A One-Two Shot Of Doc Louis’s Punch-Out!!
Club Nintendo of America is giving away a trio of exclusive prizes to members in good standing, the club announced earlier today. One of those is Doc Louis’s Punch-Out!!, a WiiWare title based on the Wii game Punch-Out!!.
This is what it looks like. An awful lot like the Wii-imagined Punch-Out!!, obviously, but with the ability to box Little Mac’s trainer Doc Louis. You’ll also have the opportunity to be gently touched by Doc, as seen in the other screen shot Nintendo released today.
Looks amazingly comforting, doesn’t it?
I’m still on the fence about which of the three items I’ll choose, but leaning heavily toward Doc Louis’s Punch-Out!!. I’m all set on hats, thanks.

@excel_excel: He'll touch us right??
I'm opting for the Mario Hat. While an exclusive game is cool in it's own respect, this is something that Nintendo should be giving away free to everyone as a demo for Punch Out!! And yeah, I really don't know how I obtained Platinum so easily...I have about 15 Wii games, and about 10 DS games...Though I'm very (see: entirely) partial to first party games.
@DaveKap:
is there anyone else willing to do this as well by any chance?
@The_Saint: If you're a plat member now, you'll get your reward next year. So, whatever Nintendo games you get now, don't register them until next summer.
@Archaotic: I'm torn on this. I'd really prefer the calendar to either the hat OR the download code... is there no way for Platinum members to get the Gold prize? I hate the idea of all the money I spent getting me either (as you put it) essentially a demo, or a hat I'll never wear... (and slightly freaks me out, to be honest)
@csanders984:
It's not as hard as you think. Not only did I reach Platinum, but by smartly saving my post-play surveys and DSi registration till after June 30th, I'm already a Gold member for this current year.
Moonspark
@Crash__Man: Unbelievably, I might. I'll notify you when I get the hat. ;)
i don't need a demo, I got the hat, should be worth something one day.

@fearing:
Oh, Hi there Mr. Resident Evil 4: Wii Edition, What's that inside your box? A Club Nintendo code...
Perhaps it's different over here in bizzaro world (England)
William Wade
I picked the Mario hat without hesitation, I mean this Punch Out thing will be entertaining for what, like 10-15 minutes.
With the Mario hat I can pretend I'm Mario, woo women who wear pink dresses and live with mushroom men, have on hand every year a half hearted last minute costume, and best of all put it on my cat and take funny pictures.
There's just way more value in the Mario hat.
Despacio
@Nitrokart: Oh god. The Horrors.
Skyman747
@emeraldgsl: Yeah, im getting the hat. Hopefully it has "Club Nintendo" or something like that on the tag so it can fetch a higher price on ebay : )
Skyman747
@moosemastr: Same. We have till August 11th, so no rush.
Skyman747
@arthurborko: Yeah, try calling them. I remember when Club Nintendo was first opening for NA and I was having trouble importing my MyNintendo account. I called them up and they did it manually for me. Such nice people :)
Skyman747
@csanders984: quite simple actually, I just took the codes out of the gut display copies at Gamestop.
Is it me, or did the hat look pretty crap. Too fuzzy. Going with the doc.
n8n8baby
@Kynes: Thing about licensing money is that Nintendo gets it whether the product sells or not. It really wouldn't be in their best interest to give away free stuff to people who didn't directly give their money to Nintendo for the games.
@sentroshi: They said it will never be available again.
n8n8baby
@Skyline7284: I didn't read that much sarcasm into the all caps...I just read that he was using caps for emphasis. It makes sense that they would only do it for their games.
n8n8baby
@Skyline7284: I think you're missing the point that Club Nintendo is funded by Nintendo. All the prizes are paid for and shipped by Nintendo. What benefit do they get out of giving away prizes if you only ever bought third party games (and thus, never gave them any money). Monetarily speaking, that is not a very good idea.
@csanders984: I don't know about everyone else, but I just entered in all the codes from all the games I had bought over the last couple years that were first-party. Most of the codes worked for the club.
The hat looks crap, so the DLC it is. I think it's a pretty cool little bonus, myself.
n8n8baby
@csanders984: Try going to Blockbuster and asking for all their codes. Also, you can register the same game twice if you set up a family account.
@fearing: RE4 Wii comes with a registration code. so does umbrella chronicles. it's not a third party thing, it depends on the game.
laencythe
WOO HOO! I'm getting the hat!
@The_Saint: Contact Customer Support. Nintendo is famous for it's awesome positive customer support. Explain to them the situation, you didn't know, you didn't realize and they might grandfather you in!
@Skyline7284:
It is a valid point, but unfortunately, Nintendo has made it clear from the get-go that Club Nintendo is valid for its own videogame hardware and software.

Wow, Little Mac can finally get back at him for stealing his bike all those times.
Damn website is broken...I can't get anything.
