Carcassonne Coming To A DS Near You
Classic German board game Carcassonne – which has already turned up on Xbox Live Arcade – will also soon be making the leap to the Nintendo DS, courtesy of Koch Media.
This DS version will contain the original board game along with expansion “River”, but also expands upon this by introducing three new “worlds”, described as Asian, Nordic and Arabic. There’ll be straight-up multiplayer, either via single or multi-cart, as well as a story mode.
It’s due sometime later this year.

@holmcross: I played it at my neighbor's house a few months ago, I'm guessing it was vanilla, but so much fun! Playing against the CPU is never as fun as people though... worth a rent in any case.

@BlooQKazoo: It was free at one point yes (not anymore ofc). Great game and not at all complicated.
@Brian Beckmann: Un-approved posts are showing up in the system.
The tech-gnomes handywork as usual. Earlier the site had some graphical feature tweaks as well but it was rolled back apparently. Though now there are new problems 1. the dotted red line unapproved posts 2. auto play on linked videos in comments.
The idea of different themed worlds is superficial, but a nice touch anyway.
I wish that more expansions had made their way into the 360 version. The river and king/scout are so tiny. Why not Inns/Cathedrals or Traders/Builders?

@fraudbrand: Catan actually HAS gone DS... but only in Europe. :(

Great news: loved playing this game, until I got good enough that no one I knew would play it with me... Maybe this will change things? Multiplayer is an absolute must (obviously), but I wonder if it would have a "pass the controller" mode?
hehe, koch

I'm more of a fan of Catan than this. I have this on my 360 but don't remember buying it, was it free at one point?
Is it worth playing more of carcassone? It seemed quite complicated from what little I played through already.
fuck yes!
YESS!!!
Not having a 360, this is GREAT news. Plus, DS is the only video gaming I can get the g/f to do, so I'll get two copies.
I wonder if there's any chance they could do expansions via DSiWare - have the cart look for expansions on the SD card and use them. Probably too much to ask. Still, unless this gets universal review fail, I'm picking it up.
@JZeitler: Dominion could work really well, I would think. Arkham though..yeesh, idk. I think I would only enjoy that game when playing with friends in the same room.

@atomicstrawberry: And fix the scoring in the XBLA version, 2-tile cities are meant to be worth two points, not four.
That's the American rules set, which has been available in the XBLA version since release I believe. Check your options.
@JZeitler: I'd love to see Zertz myself. I'm disappointed that Carcassonne doesn't support more expansions, particularly Inns & Cathedrals. It's still an excellent port, but the game's been out for quite some time now, and I don't see why it wouldn't be offered.
@JZeitler: A computerised Arkham Horror would be beyond awesome. Having something to do all that housekeeping for you would probably shave an hour off a normal game.

I wish they'd put in the other expansions. And fix the scoring in the XBLA version, 2-tile cities are meant to be worth two points, not four.
As someone who plays the actual board games regularly, I can't stand going back to Vanilla Carcassonne having played with expansions. On its own the game is short, overly reliant on luck, and not very strategic. It doesn't really shine until you're playing with at least one of the river expansions, Traders & Builders, Inns and Cathedrals and the extra interesting tiles from King and Scout. Abbey & Mayor and an added river (with some revised rules that place both endings and the fork into the mix, so that the river ends when one or both end pieces are drawn depending on whether the fork comes out) add even more strategic value to the game.

another carcassonne? but... I just broke off my addiction to the 360 one:(

@JZeitler: I'm a big fan of the Towers expansion. Nothing better than ransoming another player's meeple.
I don't like vanilla Carcassonne (the river doesn't count as an expansion to me) - Inns and Caths & Traders and Builders make he game soooooo much better. It's my favorite board game, but I think I'll give this a skip.

*clap clap clap* Yaay! ^_^

@Brian Beckmann: Now they're visible again. Something screwy is going on here. Yours has the dotted line as well.
Brian Beckmann
@JZeitler: I fail at reading, apparently there will be single-card multiplayer. I still want the expansions in there, though.
JZeitler
Hopefully it'll have more than just the River expansion, and hopefully it'll have game-sharing multiplayer (but I doubt that part). Carcassonne was the first European board game I played, and it really got me into them big time.
Now, when are we gonna see Dominion, Race for the Galaxy, and Arkham Horror on consoles?

@Brian Beckmann:
Now the post is gone...? What on earth?

Great news!
I love Catan and I love Koch!
..........sorry.

@Pawsaldo:
What's up with the red dotted line around your post?
Brian Beckmann
I love the 360 version. Now if Catan goes DS I'll buy one !!
Excellent! Loved this on 360, will be double dipping.
