Either there is something wrong my computer, of the club Nintendo website, becuase I cant seem to get past the reward ordering part.

  • LtdEdLoser

Well, seeing as how I can't seem to get my Wii to connect to the internets, I'll be getting me a hat.

  • billysan

God spending a fortune on Nintendo games in one year only gets you a calender... Lame.

    billysan

  • anabbeynormality

@WizarDru: It's true that I would have bought the games anyway, but I wouldn't have sat there for two hours filling out surveys to get enough points for platinum. They can do better than a cheap plush or demo for those that spend hundreds and take the time to provide free marketing research.

I have no idea which I'm going to choose. I don't really care about either.

    anabbeynormality

  • LeepNasty

A vote for PunchOut here. Seems more exclusive, and doesn't require me to make space for it (likely in a box deep in my closet after a month) like the hat would.
The calendar actually looked pretty sweet, with Nintendo themed months. There are many worse ways to track time.

  • Zombeek Dragmire

@sentroshi: i agree i think a weegee cap would be better

  • IamTheS

@Lacan: Who is "they"? Did "they" say a year ago that there would be a Punch-Out!! DLC coming?

  • Hopanoe

@Nnooo: I'll bet my crappy calender, DSi, and an extra 200 bucks that Nintendo makes this WiiWare Club Nintendo "exclusive" available to everyone by February 2010.

  • sentroshi

    @Jennifer Kyak: Copy cater :o

  • sentroshi

@ShaSt One: I'd rather have a luigi cap than a mario cap any other day. It's just so green!

  • sentroshi

@mintycrys is HOT for Bayonetta: Which club nintendo are you using? If your using the north american one mine is fine ... maybe you should contact support, because 4800 is a heck of a lot of points. I only have 700 D:

  • Cyrian

    @drivebyinsult:
Doc would also tell you to join the Nintendo Fun Club in the original Punch-Out.

    Cyrian

  • Hiro-of-Shadows

@miquonranger03: You do realize they don't have to give you anything, right?
You know what you really get for buying those things? A Wii, DS Lite, DSi, 3 Wii games, and about 15 VC games. You pay your money for the product, not for some silly demo game or a cheesy hat.

  • SEX_BISON

Whoop dee doo. $400 worth of Nintendo products and I get a fucking calendar. EDIT: Ah, who am I kidding. I'll just pirate Doc Louis' Punch Out!!.

  • bass28

I'm SOOO getting that hat :)

  • otis123

I ordered the hat, but were is my usb super NES controller???

  • PSWii2008

@Mazakona: You don't need the Punch-Out game to use the download.

    PSWii2008

  • PSWii2008

Man! I was 60 Points short of Platinum status! I wish I had kept some of my game codes that I had before Club Nintendo launched in the US! I thought Gold members would get a better gift, but a calendar? Really? I have enough calendars in my house; why do I need another one? Maybe I could sell it on eBay!

I am jealous of Platinum members getting the Doc Louis DLC, but how are they going to get it when the game itself doesn't support DLC? (Oh wait, I answered my own question! It says you don't need the original game to download this!)

    PSWii2008

  • TalesXGundam

    I got the hat. xD

    TalesXGundam

  • ShaSt One

    @Prosecutioner: Perhaps trailing behind Mario's... Luigi's life story. :(

  • ShaSt One

I thought that Mario cap was an unwearable plush and that they were raining on my fire flower, but it looks like this one's wearable! Take that Master Chief! I expect Luigi cap acknowledgement in the imminent future.

The Doc Louis game sounds awesome too. At first I thought it was a punching bag shaped like him... I'm not sure if I'm relieved or disappointed!

  • minusX

@Maverick: If you go back and look at your registered games it might give you the quiz to get the points. I had that issue myself but managed to get about 400 points from older games :D!

  • James Healey

I just ordered my hat =]

  • mintycrys is HOT for Bayonetta

  • ShaggyB

@N●Gage Croal: cheese and crackers for that whine?

