Arkham Asylum Behind The Scenes: Batman In A Box
Fan-favorite Batman writer Paul Dini neatly sums up Batman’s plight in this behind the scenes video for Batman: Arkham Asylum.
Dini’s breakdown of Batman’s situation in Arkham Asylum is an oversimplification, but oversimplification can be entertaining. Many of today’s games can be broken down to the point where they sound like the games of yesteryear. A hero trapped in a box filled with enemies might as well be the entire pitch for an early-80’s arcade title.

@Pepe Tinn: I'll get this and the sequel that has sandbox Gotham Day 1 as well!
@All the ladies love Mister Jack!:
Hell, yeah.
The only thing I could conceive of that could make this game better, from a conceptual standpoint seeing as I haven't played it yet, would be to add in the classic Batman: TAS soundtrack. Or even some modified version of the original theme, at least.
That'd pull this whole thing together nicely.

@Save me: Hahaha, nice.
@All the ladies love Mister Jack!: YES, everything that I've seen from this game look spectacular.
@Elpon: "Living At The Corner of Batman and Catastrophe"
As made famous by: MC Commissioner Gordon Feat. Robin Sucks
Yeah, horrible joke, whatever...
@hot_heart: yeah, the Batman & Son arc wasn't great, which was disappointing considering how awesome issue #666 was with the whole foreshadowing of damian's existence and batman's death.
i also agree anything he'd write would probably be WAY more complex (I just finished reading The Filth, holy geez...) but i really hope some developer takes advantage of him because overall he's one of the most original writers out there. closest thing to our generation's rod serling or philip k dick, imo.
dream scenario = morrison writing a dr who game developed by someone like bioware.
*drooool*
@Michael Dukakis - Mets fan: Can't put Batman in a corner...of a box.
@BruzeWayne: Maybe he was too busy with the "Batman's dead, now what the fuck do we do?" thing he was doing.
bain!! haven't seen him in a game in a while. Ive, she might go in the next movie if they do her right. Looks good, I just wish they didn't have that pause before his combo finishers, he did that in the movie but it wasn't the hole movie slowing down, just him. Its like how they abuse Light Bloom in Gears of War. Turn down the dam radiosity!
I imagined Batman sneaking around in a cardboard box.

That Joker with a huge gun art that was on the wall looked awesome.

August can't come faster.

@BruzeWayne: Did you see his recent run on Batman? No thanks!
But seriously, Morrison seems to always be interested in doing more than straightforward stories so I can see how they would pass involving him on this game.
Anything he had worked on would probably be a little more complex and would skew towards 'games as art'.
...but seriously, Batman & Son (barring the one at the art exhibition/museum with the cool visuals) was shit.
@dadeisvenm: That's something Lego Batman really dropped the ball on. Those sounds effects and bubbles should've been an unlockable. Wasted opportunity.
I sure hope there's a part 2 taking place in Gotham City and honestly, you can't any better of a writer than Paul Dini. This is one of the reasons, along with Rocksteady's hollywood quality production values, that this game is going to kick ass.
@dadeisvenm: To be honest that sounds kind of cool.

@Ted:
I believe he's suggesting that he will be buying the game "day one".
As will I.

@All the ladies love Mister Jack!: Me to *sqeee.*

My only concern is the pacing, in that I hope I'm not constantly kicking-ass. I want to kick some serious ass, but I'm hoping for some solid character interaction and stealth moments.
The screenshot above for the game reminds me of the second map on Nazi Zombies btw :D
GtheMVP99
Really quite excited, my only concern are some of the gameplay/animation complaints from hands-on previews were the journo says batman moves awkwardly stiff at some points. I want fluid movement for the caped crusader!
Agent55
@NKato: I'm going to have to take a second glance at it then, because at first glace it actually seemed to be the game, shrink wrapped and all.
But it may just be the display case until I find out for sure. Would make more sense if it was.
It keeps look better and better. The part before Bane did resemble Bioshock and the end looks brutal. I wonder what's the rating going to be.
Hezekiah Hicks
@nflsonic: That would actually be a display case.
@Pepe Tinn: Is this some crazy alternative to saying "First"?
@dadeisvenm: hahaha, 80s.
not even close. thanks for making me feel hella old.
@dadeisvenm: Don't you mean 1960's?
Christopher Murrie
Is it strange that I found Batman: Arkham Asylum for purchase yesterday at Toys R Us? It was in the game case for the PS3 and it showed the back cover of the Joker.
Didn't realize it comes out in August, but I may have to go back and take a picture of it. I would purchase it if it's supposed to be good.
quick disclaimer: I love paul dini and think his recent run on detective comics (which spawned a whole new title) with dustin nguyen has been AMAZING.
that said, i've been wondering why grant morrison was never involved with this project, considering its loosely based on his graphic novel (and i assume its not for lack of interest on morrison's part).

@dadeisvenm: oh yeah... gotta have the music.
I have only one feature/dlc request.
Retro Pack - a some what full re-skin of the game with a uber-clean 1980's throwback to the live action television series complete with onomatopoeia bubbles i.e. WHAM! BANG! OOF!
I hate this game so goddamn much already.
Why?
Mostly because the fucking thing isn't in my console allowing me to play it.
Ahhhhh please be goooood. I looks so awesome and i think almost nothing could go wrong at this point but i had the same view on Assassins Creed and that game let me down big time. Please just please be good.
Still on the fence with this one. I desperately want it to be good, but I have a feeling the combat is gonna get really repetitive.
I'm also not liking the idea of having to face all the villians in one game, almost makes them seem trivial in the grand scheme of things. Plus, how would you do an expansion if you beat them all the game before?
Bah, who am I kidding, I'll be getting this either way.
@Handsome Al:
It's my bat in a box!
My bat in a box babe.
It's my bat in a box,
Ooh, my bat in a box girl.
Awesome. I think I could even see the cape damage in the gliding bit at the end.
I wonder what happens if it gets too damaged. I hope he packs a spare.
@All the ladies love Mister Jack!: Me too. I'm actually considering buying it and I usually rent most games nowadays but it's sometimes hard to get new release games right away (I use an online/mail rental thing).
Over at your parent's house a Batman in a Box!
Mid-day at the grocery store a Batman in a Box!
Back stage at the CMAs a Batman in a Box!!
The game is looking good. Though if anything I'd probably just rent it when it comes out. Nothing really catches my attention to want to actually buy the game.
also...I want to pluck that man's eyebrows. just slightly....
@Michael Dukakis - Mets fan: Make her open the box. And that's the way you do it!
Why can't i go full screen? :( lol
I am excited enough for this game that I am hoping that there is a sequel even before I play it.
Sullyville
1. Cut a hole in a box.
Now that's what I'm talkin about. This game needs to hurry up and come out already. I can't believe I'm excited again over a Batman game.
You put your batman in the box then you give someone the box.
Day One!!!
