Ninja Gaiden Sigma 2 Impressions: If It’s Broke A Little, Fix It A Little

I didn’t like Ninja Gaiden II much. From what I saw of Ninja Gaiden Sigma 2, though, I like it a lot better. Amazing what an extra 12 months development time can do for a game, isn’t it?

Ninja Gaiden Sigma 2 is a remake of Ninja Gaiden II, first released around a year ago on the 360, only this time it’s bound for the PlayStation 3. It has a few new game modes, some new characters and a whole range of fixes for the problems that plagued the 360 edition. While I didn’t get any hands-on time with the game, I did sit down and watch new Team Ninja boss Yosuke Hayashi play through a few levels.

Firstly, and most importantly, the camera has been vastly improved over NG2’s shoddy system (which was the main reason I never really got into the 360 game). No longer will it get stuck behind walls, or lag too slowly behind your character; it’s crisp, maintains a constant following distance and zooms in and out of the action smoothly.

Also improved are the game’s visuals. You’d expect this, with the remake coming a year after the original, but the fact remains, this looks better than the 360 edition. Cleaner textures, better effects, that sort of thing.

The one other significant change to the original is the addition of some extra characters: Ayane, Momiji and Rachel. Hayashi spent most time showing off Ayane, and using her makes for quite a different game, her shorter reach and greater speed changing the way you approach the game’s enemies.

Aaaaaaannnnnd that’s about all I could gather from the demo: the fact this is Ninja Gaiden II, only with an extra 12 months’ worth of polish, fixes and a few new additions. Since the game went down so well on 360, it should be received just as well on PS3 when it ships sometime this Fall.

    @milford:
    Well let me tell you this beat this one on mentor is humanly impossible!!! tottally crazy!!
    I,ve unlocked all the achievemnts exept way of the mentor..let,s not even talk about way of the master..

  • Aphera

    @MDX: My problem with the camera was mostly how it was zoomed in too often and obscured your vision of the surroundings, thus cutting down on situational awareness; a vital element in staying alive in any game as ruthless as this.

  • Jennacide

    @Jim81Jim: Didn't Sigma 1 do the exact same thing and fix the shoddy camera from NG1 and cause a whole new branch of problems?

    @OrtenseDemophon: If you think God of War was only good because of gore, you've never played it or have no taste. It trumps the Ninja Gaiden games in every way. More enjoyable, better story/writing/acting, more interesting puzzles, better combat, and not littered with cheap death moments abound.

    would be nice if they patched the 360 version with the bug fixes and improvements. As for extras, make the characters, weapons, side missions, etc as DLC. There really isn't any reason why the PS3 version should be better, other than it came out 12 months after. At least the patch and DLC will bring the 360 version closer to the new game.

    @Mini-Boss: I always thought that Alma's two incarnation were the hardest bosses in the game, knocking her out of the air is almost impossible on MN.

    If you wanna be cheap and use ninpo, try hitting her with inferno just as she is about to launch her fireballs or pillars. Knocks her down every time.

    I won't be getting this game unless I have assurance that the horribly broken combat system is fixed. You could beat the first game by just mashing Y with the Scythe or Lunar -- first few mashes would do the Y-Y-Y combo, which always lops off a limb, then the next Y would perform the insta-kill OT. There were so many balance issues and exploits in the system that you couldn't simply ignore the exploits and play without them.

    The next problem was the sheer number of ill-conceived bosses. Terrible art design, small and uninteresting movesets, unblockable and sometimes unavoidable attacks/grabs, annoyingly long grab cutscenes, bad health and damage balancing, etc.

    Fortunately, from what I've seen, Team Ninja seems to at least acknowledge that these problems exist. They even went so far as to replace the crappy boss fight where you had to shoot arrows at the two purple dragons. Let's hope they manage to fix the rest!

    I'm buying this for the PS3. Can't wait since I missed it on the Xbox 360

  • Mit

    @SG79: They aren't going to get a T rating though. It has a mild amount of blood in it, and unless your blood is as mild as a Tony Hawk game (which it isn't) you're getting an M rating. The only thing I think they might save themselves from is a more mild rating in regions with more specific rating sets (I can't recall directly where or what specific age, but places have ratings like 15/16+ and 18/19+).