Doc Louis should have been in the game to begin with. I was hoping they would have worked him in as either playable or fightable since I heard of the game.
Well at least 1 of the prizes was cool. Glad I made it to Platinum. Ordered myself a Mario Hat.
Doc reminds me of that boxer guy from the movie Batteries Not Included.
yea, I too am a lowly Gold member (wasn't that an Austin Powers movie? =P )
... anyone wanna trade me their Mario hat for a sweet calendar?? =P
Crash__Man
@fearing:
That makes sense, because it's not like Nintendo makes any licensing money from third party games, right? Oh wait, they do? Well, strike that then.
@csanders984:
Did you do all of the surveys? I have a ton of DS games but relatively few Wii games and I made platinum. I think I might've even had some GC games that qualified. I don't think there's a chance in hell I'll make Gold or Plat next year though.
@armyofwires: i'm still a little confused as to whether this is a stand alone download, or if it's dlc that i need the retail version to play. i was all about the hat because i still don't have the retail punch-out, but if it's stand alone, it puts me back on the fence.
putermcgee
@SadAstronaut:
If I see either of you flaunting your brand new caps in front of me, I'mma knock it off your stupid heads.
HUMPH! *pouts*
Yeah this really just looks like a demo for Punch Out. Not worth it at all.
@fearing: He was making a valid point, your Sarcasm isn't really needed is it? (If there is no Sarcasm in your post, then i apologize). I think if i buy any Wii or DS game i should get atleast some points for it. Same goes for peripherals like extra Wii-motes, Numchucks, etc.
Don't let 4chan get a hold of that second screenshot...
AWESOME! ah Doc, he'll teach us right
@serotoninzero: Should have stuck with 600 and put the rest aside for the following year. I only had like 310, so it's cheap calendar for me.
Ganji
@Dillinger23:
Same place as this version will go?
@Superlocke:
Well, not entirely down the drain. He'll get the calendar.
Ouch.
How do you guys get so many points ? I feel like I'd have to spend thousands of dollars to reach platinum or gold level.
I have a DS (R.I.P), Wii, DSi, about 20-25 games, controllers, an extra wheel for Mario Kart and a few things for the Gamecube days...and i still am no where near getting myself a sweet Mario hat. :-(
@Superlocke:
No, no, they DO. I paniced as well, I have a rather large chunk of change. Your coins DO REMAIN. If you had 1,110 when June 30th rolled around, you will still have 1,110 when July 1st hits. It's just your status that resets.
The hat all the way. As much as I wish I could also get the Punch-Out, I can see myself using the hat a lot more.
I went with the Calendar (not that i mind, i would actually love to have an Animal Crossing calendar). The Mario hat looked neat but the quality would worry me.
@The_Saint: Weird I never took any of the surveys and I ended up with 890 coins with all my stuff well putting me over the 600 limit. The surveys are only worth 10 coins how many did you have to do?
I'm kinda torn between this and the hat, but since I don't have broadband I'll probably end up getting the hat.
Funny... I thought buying the product to BEGIN WITH was your treat... You know, it's not like you donated money to them. Get over yourself. Besides, those "surveys" can easily be fudged, but I don't do that. Because just maybe, MAYBE, if everyone said the same thing about annoying/negative aspects of their games, PERHAPS! they would listen and change a few things. But this is just me being CrAzY!!! here...
CraigJapants
@The_Saint: Well, you'll be eligible for next years prize.
@bakagaijin: Yeah, it's that way with all third party games. Club NINTENDO is for NINTENDO products, so if it's not published by NINTENDO you won't get a code to register unfortunately.
@WhatTheFrag: I don't seem to be able to edit out the double post of the video. :/
@Archaotic: Also, you can't sell DLC on ebay in 10 years for hundreds of dollars.
@Andrew Hodgson: And where would you have them save it to?
Dillinger23
You know what Nintendo - You want to taunt some people don't you?
Oh yeah I still remember that advert
@ebakrevs: lmao! nice F.M. Ref, ;D
@NeVeRMoRe666: yeah canadian here, and as of today the hat is on it's way here to me. Was considering the downloadable game but.... meh. I'll just buy punch-out if I really wanna play punch-out.
Superlocke
@fearing: actually, since his points from this year dont carry over I'm pretty sure he has to start from scratch. 500 coins down the drain, ouch..
Superlocke
All I could afford was the calendar. But then again, I don't own a Wii or wear red...
Unfortunately I'm only a Gold member, so I had to get the calender. I'd really wish I could have that hat...
I like the idea behind Club Nintendo, and I'm glad they offer us something like this, but my main problem with it is that not all games can be registered. For example, I purchased Devil Survivor last week, and it doesn't come with a registration code. It seems to happen with alot of third party games.
I'd like to see Nintendo allow us to register all our games, not just a select few.
