Did EA Just Announce Command & Conquer 4?

It might not have intended to, but EA’s UK public relations team might have just jumped the gun on officially announcing Command & Conquer 4. Funny thing is, that announcement is now nowhere to be seen.

Earlier today, the European PR folks posted on Twitter that “EA LOS ANGELES ANNOUNCES DEVELOPMENT OF COMMAND & CONQUER 4,” linking to an official press release on the matter. One that doesn’t yet exist online. Joystiq managed to catch it (and nab a screen shot), probably furthering to ruin some poor PR person’s day.

EA’s made no secret that a Command & Conquer 4 is in the works, so an announcement—an official announcement that we can officially read on the internet—won’t surprise us.

    That's a screenshot of Red Alert 3. It's not the exact same universe as Command and Conquer.

    @Fwiffo: It's Great Shot! It's one of the winning/debriefing themes of the GDI, if I remember correctly. In the original Command and Conquer.

    Ever since Westwood got consumed by the EA behemoth i have been really unimpressed with the C&C games, i dont feel they have innovated since the C&C Red Alert. All they have done is improve the graphics and fill the cut scenes with eye candy for 15yr old boys.

    @Vavaylah: "So it WAS you! I was going to expose you."

    "Yes, so instead I choose to expose myself."

    "Please, there are ladies present!"

    Best movie ever.

    @tehdorkz: I hate to sound like a PC/RTS fanboy, but.... RTS on console is fail.

    RA3 was good for the PC3 (have yet to play the 360 version) but in the end I still prefered it on the PC, the games were so much faster pace then on console

    @exion: Cheese is indeed the gooey glue that keeps C&C from falling apart.

    "I am Seth; just Seth. From God, to Kane, to Seth."

    In no other game can a goatee-sporting, beret-wearing dude spout that line and get away with it. Long live le fromage!

    What I wrote on Evil Avatar about this:

    Here is my problem with EA. I only buy PC games on steam, I would really, really, really like to buy RED ALERT 3 and RED ALERT 3: UPRISING on steam. However, EA in the infinite stupid wisdom will only allow the DLC to be bought through EA online store which there is no way in hell I am doing. Even if this comes out on steam, I am reluctant to buy it because of what they did with the DLC in the previous game. Release UPRISING on steam EA and I will consider buying this if its true.

  • Fwiffo

    @Vavaylah: I heard "Nice shot, return to base immediately"

    But you're not old enough to remember that. "sigh".

    I got a Command and Conquer email today from EA about a character that was to make a big announcement in early July. Cats out of the bag early I take it?

    I shouldn't have brought C&C 3.. It was rubbish!

  • Mardoch

    @The Forgetful Brain: Having Madeline Kahn helps a lot. She's freaking awesome.

  • UberScytheLord

    I swear companies hire the most incompetent, bumbling asses for PR people, just so these "accidental" "leaks" happen all the time.

    Can we get over the "oops the announcement leaked" BS already and just actually announce things?

  • Vavaylah

    @Nitroid: Thanks for that :)

    I feel for the PR guy who slipped this... I also feel for the cop who finds his mangled body in a desert

  • slimky

    @IUHoos: I agree with that.
    I'm a CoH addict since I played the game. I don't think that C&C can take my attention back, even if the first one was the one that get me into the genre.

  • SigmaHyperion

    Judging by the Survey that I filled out a couple weeks ago, a couple things stuck out at me that it mentioned continutously regarding my general feelings on the next C&C title...

    1> RPG-like Elements
    2> Co-Op Campaign
    3> Persistency in Multiplayer (I think)

  • The Forgetful Brain

    @Vavaylah: Exactly. It kind of gives all the lousy video game adaptations less of an excuse - particularly fighting games.

    Both the board game Clue and 'x' fighting game gather a bunch of people in one place, essentially to duke it out, with very little narrative structure to encapsulate the events.

    And Clue got it so, so right.

    The fighting game adaptations... not so much.

    Perhaps the director/writer of Clue should take on the video game world. Maybe then we'd get our first absolutely solid video game adaptation.

    Even more stunning - IMDB says Clue was the director's first film...

    I did love 3, I may love 4.

    @Vavaylah:

    Actually, the quote was "Good shot, Green." But I'm just nit-picking. :)

  • tehdorkz

    @GunFlame: ah
    @exion: couldn't agree more. bring on the cheese

  • deanbmmv

    @Ricardo Freitas: The ironic thing is your from Facebook.
    And this article is clearly showing Twitter isn't for the stereotypical "I just ate something" the mis-informed spout.
    Hey if Kotaku didn't post some of these stuff we wouldn't now the potential voice cast for Fable 3, LucasArts announcement for the Steam games, and the various off hand opinions of various developers n head honchos.

  • GunFlame

    @tehdorkz: Cheesy :(

    Id be more excited except I can't play C&C 3 anymore because the DRM won't recognize the disk in the drive, and I refuse to get a crack for a game I paid for.

  • exion

    @FP_slomo788: I picked it up for the PS3 not too long ago and I'm shocked at how well it plays with a controller.

    Fantastic game, and the videos between battles are awesome!

  • Vavaylah

    @Spidery_Yoda: Right you are. It was Clue which I think was the best movie adaptation of any game.

    Vavaylah

  • IUHoos

    Company of Heroes ruined my towards any other RTS. Nothing pisses me off more than making thousands of credits worth of infantry, only to have them run over by a vehicle. It just feels like RTS's are more about spam than strategy anymore. C&C is a prime example of that.

  • tehdorkz

    @mitch_93: All your base are belong to Curry

  • Syftx2

    Was a bit disappointed by the PS3 port. Maybe it was the game itself or it was a sloppy port, I'm not sure which one.

    One of my fave glitches on it is that it didn't support certain channels of sound..

  • televizor

    @Vavaylah:

    Home alone?

    Well, tell us already.

    televizor

  • tehdorkz

    @GunFlame: Did you mean chessy or cheesy? Because either way..I'm still confused..

  • tehdorkz

    I really enjoyed 3. May sound a little weird, but I am hoping that they do do a console version of the game (which I'm sure they will). EA's always done a pretty decent job making the games work pretty well on the consoles. My friends and I used to spend hours in Tiberium Wars playing skirmish mode just building up armies and then causing mass destruction. When Halo Wars came out I was interested because of my love for a good RTS, but the whole experience was so dumbed down and simplified (I suppose to appeal to Halo fans [that's NOT a shot at them btw]) that it just really didn't deliver a very good RTS experience. So 4 will definitely be something for me to look forward to.

  • Spidery_Yoda

    @Raziel66: That film is awesome.

  • hanulbada

    @Ricardo Freitas: I don't think microblogging has the firepower to kill normal blogging. I think it's safe to assume that they can coexist.

  • Muppsatan

    @Vavaylah: Muppets on treasure Island? You should watch it tis awesome (watch it even if the quote is not from there!)

  • GunFlame

    I wish they would make it a little less chessy. Its just a little embarassing. Yeah, since the original theres always been that aspect of cheese but at least when you were on the map, it was down to business.

    Maybe its just me...

  • Tom Clancy's Samuraidino

    C&C3 is on my list of games to buy this year. The demo was really fun.

  • ShoopDaBoofs

    @Vavaylah: The sad thing is I can actually hear him saying it in my head and envision the scene, but can't pluck the title.

    ShoopDaBoofs

  • Ricardo Freitas

    Twitter this twitter that.. I hope blogs keep going because searching for announcements in the middle of "looking at the sun" and "taking a trip to mc donald with the kids" it's not my kind of thing:/