  • Mit

    @Luke Plunkett: Yeah, when I said gore I meant blood spurting and flowing everywhere from limbs :P

    They still have dismemberment, and blood spats on the ground when you hit stuff/get hit, but when you sever a limb it comes off with no fanfare but a glowing purple cloud, and the stub on the enemy is just black and glows purple a bit, and doesn't bleed at all. One of the most talked about features of NG2 was the excessive blood and how satisfactory it was to hack a group of ninjas into pieces.

    It seems a lot less satisfactory now :\

    (and don't think I won't get the game because of this, I'll just be a bit disappointed).

  • Early

    No one is mentioning the updates for the 360 version that broke it? I haven't played since they updated it to the point where it was literally unplayable (certain unskippable cutscenes would crash the game). Maybe it works now, but I am beyond caring at this point.

  • element7

    @detto: I smelt it from a mile away. These are the same folks that if on the other end of the spectrum would say "I don't understand why everyone hated HAZE."

    Listen guys, just face it...Itagaki delivered the 360 a shoddy game that was broken mechanically. It has nothing to do with your precious XBOX360, the console is still gravy, just the game itself was broken then, and is now fixed for the PS3, I suppose that hurts you a little I guess though.

  • laser beams

    @You Are My Friend!: i think there are going to be a lot of us "idiots". i fully support this game :D

  • element7

    @SG79: Is there a reason for the financial advice? I don't think his decision is that catastrophic considering he is essentially selling it for a fixed, polished version of the game, albeit some blood?

    Ask any "gamer" and they'd rather have a playable game than a shoddy version that decorates the blood and violence, yet most of the time you are frustrated with the game play.

  • laser beams

    @SG79: are you certain about that blood thing? i heard they just showed an unrated preview video- but the game is going to feature the same over-the-top violence. not that it matters either way...

  • jedbeetle

    more warm fuzzies.

    Maybe I'll get this, just to piss off and spite Itagaki. I'm seriously starting to get fed up with that guy.

    @Trumpet: Exact same here. Nearly for Gears 2 and this, but my brother bought a 360 so I just bought these games for his. I guess I should have waited on NG2, but I got it on a "Buy 2 used, get 1 free" deal.

    I would had liked more that Kasumi was in there instead of Ayamem, but... me, we get more kunoichis which is good with me, xD

  • OrtenseDemophon

    @zlimness: wut? you must be one of those kids that love GOW because its a gorefest, what fucked word we live that a average/good game can become awesome with gore (ie: Gears and GoW)

    OrtenseDemophon

  • SG79

    @Shinta:

    You know this how exactly? Acolyte in the E3 demo had fewer enemies but how will this exactly dictate higher difficulties?

    Seriously though, if you consider projectile spamming and instant boss recovering that force you to spam i-frames like no tomorrow hardcore, then by all means.

    NGB was a much MUCH better game overall and I really don't expect NGS2 to fix all the flaws that Itagaki made with this one.

  • SG79

    @Santar:

    They fly off and vanish. Torsos remain on screen, but are we really complaining about a game like this being "unrealistic"?

  • SG79

    @Bergerac:

    Thing is, you're cutting things off literally so there is no "non-damage". Torsos remain on screen too.

  • SG79

    @Shinta:

    Self shadowing, specular maps missing from the original etc etc. Oh, the fact that the chapter 9 boss end is replaced with a better fight. Now if they can do the same for the worms..

    The improvements, if any, that I want are bosses that don't recover with every single frame and projectile spamming enemies.

    You're right that the major areas that NGII needs work on aren't shown yet technically.

  • Desfunk

    I'd definately pick this one up, but i found the 360 version to be TOO damn unforgiving. Even the first one was easy (in all of its versions) compared to this.

  • okenny :) ...building bridges (t

    @AliyahAcestes: ...just WOW.

  • Bergerac

    @undefined: Yup, I was holding out on NG2/Sigma 2 to see which one ended up better. Sony could've stolen my purchase but they've just forced me to now buy the 360 version. I want kinetic friggin' action, and I loved the 360 demo. If I want a 'sword' game that has stupid non-damage I'll play Soul Calibur.

