At Long Last, An In-Game Twitter Client For Warcraft
Do you spend six hours a day playing Warcraft and another three hours Twittering pointlessly? Well now you can spend nine hours doing both!
With TweetCraft, WoW gamers get a fully-featured Twitter client that, of course, allows you to send and receive in-game – but also schedule your Tweet uploads, send in-game screenshots, and auto-tweet whenever you log in, get an achievement or enter an instance.
I’ll confess to being bored and switching over to Twitter almost by reflex, just to see what’s going on. This kind of multitasking seems like it mostly furthers stereotypes about WoW players and the triviality of Twitter content.
Oh hell, they even made a demo video for this thing. Here, check it out.

@WingsOfDaidalos: Yet, thanks to twitter, it was much easier for the people of the world to see what was truly going on in Iran faster than even normal websites could let us see. There's no way to censor twitter from an Iranian gov't standpoint.
Yeah, people could blog, but there is no central place to view all blogs. With the hashtag system, it was really easy to keep up with real-time events from any given person at any given time. Twitter was so important during that situation, that a few days into it, the US gov't asked Twitter to delay an update that would have brought the system down during the day in Iran, even though, it obviously would have been done during the night over here.
What twitter started out to be (the way you described it) is not what it is anymore; it is bigger than that and has a huge impact on the world. If you don't see this (and not just by letting everyone know what everyone is eating for breakfast), maybe you need to keep up with the times just a tad bit more.
@[twitter.com]:
twitter is more like a benign skin cancer, easy to diagnose, easy to treat. /b/ is advanced melancoma. it will kill you.

@Cheezsama: Yeah, I had to when I saw nobody else had.
@IntelSilver: HURR HURR social networking sites are SO stupid I can't begin to understand the kind of losers that would use these things. What are they for anyway? What the fuck is social networking? What kind of stupid name is FACE BOOK. What does twitter even mean? IS IT BECAUSE TWITS USE IT? LOLOLOO!22
FYI you are advised to criticise things you have actually made extensive use of. I won't remove my little love-heart from either of your names because I too was once a Twitter hater. The tweet box's rather ambiguous question of 'what are you doing' is not necessarily one folks on Twitter answer, at least the interesting ones anyway. Once you find the cool people to follow on Twitter, you'll find it surprisingly entertaining. Also note that most celebrities have the most boring Twitters imaginable, the site is great at exposing which of your favourite celebrities are about as witty as an infected toenail.

@GraywolfofMibu: again, I clarified that I mind it when it is not being used to direct a comment, like if I said I enjoy eating #food with @jon and @joan. THAT irks me. It has become prevalent (in that usage) due to twatter's 'coolness'.

@bangbangblah: See the comment above yours.
@Stealth_chill: No i just meant that an Elf cant be a mage, and there is no level 83 yet :p
@Paradox me: The irony is that "Can't really stand broken English either" is technically an incomplete sentence itself.

Yo dawg, I herd you like social networking, so we put some Twitter in your WoW, so you can waste your life while wasting your life.
Most epic trailer for a twitter client yet.

So....
You log in. You play a few games of Peggle. After that, you check your Twitter account. You decide to comment on someone. Then you chat a little with your friend, you check your email and send a reply to a few friends. A little Bejeweled and Texas Hold'Em... You've been there 2 hours now and you decide to log out.
"Oh! I almost forgot!"
You log in and set the bot doing it's thing. You log out.
It's no wonder people are insulting WoW when even the players are trying to get away from the games by all means possible. What the heck is it with these minigames and stuff, can't you just play the game?! Geez.
PS. I've never actually played WoW (well, for 5 minutes) so take these as my false assumptions. ;)

I see the point to Facebook + YouTube + LinkedIn and wish they were combined in one.
Allowing someone to see your status in Facebook in WoW fine as Facebook actually has value like photo albums etc. But twitter what is the point REALLY?

I make mistakes when I'm typing, everyone does, that's not what I was referring to.

Am I the only one who doesnt really know what twitter is, nor care what it is? Maybe Im out of touch being in japan and not really caring about the news, but seems to me like twitter just popped up out of nowhere and it doesnt even appear to be that useful.
RuneX21
Wow. Way to make Twitter even more annoying/pointless.
Daniel Lock
@Hamflank: Maybe not the internet as a whole, but Kotaku commenters as a community care about each others' posts, which is why we see the comments of the week and TAY sections. We care about these comments because they contribute insight or humor to certain discussions.
It's basically the same with Twitter. People who don't use Twitter usually only think of the people who use it for saying stupid and pointless things as a way of getting attention. There are lots of those people on Twitter. There are also lots of those people everywhere else.
Personally, I use Twitter for entertainment, communication, and learning. People can post funny and interesting things. Not everyone does, but more than enough do to make it worthwhile for me. Twitter is pretty much the internet equivalent of standing on your rooftop and shouting to all your friends. Depending on who's doing the shouting, that could be either very entertaining or very obnoxious.
@VampiricPadraig:
Which is pretty reliable.
Firelance
@deanbmmv:

@Monolith: Exactly. I love twitter, but I try to follow people who provide quality tweets. I enjoy reading what my friends and my favorite comedians have to say. I do not enjoy reading about people playing World of Warcraft.
@(Zombie) Jolan: I'm still annoyed at people how use aolspeak, even though most the people who use it now probably haven't even heard of AOL.
[www.hulu.com]
I don't think I like this. Please don't actually make twitter into everything that people who don't use it assume it is.
@Paradox me: There's an in-game web browser mod now. Its called Rogue or something like that.
@K1NG EV1L: I need to register SOCIALDOS.COM. Tell the world what you're doing no matter how inane in eight characters or less! SOCIALDOS.COM fits into your busy schedule and is perfect for those who want to share but no longer have the time to communicate in 140 characters let along full, coherent paragraphs.
@Man In Gauze is an obscure reference to Courage the Cowardl...:
Unfortunately that seems so, I forgot entirely about me writing it for about 30 minutes or so until I noticed I had the tab open. And that's no good.