I had a shit-ton of registered products, so I went to see what status I had and found it was nothing... because I hadn't taken their stinkin' surveys. It wasn't enough that I proved I spent thousands of dollars on their products by taking the time to register them, I had to give them an opinion on damn near all of them to get credit for it.
Sure, NOW I'm a platinum member with over 1,100 coins, but I'm 2 weeks late to be eligible for either Doc's Punch Out or the Mario Hat... *sigh....
@fearing: Awww man... "It's OK, MC Double Def DP, you can have some of my chocolate bar." - Doc Louis
Maybe proof that Punch Out itself could have been a WiiWare title...
Who wouldn't want to box Carl Winslow?
Still haven't migrated my account, lots of wii games still unregistered, how many games takes to be a platinum member?
I'm more into physical items so I specifically chose the hat. There's a high chance I won't wear it but I really like something tangible. The Doc prizes sounds interesting but unless this is the ultimate impossible boss with a mario ref, I'm going to decline.
@NeVeRMoRe666: They do have one. I'm Canadian and I just got the hat.
SadAstronaut
I took Punch Out, but I'm bummed it's just a Wiiware download.
@fearing: Sorry meant the hat and calender :O, but yeah the punch out will probably never be released. Unless of course they want more monies D:
@Archaotic: I would have gone for the hat as well. And I would have worn it to keep the sun and Goombas outta my eyes. I wish they had a Club Nintendo for Canada and if they do, I wish I wasn't so god damn lazy to register.
It looks nice and I would have definitively took it if it was coming with a physical copy like a true collector item.
Hey, Hey, Hey is it me or does that look like fat albert all growed up?
FatalChaos
@MC Double Def DP: You had to get Platinum by June 30th so you are unforntunately too late. You can start for whatever next year's prize will be though.
@sentroshi:According to the club nintendo email this game won't be available anywhere else ever.
Sorry McWhertor. You don't have your choice of all three. Platinum members only get to choose from Platinum choices for some strange reason.
I went with the download. To me, this seemed like a missed opportunity. I think the addition of downloadable characters for the retail game would have made it a more solid package.
I will enjoy knocking Doc out and stealing his chocolate bar though.
Rawwar
Or, y'know, they could've done this as DLC for Punch Out.
Andrew Hodgson
Yeah, if I really want the hat I could probably save and go to eBay, but this less likely. Also if a download code is sellable (if your console is tied to your club nintendo account they might not even need a code) it'll probably be pretty pricey as it's obviously a one use thing. Then there's the calender, that's good for what, a year? Maybe a few extra months if they put more on there. It's so rare that I look at a calendar anyway, so yup, definitely going for the Doc. It's exclusive never to be released anywhere else nintendo software. If it actual came in a box with a physical disc it'd be a sweet collectable. As it is, it should still be pretty cool.
You know, I'm REALLY happy that I have three accounts.
liammiller18
@ShoopDaBoofs:
Does it really matter how people look at you outside? I could give a shit less, if that meant I could wear a bitchin' mario hat.
@Ps360facepunch: Yeah, that second one is real creepy.
@TheWon: What about the girls ...
Maybe panties :D
@sentroshi: Gah! I just posted this comment at 2:17 and it won't let me modify it! Rawr! Sorry, I meant club nintendo store, not any type of store D:
@Archaotic: If you ask me all of the options might as well be ephemeral in turns my use or value. Lol
ShoopDaBoofs
I'm just a measly gold member.......... *sobs*
@ShoopDaBoofs:
So? Who cares what other people think...I went for the hat as well.
@tralfaz23: No, sorry. They might put it in the store later which will be forever, but it won't be free I'm sure. If your a gold member all you get a nintendo themed calender. Sorry about that :'(
@ShoopDaBoofs: Who said anything about wearing it in public? At the very least, it might work for a Halloween costume in the future or something.
The important thing is, it's not just some ephemeral download code that essentially just leads to a demo for a game most hardcore Wii owners already have.
Still trying to decide between this & the hat. I'll most likely play this a few times, then it'll just sit on my Wii.
I need only 100 more points to become Platinum status and download this OTO WiiWare title. Unfortunately, I don't plan on buying anymore games this year :-(
will this be available to people that didn't make it to platinum status?
I was really tempted with the game but decided that having an intangible item was worth less to me than the tangible hat. If they had attempted to package this somehow physically, it would've been an instant choice for me.
havoks
@Archaotic: ..But all it is is a Mario hat. An article of clothing that will guarantee you are ostracized if worn in public.
ShoopDaBoofs
I wonder if Doc's a pushover, if so then that would explain Glass Joe's only win.
arniejolt
He stares into your soul.
thats his final blow
I got the Mario hat. Not really sold on Punch Out, as it is, and frankly, a downloadable bonus is not nearly as intriguing to me as a physical item.
I went with this! Maybe in the future they will add even more boxers.
