I was so disappointed... Such a -LONG- tease and this is all they reveal? I was honestly expecting a teaser or a trailer of some sort, not the same little image they used at E3. :|

@1up: Yeah, it's a bit of a tired joke, though I'd say most people in the West were definitely disappointed by MGS2. All that hype, people pushing away the Dreamcast and waiting for and drooling over the new MGS for years only to have it come and fart in everyone's face.

I'm not liking the idea of a Raiden game, I hate him. I hope things will be Snake related at Sony's presser, that image of Big Boss fills me with hope, and that hope doesn't want it on the PSP go, it wants it on the PS3 and a real sneaking game. I'm gonna stop talking in 3rd person now.

You know, there's still a lot of stories unanswered in the MG universe. What of seeing the full details of Sunny's rescue? Where did Sokolov end up after Portable Ops with the knowledge he had of the Shagohod and the Metal Gear prototype? What of the gap between the aforementioned P.O. and Metal Gear 1?

Every single chapter of the canon games has all come together in one coherent--if not convoluted--tale. There's still room for making the story complete however.

It's an incredible thought. Hopefully he still kicks it old-school with the 2D. The GB games have shown you can still do amazing things with the concept. The previous 3D ones just doesn't hold a candle.

@Matt0505: You're partly correct. MGS4 was the definitive ending to Solid Snake, but not Metal Gear in general. Konami would never let that money-making machine die. I guess what's left of Metal Gear are spin-offs like we see in Metal Gear Rising and/or prequels.

I'm starting to be disappointed now as I see Raiden's game is for the 360 that I don't own and can't afford. Plus I start to think the other game will be for that new psp go, that I can't afford also. And that's only if there actually is another game besides the xbox360 one. I bought my ps3 for MGS4 only but now I will be disappointed with nothing to play on it.

Look at it like this, continuity and repetition keep people coming back. So if they were to ever truly break that cycle, the series would fail.

Microsoft debuted the first details on Metal Gear Solid Rising at their E3 press conference this morning, but there's a reason Microsoft wasn't bragging about this Raiden-starring adventure being an Xbox 360 exclusive -- it isn't.

"You know, we didn't say that it was exclusive," clarified Xbox executive and corporate VP John Schappert (he was the guy hosting most of the event) during an interview with me immediately following the press conference.

"We said that the next Metal Gear will be coming [to Xbox 360]," he said.

"I couldn't be more excited about him [Kojima] working on that [Metal Gear Solid Rising] and having that be part of our show," said Schappert. "When I heard about that, I was pretty ecstatic and it was an honor to be able to be on stage with him and announcing his next Metal Gear, which will be on Xbox 360."

Of course, Schappert wasn't in a position to announce where else Metal Gear Solid Rising would be appearing, but could series creator Hideo Kojima be pleasing everyone by announcing this latest work at one conference, showing it at another? We'll have to wait and find out tomorrow morning at Sony's E3 conference.

And thus, the waiting game continues.

I really don't get how people can continually get excited for the same characters/type-game over and over again.

There have been how many Metal Gear's now exactly? Like close to 10? They're continuing this series for $$$$$, not because they legitimately have more stories to tell which "fit" in to the Metal Gear world. It's easy to just come up with some story and say "yeah that works, make it!" when you know the fanboys will flock to buy it no matter what just because it says Metal Gear on it.

MGS4 was built up to be the last and was made in a way that made you believe it was the last, and be ok with it. To come out with more at this point is just milking it too much and takes value away from a great series.

And yes, I'm well aware that it'll sell millions. And for people who like it, great. But like "Final" Fantasy, I just can't keep getting excited for a series that is only around still because it makes money, not because there is actually innovation going on.