Its free.... I hope you didnt buy all those Nintendo published games so you sould get a free trinket.

Sure i want them both too..... but its free. You cant complain about free.

    ShaggyB

  • ShaggyB

Is it wrong to want them both? I hate having to choose.... I went with the game as I recall seeing Mario hats at the nintendo store in NYC.....

    ShaggyB

  • MalikSquared

Am I the only one who doesn't find the calendar to be that bad? I dig it, actually haha. That's the gift I'm getting!

  • CasvalRemDeikun

@dethklokso: You don't need to have Punch-Out to get the free game. The offer makes this very clear.

  • Mazakona

It wasn't a hard choice for me. I went for the Mario Hat. Always wanted one ever since I was a kid. It would have been nice if I was able to get the punch-Out download as well.

  • culic

If the game had a code I'd be down. But since it's locked to a Wii and if the Wii breaks you lose all your games; then no thanks.

  • WizarDru

I think folks need a little perspective, here.

Club Nintendo has never been about expensive rewards, they've been about unique stuff. I mean, seriously now...do you REALLY think that a Game & Watch collection for the DS is something you'd play for more than 10 minutes? Of course not: it's part bragging rights and part collector's item.

This is, after all, a 'thank you' for being a Nintendo customer. I've already gotten a free set of Mario Hanafuda cards...this is just icing.

I mean, it's not like anyone was buying games to get the rewards...you were buying the games to play them. This is a nice little 'thank you' for being a loyal Nintendo customer.

Myself, I think I'm going for the hat.

    WizarDru

  • drivebyinsult

The offering of this game via Club Nintendo Rewards finally makes sense of all the times Doc Louis says "Join Club Nintendo today, Mac!" in Punch-Out!!

I thought he was just whoring himself out, but it turns out that it was because the developers were cluing us into the fact that they developed something special for the Club... pretty sneaky...

Way happier with the extra game content rather than stuff.. cuz that's what its all about the games, right?

    drivebyinsult

  • Xargath

    @miquonranger03:

And lots of fun, I hope?

@Sonira : They register automatically upon purchase, if you linked your Nintendo account with your Shopping Channel account.

    Where is mah Luigi hat??

    Prosecutioner

  • Sonira - bettah zan Mama!

@miquonranger03: You can register VC games?! Awesome! I did not know that!

  • JGab

Got a Mario hat when I woke up this morning. I can always use it for videos that my friends and I make for fun. At least, it'd be better use than a DLC demo title.

  • Maverick

Wow, I'm really irritated that registering all my games early burned me now.

  • Lumice

I chose the hat since I have a wii but am not interested in buying punch-out. I wish I could have gotten the hat AND the calender though since I got to such a high level, and it will still take forever to ship, november 1st? holy crap.

  • Grocerystorecan

  • Takara_Kitsune

I personally went with the Punch-Out! reward. It just seems like it won't be available anywhere else. (I'm sure it'll show up somewhere else somehow. ^^; ) And to be honest, I've got a few too many 'collectables' around here anyway.

The part that made me laugh about all this was the redemption email: "You will receive an email by November 1, 2009 with more information
on how to get your digital reward." Oh, Nintendo, you and your teasing...

    Takara_Kitsune

  • Grocerystorecan

    @WEGGLES90:

Would you like to trade? XD

  • Crash__Man

aw man, I'm gonna have to agree with Kotaku on this one.... a calendar!?

I'd rather just have glossy prints of Nintendo characters.... the calendar will just make it seem like rubbish instead of a collector's item. =\

that Mario hat is amazing though.

    Crash__Man

  • drivebyinsult

This is a no-brainer for me.. Punch-Out all the way. Loved the game, and I don't need anymore pieces of junk laying around my room.. I have to shove stuff to one side of my desk just to use the computer..

