branches. What they are involved in is secular cleansing of American History."

I am appalled by the lack of morality in all politics but especially from the Democratic Party. Most Dems that I have heard from agree with Sotomayor's decision to not allow the promotion of white and Latino firefighters because they scored better than blacks? What ever happened to getting what you deserve through hard work? The sense of entitlement in this country is disgusting. I don't care if those firefighters were blue, orange, green whatever; those with the highest scores deserved the promotion.

I just wish what is right and what is wrong determined peoples decisions in this day and age and not what their party line tells them to do.
