Brazilian Kids Show Rips Off Little Big Planet
Children’s show Bom Dia & Companhia (Good Morning & Company) airs daily on SBT, one of the top three Brazilian TV networks. It also rips off LittleBigPlanet.
The network, reports tipster Bruno, is known for copycating.

@tetris2: Don't quit your day job, mate.
Devil_Dan
Sackboy look damned ill
wait, wait, wait
one of those green sackboys had a censored wang!
doughboyx
@sentroshi: Sorry, my apologies for being ignorant.
@sentroshi:
So you're one of those people that thinks America is the centre of the world, are you?
Europe IS part of the western world...
khdownes
@sentroshi: Ha, that was too funny!
SnoopyFish
ZOMG THE SKY IS FALLING, next story please.
chang187
I say that LBP ripped off sock monkeys. That's right, I said it!
masterdingo
@ca$h is now... The Day Man!: Little Big Planet was made in Europe, mate.
@Nâ—Gage Croal: Don't start it.
I don't even think that anyone can buy sh*t like this.
@Lucasreis: It's an sad truth. But I'm happy, he didn't even said anything about Amazon! (We all live in rainforests!)
@NoBullet: Yeah. I thought they would show something realated to LBP when I saw this opening.
As usual the West comes up with the ideas and the rest of the world rips them off. Nothing new, and I doubt it will stop anytime soon. The world outside the west just isn't that creative it seems.
@ShadowOdin isn't american: The name of this show was originally 'Love Promises'. Don't ask me what this has to do with ulgy mutants, though.
@Ethereus: Oh please promote this.
And btw, why are we all writing in english?
Just asking.
@apoloimagod: This is a show that show cartoons. I remeber watching it as far as my memories go.
That's what describes us brazillians: sex, beaches and copyright infrigiment.
Rip-off or not, we can agree that at least Sackboys are cute, these things look disgusting.
Rockabully
@Lucasreis:
Man I'm sure glad I live in Portugal, where the TV is all quality! Oh wait...
Ethereus
@Lokno: Gimmie a break. Its a blatant rip off, how can anyone say otherwise.
Scott J
@Acorn Pop: There may be a wang underneath that censor bar
No different than what you see in China.
yodaddy
I want to play as a naked sack boy, it would make my pelvic thrusts more disturbing.
@Fernando Jorge: maaaan! now that was a good show!
Doesn't really strike me as a rip off. There's a enough done different here stylistically.
@ZombiePuppy: hell yeah dude... hot blond hostesses for the win =p
@NoBullet: Not most of them. It needs an actual complaint form the copyright holder to be deleted.
@hazelnut - RIP Michael Jackson: I always preferred Transmorphers, myself
@Harvest-Moon-Warlord: They look exactly like sackboys, but green. Theyre tiny- living in a huge world. And the title screen is made up of "stuff". Youre blind.
@zyphe: Yeah, and they're taken down promptly because of that.
@apoloimagod: I'm pretty sure that showed up after lpb.
Fernando Jorge
@Alaron: there is a rocket in the opening. Or are you asking for a Wang Rocket?
@Drakulakun: There's an agreement between government and Sony for the production of consoles and games in Manaus. Sony has already said they were going to start the production this month as part of the plan for expansion of their market through Latin America. Also they have a program of game making incubation in Brazil.
@Acorn Pop: It has to also have a rocket.
@Cris_Spiegel: Agreed.
stretch
Unless there is an episode about a giant wang I don't see the connection.
Acorn Pop
@bobtheduck: I feel ashamed myself. Sure, Brazil has a lot of talented and original people, but most of them never show up because a lot of producers are afraid of trying something new and instead blatantly ask for the designers to copy from other successful jobs (be that movies, games, print, sites and etc).
Drakulakun
@EnigmaNemesis: Amen.
@Cris_Spiegel: I can't remember how many times Sony or someone said that, but never came true. This story has been going on since the first PSX, so don't hold your hopes yet. Unless the government cuts all the tax for producing games and importing, this will never happen.