So, yes, digital download of a game I love is a great reward for me..!

    drivebyinsult

  • Verloren

@N●Gage Croal: I have to agree here. I spent a lot of money on Nintendo published games and it is disappointing that they are not allowing for the selection of both. The fact that one platinum item doesn't have a physical representation... I know it costs money to host and distribute but wouldn't that be a small cost to make your most loyal customers happy?

I'm afraid I'll end up picking the hat, as I see that as a better collectors item. I love Punchout though... Maybe the fact that I'm torn between these two items is what makes me so upset in having to choose.

  • SuperD

@ShaggE wants to join the Egg Council.: The Mario hat probably won't fit my giant head :( Plus you can probably get "unofficial" Mario AND Luigi hats elsewhere, albeit with lower quality..

  • MilburnMerenda

well thats kind of a letdown for the gold members when compared to the japanese swag. some people just dont have the platinum fill of games. good swag for them though... even if its just a hat :p

    MilburnMerenda

  • Blackbeltdude

I went with the Punch-Out download.

I've seen the Japanese selling those hats on Ebay for years now, so if I really want one, I'll just buy one. Now there's going to be US sellers selling those hats.

The game on the other hand; that's what I'm talking about. An exclusive game for this territory, and only for the platinum membership. No doubt someone will find a way to use the Homebrew channel to get the game illegally, but I think it's probably the best option out of the two choices.

    Blackbeltdude

  • tr0tsky

I only get a calendar...I was 20 points short of the platinum thing because I didn't check the site after they added the post-play surveys =(

  • WEGGLES90

    Damnit. I'm platinum, but I don't have a Wii.

I wish I could've picked the Calendar. It looks neato :)

  • RoboMudokon

LAME. I reached Elite Status hoping for rewards like in Japan like the Golden Wii Wheel or a limited edition game... not a downloadable minigame or a hat... son of a bitch.

  • dethklokso

wow, what crappy rewards, some recycled crap from JP's last club nintendo platinum rewards, and DLC for a game i don't have, guess i'll be getting a hat with my platinum status. sigh.

    dethklokso

  • Platypus Man

I hope that the Mario hat fits on my giant head... I would've liked the SFC controller too, but I guess this isn't terrible. If I liked or were at all good at Punch-Out, I would have gotten that, but the hat seemed pretty cool.

    Platypus Man

  • Skyman747

Gunna go with the hat. Don't have punch-out, and might like the demo, but like others have said. In this case, physical object = better. Shame that to get platinum again I will have to hoarde my codes and hopefully have enough for 600 points year after next. Sorry Nintendo, but Sony is taking my money right now.

    Skyman747

  • KefkaticFanatic

Sounds to me like the Punch Out is just a demo. I'm going for the Mario hat. Oh, and it says that you'll get them by November 1st this year and have to claim by August 11th. Also, for whatever reason the order form didn't appear to work correctly on Firefox, but worked fine on Chrome.

  • Bigfoot

I don't get it. Why can't us elite status members get both the hat and the download? :\

    Bigfoot

  • Monkey Majiks

Can anyone name anything the EU/UK Nintendo website has done for stars trading that was even remotely useful?

The only thing i can think of is letting you convert stars for Wii points.

Anyone would think Nintendo didnt love us :'(

  • Thanatos

@liammiller18: Wouldve been better off keeping the points to do platinum 3 years in a row.

  • StocDred

@jive238: Same here. If you had a good number of old GameCube / early DS credit built up, you should be swimming in potential survey points for quite some time. I'm probably a lock for platinum status from now until the end of time.

  • StocDred

@Lacan: Doesn't really answer my question. Is Doc Louis an unlockable character in retail Punch-Out? I'm hoping he is not. Because if he is, then nobody would need or want this DLC mini-version, should they already own Punch-Out, or are planning to buying Punch-Out during the next Amazon Gold Box sale.

