@develin: To reply days after the fact, my Wii has Homebrew Channel, so for the most part, that was free. (If you considered the fact that I had the Wii a couple years before I decided to Homebrew Channel it).

And I agree they shouldn't use it, PS3 isn't, though, and I wonder if that has some to do with why developers aren't making stuff for the system, aside from apparently having a convoluted programming architecture. What I really, REALLY hate on the 360, though is when they put a region lock on a game that has NO CHANCE of an international release. In those cases, the developers should have some mercy on those of us that import... (Because they know it happens, and I really don't think they care). And the fact that the Wii region locks can be bypassed using a program launched from an SD card indicates it's a software-based lock. An afterthought. And it can be removed easily.

I watched a 15 minute gameplay trailer with Tim Schafer commentary on IGN earlier.

My excitement meter for this game went up to 11. Some of the dialog is unbelievably funny.

Their Godfather port was pretty solid. Some of the best motion controlls in a 'mature' title.

But that was in the early Wii days. Now that Dead Space railshooter isn't something that's getting me hyped.

I still like Boom Blox 1/2 a lot though, but they get easily mixed up with all the redundant party games on the platform.

I do only have Wii console-wise. But I wasn't aware they were even considering a Wii version. I'm not really into watered down ports of games, so I'm not bothered by these news.

Now let's talk about a PC version... you can't run into technicaly and quality concerns with that, right?

I only own a Wii. Sometimes I think about picking up another console, but then I remember how little free time I have. Also, seeing as how 90% games on the 360 I actually want to play are on XBLA (and not full-blown games), it's kind of hard to justify the purchase.

@JahB: While I don't want to condone that type of behavior, I had just read a statistical study done by a GameFAQs member that rated game sales on all three consoles in proportion to its reviews. Apparently, Wii games with less than an average of 5 rating gets sold by the metric shit-ton. Glean what you want from that, but it's either that Wii owners are a whole different crowd (and probably don't want to play "hardcore" games like Brutal Legend) or game reviewers just don't get Wii gaming.

The reason Nintendo games look good and 3rd party games don't is because Nintendo isn't being lazy and porting a PS2 game.

I don't know precisely which form of 'hacked' you mean (Full IOS hack, Homebrew Channel, Modchip) but I'm using Homebrew Channel and GeckoOS to make it run imports and several games that are not on Virtual Console. (Because I need the controller as opposed to emulating it on my PC. Hand cramps suck.)

But I've been playing my 360 way more than the Wii. But the Wii still gets some love sometimes! :3

@Scopitone: That's why you get a gaming PC and a Wii. That covers most things. Pretty much the only exception being JRPGs, but JRPGs aren't the "in" thing anymore. You could/should get a DS for those anyways.

but, now that it isn't happening (which, I believe is different than being "cancelled") of course Kotaku needs to run this article like they're soooo disappointed.

even the article you link to takes jabs at games on the Wii, even non-ports (see: Dead Space Extraction reference), so it's tough to buy your disappointment here, Luke.

@Giggers: Well, being that the actual inspiration for this title is based off of highly detailed artwork to begin with, it's pretty easy to see where the Wii would struggle to deliver in this case.

Good, the Wii has just a handfull of games I would consider "good". Its a console built on a gimmick that has yet to produce fruit.

The sooner developers stop wasting valuable time and rescources trying to port PS3/360 games over to whats basically a last-gen console the sooner Nintendo may be forced to re-evaluate this over-hyped POS.

this decision is good common sense.

I am sure almost all the wii owners wont miss the game as this is not what they play.

Give them more party games, that is what they crave!

I like how Kotaku pixelizes the pictures when talking about ports on Wii. Makes sense I guess... I wouldn't want to pay $10 less for a inferior port of the real version.

@Jaems: Mario Galaxy is a very special case in terms of graphics. The game doesn't load any more than a single planet at a time fully, meaning that more resources can be used to make said planets look better. In short, it looks so good for a Wii game because the areas in view are always extremely small. Get a more conventional game with much larger areas rendered at a time to look like that on the Wii and we'd be having a different conversation. As it stands, though, Nintendo had to go through great lengths to get the game to look at that in a very unconventional manner, and it's very unlikely that other Wii games would look like that.

Besides, the real problem in my opinion is the laughably low resolution. Brawl would seriously look like a current-gen game had it not been for that god-awful 480p resolution that Nintendo apparently has a fetish with.

@Jaems: No Im right there with you in that regard. I wonder how in all hells can they make games that look worse than PS2 and Gamecube games in a machine that is at the least twice as much powerfull as either of them.

Also If I may be a little technical if the wii is running at a lower resolution than the other consoles(resolution sucks up a fair bit of power and has little to do with stuff like special effects like say bloom and model complexity) why most games don't look at least comparable to xbox 360 and ps3 games.

I only own a Wii, but I pretty much have access to a 360 all year round anyway as both my University flatmate and my little brother both own one. So yeah doesn't bother me.

If I stopped having access to the 360 I'd probably shell out for one or a PS3 though.

I did pick up the Wii port of Ghostbusters and as far as a Wii version goes it's very different but still a great game like the xbox version

@phinehas: I'm pretty sure that this all boils down to who buys Wii games. It really has been marketed as the machine for casual and new players. Games like Brutal Legend would necessitate a more complicated control scheme than the targeted Wii owner is going to want to deal with. Most likely it would require the Classic controller or GC controller. The magic to melee to magic style combo system is going to require more finesse than waggle will provide. I'm sure there would also have been issues with how many enemies and NPCs could be on the screen at one time. The boss fights we've seen involve building stages and having a huge audience.

I eventually broke down and picked up a PS3, but Jack Black ruins everything about this game for me. I'm still torn between not wanting to support Jack Black and supporting the game.

I couldn't run left 4 dead(Yes, I know. Don't say anything).

But if I do decide to get a new console, it'll be a PS3 for sure. Not that I have a problem with the 360.

I think this is a good thing. Publishers should build games specifically designed to utlize the Wii. Not port whatever looks to become a hit.

I mean the install base is huge, and even though attach rates aren't great there should be market enough to put out some well thought out Wii only games.
Especially since i reckon it must be a lot cheaper to develop for Wii then for PS3 and Xbox360

All I really want is a Wii and my DS, but if I had to choose, I'd stick with my DS.

A watered down version of a great game should not exist. You should either do it right, or not do it at all. Perhaps double fine can work out a Wii version that doesn't suck after Brutal Legend comes out, but this seems like the better choice.

I'm sure lots of people only own a Wii. And it's unfortunate they won't get a chance to play this game on it.

Ehh, good news, I guess. Wii versions of blockbuster "higher" console games, for example, Dead Rising, often fail. The Wii needs new games, not ports.

One of the biggest reasons I got a 360 was so I could play "real" games like this one. For about a year, I'd been Wii-only. Even then, I love my DS more.