    360 purchase it is.

    Bergerac

  • amobius

    @Trumpet: same and same i nearly purchased a 360 for gears and ng2,as for the blood im hoping theres something you can choose to turn on in the options to make to the game bloodier...

  • robinthakur

    @Deuce: Well, you say that, but did you play the 360 version? Its an integral part of the game as Itagaki made it and released it, so to go back, take that out and add other things in seems a bit odd, unless they couldn't get it running with so much gore on screen at a higher res. I'm not into gore galore either, but in the case of Ninja Gaiden it definitely adds to the satisfaction of game (although it probably shouldn't...)

    I own both consoles, and played the original Sigma which I enjoyed, but the crazy gore was a part of what made the 2nd NG great fun to play and its not *that* gratuitous, its just looks painful to behold. It might even be more realistic but I can't vouch for that, obviously.

    robinthakur

  • robinthakur

    @Shinta: I'm irritated that the gore is reduced and toned down for Sigma 2 but I tend to think it was done more for performance reasons than any semblence of tastefullness. Its a hardcore game, and I agree with the other poster that said that it seems unrealistic for limbs to disappear in purple smoke (I'm not a gore lover, but it seemed fitting with the ferocity of a ninja in this game, and sharp swords). The suicide bombers etc were a good gameplay mechanic in the original as it convinced you to attack without mercy. leaving nobody alive etc.

    I likewise had hardly any qualms with the original on Xbox but agree increased res, camera control and content is a very good thing! The 360 version never looked much of a leap above the Xbox original in terms of graphics to me. I just wish they could leave the gore alone as to remove it now seems like tampering more than improvement. Unless the PS3 can't handle it...

    robinthakur

  • CMcCon342

    From every picture, it looks like the blood, and more importantly, the dismemberment has been removed. Yet, no one seems to be reporting on this.

    I am not a sicko, but the dismemberment entering into the gameplay a lot. Once an enemy was injured you'd have to change your tactics because they would go all suicidal on you. Also, it opened up finishing moves, so if you injured a ton of guys, then you could do one huge combo to finish them all off.

    If they got rid of these mechanics, I'd like that to be reported.

    CMcCon342

  • Muppsatan

    @BritBloke916: the first sigma did just that + the mission mode was brutal...

  • Dawud

    @Ueziel: The camera in NGII was kind of a funny issue for me, I kind of embraced it I don't know if this was the designers intention but I got into the habit of throwing shuriken when I couldn't see around a corner. I figured if they were going to be throwing shit at me when I couldn't see them I'd just return the favor.

    Also, the tracking in the game was good enough that you could often attack blind once you were in a rhythm and by the time the camera catches up you've already killed a couple of the bad guys.

    Anyway, I noticed when watching the gameplay video that, -that- particular camera issue is still present, the character definitely walked through an arch and got hit with a projectile before the camera repositioned itself.

    Dawud

  • Archaotic

    @tobz1000: The dismemberment is still in Sigma 2, just not all the blood.

  • trailracer

    @bobtheduck: I think it's a little sad that a cosmetic/superficial detail like gore holds that kind of importance to you, over and above improvements to gameplay.

    trailracer

  • JimmyPewtron

    @Ironfistchinmi: I feel they owe 360 owners a patch or update, they just dumped the game incomplete and full of bugs on us, then ripped us off with the mission mode which broke the game, it was fixed eventually but they have abandoned the game, at least keep up with DLC.

    JimmyPewtron

  • zlimness

    @Jim81Jim: Except he removed the only decent improvement from the last game: The gore. No Gore. No Go.

  • detto

    Hm, Xbox360 users meeting?

  • SnakeCL

    @Thomaticus:

    I would've supported the "original" if Itagaki hadn't been a buttmunch and made it 360 exclusive.

    Considering I've been a "supporter" of his other series, DOA, since before he went all MS fanboy, I don't think anyone owes anyone anything.

    SnakeCL

  • Deuce

    Probability that those bitching about the reduced gore only own a 360: roughly 95%

    Does anyone really think NG2 was as good as the original?

    This isn't the early 90s, people. If you need to see blood n' guts to make your games enjoyable, go play Mortal Kombat.