  • Chesu

@Nnooo: I was actually pretty loyal in registering my games and systems with My Nintendo, so when Club Nintendo came to North America, I had just a handful of games to register... Fortunately, I've made about three hundred extra coins, because the post-play surveys I've already filled out keep popping up.

I went with the Mario hat. I mean, come on... it's a Mario hat!

  • Brav1

Woo Hoo! A calendar was just what i needed! *cries* i just wanted that Mario hat.

    Brav1

  • SagiMewtwo

I feel kinda disappointed that we didn't get the cool Super Famicom controller. I guess there's no choice but to get raped by ebay to get one now.

    SagiMewtwo

  • Hypernetic

I got the hat, I figured it would last longer than a mini game, plus it's something I can actually show people.

I am a little disappointed that platinum level members don't get the calendar too. It's cool that we get a special reward nobody else gets, but the calendar is pretty cool too.

    Hypernetic

  • liammiller18

This is why I have three accounts.

    Two Platinum
    One Gold

    Three crappy prizes.

    liammiller18

  • miquonranger03

For the record, you will be downloading the Punch-Out game as a title on WiiWare. Not that I earned that. I only bought a Wii, DS Lite, DSi, 3 Wii games, and about 15 VC games. And all I got is a cheap calendar. Thanks, Ninty.

    miquonranger03

  • NukaCola

I only achieved Gold Status so I got a silly calendar, for a second I thought I would've been able to get the Mario Hat. Oh, woe is me!

    NukaCola

  • Gishman Fontaine

I recognize that the rewards are free, but I am still disappointed in Nintendo's choice to offer a calendar as the "Gold" member's reward. While it may appeal to children, I don't know many adults who would be interested in displaying a Nintendo calendar.

I am actually surprised that the digital download wasn't given to everyone who achieved "Gold" and "Platinum" while the cap would be sent to all "Platinum" members only. It seems as though the "Platinum" game would be nearly free to distribute since it is already developed.

    Gishman Fontaine

  • MisterFleX

Hrm, looks like I'll be getting that Mario hat. Kind of funny since most of the games I registered were Pokemon games and only 1 was a Mario game. Can anyone guess which one?

    MisterFleX

  • KevTehNev

I got the hat i didn't have a choice since i don't have a Wii :( but yea pretty cool even thought you can get one at Nintendo World for i think $25 making not that special. I'm not gonna Bawww about it since it's free and i got 200 of the coins from someone :P

    KevTehNev

  • D00mM4r1n3

@SpishackCola blazin blues: I went with the hat as well. I would rather have a physical item that I can sell on eBay for $$. Sucks that they didn't offer the SNES style controller.

  • jive238

    @Jekku:
I was just about to ask if anyone played the downloadable yet. Can't decide between the hat or the game. kinda wish there wasn't a choice.

  • GreatNocturn357

Ahhh nuts! All I get is a bloody calender!

    GreatNocturn357

  • jive238

    @Nnooo:
*Scoffs at your attempt at elitism*
I Attained platinum status by registering DS games ALONE!(with some help from the DSi registration too) By my calculations my current library of Wii titles plus leftover surveys should be enough to grant me Platinum status AGAIN! I may even so dare to say i'm a bigger tool than you.

    /excuse to boast

  • CreamSodaSlurpee

@N●Gage Croal: Did you hear that? It was my comment flying right over your head.

    CreamSodaSlurpee

  • SpishackCola is The Black Squigg

Guess I'm gonna have to go with the hat. I got nothing against Doc Lewis. No need to bust him in the mouth.

  • Lacan

@IamTheS: They only mentioned it for about a year now...

  • Sakaban

LOL wow crap load of crap.. not even happy being a platinum

    Sakaban

  • IamTheS

So wait... I won't be able to get any of these items because I failed to register for unforeseen prizes months in advance? Way to go, Nintendo.

  • Iron Man Underoos

@Hindesite: It's too late for this year. You can do it for 2010. You automatically get gold status for registering 300 coin platinum status for 600 coins.