@Stealth_chill: That post sounded like my mom talking videogames. It was an uninformed mess of mis-facts.
@IntelSilver: As with MySpace and other "networking" sites, it's a way for people to feel like beloved unique little snowflakes on the Internet amid the homogeneous sea of people these sites attract.
@Monolith: No one cares either way...the only people checking what you write is your friends - and only because that way you check theirs. Twitter is the most retarded concept on the internet, and people use it seeking acknowledgement.
Yes, I hate Twitter.
WingsOfDaidalos
@embef:
Peggle AND Twitter?! I'm sold
@Paradox me: I find it hilarious that you're missing punctuation in a rant that complains about lack of punctuation. >_>
@(Zombie) Jolan: to further clarify I'm fine with it being used in place of the word at, it makes sense. This post is directed at my previous one, as it clarifies it. But when referring to someone as at name, instead of name, you look retarded.
@undefined: with the @person I am talking when I see sentences like "Going to go see a #movie with @mike and @paul"
thats retarded.
Alriiiight. Now I won't have to alt-tab out of WoW. Ever. Again.
Miyae
@Paradox me: It's only annoying when someone uses nothing but netspeak, otherwise I see it as being just the same as any abbreviation or slang. It's for convenience, I don't see why it bothers people so much.
Also I've been avoiding twitter like the plague, I just don't see the appeal or point to it. Doesn't sound much different from Facebook's status or comment system. You make a small tidbit and it notifies everyone following you?
What's worse is how companies are using it in order to look trendy.
How do you kill that which has no life?!
The Amazing Exploding-Man
Mindless self-indulgence at its finest... This is a pretty fresh idea...

@IntelSilver: That's pretty much what it is.
@innovacious: Especially considering Kotaku (aka, you know, the site were on now) has always used it, and Kotaku is older than Twitter.
What is the point of this? Can't you guys just tweet using a steam overlay?
crayonmonster
@fnool: Seriously,they should be kept completely seperate, as their genres and levels of quality are VASTLY different. As in, Real Warcraft is in RTS form and is awesome. WORLD of Warcraft is an MMO and is mediocre.
@Paradox me: Play Wow with the Tweet add-on in Steam. It's possible :D.
Or go split screen, like I do, then you can do multi-tasking really easy. I just tend to WoW n watch a film.
@innovacious:
We use @name here xD
@(Zombie) Jolan: Keep in mind that Twitter is integrated to enough places that many of those people *are* on Twitter, and before getting pissed at "@person", note that kotaku comments do the same thing.
@fanboyish: Exactly how I use twitter, lol.
Aeralindor
"consensual stalking"
@IntelSilver: Isn't that the truth!
@deanbmmv: I realize the uses of @, but its use has surged since twitter became 'cool'
@Paradox me:" so you do tend to use @thatperson for that.
But Hashtags (#) would be pointless in anything but Twitter as it runs trends.
@Krigo: well look, your laziness got you ganked.
@Paradox me: Play WoW in Steam then you can browse in-game with the shift-tab.
Or use the Twitter client to get a feed of Kotaku headlines.
@Michael Forsberg: lol yeah, maybe now people will blame losing duels on "tweeting" rather than the age old "lag" excuse.
@EdgesRazor:
The concept of this new, brand spanking MMORPG is to mindlessly post your status all the time. See who can annoy each others friends the most and have the biggest ego of them all!
Remember, no cheating! ;)
Krigo
@Ninja Tree: Isn't "twitters" what they call the withdrawl during server maintenance a.k.a. Black Tuesday?
Maybe it's tweaking. Either way it sounds painful.
@(Zombie) Jolan: Most of the time when I see @ or # on Facebook, it's from someone who automatically has their tweets forwarded to Facebook as status updates.
Imagine if you could post on Kotaku, tweet and play WoW at the same time. Then you'd never have to do anything else again! Other than occasionally going outside every month or two.

And in other news today, human productivity has gone down thanks to the merging of two giant time sinks. This is expected to drop even further when facebook and xbox live merge.

@quidsquid: Give it a few months, and they'll have moved on to something else. It's not at all impressive, when you really think about it. Self-important people always love a new outlet to showcase themselves. First it was MySpace, then Facebook, and now we have crap like Twitter and YouTube.
Funny how people find Twitter narcistic and pointless, while the internet could care equally less about you posting comments on Kotaku.

Windows only, and requires an out of game program running. Cool idea, especially with the in game screenshot posting, just a shame it got locked to one platform to do it. I'm tempted to try an experiment: To see how many people would care about worthless achievements from WoW being sent over Twitter, I'm gonna create a new WoW character, use this addon and broadcast every mundane detail that happens. Then, see how many followers it will gain, then laugh if it gets any.