Drakulakun
@togovero: You'd have a better chance if you thought of asses.
@tetris2: Ohhhh...snap!
I think the relevant question that nobody is asking here is: how long has that program been airing? Maybe it was the other way around? Well, the program has been airing since 1993... but the video shown is their new opening sequence, so yeah... it is a rip-off :-)
I wonder if the show is as overrated as the game.
I used to think brazilian kids' show were full of bouncing boobs... like in that Simpson episode XD
@zyphe:
Life is a copyright infringement.
@GoonerVance: It was developed in the UK, above a bathroom store I believe (seriously).
http://www.edge-online.com/magazine/things-make-and-do-littlebigplanet...
Brazil rips things off all the time
Rutty
Isn't the entire idea behind LBP to create and share? There are countless levels in LBP that could be considered copyright infringement.
zyphe
I'm amused at the timing of finding this a whole day after finding the Bioshock ripoff.
Jennacide
This is nothing like LittleBigPlanet, it's pretty clear those are Brazilian sackboys.
I'm not sure if Little Big Planet was developed in the U.S. or not, but why do we make trade agreements with countries without including intellectual property rights and the ability to prosecute the violation of those rights in some kind of international court. This crap happens all the time, and I think it's a major reason our country suffers. One of this country's natural advantages comes in the form of creating entertainment that is so good the whole world will purchase it, but then they just buck our shit. From pirating to just straight copying there's got to be billions in lost revenue from all that.
GoonerVance
@Lucasreis: Sony is bringing PlayStation brand and will distribuite their games and also ones from other studios. I'm sure LBP is already protected here.
@DaveStampeed: Hell, I always thought Brazilian porn couldn't get the best looking girls. Porn is only booming now here, so if one is a pretty girl, she has way more and better options of earning bucks and attention using her looks.
@Lucasreis: If that were the only problem...
@I Am Error: The console is called Zeebo and, man, it sucks! It costs US$263 and it's basically the gaming part of a cell phone without the phone part, but the games are badly ported. Not only it looks and plays lame, but at least one game shows a noticeable bug in the config menu for the gamepad that passed the control check. Hell, even the console menu is sluggish!
Well, current-gen here is expensive, but having the option to buy the PS2 for the same price or even cheaper, how can Zeebo succeed? Games for Zeebo are few and bad, while one has the option of buying some original PS2 games if he can (R$50 to 200 or US$26 to ~105) or piracy (R$5 to 10 or US$2.63 to 5.27 - or R$0.70 for blank media). There's a reason for one of the best PS2 modchips to be Brazilian, but Sony is bringing the Playstation brand here (yeah, only now), promissing local game distribution. Zeebo was born doomed.
@TamaraNowak: Also, I'm not Tamara Nowak. I have no idea why gawker associated my email with this login. Can somebody help me with this?
TamaraNowak
I'm not so sure it's a copy. They started giving PS3's and PSP's to participating kids a little while ago (they used to give only wii's and ps2's among other prizes on the roulette). I just assumed it was featuring LBP as result of agreement with Sony. I couldn't find the end credits on youtube, but I really recommend checking this out.
TamaraNowak
@sup_dawg: You know what? I never knew these cartoons were Brazilian. Huahuahauhaua!! They sell in department stores as generic versions of famous cartoons. I've never watched any of these rip-offs, they look pretty lame in the ads and I never knew a Brazilian company was fully engaged in this kind of stuff.
Lemme see:
Economy - checked;
Politicians - checked;
Crime and leniency - checked;
Over the top taxes - checked;
All sorts of rip-off - checked.
My shame - increasing.
Interesting contrast between this and the World of Warcraft He-Man homage a few posts back.