  • Lacan

@StocDred:It doesn't require punch out they say so on the website.

  • ttocs

Looks like I'm getting a calendar...all for putting in a few games that I never played. I'm the luckiest boy in the world!

  • Shyguy

I opted for the Mario Hat. I've always wanted one! And the Doc Louis pic is just scary. It reminds me of that terrible meme, which I won't mention...

  • jive238

    @N●Gage Croal:
I don't really support the idea of complaining about free stuff but I know how you feel. But still i'm having a hard time deciding what to take. I like the idea of a free game(probably not much to it) and the fact that it probably won't be put on sale so this is the only way to get it and it won't be available for long (August 11 wtf?) makes me reeeeally want to get it, but then there's the fucking MARIO HAT! I always wanted a mario hat, always did, I'd actually wear it places and shit, goddammit I WANT IT TOO!

  • thaGreatness

I'd love to have that mario hat. Unfortunately I was only able to get to gold in time so... calendar. that's a pretty steep difference...

    thaGreatness

  • Nnooo

@putermcgee: It is akin to a WiiWare title so you won't need the Punch out disc ;)

  • Nnooo

@N●Gage Croal: A download only you can get ;)

    Nnooo

  • StocDred

Can anybody verify that Doc Louis is NOT in the retail version of Punch-Out? Because I will be mighty pissed if I use my platinum bonus on this downloadable and then someday buy Punch-Out on the cheap and find Doc Louis hidden in it.

  • Nnooo

Just opted for the Punch Out bonus. Yes I have spent a fortune on Nintendo products!

    Nnooo

  • Iron Man Underoos

Anyone read the fine print for the calendar reward?

The photo that you see is of the Japanese 2009 reward calendar.... meaning the North American version won't be as cool.

  • putermcgee

@Mezodon: when you consider the sales of nintendo products in japan compared to the us, we've got a lot less people to accommodate.

i do think one thing people are forgetting is that you're not spending your coins on this gift. you get the gift, plus whatever else you want to get in return for the coins you've earned.

    putermcgee

  • RevengaSweet

    I got Doc Louis's game!

    NOT.

  • casmith07

there isn't enough good software on the Wii or DS right now for me to earn enough points to become Platinum :(

  • 0suited

    @CreamSodaSlurpee: i lol'd irl

    0suited

  • putermcgee

the fine print says you don't need punch-out!! to download the doc louis fight...but is it really safe to assume you need the game to play it? maybe it's a self-contained mini game?

considering what i paid for the snes wii controller, the famicom sp, and the player 2 famicom faceplate for the game boy micro, i think i'll be happier if i opt for the hat and put it on ebay.

while it's disappointing, this is their first year doing this in the states, so i'm willing to cut them some slack.

    putermcgee

  • Junpei_Iori

I think that the extra fight in Punch Out!! is actually really sweet. It's just an incredibly lame reward for "Platinum" status. Shouldn't it at least come with Doc Louis chocolate?

    Junpei_Iori

  • KitsuneSokudo

Thanks nintendo. I spent more than $300 and ended up with gold status and you can give me a calander, something that if I REALLY wanted I could have gotten for $1 at Wal-mart or like most modern people, use the one on my cell phone. Way to say thanks to your US fan base with a dated worthless item.

  • Mezodon

Why all the complaints about the Punch-Out!! reward? If you get to fight Doc as a full fledged bonus character, that sounds great to me. I loved the game, so getting someone new to fight and figure out is appealing. Hopefully they won't throw it up on WiiWare for $5 later on. The hat is fine, but for me it'd just be a dust collector. The calendar is a bit weak, but it's odd that platinum members don't even get it as an option.

Also keep in mind why Nintendo has said it took so long for them to do a Club Nintendo here to begin with, and that's the size. Perhaps Japan gets better rewards, but there's a lot less of them to give out and so it's a much smaller expense. Besides, we get free stuff (on top of the free stuff you can buy with the coins) for buying and enjoying games we'd get with or without Club Nintendo. So no complaints here.