  • Ricardo Freitas

    @BritBloke916:
    ^^

    Ricardo Freitas

  • Thomaticus

    Did it really take 12 extra months of development just to get the camera right? I'm definitely going to get Sigma. IT does bother me that everyone got support Itagaki w/ the Original NGII (360) pretty much got the shaft with a shoddy game. Team Ninja should (if possible) release a patch. Don't let the people who support the original game suffer.

  • Shinta

    @Santar: Exactly, even in Ninja Gaiden 1 on XBOX 1 you could see the severed heads.

  • Shinta

    @bobtheduck: I'm with you bob.

    Shinta

  • Shinta

    @Luke Plunkett: Now I'm extra confused. I encourage you to watch some footage of the game on 360, and the game on PS3 and tell us what you think after it's been pointed out.

    Shinta

  • tobz1000

    @Komrade Kayce - Soviet Attack Dog: I'm disappointed about the gore as well. the insane dismemberment on my friend's 360 was a standout to me. Ah well... what's that, GoW3?

    tobz1000

  • Muramasa

    @Shinta: Wow, stop being so butthurt dude.

  • WFROSE

    @You Are My Friend!: I still have Ninja Gaiden, Ninja Gaiden Black, and Ninja Gaiden Sigma...

  • WFROSE

    @MDX: There was only one time I actually had even a slight issue with the camera. Forgot the stage number but it was at the start of the stage in the cavern where you have to run across that green acid while killing those tube worm things. If you're still against the door, the camera isn't going to swerve around to your back, even if you pull the trigger. You just have to move out a bit from the door to get it to place behind you.

    Other than that, the bitchfest I hear about the camera in NG2 I never understood. I think many people were just too slow for the game :p

    Anyhow, I'll pick this version up myself, if for the extra playable characters.

  • Shinta

    @BritBloke916: I have nothing against adding an Easy mode that doesn't effect Normal mode or the rest of the higher modes. Ninja Gaiden Black had a difficulty setting just for that, and that's great. If you pay for it, it is rough to not be able to see it all.

    Shinta

  • BritBloke916

    @Shinta: Wouldn't it be a better idea for the game to simply have a "hardcore" difficulty setting (something along the lines of Legendary in Halo) rather than simply being totally inaccessible to the majority of gamers right out of the box?

  • Muppsatan

    @JahB: broken camera is indeed an exaggeration bad choice of words by me, the second point i made was referring to NG1 which had stupid save game locations because the guy i answered wrote "Just don't go around bragging for beating shit like it's a huge deal because I'm sure this game will be alot easier too." in which he obviously refers to the first NGS, personally i never had more than 2 hours of NG2 so i can't comment on overall quality or difficulty. Also Itagaki is not really some kinda genius you people make him out to be he is just a damn rude guy who have some fundamental values(games should be hard, deep gameplay wise)that i personally love and im guessing most "hardcore" gamers would but that does not make him a genius or even that great.

  • BritBloke916

    @Grinman: I'm greedy enough to want both a fantastic camera and a ton of gore, so I'll just have to wait for God Of War 3 :)

  • Shinta

    @BlueToast was a jerk(is now an A**hole): I guess I can give you that one. Good point. I'm getting regardless because of the extra content, and keeping both versions.

    Shinta

  • webkatt

    i haven't seen the videos but i'm kinda saddened by the whole less gore thing. i've heard they were gonna tone it down (make the amount of blood less extreme) but so far all i read online is that they are basically replacing blood with purple puffs of smoke, which is lame. it's kinda like the e.t. thing of replacing guns with walkie talkies.

    webkatt

  • JahB

    @Muppsatan: "broken camera"? "retarted save game locations"?? wtf are you on about?

    camera was a bit dodgy at times, but 99% of the times it worked fine, and the only complaints i had with the checkpoints were that there were too many of them.

    all that's being done to it now is to lower the age ranking and make it more "accessible" (translation: easy) to milk it as much as possible. this shit would have never gone down if itagaki was still around

  • BlueToast the pretty good.

    @Shinta: The resolution is better. I think it LOOKS a little clearer too. I'd say that's an improvement.

    BlueToast the pretty good.

  • BlueToast the pretty good.