@Fernando Jorge: I miss those times so much!!
@Lucasreis: Ya the astronaut was a downloadable costume that only lasted a few days but yeah its identicle.
@ShadowOdin isn't american: That show was total awesomeness. It had aliens, werewolves, dinosaurs, mutants, ant people from underground, magic, clones, it had everything, not bsing.. It probably had time travelling too.
Fernando Jorge
Funny thing is, Id probably have more fun watching this than actually playing LBP.
Calverz
@Lucasreis: I liked much better when it was Vovó Mafalda hosting the show. Now that was original.
Fernando Jorge
@Ravenwulf: Is that ONE show?
It looks like a mash of a little bit of everything.
All wrapped up as a Soap Opera, because that is the quality of the filming, the sound and even the background-music.
Personally I loved when the kid was running by at a decent speed and the woman pressed herself against the wall all very calmly when in a normal situation you'd just step to the side.
man, i hope the next LBP can do what these guys do, hanging on ropes, holding items,...
btw, the crotch censor should be the next DLC
Heartless141
@Harvest-Moon-Warlord: I never saw the presentation of LBP but some people on youtube say that some parts, like the astronaut, are exactly the same.
@ZombiePuppy: Dude, I'm just trying to explain that not every network here copycats. I don't care if Globo is a villain or not, I just gave an example. Record are copycats too so I didn't use them as and example, understood?
Yeah, I remember when they had Jackie Petkovick, she was beautiful. I hate these new kids...
@Chances: Impossible, the new presentation for the show debuted in 2009.
@Lucasreis: Dude, don't get it started with Globo. They're a world mortal minds may not understand, and can only obey or try to resist.
Anyways. Daaammnn son, I used to watch this thing everyday. I remember when they had really hot blond hostesses instead of annoying kids.
ZombiePuppy
@I Am Error: Haha great comment!
That was the only comment that was over 3 sentences that i actually read!
@djricekcn: Brazil has a law for IP but obviously the producers made this because Sony isn't officially present here, so, this way, they saw a good opportunity to rip them off without paying. They made it everytime in the earlier decadas but in the Youtube generation it became impossible because the whole world can see what happens...
@Jon: Yeah wanna watch the ending?
The way that all the letters and background are made?
I'd say it looks nearly identical.
@ShiningDark: Good way to stereotype... although you aren't wrong. Brazil sells this sex image and it makes me ashamed...
@Ravenwulf: Record sucks, really... these shows are painful to watch.
Like I said, and I'll say one more time. Don't blame Brazil for all of the copycats found, blame the fucking company behind it. It is a fucking rip-off, indeed, but we're talking about SBT. FYI - SBT copies stuff all the time from other channels here and the owner, Silvio Santos, is always travelling to the US to get new ideas for shows (he does pay for the licenses) but they never really have anything original. They're a mix of mexican telenovelas with cartoons and shows ripped off the USA, that's it, no originality. Globo TV, on the other hand, has a lot of crap like their own telenovelas and whatnot, but they do make their OWN shit...
@492b2 3b5t5k4mk3 3ñx39: It's not a crap of a place to live, it's very enjoyable. The main problem here is that everything is expensive...
Their heads look more like potatoes than anything.
@TaylorEatWorld: You can't blame all of Brazil because some producers are copycats. Every country has things to be proud of and other things to be ashamed about...
@I Am Error: True words my friend... I know exactly how it is to live this reality...
I tried to tip this one three days ago but my work computer was so bad that I couldn't even copy the video to the e-mail. But I figured someone would do this... hehehe
You still have got some mutant show ripping off from X-men, X-files, hell..any show on TV!
it is made by record.
Brazil has lost its originality...although I question if they had it at all
@Go Go Gadget: Gizmo: thats what porn wants you to believe.
DaveStampeed
@Harvest-Moon-Warlord: I'm pretty sure its a similar copy to one of the trailers (or maybe even the intro movie) for LBP. When i find it, I'll inbed it.
I don't really see the point being made here, sure they are small with round heads, but thats as far as the resemblance goes.
Harvest-Moon-Warlord
O.K. so its Saturday morning as I'm reading this...sun rays are creeping though my blinders and I think I'm still drunk....no, no. no. I know I'm drunk because I'm still drinking, hold up, let me reach for my cup of Keystone Ice, lol. Got it. Look at my cousin on couch knock the fuck out! Lol. Anyway. I don't get why Brazilians are commenting and acting all surprised. You are all obviously not Brazilian enough to know that Brazil is the #1 pirate stronghold of all things videogame related with regards to Latin America. This isn't because brazilians are a bunch of cheap fucks but its because the government has a stiff law with regards to foreign videogame related goods, whether its software an/or hardware related. I'm talking sometimes over 100 dollars more in tax for a imported (what you know as domestic) hardware purchase. Thats why they got that PS2 like system that lets you have downloadable games instead of official hard copies... forgot the name....I know some of you know what I'm talking abou (it was featured on Kotaku)...anyway. It doesn't occur to most Brazilians and/or South Americans that this show its a copy of the PS3 since more than 95% of them never actually had playtime with the PS3. Its going to take them a while for them to figure out.
@492b2 3b5t5k4mk3 3ñx39: And women. Damn Brazil has some sexy females.
I like Snakes on a train, Ratatoing, Little Bee and Gladiformers.
After watching those movies, my face turned out like this