  • octalass

    @PAULINK:

You could pirate the game, but not the hat... as far as I know.

  • riguitargod

    @N●Gage Croal:

I'd get the hat, but I'm so worried about the on size fits all aspect. I have a fairly large head, i guess, as I rarely fit into OSFA fitted hats!

  • tomsau

  • Horrid DCD

Dang, I want that Mario hat.

Man, I will never get a Platinum status, since I don't even buy enough games... Nintendo make your games cheaper or at least allow points for third party games like in Japan!

  • PAULINK

A rare once in a life time downloadable game or a hat... decisions decisions

  • Lacan

I don't know why everyone is freaking out. I mean you are getting something for all the games you bought, you didn't buy the game to get something in return (at least I hope for your sake).
My only regret is i would like to see more about the download before i can decide what I want.

    Lacan

  • KyleNichol

Wait, Doc Louis's Punch-Out!!? Is it WiiWare or Flash?

  • trunkenmath

@N●Gage Croal: I have always wanted to punch that man in the face. I would so take the game download.

Agree though, why not send the download out as a free gift to those with the status then save the redemption for cool swag.

  • octalass

    @N●Gage Croal:

What's the problem? They're giving you free stuff and your complaining that they aren't giving you more.

  • Zolbrod

I got the 2009 calendar as a Gold Member of Club Nintendo Japan.

I never expected to get anything. It just arrived in the mail one day. For free.
I thought it was a nice gesture.

It's nice to see gamers are not above complaining about getting something for free...

If it was a retail game, I could understand making it one or the other... but a download? Why not let us have both?

Screw it, I'm going with the hat. Way to fail, NOA. Way to fail.

No Wii Remote TV remote... No Super NES Classic Controller... And being Platinum doesn't let you have BOTH a Platinum AND a Gold gift? Truly, this is failure.

Yeah, it's great they finally brought Club Nintendo over here... but compared to some of the offerings from NCL, it really seems half-hearted.

    A DOWNLOAD?!

Wow... at least the Mario hat looks like something interesting to have. But bizarre rewards are Nintendo's forte, after all. Remember those Earthbound air fresheners?

  • Highwinter

The hat is really awesome.. Too bad the UK Club Nintendo sucks.

The Mario Hat would be tempting but the other thing? Wow! A Download! lol... Also the Gold Reward is truly pitiful.

Mario Cap and then a Beatdown on Doc? I'm afloat with joy

A calendar? All the way, Nintendo, all the way.

  • roninalchemist

On the one hand, the game could be fun, albiet very short and probably hard as nails...on the other, the hat looks awesome and comfy..decisions decisions...hat could be ebay worthy at least...hmm...

I pillaged through all the Nintendo game cases at GameStop for THIS?

    @ShaSt One:
And if you're lucky, wearing the hat won't give you cancer like the Punch-Out boxer shorts would!

@anabbeynormality: Hey I'll gladly take your Punch Out demo if you aren't interested.
I've had nothing but problems with the registration system on that site. I've wasted time filling out surveys then not gotten points, etc.
I agree, they're getting tons of free marketing research, something like the Punch Out thing should be in the Wii shop for free. It would be nice to be able to try before you buy on this system. I've been burned a lot, positive reviews be damned.

    HAT ME!

  • DaemonGildas

    Aww, I want a Mario hat :*(

Sucks, I have a ton of games that *could've* been registered, but didn't realize how important the plain-white pamphlet was. Being the neat-freak I am, I just threw em away; I only keep the booklet and (obviously) game in the case.

Lesson learned, I guess. Still, anyone wanna hook me up with a hat? ^_^

  • Kalgaroo

I'm only gold. That prize isn't great, but oh well, better than nothing.

  • Mykalwane

The sad thing is this is an improvement for Nintendo.