    @uchennaokafor: But you didn't buy this game. You bought "Ninja Gaiden 2". And the game that they're talking about here for PS3, is called "Ninja Gaiden SIGMA 2"

    So you can't feel like it's unfair. Just like with C&C:RA3.

    BlueToast the pretty good.

  • Muppsatan

    @Shinta: oh that's annoying guess one can make up for it by doing the first playthrough on hard i guess.

    @azr: Excellent way to start of by dismissing the fact some people take pride in overcoming challenges rather than discuss as to why said person feels like he does

  • Muppsatan

    @bobtheduck: while i love me some gore and just about any weird stuff, what sells Ninja Gaiden to you people is the Gore levels? That's freaking ridiculous. Dismemberment is still there game mechanics are the same+ lot's of minor fixes and improvements and you got the nerve to bloody negate the improvements because of less gore. You sir piss me of to a great extent

  • Shinta

    @Muppsatan: Apparently several bosses have been completely taken out, and several others were altered. So it will be quite different. I'm still excited for the additional content. Having both versions seems to be the way to go.

    Shinta

  • Muppsatan

    @Shinta: A game made harder by broken camera and retarded save game locations is what we would call "bad design" and NOT catering to the hardcore. But yes i believe you when you say it's being toned down even beyond that which is in a way annoying(anyone know if the annoying bossfights were broken in any way?).

  • Shinta

    @azr: Why are you determined to just fuck with me? Leave me alone.

    I have yet to see anything improved, it's a factual statement. The camera is completely fine if you can move it yourself, set the options menu settings on what is most comfortable to you, and use the button that moves it behind you. It's 100% controllable, 100% of the time.

    Shinta

  • azr

    @Grinman: I did not say NG2's gameplay was bad, I said it had a bad gameplay mechanic.

  • Dylon Detha Nolte

    Something to probably note: Ninja Gaiden 2 used the old Ninja Gaiden engine from the Xbox, which wasn't 100% compatible with the new stuff they were trying to do. This seems to be using the one they used in Sigma, which was built around the PS3.

    I was impressed at how much of a different, detailed game it was in comparison. The only "problem" is there isn't really any blood besides Ryu's. Only purple mist or goo, intended to make the game "sexier" or to accomplice the game's "sexy style". I don't like it.

    Dylon Detha Nolte

  • Grinman

    @azr: Ninja Gaiden 2's gameplay was VERY far from "bad". And yes, in a game that revolves completely around cutting things up with a sword; I want to see my hero ACTUALLY CUT THINGS UP with a sword.

    Grinman

  • Shinta

    @MDX: It's almost like an urban legend now, the terrible Ninja Gaiden 2 camera that no one can really explain why it's actually bad ... what would actually make it better.

    Shinta

  • azr

    @Shinta: Oh I guess the horrible cameras was part of it being a hardcore game huh?

  • Shinta

    @azr: I have yet to see anything that's improved. I see additional content, and missing content.

    Shinta

  • sybnios

    PS3 fanboys.. "Did not like Ninja Gaiden II much.." The camera could be better ok but was not that much of a problem at least for my gaming abilities.. And of course the visual would be better for a 12 month later release. The graphicsa would be better even on 360 if Sigma was released..

    @azr: Um ... yeah, okay.

    Shinta

  • azr

    @Shinta: Your e-penis must be as hard as the games you play.

  • Shinta

    @azr: I can understand not being a hardcore gamer, that's fine. I'm not going to force it on anyone. But Ninja Gaiden II is one of the last hardcore games left, so yeah, make fun if you want. It happens to be a genre of game that is being toned down to be a shitload easier.

    Shinta

  • Legendary Hoamaru

    @Gorilla Snow is Maximum Risky: LOL that's a good one.

  • josh924

    @MDX: Me neither. I've always treated the L Trigger as part of the controls for NGB/NG2 rather than an option that happened to be there (like being able to bring up your karma score in NGB).

  • azr

    @Shinta: Damn. I wish I could be hardcore like you. =/

    Gaming is serious business.

  • azr

    @FP_slomo788: It's in the article.

  • azr

    @Grinman: Do you really prefer bad gameplay mechanics and gore over improved gameplay mechanics and less gore (note: not no gore)?