@AnalysisDialysis (and a MudkipNDS): Are you.. fucking kidding me? Brazil.. have you no SHAME?

@Blitzgrilo: Pocohontas one...now!
That raccoon had the best reaction faces for the internet and along with that 24/7 scheming Priest in that hunchback of notradame one.
@AnalysisDialysis (and a MudkipNDS): I want back 2:02 minutes of my life back. I would expect it to be shipped by express shipping so I could refrain from wasting more of my time....;-; Why...Why did I watch everything!? WHY DID YOU EVEN POST THIS!? Oh god my eyes!
brb found a right eye on the floor.
@Bildo818: This is Brazil, do not underestimate them...
I am wondering if it is weirder that they had to censored something on a children's show or that they censored a sack boy...
Alpengeist
For a Brazilian show, it didn't have enough Sack-boobs or Sack-ass and had too much Sack-sac. (even though it was censored)
ShiningDark
@Bokusatsu_Tenshi: Yeah, chances are they're the only ones doing this... but Goddamn.
@Nâ—Gage Croal:
I heard about this... but to tell the truth, there aren't many people making crap like that in Brazil. In fact, there aren't many 3d movie studios in Brazil at all...
I really don't know where they get the money to do it, because seriously, I never saw anyone watching those rip-offs... I saw a commercial stand in some event once, and the quality was very very crappy.
My guess is that it's probably one studio, funded by government money (cultural incentive or something like that), that probably makes those cheap rip offs and keeps all the rest of the money. Corruption scam or something.
Also, I think the idea started after a brazilian guy (Carlos Saldanha) became famous for being behind the Ice Age movies... he started co-directing the first movie, and now is the director for the second and third titles.
Bokusatsu_Tenshi
Oh WOW, I'm brazilian and I didn't know about this.
And it's a pretty famous show for kids too...
And wait- is that a running sackboy with censored genitalia? HOLY CRAP
Bokusatsu_Tenshi
Have you seen their logo? Now THAT'S a major rip off.
rafacst
Here it goes.
Rafael Silva
Have you seen their logo?
Rafael Silva
The funny thing to me is that; if this is a kids show, why purposely box out the fake sack person genitalia? Its not like they were really going to be showing anything swinging around!
Bildo818
@icedrake523: Zippers are indecent.
well that's south america for you. Crap of a place to live, really- (except food, we totally kick ass there)
492b2 3b5t5k4mk3 3ñx39
@AnalysisDialysis (and a MudkipNDS): I remember Ratatoing... There was also a cars rip-off. Didn't realize this was Brazilian, though. That sucks. I'd be embarrassed if I were Brazilian...
At least when the US rips stuff off, we make it a little higher quality

D-K, owhoo... how unfortunate..
Eh, Brazilian studios rip off EVERYTHING. Here are some fine examples of "brilliant" and "original" 3D animation from BR:
Why did they put a censor bar?
icedrake523
@Blitzgrilo:
well, since we're talking about shit... i remembered that nice PS2 game for Europe
Blitzgrilo
I think the PS3 doesnt have a " legal representant" here in Brazil... So LBP doenst "exists" here too. =p
errmm..turtleboy? except they dont have their backshell attach to it :D
@Noodle-Works: ha ha.. yup
topogigio
BR? HUEHUEHUEHUEHUE!
SolidOni
not to off-topic but did sephiroth sackboy costume joined the Lifestream already?
Blitzgrilo
typo in title. please fix before this goes live! wouldn't want to look unprofessional...
anyways, on topic:
LBP is awesome, so its not a surprise that people are trying to copy it.
just like TF2.

how does IP work with countries that have no law for it (not saying this country doesn't, but I'm sure not all countries have a IP law, or at least working at the same way)

It hurts, Ness, it hurts... >.
EDIT: My eye!! WHERE IS MY RIGHT EYE!? Also added figurative arms.
Heh the other day a news site was saying LBP had ripped off the show. Assuming Kotaku's done some digging into the subject, it's nice to hear Media Molecule's creative reputation is unsullied.
Their Sackboys are less cute and more creepy. I think it's their cold, soulless eyes.
This doesn't surprise me.
Why?
Have you seen the Pixar ripoff movies from Brazil? No? Well get to Youtubin' then!
Atomsk88
You cried wolf one to many times internet!! You claimed everything in existence ripped of LBP but now you have a legitimate case... I refuse to believe :p
Firstly- how can they get away with this?
Secondly- even if they could, how can the producers be so shameless?!
bialia
What in the name of all sackboys was that? That was horrible, and was that a censor bar? How the fu-...never mind.