  • azr

    @Luke Plunkett: From the trailers we've seen so far it doesn't really seem like there was a lot of blood gushing from dismembered limbs though, like you had in NG2. Looks like they've swapped it with pink mist or something.

    Not that I mind personally, this is a definite pre-order unless some negative previews start turning up.

  • Karisu-Zero

    I was really against Sigma, since it was made without Itagaki, and it didn't feel as well gameplay wise to me. However, the more I see video on Sigma 2, and the content that has been added to that (Co-Op Ninpo with Ryu & Ayane?), I might just have to get this when it comes out.

  • xyzl

    @Bedlam: Agrees. I know NG was never realistic, but that believable cringe you get when something epic happens, to you or enemy, was what made NG1 and 2 so awesome. The blue puffs look so childish and really kill it for me... They make me feel like i'm killing some polygonal dolls...

    Looks like there's no more suicide bombers too, all the decap'd ninja's just do grabs and stab you in the video's i've seen...

    xyzl

  • Santar

    @Santar:
    At least in all the pictures and movies that I´ve seen to be clear.
    I have never seen any evidence that you will se flying limbs in the game.

    A real shame as even in Ng ang Sigma 1 you could at least cut off heads and see them flying off and not just poff into purple smoke.

    Santar

  • Santar

    There are no flying limbs in this game. Limbs just instantly disappear into purple smoke when you cut them off.

    Santar

  • xyzl

    @Jim81Jim: I wouldn't confirm this just yet, simply because they didn't let Luke on the controls.
    and @uchennaokafor: no, it's not unfair to us 360'ers... We've played this thing to death a year ago. And there's no such morale as "equality" for consoles.
    I too would've liked an update, but Hayashi already confirmed NO in a 1up interview... T_T
    If that means we get to play NG3 sooner (also mentioned in that interview), then NG3 over that update anytime!

    xyzl

  • bobtheduck

    It's only too bad the fix includes less blood... That alone offsets the fixes and extra features. I mean, it's freaking ninja gaiden.

  • SG79

    @Bedlam:

    Instead of the blood particles, the purple ones are there. However, a Tecmo rep confirmed that the overall blood was toned down in the demo since the game isn't rated yet. They didn't want to push it in a public convention.

  • Santar

    @SG79:
    You will not see any flying limbs whatsoever in sigma 2. When you cut of say an arm, it instantly disapears in a poff of pruple smoke.

    Santar

  • Bedlam

    @Luke Plunkett: Well, it seems like they toned down the gore significantly. Instead of those awesome blood effects of the 360 version they have blood puffs/clouds and severed limbs glow blue instead of showing flesh.

    Bedlam

  • Luke Plunkett

    @Mit: Gore is still there. Didn't bother mentioning it, because, well...it'd be like saying "Ryu is in it"

  • SG79

    @Mit:

    No, but dismemberment and NGB/NGS style blood is in. You'd be hard pressed to see a game with those features rated T.

  • Mit

    THE GORE, IS IT IN OR NOT?

    Did ANYONE ask at E3? Clearly everything they've been showing is gore-free, but I'm curious as to whether or not they've considered including it as an option. It's not like they're going to get any ratings lower than Mature with this game. An age option that increases the gore in the game would be great.

  • RagingAvatar

    Will definately get this.

  • Bonuslevel

    Oh, I liked NGII much (I even like Ninja Blade and that's just a rip-off! :)) So I'm looking forward to getting it for my PS3 and playing it all over again with all those sweet extras.

  • Jim81Jim

    @uchennaokafor: I am one of those 360 owners. Sad but true we'll just have to live with a dud of a title.

    All hail Yosuke Hayashi: Fixer of Itagaki's bullshit

    Jim81Jim

  • Ueziel

    I never really had a problem with the camera not keeping up. I just had a problem with every enemy being able to attack me from any distance, all the time, even if they were completely off-screen on the other side of the area.

    Just don't go around bragging for beating shit like it's a huge deal because I'm sure this game will be alot easier too.

    Shinta

  • Bedlam

    @Grinman: Yeah, I wonder why they got rid of those great blood effects of the 360 version. Now most of the time there are these blood clouds/puffs or whatever instead and severed limbs glow blue. Strange, I like most of the improvements but the gore will be missed.

    @Jim81Jim: But isnt this kinda unfair on 360 owners who already bought the game? Here's hoping for an update or something to improve with the fixes shown here.

    @MDX: Me neither.

    @Grinman:

    Dismemberment is intact so you'll see those flying limbs, but they're not as bloody. There is at least one new weapon among many other revisions.

  • SG79

    @FP_slomo788:

    The E3 demo only consisted of the first level with Ryu and another part for Ayane. The Ryu portion ended with a new cutscene showing off a possible new boss battle, a giant Buddha statue.

    I'd rather have a perceived bad camera and limbs flying around all over the place than a slightly better camera and no gore.

    @ph15h: Golden Sun. The Last Guardian! Natal:

    Thats my current reaction.

    I kept thinking that the speed of the game was the reason for the unfixable camera.

    I'm just as stunned as you.

    However, it looks like Sigma 2 has cut down on a lot of the gore... but screw it, I'll take a fixed camera over gore any day. Theres nothing more annoying than losing sight of what your Ninja is doing.

  • SG79

    @Goldwings: Knows the reason for his avatar pic.:

    I'd keep the old version since it'll be the bloodiest of the two and some boss fights were nixed in Sigma 2 (the more annoying ones).

    NGII is only $20 new anyway nowadays, so you won't be getting much for it.

  • FP_slomo788

    Doesn't it have online co-op as well?

  • Trumpet

    i cna't wait for this game. i nearly purchased a 360 for this and Gears but held off after i heard about the camera issues. the only question i have is regarding the blood and gore, is it still there? A lot of the pictures and videos i've seen seem to be missing it.

  • You Are My Friend!

    I'm probably going to look like an idiot having two copies of the same game just a couple inches away from each other on my shelf, but hey, I don't care!

  • Megamoppy

    From what I played I didn't even notice the camera but I bet when i go back to play it now i won't be able to stop noticing how bad it apparently is.

  • SG79

    Day one for sure, but going by some vids, including a walkthrough by Hayashi, the E3 demo suffered from mid-level loading and slowdown that crept up with Ryu's part often. It varied so it's undoubtedly a case of unoptimized code at this point.

    I know that E3 demos aren't prepared overnight in general, and since the game is months away from release, here's hoping it's smooth by release. NGII's slowdown before and after the patches were REALLY annoying.

    Sigma 2 also has at least one other "revision" if you will. Chapter 9's twin dragons fight (shooting gallery basically) is now a one on one fight with one of them on the ground.

    Lastly aside from the noted visual improvements, it's 1280x720 unlike the original 1120x585.

  • flappy

    I loved NG2 on 360 except those levels where framerate droped...if they'll improve this it's going to be ultimate action game.

  • MDX

    I never had a problem with the camera.

  • lbmanuel1

    Yeah, it's good to hear it's much better than before. Definitely gonna get this! I wonder if all that extra content will be ported over to the 360? OH and when can we see the Dead or Alive series back on playstation?

  • ph15h: *insert statement*

    @Jim81Jim: This.

    The camera was horrendous in the original. It randomly lagged and clipped.

  • Goldwings: Knows the reason for

    Firstly, and most importantly, the camera has been vastly improved over NG2's shoddy system (which was the main reason I never really got into the 360 game). No longer will it get stuck behind walls, or lag too slowly behind your character; it's crisp, maintains a constant following distance and zooms in and out of the action smoothly.

    Consider my old copy sold and this version bought first day when it comes out. I don't care about polished graphics and extra modes. Not to say I hate new/better stuff, but to me that's just mushroom gravy (yummy), I just cared about playing the damn thing without wanting to murder the invisible camera person

  • ph15h: *insert statement*

    Holy crap, they fixed the camera? :o

    Well... I didn't like the first Sigma remake (I preferred NG:Black), but I guess I'll look into Sigma 2. It's shaping up nicely compared to Sigma 1 and NG2 on the 360. I'm not really that big into HD gaming, but if it's looking better than the 360 version (not to flamebait), that's cool too :D

  • Ironfistchinmi

    I still loved the game for all it's flaws on the 360, so I'll pick this up for sure.
